My Motorola Defy with CM7.2 works fine when I'm in the UK. However, since landing in China my phone freezes within a few seconds of turning it on. I also had the same problem when I went to Portugal a few weeks ago (but I was using CM7.1 then).
Any ideas on how I can find a way of fully solving this would be much appreciated.
So far I've come up with a few temporary fixes, none of which are ideal:
1. Take my (T-Mobile UK) sim card out of the phone and put it in Airplane mode. Can still use the phone with wifi.
2. Put my (T-Mobile UK) sim card into an old Nokia (5310 XpressMusic) phone. Turn the Nokia phone on and let it register with one of the Chinese mobile networks. Then put the sim card back in my Motorola defy. Turn the defy on and it doesn't freeze.
3. Factory/data reset (I did this in Portugal when I was using CM7.1). Defy worked fine afterwards.

I have a Qtek 9100 running the latest ROM and radio, etc on the Cingular network. The other day I get no signal, and reboot do not fix the problem. I take the sim card, and put it in a different phone. The other phone gets a signal, but says I can make emergency calls only. After about an hour on the phone with a Cingular rep I agree to drive to the store and get a replacement card. The replacement card fixed the problem. 4 days later, I am back to the same problem. The cingular rep is now blaming the phone after they can't figure out whats wrong. He is telling me the phone is "Zapping" the sim card. I find this hard to believe, but has anyone had this problem before? Has anyone ever tried to do an RMA with Qtek? Any help would be great, as i'm ready to put this 9100 on ebay and be done with it, unless an RMA with Qtek is worth it.
Happened to me last week with my 9100 (still running the original ROM). Got a new SIM and it's been running fine since.
i've had my 9100 rom on my 8125 for acout 2 weeks now without any major problems. the only problem I have is that it switches back and forth from gprs to edge a lot, but it doesn't bother me.
have you tried to reflash back to the cingular rom? it couldn't hurt.
I actually am running the Cingular ROM. I already replaced the SIM card 4 days ago, and it worked for about 4 days until it broke again. It doesnt make much sense, because something has to be corrupting the SIM card. When I ran *#*#364#*#* GSM utility, it would give me no data at all. Obviously the SIM card is dead (But still reads contacts on the SIM), and reauthorizing it does nothing to restore it. I will get a replacement today and verify the SIM continues to work in a different handset before I put it back in the 9100. Also I plan to factory default, and upgrade to latest ROMS etc before I try it again just in case. If anyone has any other ideas, let me know. Thanks.

Aqueous, very much the same problem here. I got my Qtek9100 yesterday and I am connecting to Cingular. When I switch on the phone it takes forever to latch to network. The
Y.
Y..
Y... keeps happening for ever and ever. But once, it latches it stays on to it firmly. If I put the sim in my old phone Nokia3230, it just connects to cingular with a snap as soon as the phone is switched on. When I tap on the " Y " region it shows "searching...". I also tried doing a manual/automatic network detection in settings. During the time the "Y. Y.. Y..." keeps going, the manual detection of networks doesnt show a single network in the list. I dont know what could the problem be, since the sim just works perfect in old phone.
By the way, what does

Hi I own a Cingular 8125 (Wizard), yesterday I did a soft reset because the phone was too slow (it wasn't turned off for about 4 weeks without restarting). When it launched it ask for my phone pasword, then for my sim PIN and took them without problems but it launched without connecting to my provider signal. Everything on the phone is working fine (WiFi-Bluetooth-PC Sync, etc...) but it keeps searching for signal.
I tried 3 different sim cards and the result was the same, then I test my sim on a friends phone and it worked fine.
The only thing I did to the phone a few weeks ago was try to use a dual sim ghost that didn't worked (it show the dual sim menu and worked fine with line 1 but when I tried to switch to line 2 it happenned just the same that is happenning now with just my sim inside, it kept looking for signal)
I did a complete reset and nothing.. happened the same, then I upgrade it's ROM to the one cingular has on it's website (http://www.america.htc.com/support/8125/software-downloads.html) it was the same one installed but it did the upgrade process anyway and NOTHING!!!
Does anyone have an idea of what could be happenning and what can I do to fix it?? I don't want to have a PDA phone just as a PDA and not phone. THanks.
HD mini was working flawlessly until last week when the radio just dropped signal completely. Tried soft reset, no change. Checked with vodafone (UK) they assured me nothing wrong with line. Tried sim in my work HD2...works fine. Tried my work orange sim in my mini, it didn't work.
Tried hard reset, orange sim started working, but no luck connecting to vodafone.
Woke up this morning after using orange sim for almost a week, now that has stopped working as well. I've now tried 4 different networks just in case and none of them get signal.
i have rom version 1.10.161.1, HTC site wont let me download any updates and i've never changed a rom before.
Radio version is 0.63.05.18
Are there any known problems with this? Is there a remedy without sending the phone back to HTC who say it could take up to 30 days to fix the phone!!
2 days ago I've bought Vodafone DE prepaid. It worked really bad. I couldn't connect to the network and my HD2 started to stuck regularly. On my Nokia N82 it worked perfectly.
Yesterday I flew back to Ukraine, put my old SIM card, but nothing changed: my HD2 stucks and he couldn't connect to the network normally. I've renewed my ROM, performed a factory reset - no result.
I've noticed, that he stucks mostly when I try to use my network(try to access Interned). And it's impossible to use numbers like *100#. It writes something like "Unable to perform".
What should I do now?
I suggest getting another SIM card from your regular carrier. It sounds like your SIM is your problem.
Hi, I recently bought a new Yotaphone2 (YD206) taking advantatge of the Singles' day discounts, but I am having some trouble connecting to the mobile network.
Since I did not have a nanosim available from the beggining, I started by updating its ROM (I used the last Russian one, while keeping the Chinese radio) and then I rooted it. So far so good.
The thing is, after my microsim was cut into a nanosim (the guy at the mobile phone store did it, using one of these "staplers"), I inserted it in the tray but it is not recognized on the phone. On the screen you can read "No sim card - emergency calls only".
At first I thought it was the radio, and I even flashed it again. I also went back to the original chinese rom, with no success. I think it's not a radio problem, since I can get some statistics in the *#*#4636#*#* menu, but I am not a 100% certain. Of course, I've already tried rebooting, setting the airplane mode on and off, removing and inserting the sim again, etc. Apart from that, wifi, bluetooth and everything else work as expected.
The sim card works, because using a microsim adapter I can fit it in my Nexus 4 and it gets signal. There are three options here: either the radio is not properly configured/flashed, the phone is faulty or the sim has been wrongly cut.
Could you help me troubleshoot the problem?
Solved!
Solved! It was the sim card, it was not properly cut. I used some sandpaper so sand one edge that was a bit rough. I didn't even have to reboot, the phone asked for my pin inmediately. I'm using the last EU rom with the chinese radio.
Yay! Happy!
I have the same issue now and my yotaphone 2 was bought in China... I've tried the sim cards from two companies, both didn't work. I doubt I received a defective product.
