Greetings friends, some of you know or have a SIM-Unlock HTC Wildfire, I have a phone of these and I could not release it so I could put a simcard from another carrier, as it is DIGITEL and I want to use with MOVISTAR, and the Phone is S-OFF, the ROOT and also has the 2.2.1 version of Android FROYO.
If anyone knows of a utility that Serve me and is not to pay online because I have no way to pay in another currency because we have here in VENEZUELA with Limited Dollars. Thank you very much for all your help provided.
The only way i know of is from a shop that unlocks phones or via a code from ebay or similar. We @ xda have seriously tried to find a method but failed. Sorry but it looks like your going to have to pay up some dollar.

im 2 looking for a solution i have brought my wildfire 2day and need it sim unlocked please some1 help or point me in direction of good company/shop. thanks and im new here and not used to android i am coming from blackberry so its all new but so far i like it and hello to you all. just another Q. i have been told by my friend to s-off. I dont know what this is :S but i was told to search so i will do my search and hope to learn more about this s-off thing then use another person rom on my wildfire
S-OFF means that the security flag has been turned off, which allows you to install a custom recovery and unlock the full potential of your phone
You can still install a custom recovery when S-ON (HTCDev unlock), but being S-ON doesn't allow you to edit anything on the internal memory once the OS is loaded.
Best way to achieve S-OFF and install a custom recovery. is to use Revolutionary.

Well, once you get a custom recovery running, you can then install custom ROMs, tweaks and mods and stuff.

Bit of a basic question really for all the Orange users out there (and crossposted a little) but by rooting is the warranty on a contract phone invalidated?
Basically before doing any kind of flashing to new roms I want to backup (simple - incase anything goes wrong but also so I can "preserve" any warranty by going back to the original Orange state), but to backup using Nandroid you need to root first (correct?) - so my concern is if by the process of backing up you are breaking the warranty anyway...if it's worth it.
Not sure if you need to root to Nandriod Backup. I thought you just :
1) put the phone into recovery mode (power-off, hold 'back' and power-on)
2) did a fastboot boot cm-recovery.img
3) select backup from that menu.
TBH, the first thing I did was root my Orange phone and THEN started playing with ROMS, so I could be wrong.
A pristine (non-rooted) Orange ROM is available from Modaco's site if you need to revert. Also, rooting simply changes the ROM. I'm more woriied that's I've unlocked the phone!
Hello,
Yea this is all pretty new to me however it would indeed seem you don't have to root to do a backup (which is perfect). I just figured it's best getting a back up how it is now before *any* changes are made.
I don't know anything about doing a fastboot though, could you point me in the direction of a newbie guide or something?
Also I didn't know the original Orange ROM was avilable - that's very useful to know! Thanks!
Fastboot documented here
http://andblogs.net/fastboot/
Probably need to install the Andriod SDK, too:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/1.5_r3/index.html
SDK 1.6 is available, but I don't know if that causes any isses - I use 1.5.
Lots of good info on:

Good Luck!

Hi CombinedEffort
I've got an Orange Hero that is SIM & CID locked and as such I cannot download the official HTC ROM update. I have already nandroid backed up and rooted, but I not too sure about flashing new ROMS (ie. Modaco's). As you say you rooted then started playing with ROM's so hope you can answer a few questions.
-Did your Orange phone come from Orange direct and was SIM & CID locked?
-How have you unlocked your phone? Was it just a SIM unlock code, or have you managed to CID unlock too? (I've seen a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559806 about CID unlocking that requires you to make a serial debug cable - something I'm trying to avoid, but will to do if need be).
-Even if you haven't CID unlocked your phone, were you still able to flash custom ROMs, as long as you don't flash a new radio?
-Did you use the "update.zip" method to flash new ROMs?
Sorry for the number of questions, but hope you're able to answer them.
Can't wait to get rid of the stock ROM
Cheers

I was under the impression that the process of rooting thereby allowed you to use other ROMS such as the offical HTC ones - if this isn't the case I'm also very interested in more information!

Well I took the plunge and flashed MoDaCo's 2.2 ROM. Looks like you were right, you can flash ROMs if you've rooted your phone. However I'm still not sure about flashing radios if your phone is CID locked - I got the impression this wasn't possible from other threads I've read.
So go right ahead and flash ROMs till your hearts content - don't forget to do a backup 1st though, just incase.
One issue I have with the new ROM though, I can send SMS but can't view the threads afterwards (just says "loading") also when receiving SMS I can't see them. Me thinks some investigation is needed

I unlocked the phone with http://hero.unlock-now.com/sim-unlock-HTC-Hero/
adq (Andrew de Quincey, by any chance?) hadn't posted his CID unlock by then, so I know nothing about that.

I did flash generic / custom ROMS hoping it would unlock the phone - it didn't, but I could still use the Orange SIM with the generic ROMS. Not sure how flashing the radio would affect this - I would have thought it wouldn't

No, rooting affects the *ROM* not the *phone*. Modaco's custom ROMs come pre-rooted.
I came from an iPhone 2G background where I was expecting to have to Jailbreak and unlock the phone before being able to do anything useful with it. This is not the case with the Hero. Out-of-the-box, you can boot the Hero to the bootloader and flash a custom ROM from there - VERY hacker friendly!

Hello,
I just got myself a new Desire HD from eBay to replace my HD2. Unfortunatly when I got it it was branded to t-mobile even though auction said it was new, sealde and unlocked.
I have managed to permroot it. What do I need to do now? I tried to run the HTC latest firmwas for this device and comes up with error131 wrong customer ID.
My knoledge is very basic about this so any help would be grateful.
Thanks
Robert
If the phone wasn't as described then return it. Was it sealed in its box?
Can you make & receive calls?
If your trying to flash a Stock HTC ROM over a T-Mobile branded/locked DHD you will get an error.
Hi thanks for reply.
Yeah the phone did not say in auction that it wasbranded just unlocked and sealed. When I got it I could see that it had been opened as the tape that was used to seal the box wasn't sticky anymore and it had been inserted the wrong way round. It has obviously been opened to unlock it.
As the phone is unlocked I thought I thought I would be able to flash any stock rom onto it that is avaliable. I really don't want t-mobile logos on startup and there apps when I have a vodaphone sim.
Thanks again.
If you want a generic HTC ROM you will need to root & S-OFF your DHD. Guides are available in the Dev section.
If you need any help just let us know. There are quite a few friendly people round here.
Hay thanks for the reply !!
I managed to do the permroot thing. I was reading up on anything I had to do else. Which guide would you recomend to do the S-Off? Can I just run the HTC.exe rom then to install it?
I was also reading up on something called supercid do I need to do this as well?
Thanks so much!! It saves me loads of hassle trying to return it. That and am phoneless without it at the moment lol
Robert
Hello
Would just like to say thanks I managed to get the stock HTC rom on the DHD thanks too the help on here.
Was just curious do I need to reactivate the S-OFF to go back to S-On i presume? If I did that would I still be able to install new stock roms when they come out now there is a stock rom on phone?
Thanks so much again. This phone is great Android is so much better supported that Windows Mobile!

No problem at all.
If you flashed the Stock HTC ROM from the RUU, then it will have Security On (S-ON) If you want to flash a custom ROM, then you will need to go through the whole procedure again, but flash a custom recovery (Clockwork Mod), to make the the whole process safer and easier.
i have a htc desire hd .and purchased a unlock code but when i turn phone on i dont get the enter unlock code, with wrong sim or without as stated by the code people and most people say the same turn, on phone with diff sim and enter your code, i dont get this screen is it possible to enter the code a different way?
as far as i have read its unlocked but whichever sim i put in it dont work
if i then put a voda or o2 etc sim in and try to connect it says, sim dont allow a connection to this network
any suggestions to this .
if i have to root ,install roms etc then so be it ,i just want the phone open to all networks...any advice is much appreciated
Hi,
Are you sure those SIM cards work in another handset?
Depending on your software version you may need to downgrade before you can root, apply S-OFF, and SIM Unlock.
yep all sims are current....i think i'll go down the road you say....i'll take a look
thanks .
My radio s-off tool can do simunlock, check it out.

LOCKED
Hello to all.
I'll get to the point... I've been wandering for several hours on this forum looking for information about rooting HTC Wildfire, and I found several threads. However my question is...
My phone is not locked to any carrier its "debranded" I can put any sim card I want. Majority of those threads I found were about debranding the device then rooting and installing custom roms.
This is my phone's info:
Code:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON

If I use "HTCDev" tool to unlock my phone.. can I go directly to Cyanogen website and do the tutorial without using any other means such as "revolutionary". Just use the "Method via Recovery" and be done with it?
Thanks in advance.
Revolutionary unlocks your bootloader as in gives you S-OFF . Which allows you to do more things (For example mess with the internal memory of your phone). As for the HTCDev tool, I'm not sure, but some users say it doesn't S-OFF it.
And after you achieved S-OFF you need to flash a custom recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12782368&postcount=2
So with my HBOOT-1.01.0001 I have to use Revolutionary.. and then CM7
Since other people have 0002 they have to downgrade to 0001 is that correct or I have to download some RUU. I'm sorry for my noobishness but I've never done this.
No need to downgrade, just use revolutionary.

Thanks for the information.
I plan on using this guide "wiki(dot)cyanogenmod(dot)com/wiki/HTC_Wildfire:_Full_Update_Guide" with the "Method via Recovery"
I assume this is a valid tutorial?

I've rooted the phone using Revolutionary
My next challenge would be custom rom and I'm planning on using CM7 mainly for the overclocking ability.
I got the whole job done in a couple of Hours (including the downgrade from 0002), loading the custom CM Rom was the easy bit, messing with the config is ongoing
When I first flashed CM7.1.0.1, the GPS didn't work, I had to also flash the latest Radio from the CM Wiki support downloads. Check it's working after your upgrade, easy to fix if not
Anyone heard about M9+ S-Off method in development?
It would be very nice to have that so we can change carrier ID.
At the moment we can't change from chinese to asia wwe or Taiwan etc etc firmwares or just CIDs, and thus who has a chinese CID in the aboot partition is bound to get Chinese news on blinkfeed. (I've gathered some information and this is the situation: blinkfeed is working with carrier id of the phone and other language resources. Read about this on E8 and chinese m8 phones, but now there's a solution for this with custom rom and mod, look up in this forum, CleanSlate or Mod Sense Home...)
I'd be willing to donate if S-Off would become possible. Of course we don't have the kernel sources yet, so it's very improbable that someone would be working on it already, but let's just start a discussion about this.
UPDATES:
So what we know so far,
- there's the JCard method possible which needs a service or a JCard at home
- the bootloader is type ABoot
- no method yet for s-offing without JCard
- no kernel sources out yet for the phone
J card works.
so far, only java card works
Thanks good to know about JCard thing!
Hopefully when kernel sources will be out, some brute force method can be found to access the protected partition and flip it to S-Off.
It would be nice to have a method that can be done with only software and PC.
There's been a recent dump of kernel sources yesterday on http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads but not the m9pw yet. Hope they release it soon enough, so someone can look at it. Hopefully a hoard of M9+ users would be willing to donate for the one who brings such method. I'll be first in line to donate.
Maybe there's already a similar device with MTK and similar boot loading mechanism cracked?
Do someone know if there were any other HTC device with MTK chipset S-Offed without JCard, like S-Off with revone and such methods?
Not sure if the sunshine boys are going to be working on s off on the plus but those guys would probably be the ones who do it, their stomping ground is Qualcomm however
I have access to HTC Authorized service in my City. These guys already have J Card but unfortunately the don't have detailed guideline how to deal with M9 +
They said that in another MTK HTC devices there is a option in the bootloader mode (Sim lock) and they are doing official S off in this menu, but there was no Sim lock Menu in M9+ bootloader.
If someone knows how to deal with this issue I will continue my attempts for S Off.

Nice! What's your intentions? Do you want to try to convert your phone to another region's full firmware? There's some risk in that, we don't exactly know if the hardware from China and the other regions are fully the same and compatible, like the radio unit. I guess they are, I didn't have any issues running the phone on Asia WWE firmware or European, but I didn't (and couldn't because of S-On on my device) try a full conversion with all the S-On protected partitions of the phone. I only could flash boot/recovery/data and system, but there's a lot more of different partitions related to the hardware functionality.
Practically with s-off you can overwrite the CID (carrierid) to supercid (1111111 or something like that ) of your phone and thus you can convert flash any other regions full RUU firmware zip from 'fastboot oem rebootRUU' mode. Then you can receive OTAs of that different regions.
Otherwise being s-off means nothing much more than that opportunity.
Also probably you could unlock the sim lock to a certain phone company if your sim is bound to a phone company, on an S-Offed device you can do that. But I'm not sure how that's done.

As far as i understand - you connect the jcard, reboot in bootloader, and enter that command?
Thanks!
I have one from UAE. I did everything to s-off this device but no luck until now. It did not work with jcard. I have version 1.61.401.6 installed. Now, I see some people had luck with m9+ from other regions. I mean is it region related or something? I even did unlock my bootloader, installed twrp and rooted my device just to try that sunshine's method. Unfortunately sunshine's method did not work either. Now my question is,, If Taiwanese or Chinese versions can be s-off with jcard, how can I install their software version? Why can't I s-off my m9+ ? I really appreciate if people shared their s-off experiences.
Sorry for the ignorrance, but from where can I get Jcard? I see there a lot of people in here have it.
Also can a Java Card or Jcard be emulated on a PC?
