US vs International S3 - Galaxy S III General

I now have both and here is what i found out.
-US gets same battery life as International with LTE ON
-US has same amount of idle ram used (aroung 678mb) bit has 1.8GB total ram.
-International has overall higher processor scores but US is better per core.
-To much of my surprise, 3D and 2D graphics are rated higher on the US version in all benchmarks (though not by much)
-US version has smooth gaming performance but gets hot. International has smooth performance for most games and stays cool, but there are some choppy games most like due to bad optimization.
-US version is best selling android phone and a lot of developers are optimizing their app for it. Mass Effect was optimized for the US version on day one.
-US version does not currently support GameLoft games. International plays most GameLoft games perfectly, some newer ones have a little lag.
Both are great phones, but if you live in the US (like me) than the US version is the way to go. It does everything the International version does and plays games very smoothly.
Note: I have the AT&T S3 for my US version.

Me too.. and to OP I dont understand why all you US GS3 users feel the constant need to come in here and tell us your device is better... Do we come to your forums and troll? no, as a matter of fact I've been in your forums since I'm an ATT customer and even have answered a few questions for people and was helpful. I just dont understand why the US GS3 users feel the need to come tell us how much supirior their device is to ours.. if you ask me they are trying to convince themselves of that more than anything.. To help so they feel better about their purchase
This thread should be closed because it's such a blatant troll thread. and by the way.. I just odered mine today and I went with the international.. you know the device as the way Samsung intended it, not mutilated to serve the us markets

You realize how funny this sounds, right? Since the price of the phone isn’t determined “by the core" and you can only have four on the i9300 and two on the U.S. variants "better per core" is a pretty meaningless statistic.

Closed, we already have multiple us vs international sgs3 threads, we dont need another.

Can't decide...

Read countless reviews and still can't decide.
Two things putting me off. The lack of ICS and Samsung take forever to get updates out (example my old mans galaxy s2 is still on 2.3.4 while my brothers Liquid Metal is on 2.3.6) Also the fact that quad core phones will be out next year.
My being picky? How are you guys gettin on with you' re notes?
Seeing as there is one phone in existence sold with ics on it, that is kind of a tough stance to take. Also this has nearly the fastest currently available processor, why do you think you need a quad core?
I guess you could wait till they stop making new phones, that way there is nothing better just around the corner. I heard that will be next year, so I would wait.
Honestly, the best thing you can do is just get a new phone every year. until the next best thing, the note is it.

You could learn how to root & install custom ROMs, so you never have to wait for the Samsung's updates.
If you could wait for a Quad core phone then wait for it. If you can't, then the Note should do you well.

I know how to root so if ICS was ported I could do it myself. I'm just being picky and making up excuses to not buy the damn thing I think.. I do want it but the Galaxy Nexus went back cause I couldn't stand the volume bug and the crappy build. Just looking for opinions really to see if this device is really worth it and if the size is a problem. Trust XDA users opinions over Engadget and other tech sites.

samsung arent too bad with updates, it could just be your device is locked to a region or carrier that doesnt update regularly.
my note was locked to the PLS region. it took 1-2 weeks longer than the other regions to get 2.3.6, but even so, its quite a quick update considering its a carrier branded device thats only been out for a month or so.
quad core phones have their strengths and weaknesses. the only advantage is in multitasking. you wont be able to use the raw power for a single app though aside from nvidia tegra 3 games. most PC apps are only now beginning to support multicore, i'd say android will take a fair while as well. when devs make apps, they make them so they will run on a wide variety of devices to maximise earnings. most people using android devices are still using single cores, devs will focus on maximising compatibility and improving performance on single cores first, so on a quad core phone, you may have one or two active cores with the other two doing pretty much nothing.
by the time the software catches up, you'd be stuck with a 40nm tegra3 that would burn your hands when a newer 28nm or 20nm cpu will be available and would be much faster and run much cooler.
i'd say just get a note now, enjoy the snappy performance of the apps samsung have optimised for dual core and the gpu and have fun knowing that you'll be using all you paid for in the phone rather than only getting half your money's worth with a quad.
As I know wildfires will not come out next year. There are coming some bastards 2x2 cores 2 at 1.5-1.8 and 2 low MHz cores so the battery live is increased when you don't need high usage of the cores. So don't think there will be much difference from the 2cores that are in the market atm. Maybe a better you on them will do the trick as now ics will provide hw acceleration.
Just my thoughts about that.

i couldn't tell whether that was a review or advertisement
That was pretty crap. Nothing but an excuse to jam as many referral links and adverts on to the page as possible.
Besides that Galaxy Note is quite future-proof in terms of connectivity. Samsung Galaxy Note allows you to embrace 4G LTE with transfer rate up to 21Mbps, should your country has it.

This part is misleading though, in the Note's current form (with 1.4Ghz Exynos Samsung made chip) it does NOT support 4G/LTE. Only when it gets a Qualcomm chip (which is slower than the Exynos will it support 4G/LTE.
Loaded with the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip is likely what will be coming to AT&T and others in the US.
Question is, the Note has been noted to have some lag under certain conditions, so where it is present will that lag increase with the Qualcomm since it is a slower chip? And do you want a slower chip just to gain the ability to use 4G/LTE? One would have to decide for themselves considering of course such factors as...is 4G/LTE even available where they are and is it something they would just HAVE to have considering wifi and 3G in many cases are just fine.
Also, will the upcoming 1.5 Exynos support 4G/LTE and become available anytime soon in the Note.
For me, I want the Exynos in my Note, so within the next few weeks (barring some earth shattering revelation regarding a new, unlocked version I might have to wait a month for) it will be mine, then you all can tell me how to grow roots and do mods and such things.
Now that these phones have reached such heights of technology (not to mention...price) they should really make it like a computer where (at least for awhile) we can purchase and install ourselves a new CPU but I won't hold my breath.
Ordered mine this morning the white one on ipmart
I hardly decide between the nexus or the note and the note wins

Yes. You are right. I have said this before in one of your videos & I will say it again... Your review has got to be the most honest, detailed & comprehensive report on this phone anywhere on the Internet.
Hell, NZ's review may be the best review about any phone on the Internet. Really stellar stuff and I am looking forward to his take on the Galaxy Nexus.

Better battery life. twice the RAM, cheaper for US buyers, same speed and performance, has LTE. Only reason you would want to pick the international version is for the better GPU, if you play a lot of 3D games on your phone that is (I leave that to my playstation and big screen TV). It'll also get faster updates, but for those who care about updating, most will have already flashed a third party rom. Oh, and benchmark numbers. Very few and specific benefits if you ask me. You can unlock the AT&T or T-mobile phones with a cheap unlock code from eBay, or probably for free if that unlock app carries over to the US versions.

What's the advantage of having overclocked 0.2ghz processor? As rightly said above, its battery time that'd suffer. And by the way, as far as the internals are the same, we are not screwed. Like both int'l and ntt versions have exynos 4412 so extra 0.2ghz doesn't matter at all!

It's not overclocked. the 1.6ghz one is revision 2.0 while we have revision 1.1. That 1.6 is their base clock speed afaik, meaning they can overclock to even higher than our max of 1.8ghz. (I might be wrong though)
EDIT: Maybe one month after it's released in japan, they'll make i9310 (with 1.6ghz 2gb ram) And after another 3 months, they'll make i9315 (1.6ghz 2gb with mali t604).
What would you expect ? Samsung is known for making a big*** amount of variants for their flagships, just check the number of variants for the S2..Some of them got HD screens.

Hold that thought. Wait and see what samsung decides to do with the lack of support for exynos chipsets situation. I'm so mad about this. I think a lot of people are. Afterall I bought the S3 for the good hardware and the developer friendliness of samsung devices. Atleast that's what I knew before buying it. Now I see it's a whole different story. I personally am gonna wait like 2 months max. They fail, I'll sell this and get the next nexus maybe. What say? Also S4 chipset much better than exynos in all possible ways. Also I read somewhere in XDA some time back that Qualcomm chipsets are easier to deleop for atm. The only thing here is it's going to be an LG... an LG =\
I really hope their wheels start spinning with the Nexus release, coz as far as i know... developement is most active on HTC and Samsung smartphones.
You paid 500 for the S3 that's still the same S3. The fact that they released a slightly better variant on the other side of the world doesn't make your device worse.
I think people shouldn't care so much about owning the best. This is how the world is: they keep releasing better stuff so fast, you can't always have the best. And it doesn't really matter, it's just a small difference, our S3 is fast and that S3 will be fast.
Instead of having an S3 and paying so much money for another S3 which is barely different, buy a Galaxy Nexus which is much cheaper. Dual core and much smoother then all S3's...
It is the SAME CPU, SAME internals, it is OVERCLOCKED, nothing special.

Agreed, Just because something new comes out it doesn't mean the original is useless.
If you are going to buy a top spec mobile phone then you need to realise it's outdated the moment you take it home. You buy the best you can, with the money you have, at the time you need/want to buy it.
or you can sit back and wait for the latest and fastest device and end up waiting for ever as the next one will always be better.

They don't fail. They hold more than 30% of the world's mobile phone market. More than anyone else. And the S4 PRO compared to the current Exynos 5250 paired with the Mali-T604 is already beat. As you can't compare old to new. That's the latest Exynos vs. Snapdragon processor comparison. Samsung hasn't really failed us. Just wait and let them fix their mistakes. And all the multi Nexus device. Is bull. Just let the time come and get what you want, stop bashing Samsung...

Ill be able to duplicate this Variant soon .. all i need to do is overclock my I9305 by 200Mhz and BAM all of a sudden i have exaclty the same device. All the hardware is the same
Forget this one but i9305 was really a "in your face! early adopters" by Samsung!
i wouldn't even bother with the japanese variant. launcher looks horrendous. not to mention its just a minute upgrade
Software rules the roost with phones now, most phones are capable of doing similar things and only software seperates them from the pack.
I will be happy with my SIII for a long time to come i believe especially with the development community.
Would you be happy with your SIII if you'd never read about this new revision? I think so.

By fail I meant failure to provide proper support for exynos by a month or two, and not failure as a smartphone manufacturer. I'm well aware that they hold a huge chunk of the world's mobile phone market. Exynos 5250 is a beast there's no denying that. Don't get me wrong. I love the exynos chipsets. They performs better than any other chipset of its equivalent generation. It's just the lack of support that's getting me. I miss using smooth n properly optimized aosp/aokp roms. The one's there are available now are nowhere near to the nexus in terms of smoothness despite having a hardware that's more than twice as much powerful.
Not bashing samsung. In-fact I used to be hardcore HTC. But the main reason [or atleast 75%] why I switched to samsung is for the exynos chipset. I'm really hoping they provide proper support for it soon.
Yeah when they don't provide the documentation I understand why you're mad, I am too. I would like a fully buttery AOSP/AOKP ROM

Samsung did it again .... So stupid

Here we go again Samyy halts the S7 N updated .... I hate to bring the bad news but I am getting pissed with sammy
well we pay so high prices for Sammy's phones to get a good phone
First, it is so loaded with sammy's interface that kills the device resources.
Second the phones freezes more than ever all the sammys phones they freeze when they are coming from Idle state
third we got the updates very very very very late .... so when some others got alreadu Nougat and they are enjoying it for so many months
sammy decides to wait and wait and wait and then in the end at a point when we are about to get rid of the device sammy comes with here we go this is you update when I am waiting for my next phone to come in shipment
I am kinda pissed and I am guessing this might be the last Sammy phone.
this is too much

I'm actually disappointed in Samsung as well. My biggest complaint is that anyone willing to dish out $600+ on a phone should be able to do whatever they please to customize the phone to their liking. While everyone is enjoying the international version of the S7 with the Exynos octacore, the users on the US version running snapdragon quadcore are locked down with pretty much nothing to do. I've had several issues with my phone. The phone is loaded with 339 apps and I can't uninstall them. I can disable them, but there are still services running in the background and the awesome piece of hardware doesn't even work properly because all the resources are consumed by the numerous amounts of bloatware. I get people's frustration about the phone. I've tried cleaning it as much as I can, but it doesn't matter because even with all the greenify, forcedoze, leandroid tweaks it still drains more battery than it should and the performance is mediocre at best. The only thing I can say is Samsung does a great job with their camera's. I too ended up having to buy a new phone because I didn't want to keep playing with this thing just so that it operates like I want it to. I don't even use it for gaming or anything like that. Just multitasking, social media every now and then and that's all. Touchwiz is very laggy, and I don't blame people to be frustrated. That's just my opinion though.

Just multitasking, social media every now and then and that's all. Touchwiz is very laggy, and I don't blame people to be frustrated. That's just my opinion though.

Honestly it's your fault. You should have researched about the phone, in specific that variant before buying it. There were PLENTYYYY of sites online, Including XDA who reported that the bootloader was locked in the Snapdragon US variants.
I def do my research. I'm no novice when it comes to technology. I just think if you're buying something for $600 it would be fair to have a device that works properly. Not lags.. Wouldn't you agree?
I have an international S6 that is unlocked, but that phone has spotty LTE connection due to the bands. With the S7 I would run into the same issue if I were to get the international version.
The bootloader is only a small thing. The BIG issue is the lag and resource constraints in the phone. There is no need for all the bloatware. That's all I'm saying.

I'm not sure if the processor is the only difference in the performance. I'm assuming in terms of the software is concerned, it should be fairly similar in ROM's. However as I mentioned above I have 339 apps that come stock on my phone. This includes all the t-mobile apps, samsung apps, system apps etc... Now I'm not sure which ones are the ones that are so resource heavy, but I'm telling you when I switch between apps in the background there is a delay. When I scroll through a website there is a delay, when I read news from flipboard there is a delay. In terms of battery usage, I've used greenify, forcedoze, leanify and a few other apps that people on here recommended and the apps did help, but it still didn't really improve the performance. The CPU governor is set to interactive. I know I can raise the clock to make it more responsive, but I shouldn't have to do that at the cost of my battery and life of my phone. I think Samsung does an amazing job with the hardware they provide for the user; it's the software that I believe is throttling the heck out of the performance. However for those of you that have no complaints, it seems it's because you're on the Exynos version. The snapdragon version unfortunately has more issues than just the bootloader being locked.
