Im coming from a 14day trial period with the evo 4g lte to the S3 and love both phones. they are both great. I like the S3 as a phone just a little bit better but I miss my evo 4g lte purely because I got twice as good battery life then my s3. How is it the evo dominates the s3 in this regaurd. Both devices are/were rooted with good battery saving roms. I can get a full day of medium/light usage without charging the s3. But I could get 2 days easily with medium to light usage. What gives?

You are confused.
First of all, your screenshot is useless - you don't show the actual graph, screen on time, nor voice calls.
Second of all, I own both phones at the same time. SGS3 is somewhat better at battery life than evo lte. Either 1) your sgs3 battery is defective, or 2) you haven't used sgs3 enough to allow calibration of voltage to battery capacity, or 3) your signal strength is not the same as with evo lte - lower signal strength = more battery consumption.
With light usage I got over 14 hours of battery usage and 90% battery strength left. With the bad signal reception at times I get 14 hours and 65%, which tells me it also depends on reception. Now let me just say that bar fro bar -dbm for -dbm my SG III is on par with my Photon in weak signal and strong signal reception every where that I have been. I still have my Photon comparing signal strenth bars, and -dbm for signal reception, and hands down they are very close -dbm and signal wise. I usually dont see more than 2-3 difference in -dbm.
I returned the evo lte for the s3 days ago and I couldn't be happier. I was getting great battery life with the evo but then I realized that it was because I didn't like the phone and all I did was make phone calls and send texts. The S3 is doing great for me considering that I don't put it down for more than a few minutes

OP, get an extra battery. Problem solved.
I do get really ****ty service in my apartment. I turn my mobile network off altogether and use wifi at home. My phone always going in and out of roaming. That I'm sure isn't helping. I have an air rave on its way. Hopefully that helps

How on earth do you guys get so much screen time from your battery? My battery will last me all day and through the night, but me screen time will only be slightly longer than 2 hours.... What am I doing wrong??

An airave will definately help. You'll have full bars in your place (only annoyance is it will drop your call if you leave the house when your phone drops off the airave). Might want to make sure you limit the connections if you live in an apartment though, otherwise everyone else with a sprint phone will connect to your airave.
I wonder if using wifi calling, which I believe shuts down the cell radio, would save power? Also, who is using power saving regularly?

Actually anyone can do wifi calling if they have a Google voice number. It's just that T-Mobile has it built in and doesn't require Google voice. An app named Groove IP is great for this. However I don't think it would make much of a difference in battery life over a regular call.
keep in mind guys, the forums are combined. GSM users are almost always going to have better battery life than their cdma counterparts.
Yeah but you cant swap in backup batteries on the eve lte . backup battery usage negates all battery usage issues.

Truth but like you said only T-Mobile has it out of the box.I have use groove IP in the past and is not too bad actually.good thing about my plan is the T-Mobile wifi calling is free minutes even if I'm outside the us.is not perfect but it works fair enough

I would make sure that the s3 is set to cdma only and not cdma/lte. Having the lte on when there is no lte network drains your battery quicker.

I've been reading up on a couple threads, but would like to get some more information...
what are your opinions on the MT4G vs the Samsung Vibrant? Anyone gone from one to the other?
I just got rid of my iphone 3G that I've had for over 2 years...I had a free upgrade from T-Mobile so I tried out the MT4G. I took it back the next day because the battery life SUCKED! And that's being polite about it. It didn't even last me all day, and I was in either edge or no service all day...I never went into a 4G or 3G area.
I now am using a BB 9780, but am wondering, was I too harsh on the MT4G? Should I give it more time? It's coming down to the Vibrant or the MT4G. Everywhere I'm reading, the only con is the battery life...it seems to be a consensus that HTC botched that part of the phone.

Since there is nothing wrong with the MT4G's battery life, that would be why. Constantly searching for service uses a ton of battery...certainly more than being on 3G/4G consistently all day.
Sorry, I'll be more clear. I was in service at my house, and then I went into the boonies to watch a basketball game and lost service for 3 hours (switched to airplane mode the entire time). I was never flipping back and forth...I had service, lost service, had service. That's it.
Yeah I gotcha. I'm saying that's why your battery life seemed so bad.
How though? If I used the phone in edge, put it in airplane mode, and then turned off airplane mode and was back in edge...how would that eat battery life? That makes zero sense to me. My iphone did just fine in edge/airplane mode
I have had no battery issues similar to yours. When I was still traveling frequently, the phone was actually able to make it a 6-7hr car drive through the boonies in/out of signal searching for service the entire time and still above 50% battery.
I came from an iPhone 4 and I absolutely love my MYT4G...i had some battery issues (would last me almost the full day) so I downloaded juicedefender and told it to connect to the internet every 15m to download data. I unplugged my phone at 9 this morning and I still have 33 percent remaining as of now.
Don't get a vibrant. The myTouch 4G is one of the best android phones out on the market right now and everyone who has a vibrant ends of regretting it.. GPS issues, etc.

Do either of your live in 4G areas? If so, does that eat it much? How do you like the 4G speeds? I had my iphone stolen once, and replaced it with a BB Curve 3G, and the 3G ate up that batteries life, so much that I'd switch off to EDGE before getting frustrated and buying another iPhone off craigslist.
My only concern is I need a phone that will last all day...between class/practice/tutoring, etc...I don't always have time to get back to my dorm to charge my phone, I'm running around all day. One of the perks of the iPhone was it lasted me all day, though again that was on edge all day.

My parent's house is in a 4G area and I don't notice any battery use change whatsoever. I know what you mean about the iPhone...my iP4 lasted all day and still had like 60% battery life at the end, but all my friends who had iP4's on AT&T with 3G all had like 20ish percent. If you use Juicedefender like I do, I guarantee that your MYT4G will last the entire day...You might also want to invest in a backup battery from Target that you can use to plug into your phone when it starts getting low
Thanks. I honestly wish I coulda stayed with the iphone, but ios4.3 and after will not include updates for the 3G, they are getting fazed out. And I have a free upgrade, so I thought I'd try something else.
Is rooting worth it on the MT, if that applies to yours? I JB all my other iPhone's, so curious to see what it'd be like on another device.
Yes, I do live in a 4G area. My phone IS my radio in the car with Pandora on my commute, and if I'm out and about with the wife (lol shopping, sigh...) also my entertainment. About the only time I perceptibly notice battery drain is playing 3D games for an extended period of time, but for just SMS/Email/Web it doesn't seem to noticeably drain.
Rooting is certainly worth it even if the only thing you do is install AdFree -- no more wasting bandwidth and battery downloading ads that you probably don't want to see anyhow . Also, root while you can, if just for future use -- HTC has started blocking one of the existing methods on newer models being shipped.
As for 4G speed:

Do they make an adapter for the MT so you can play it through your radio, or are you just using a universal one?

As for which phone is better that is personal choice. I have a vibrant and my wife has a mytouch. I personally like my vibrant better but that's just me. As for the battery life these phones are expected to use a hella amounts of juice because they are mini pcs. I noticed my screen takes most of the battery. After a proper battery recondition I can easily get about 17 hours out of a single charge. If you are looking at the vibrant wait for the vibrant 4g that's gonna drop next month.
Oh and to play the music through car speakers any fm transmitter will do, just know if you live in a heavily populated are the reception will be ****ty. I had to remove my antenna to make out work half way decent.

Yes, I actually live right across the river in IL, too
I use the line-in jack to my car directly into the headphone jack on the phone, runs through AUX on my car stereo. Sounds great! Also any calls I receive broadcast through the car speakers and the phone automatically goes to speaker phone mode to pick up my voice, then resumes playing my music right where it left off when the call is finished.
so do you know where Brighton is?
what is ice glacier exactly? I see you have it and have seen others refer to it, but not what it actually is/does?
My g-friend has the mt4g and loves it. I changged the keyboard for her cause we both hated the stock one. Hers is left stock for now but I would say its worth it to root for juice defender-under/overclocking-blocking ads ect. Those will all help with battery life. If im not mistaken iced glacier is a rom u can flash to it. I assume u know about flashing roms and what they do. U just have to read about the rom. Glacier is htc's name for the mt4g
Edit: and being able to remove bloatware. Also good for space/battery issues.

I bought an extra battery with a stand alone charger that charges the battery by itself. So, if i am going to be away for an extra long time, i just bring the extra charged battery. that being said, i easily get about 14 to 18 hours with moderate use out of my battery.
Aside from knowing that it's similar to jailbreaking, I have no idea what flashing roms is

Yeah I'd go ahead and do it...I was a hardcore iOS user (I've owned all 4 iphones) and I jailbroke and unlocked all of em (up til 4.1). I am rooted and since I don't like the sense ui too much, I installed the gingerbread launcher and I love how my phone performs right now. I was running EDGE only on my iPhone with TMO, but I love how the MYT4G has native tethering and the overall android os
Flashing ROMS is very different from the iOS world, ROMS basically contain the entire OS and you can flash custom versions of the Android OS on your phone.
Mytouch 4G all the way! I had a vibrant but you have to root that thing and install a lagfix just to make it run right. I have had no battery issues with mine but I do have juicedefender and I have sense rooted and am running cyanogenmod 7 build #13 and I get amazing battery life. I can go all day with heavy useage and still have 20% come 9pm.
The only thing I miss about my vibrant is the screen.

Hey Everyone, Updating this post to reflect some new news about my battery life. On day 2 here. It's 2:25 PM in the afternoon and the Green bar has not even dropped from being full.
Now- It's important to note also. I received my phone on Sat at 10:10am. Let my phone go, NEVER charged it all day sat and used it. Let it SIT OVER NIGHT and never charged it.
Used it sunday as well and by the time I plugged it in it was not even yellow it was low, but not yellow and the Battery time said 1 Day and 6 hours and some change.
I think for tonight I'm not going to charge it either because most likely I will be at 80% or something the battery is so insane.. ill go into the next day.. I will post SCREENSHOTS for you guys later if you want.. but this battery life is SUPER amazing...

Maybe it's their Carriers and location?
I know the farther away from a tower you are the more "juice" the radio uses for the signal right? most people on here are over seas right? I live in the US and i'm on ATT living in a major city area.
+1 for great battery life. I'm a heavy user and came home after work and I'm at 40% (7-8pm). My vibrant would usually die by 5.

+1000 when the signal is weak the phone is constantly searching and is trying to "hang on" to the signal harder. I notice this all the time when I am at work in a crappy AT&T reception area in New York City.
I am more and more suspecting my old Captivate had better reception - I never was without signal at work. With SGS2, I sometimes pick the phone up from my desk only to find that there is no signal on it.

You may have a dodgy unit...I'm finding the battery life to be significantly better on my SGS2 than my original SGS (running your rom )
I recieved my S2 last weekend from Clove. Initially I thought it wasn't displaying the correct percentage. Turns out, for me, that it was as good as it seemed.
I've never seen such good battery life on a phone.
Currently on AT&T in MA USA, if it helps anyone.

So what did you get in its place?
When it's good, it is REALLY good...
But then suddenly, out of the blue, the battery graph will turn bezerk, and will try to plunge itself to death on the 0% line within about 12 hours...
But as long as the bug hasn't shown up yet: enjoy!
(probably fixable though in the near future, seeing how fast Samsung is already throwing out new firmwares for it...)

Battery Thoughts
Guys,
I have had mine now for a week and have noticed that unless I am in a relatively stable signal area I am only getting about 8-10 hours of reasonable use , which i have to say is absolutely rubbish, however I am swithching to GSM only, a lot more in areas where it would constantly be looking for stronger signals and hey presto 1-2 % per hour ish.
I have tried many combinations of apps removal and the above seems to be the only thing that appears to help.
Anyone have any or similar?

I'm not at all, and i'm here in the US on ATT. I do have that "bug" where it will say 3G then Switch back to H+ a lot back and forth, but even with that the battery life is AMAZING. So i'm thinking that bug isn't effecting things much.
I have NOT rooted my phone yet, and I have not "removed" any of the stocks apps yet.
I do PLAN on doing that, but i have not done so yet, and it's great.
Battery thoughts
I really am thinking that there is no uniform issue that fixes this and some people its great other s rubbish....may there is a dodgy batch of batteries that went out.....
Battery Life- Downs and Ups!
My first thoughts on the battery life were very positive. Almost 10 jours of constant playing and still some juice in the tank.
Then it all went a bit downhill, with it needing charging after just 4hrs. I found that was down to "Tektrak" app, therefore that was uninstalled never to return.
Even running AVG my phone was giving pretty good battery life, certainly a day of fairly heavy use.
I upgraded to the latest official Samsung firmware last week and since then the battery life has been incredible, despite the fact I live & work in dodgy reception areas.
I'm getting over 24hrs even running virus, Lifestyle's Bedside Night Clock overnight and using it quite extensively. It's still at the stage where all the iPhone users want to play with it to see what they're missing too so its on most of the day.
Frankly I can't believe how well it is performing. Don't know what Samsung have done but it seems to work.
Everyone seems to be having mixed reactions to the beattery life. Could possible be the way we use it or maybe faulty devices. But the reactions are almost 50-50 so it would be a disaster if half the number of devices turn out to be faulty.
I takes about 10 hours, the lesson download much battery? when I go to sleep I lose almost 15% of battery. Any solution?: (
Battery life is terrible.
I refuse to do what my friend does:
Turn vibrate off
Turn screen brightness to lowest
Phone is always connected to Edge - unless he's using the Internet - then he switches back to Edge
Syncs his email every 15 minutes (pull not push!!!)
Always 'freeing ram' and exiting apps
His life sucks.
I am the opposite. Full brightness, 4g , push mail for my 4 emails, exchange server (email and calendar) for work and so on.
I manage this by always having a spare battery that I charge with my battery charger dock lol.
Will be doing the same thing once I can get one for my S4
I know, so far it's been below expectations for me too - I ordered a portable energy bank from Amazon this morning, and I guess I'll just carry it around with me from now on.. What a shame - the phone is extremely powerful too..
Install gsam battery monitor and let it monitor your phone and see what is causing wake locks. Also let the battery go through 3-4 battery cycles before you start comparing battery life.
That'd weird. Isn't the 9500 or the 9505?
My battery exceeds my expectations by quite a lot. Best battery I've had on a smartphone so far, and I've had a few.
Where my 920 died, this one still has 50-70% remaning.
Thats with push mail, air view, air gestures, wifi, mobile data, auto brightness, screen rotation, sync, gps and multiwindow on constantly.

I am also curous how many hours does it take for the battery to reach 15% and how much screen on time do you get. Please post a few screenshots!
After a day i have like 30% left. Screen on time is about 2h.

battery life is not a issue here I don't think I can get to 15% easily most day I do not but I will try to get some pics posted after an all day use no promises I manage to be busy a lot lol.

I'm trying it right now. It takes a bit more than two days for the app to learn certain usage patterns. I still have to wait 8 hours until the actual battery savings start. Will report as soon as I have it working.

I get similar battery life as well. Sometimes 4 ton6 hours screen times
16 hour days
I found my battery life improved when I got rid of a poor quality 32gig media card and used another spare old16gig one.
I also dumped corrupted mp3 files and videos and got new ones.
I think poor sd card quality and bad mp3 files are partially responsible for lower battery life.

just got mine
first charge cycle
4 hours on screen
total 8 hours
15% left
not very good but i think it will get better

So far with battery saving on it seems that nothing changed... Will test it further with daily use. But battery life here, even before using the app was not bad by any means.

Yep. I'm really impressed with this phone s battery life, not too far from the note 2 battery life but not quite there.

Hello,
My S4 is nearly a week old now, it's the international GT-I9500 octa-core version. Since it dons a big battery of 2,600 mAH (middle point of S3 and Note 2) it was suppose to last long more even with heavy usage.
My usage is moderate, a few calls, but I use connectivity extensively i.e. WiFi indoors and Mobile Data outdoors.
I tried switching off the WiFi to preserve battery and to see any boost but zilch.
Whenever I put the phone on charge, it charges very quickly and when the charging is complete and I remove the phone from the charger, it discharges pretty quickly, goes to 99% in a minute WITHOUT any usage.
What could be the issue? I even formatted my memory card from S4 as I read some bad mp3 files or something can cause the battery drain and such.
Everything is stock, both ROM and Kernel and the phone is not rooted atm
I'm attaching the screenshots for my cycle with minimal WiFi and Data usage.

Brightness is already kept at Auto with the throttle set to 0.

I can get more than 16hours on my S2 easily with average usage...This is just BS optimization from Samsung...
It's better than the s3 because the battery is larger but I'm telling you that screen is a hog. It's larger and brighter and its 1080p; yes the resolution causes the gpu to eat more battery too.

I freaking hate watching my battery drop.. and mine goes by quite quick. . I have wifi and mobile data on.. When I leave my house I toggle off wifi. I read that having mobile data on all the time doesn't use battery. . Is that true?
Anyway. .I just turn off the battery percent.. Can't stand putting the phone to sleep at 80 and turning it back on 20 min later at 75.

im wondering if there's a way to switch the screen to 720 mode instead of 1080p to save battery life. similar to switching a computer monitor so you stress the gpu less during a game... this would also save a small percentage of battery life...
also a more efficient auto-brightness would be great.

Same here, hate watching the battery drop so soon. For me, what I've observed is that WiFi eats a lot of battery than mobile DATA for this set when it should be the other way around...
I have my internet disconnected at home due to some upgrading of the lines in my area so I haven't been using WiFi at home, only at office, so mobile DATA was switched on all day yesterday at home and when I go outside and surprisingly the battery didn't drain a lot.
I'll post screenshots of this cycle as soon as the battery drains down to 2%

No! Mobile data is one of the biggest battery killers going! I have my toggle within the first 5 so I can turn it on and off when I need it easily

With big screen and higher resolution, it will definitely consume more power. try to turn off screen and kill running apps when not needed.
16hours on battery is quite good considering the WIFI indoor and Data on.
i probably get a little bit more than that but less wifi usage and data is only EDGE in my country.

Nothing alarming
Firstly, your stats are perfectly normal. I got the same results on my stock octa core version.
Try omega its much better battery consumption wise. Other tips: Switch to 2g only if you are using your phone just for chatting, keep backups off and turn unnecessary sync off. Turn off your screen tap sounds.
You might already know all this.
Anyhow, trust me 16hours at 60% is not bad. Hopefully samsung will do something about it with future updates.
CHEERS.
Ow and if you are over with your honeymoon with all the air motion gestures smart eye tracking features, turn them off if you want to save some more.

Many people on various phones had this problem I am not sure how to avoid this, its not happening on every phone for sure.

Check your battery stats, that could easily be that you were in an area with low signal, which causes the phone to struggle to find service; thus wasting battery
I only know a temporary fix which is to turn on airplane mode then you can turn on wifi at the same time just thought it may help you figure out a more longterm solution.

It's a known bug with lollipop. It apparently has been fixed in Marshmallow. Wait for the update. There's not much you can do til then except stay on WiFi.

Thanks did and we will see when it gets charged to 100% its weird I think this also happens on WiFi but I can't tell for sure..

My phone does the same thing but when I go to battery stats and check it my cell signal bar isn't green at all. Orange and yellow is all I get because I get weak signal in my house. I never get time without signal in my battery stats tho.
I had a nexus 6 before this phone and it was the same thing except I would get 12-20% time without signal and it really killed my battery.
I haven't had a single day with this phone where I didn't get at least 4 hours of screen on time. The best I have gotten was 6 hours on wifi
The thing that works best for me is when I have WiFi on, I turn mobile data off. That works wonders and elongating my battery life at home. When custom ROMs begin to pop up, I believe CM patched the issue but we will see. But when you're home on WiFi, turn data off unless you need it and see how that works

MobileActiveRadioFix module in Xposed Framework is supposed to fix it (although I just deactivated it because it seemed to have made it worse for me).
I played around in my network settings this morning, searched for networks, and selected Verizon (previously I just let it activate on its own) and that seems to have helped my battery so far.

Which network you on ? just put it in global mode and search for networks and select your carrier/unless you have domestic roaming then you can select other carrier to roam on. When I was in Europe and my prepaid carrier had roaming on all carriers that is how I would switch manually between carriers.

Something ain't right if your getting that low of screen on time. I just charged my phone today was off the charger for 24 hours and I had 5.5 hours of screen on time on WiFi and I don't ever have green in my signal stats its always orange and yellow.
I always keep my data, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, moto display tweaks off at home and in getting great battery life. I've only charged this phone 6 times in 8 days because I wait til it's really low to charge and the quick charger has it full within a hour anyways
