How can I prevent the gallery from showing "certain files and folders"? There has to be a means of blocking or making them hidden, password protected, something.

Create a .nomedia file and drop it into the folder of pictures you want hidden.

There's an app in the play store called Pandora Box. It allows you to store any of your photos in it with a password, & this is probably the easiest way. Hope I've helped.
Most definitely. Thank you

Today, I opened gallery after a long time. It was full of all sorts of pictures! If you watch any kind of movie, gallery saves few pictures from that! I don't know how this happens, because there are no settings to avoid this.
So did you watch a p0rn clip and it shows up in Gallery? LoL
busted!

Add a blank file named .nomedia to any directory you don't want Gallery to index.
This can also speed the start-up process.

Ok It worked once I restarted my device, but is there a way to block audio form games like Gangstar and asphalt from being shown in your music app?
Is there a .noaudio file or something?
Just be glad you found it first, not your wife/girlfriend

I believe that has something to do with exiting out of the game with home, or LCD Density changer, its one of them, used to happen to me as well,
I'm trying to hide some pictures from folders that I need from the Gallery app.. I used to do this by adding a ".nomedia"folder.. But since I got the galaxy s3 it doesn't seem to be working that way.. I can't delete the pictures or the apps won't work.. Does anybody have a fix for this.. Without downloading a application for it? Thanks for any help you can give me!

I used to use a folder.. But either way neither of them work (file/folder)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
just add the .nomedia file to the folder.

How are you adding the file? Maybe I can walk you through it... check you private messages if you need help still
After you add the .nomedia file, clear gallery cache, reboot, and see if the pictures are there.
I did... I have never had a problem doing this before.. Until the galaxy s3 its soo strange., I appreciate everyone's help thank you so much.. I just can't figure this out. I will post some screen shots

I just sent you a link in a private message with the nomedia file i created - maybe the one your creating has a permissions issue, so maybe if you download that one and put it in your directory, then clear the data and reboot it will fix your issue...
I had this problem too. Download hide it pro and you can set pics to not show in the gallery.

I think your problem is using myfiles to create the file - try using a different file explorer - i use root explorer but there are others ones like astro that should work, then clear the data and reboot....

Why are you adverse to downloading an app to accomplish your goal? There are free apps that do what you need and with a lot less time and hassle.

I'm looking for a Photo Hiding App that requires a password to enter the app and then the ability to have folders inside the app that requires a password for each folder. Just like Photo Vault on the iPhone. I'm a photographer and I keep my clients sample pics on my phone and I need the ability to make sure they don't look at other folders while looking at there pics. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!!!

I'm a photographer and I keep my clients pic samples on my phone for them to view…..and I don't want them to be able to open another clients folder and see there pics…..that's why I want to be able to lock each folder with it's own password I was using Photo Vault on the iPhone and it was perfect, but I can find anything like it it for android.

Anyone found a version of myknox that works on the S8? I can do secure folders, and I see that knox is installed, but I can't create a myknox workspace... Boo...
Looks liek it cost money now? https://www.samsungknox.com/en/solutions/knox-workspace
That is an MDM (Mobile Device Management). It is for enterprises not for consumers.
I guess my use of the work workspace was confusing. Sorry. I definitely mean for a personal device, not corporate managed by MDM.

What does the feature do though?
For personal use? As I understand it it's basically military level security to separate business and personal apps. Also, you only get a 30 day free trial.

Correct. MyKnox was knox for regular users to enjoy the secure secondary workspace using the knox security platform. Secure folder is just the next version of myknox, incorporating all the suggestions they received to make it less complicated, a bit faster, and more seamless for regular users. Most users were not using the full launcher setup in myknox, but the folder mode. There is no difference in the encrypted volume afaik. If you like the older two phones style, you can just sideload myknox. Not sure if it still works, but on the S7 you could install both, and have a total of 3 environments.
Try this,
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6WG7_c-hYT8SlVJVHpSSkNiNlE/view?usp=drivesdk
First install Knox.apk, next install KnoxManager.apk
Go in your home drawer and enjoy✌

That's the one! I like the idea that my work could screw up their MDM, and send a hard wipe to my phone, and it only affects that little segmented blob, not my whole phone!

It's not a 30 trial.
The user version is free.
The enterprise version is what costs. Knox allows companies to even do things like DEP (Apple term) for all their devices to force device management on them. You can even push custom Samsung made firmware on KME enabled devices. Quite powerful stuff. Knox takes advantage of the hardware encryption on the device and encrypts all data at rest, in memory and in CPU. It's quite powerful.
Oh, and any MDM (mobile device management) system that pushes commands on the device, uses Knox APIs for most of the features. There are only a few basic Google APIs used for MDM. Rest are customized by Samsung - they are one of the very few, if not the only OEM that puts a TON of effort into adding APIs for MDMs to add new features.
