Has anyone noticed their back camera lens start to peel off? The top of mine pops up ever so slightly and I can push it back down. It'll sit for a while but come up again no matter how long I hold it.
Maybe I could some how heat it up enough to where the glue melts that I can hold it in place. I ordered mine online and really don't want to go through the exchange process. It would be like taking your baby back to the hospital after he's born for another two weeks.
You sure thats just not the protective plastic the a500 comes with ?
No, its certainly that black peice of glass (or plastic) that's over the lens.

That sucks! Did it just happen or did it get hit or was maybe left in a hot car or something?
I know you don't want to but I think its best to return it.

I'd like to see a pic.
It isn't the lense that is popping off, it is simply the plastic covering. Mine is popping a bit as well, think I'll crazy glue it down.
Yeah, its not the lens but I wasn't about to put "plastic camera thing is peeling" in the subject lol
Here's a picture

I really want to exchange it. I ordered mine online and picked it up at my local bestbuy store. I called the store and they said I couldn't do exchanges in-store for an online order. Bestbuy.com says differently. I emailed them both hoping to get a definite answer.

Wow. Discovered today that if I push on the back camera, even the slightest pressure, the camera doesn't work. The camera app shows a big green screen. I'm starting to think that it isn't the glass frame that's off but the whole camera module it self.
Add just a little more pressure and you can see distortion on the display opposite of where the camera is placed. There must not be anything between the camera module and the LCD.
Definitely sound like you got a defective model.
I wouldn't suggest anyone start putting pressure on the camera housing to test. It's not like they were built for anything other than it's normal function and day to day stresses.
agentdax5, return it however you have too. I wouldn't try and fix it or make it any worse. Just package it up and send it back.
Exchanged it today no problem but it looks like this one has the same problem...
Not as bad as before but still. Almost makes me want to return it and wait for a Galaxy Tab 10.1
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
I'd take it right back then on the next exchange, open it up in front of them and check.
Thanks for the advice. I should be going back tomorrow. They had 3 left when I went, hope they don't happen to sell them by then.

A total of 3 exchanges later i finally got one without the lens peeling!

I guess I was just lucky, no peeling here.

My device is in service because of that. When the new one has the same problem, I'm a bit pissed of. In my country this device costs 600$...
Whoever told you that was full of BS

I ordered my A500 online and picked it up at my local Best Buy. When I got it home it had a 1.5 inch crack running across one corner of the screen. I took it back the next morning and they swapped it out (after I convinced them I didn't break it). There was never any question of how I ordered it or if I just came in and picked it up. You should report whoever at that store told you that to the manager, and if it was the manager report it to the home office. Times are tough enough without stupid employees running off customers over BS like that.
I don't have this problem
Tried to apply pressure to the rear and front camera while the photo app was open and no mishaps. As for surface peeling I've not had any such issues and frankly, after inspection, have a hard time seeing how any such problem would be possible.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App
mine is identical in the fact that its peeling. i just push it down might get some double sided tape to put it down better. no biggie.
Does anyone else have this issue? Primarily my umm.. My Home and Back button are really worn, like they're losing their gloss/silver finish and are now turning black, I am not sure if this has ever been addressed, but is there a way to buy replacement buttons or re-apply some silver marker ink on this to fix this? I know it's fairly trivial but still. It bothers me, like.. when a sticker starts to peel in just it's corner and kinda curl, it makes me want to rip the whole thing off, OCD maybe!? :silly:
You are not alone
I will be having my Xperia PLAY for a one year at the end of August, during this time I was always caring about it, placing it only on its back, never on its front/touchscreen. But about 3 months ago I noticed that the bottom of back key (about 1 milimeter wide, 2mm long) started to wear out. Also the bottom left corner of search key is worn out, the same thing with bottom left corner of the menu button. But these spots are only mili/micro ones. I don't really care about it.
I think its somehow "normal" if I can name it in that way.
Also I think it's possible to buy new keys but IMHO it's waste of money. I suggest you to deal with it as I did

I was thinking about trying to sand off the rest of the silver bits so they're black. I think that would look better.
I tried taking a screenshot to show what mine are like but it never works...

I was thinking of doing the same, would be interesting, and yeah it would fit the phone's color scheme (at least mine) if it was all black.
I only had play for five months and it's already happening, my back button is wearing out.
This is probably the worst build quality phone I ever had. I love it so much, I wish the build quality and materials were better

Little black specs appearing on 4 hardware buttons on the front panel ... slightly annoying but no big deal as long as the buttons themselves don't wear out and stop working.
If possible though, I'd like to either replace them or have them totally black.
oh good, I thought it was just me
someone has to sell a replacement part for those keys right? has anyone checked ebay?

Is that case sturdy enough? I've owned some really horrible phone covers so far, one of which being Otterbox. They're not entirely bad, but the Xperia Play's versions are absolutely horrible, if you press the R or L button, it would slide off entirely. Trident cases are nice though, but they don't cover as much.
Mine are worn very well ...

maybe removing the chrome definitely getting the black buttons
My back button has gone loose though. Its kinda wobbly.

Ive only had mine a couple months but the search button is all mooshy (not clicky anymore) lol. But Sony phones are built like bricks.

i am starting to think that maybe some sort of resilient silver paint would be better, but here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3n5ZfkqhzE
here's a video on how to disassemble the Xperia Play, maybe you can get to the buttons from there and actually customize them like that?
Post back results if anyone does this.
So with the nexus and others that don't have a replaceable battery what happens if you get a bad battery? You have to send the entire device in? Nearly all of my phone batteries go bad or degrade to the point of not being able to make it through the day within a year. Isn't this an important issue?
RMA back to Asus, or find the battery at a website, pop the back cover and replace it yourself.

Exactly.. Google was awesome with this tablet.. No prying off glued on covers and bezels, no heat guns, no setting a few hours of your time aside for a arts and crafts project dismantling your tablet..
It's almost like Google wants your products to be used for a long time..
Unlike the IPad, the back is not glued on and the battery actually has a connector, making replacement easy.
thanks for the replies, makes me feel a lot more comfortable about getting one.
Would really like like a 10" one. Hopefully we'll know in 3 days!
You won't regret it. This tablet is almost perfect. SD slot...perfection. I'm.coming from a 10"...7 is the perfect size. Tablet is truly portable. 10 is too big for me.

I would suggest RMA to ASUS, but it's most likely that at the time your battery goes bad, the warranty of it would be expired.

Yeah, that's why the screen-size of 7'' is amazing. And most importantly, its width is approximately twice the length of thumbs, thus allowing users to comfortably type in via the virtual keyboard (almost the same experience as using a real keyboard)
So...I just died a little inside...
What I've foolishly done is dropped my Nexus 7 screen side down onto floorboards and as you can see in the attached picture...something has gone awry. I'm assuming that it's the digitiser that's broken??? - is there anything I can (relatively) easily do with limited knowledge of this kind of stuff (via tutorials?)? Or would I be best replacing the device? When the screen is on, the individual bars change colour, cycling through purple, black, but mostly white. The tablet makes the unlocking sound and I can VERY faintly see some aspects of my home screen.
Any help would be appreciated. Rotten start to the new year.
Located in Melbourne, Australia, if that's of any use...
you could check out Tablet repair shops on Craiglist . They usually fix cell phones and tablets for 10 to 40 bucks. Its worth it.
if you are good with tools you could pop it open your self and see if any cables are messed up, give you a better idea on what you need to replace

I try to repair anything I can, Its usually cheaper and also a good chance to gain experience with this stuff. I cant tell you how many screens ive had to replace on my wifes Iphone haha. As far as tutorials go youtube has a whole bunch of them some are more thorough then others Heres a good one to get ya started. Nexus 7 Tear Down
Here is a written tutorial for removing the screen assembly. Between these two you should have no problems! Nexus 7 screen repair
If it still has warranty, you can copy everything you need off the SD card and get it replaced. You can try sending it to a repair shop, but it might be cheaper to buy a new one.
called asus and they told me that it'll cost $220 to replace the device as they won't repair it. I've copied everything over to my pc and I'll probably have a crack at giving it a tear down and fixing it. otherwise I think I'll upgrade to the 32gb as I've found 16gb to be too restrictive. annoying (for me) that there will be a new model in ~6 months time...

just completed the tear down - my battery took ages to remove due to an insane amount of glue (yay for asus build quality?). was interesting to go through the process, but, sadly, the issue with the digitiser persists. I'm going to do some shopping around and see how much I can get the 32gb model for in store, other wise I may even buy (a grey import) one from kogan.com.
Is the screen actually cracked? I could not make it out from the picture.....If not why could you not just get it sent back as faulty? If there is no physical damage how could they tell? But then again you have opened it now............... Good luck.

No cracks and I thought of this straight after tearing off the security stickers Thing is, two out of the three security stickers I was told to remove in the tear down tutorial were already missing. Also, there were several black (ink/oil?) smudge-y finger prints on the copper shielding when I opened it...hmmm
RIP Nexus 7......
replace!
quicker and cheaper...
repair would cost around 70-80% of a new nexus 7
My Nexus 10 has strange "swelling" under the plastic back (above the letter "E"). It looks like something lifts that part of the back. I can feel it under my fingers. And because of that Nexus 10 plastic back is not aligned with the removable part of the cover.
What might that be? What is located in that part of the back? Unfortunately, I do not have the tools necessary to remove the cover.
I'm going to guess your Lithium battery is going bad and puffing up. I'd recommended turning it off and not charging your device till you can get the back cover off and inspect it. They can exoplode.

I know someone who could disasamble the device. But I have no idea if he will be able to asamble it. Does it require some special tools (heating etc.)?

I'm not sure, but I'd definitely see what's going on with it before I continue to charge it. Could be a defective battery from the factory. Could be it just wasn't assembled properly. If you've only had it a week I'd exhange it.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Well, it was not the battery. The plastic back of my Nexus 10 was not properly assembled with the display. It was necessary to take it off and... assemble again. That's all. It's fixed now. :good:
How on earth this device could pass any quality check before leaving the factory is a mystery to me.

I'm lucky that in my town I found someone who was brave enough to dismantle this device. (BTW, he needed 30 minutes to "fix" this).
Otherwise I would have to... well, I certainly would not try to send it back to Samsung in America and wait several weeks to receive the same device with (probably) more issues.
