In other development section from other devices in xda, I can see roms based on google AOSP ICS code (not CM, AOKP, etc...)
I tried to port one of these rom to desire z (aospX from dHD section) without success
I think ICS aosp code is MUCH LIGHTER than CM9 code.
Can we compile a rom from aosp for desire z?
I think this would improve ICS speed but I can't do it
Edit:
I'm trying to make a rom based on google AOSP 4, ICS.
I don't want to use ICS based on CM9 source code, because it is heavy.
Demonstration is virtuous quattro rom, based on google AOSP, lighter than andromadus beta 5 in terms of multitasking and ram usage.
I want to base this rom on virtuous quattro, that is a project on hold unfortunately.
Bug of virtuous quattro:
- Old camera driver, with glitch and no working video recording.
- More graphic glitches than andromadus beta 4/5.
Included features:
- torch apk from CM
- T9 dialer
- Notification settings similar to AOKP
- Pure and lighter ICS with 150 - 200 mb of ram free and no memory leak issue..
You could probably use something like the EliteKernel (or other ICS kernel) with the AOSP source if you're having problems with it actually working (I imagine the kernel would be where you're having the problems since there's no official ICS release for the G2/DZ)
I think the only restriction with EliteKernel is that it would only work with a CM9/AOKP/Adromudus rom.
Yes, most likely this is kernel problem, I tried porting AOSP GB 2.3.7 but without succes, personally I'm not experienced enough I think. I've gathered many things, but gave up, because many files were missing in comparison to CM7, I think on starting from scratch again, but I'll probably leave because bought SGS II.
Good luck anyway .
Today I remember that Virtuous QUATTRO is AOSP BASED!!
This old ICS rom, is the best ICS rom for desire Z in ram management and performance :good:
I'm running it now, I get 200mb free all the time, no lag on opening contacts/phone and other apps because the ram management is EXCELLENT compared to CM9 based rom!!!
The problems:
- Graphic glitch, in this rom there are a lot of glitch for now
- Camera don't works well as cm9 rom
I try to push libcamera.so libcameraservice.so and other similar, but nothing.
I try to use EliteMod ICS kernel, it works well but camera issue is here..
I try to push andromadus camera (based on cm9) -> broken camera..
Please help me! I want to port working camera driver of andromadus to virtuous quattro, but I don't know how!
This would be the best ICS rom for desire Z!!!
PS: @Mesaj, I'm sad to know that you will leave desire z sometimes I think to buy another device like galaxy nexus, galaxy s3 or one X.. but after that I think that without qwerty I can live (.. ok I don't have money I admit )
I thought the point of AOSP is that it is built from scratch and not ported?

What Camera Issue exactly though? I'm using the Rom+Kernel and the camera and camcorder is fine, aside from not being able to use the Smiley Effect or Time Lapse effect.
And no you can't just 'port' a driver from one or the other especially between different kernels and apps. You won't likely see a fix for it until either the G2/DZ or DesireHD (based on the same camera hardware I assume) gets ICS officially. Until then anything related to the camera hardware is mainly going to be reverse engineered or 'half-way' working.

I'm running on virtuous quattro, that doesn't have updated camera driver..
The issue are: no working video recording, graphic glitches on photo.
my target: use andromadus audacity beta 5 camera driver in virtuous quattro for fixing these issue.
For do this I tried as I say, to push some files about camera from audacity to virtuous quattro, but the issue is the same.
So I tried to push eliteKernel, all works well, but same issue in the camera.
So I tried to push camera.apk from audacity, and now I can't start camera..
I don't know how to use in virtuous quattro the "hacked working driver" that audacity beta5 is using.
The kernel is compatible, but the camera don't works with audacity kernel..

The point of AOSP is that is AOSP, by google, high optimized, not modified by cm team.
It's lighter than CM.
You can see it so clearly on GB: aosp rom free ram is 200 - 260mb after closing all apps, CM7.2 free ram is 170 - 190 max!!!
This is real also in GB roms, but less clearly (not so much different in ram usage, but aosp is lighter).

Isn't virtuous quattro a AOSP rom and not CM/Andromedus/AOKP? EliteKernel only works with one of those three and AOSP is not the same thing as AOKP.
Also I've no clue if simply the Kernel will fix the camera with whatever Rom provided camera app, but I know that using EliteMod (the Rom and Kernel itself) I've had no problems outside of special effects (smiley, time lapse).

Virtuous Quattro is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) based rom that has been built from source with custom modifications and tweaks.
The entire ROM is brand new, taking no application or framework components from any prior releases.
Quattro is the result of a collaborative, team effort by the following developers:
Flemmard, Diamondback, chrisch1974, rmk, mdj, seo, eViL D:, cypis and cjward.

I think it's aosp with some modification from virtuous team.
Not pure aosp unfortunately, but modification are limitated and well designed.
EliteKernel works with this rom.. I don't know why.
Are you sure that CM9 kernel is not compatible with AOSP kernel?
I know cm7 kernel is not compatible with android 2.3 kernel, but I don't know if the same can be said about CM9 and AOSP ICS.
I don't have 32gb of ram in my PC to compile ICS AOSP Would love to do that, but I can't..

Come on... You could have at least googled it.
That aside, I think that once we get a working AOSP build, then a MIUI build should be possible. Up to now, RIL has not been working on AOSP builds.
That would be awsome, but in english

So what u gonna do about the battery drain? I've heard that miui drain battery much faster than the stock rom.
None of it matters until we get kernel source for 2.2 we won't get anything near working. And FROYO isn't even out for blade yet.
Eph.
Couldn't we just take the launcher, dialer, browser, music player, fonts and lockscreen from the MIUI rom and add them to a standard rom?

Why? Froyo and Gingerbread work fine with older kernels. As far as I know there are no kernel customisations needed for MIUI so it should be possible to run it without building a kernel from source, but the 2G VM split in the ZTE roms will cause problems.
I did try to boot MIUI once, it didn't work, but I didn't try very hard. It should be possible.
If source was available it would be a lot easier. The messed up RIL setup on the blade will probably make it very hard to get RIL working without source.
amazing, don't we have a 2.2 kernel from the chineese which people at Modaco are already using?
Great News everyone. It is being worked on

Hi friends.
First, I want to praise this forum ... that is fantastic!
My question is about the currently ROMs for my milestone 2...
I want to flash my ML2 with another ROM, to get a better experience with the battery life...
What ROM is the better choice?
- Argen2Stone 2.7
- CM7
- TIM Retail 2.3.6
- MIUI 2
- Others.... ?
Thanks again guys!
I test all these roms, personally I prefer CM7 of Tezet + the update of Endless7
Lose the video recording at 720p, but it works great.!!
It depend on your version of MS2. I have problems with gps in cyanogen's rom, so i'am using ms2ginger 2.1. It's perfect, everything's working, but it have shorter battery life. My friend have older revision of MS2, he had serious problems with keyboard and multitouch, but Endless7 cm7 runs perfectly on his phone.

YES!
+1 for that rom .
It's pity, there's no Endless7's update for latest Tezet's CM7
Guys, I tried flash my phone with CM7 times ago....
I first flash the SO with "update-cm-7.1.0-DROID2WE-signed.zip"
After this I apply "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip"
All using Bootmenu.
But, the phone doesn't boot... the screen stay black and nothing happends....
After this, I recovery to 2.2 TIM RETAIL...
Can you post a link with a better tutorial for me?
Thanks!

May sound stupid, but allthough the milestone 2 and droid to appear to be the same phone, they are not the same phone.
Main difference is one is cdma (no sim - droid 2) and other is gsm (has a simcard - milestone2)
No method will ever get a droid 2 rom working on your milestone 2.
EDIT:
(moved to start of rant) If you have upgraded to the official gingerbread you can only use CM9, CM7(endless7), argen2stone. Just the ones with the GB kernel.
But as for other roms all roms, the choices are:
CM9: Not finished but quite stable now and a great look into ICS certainly work having a try of it. Uses GB kernel so no multitouch bug.
CM7 (tezet version): Stable, good, fast, has multitouch bug due to froyo kernel
CM7 (endless7 version/defy port): Not much difference from tezet version, but some added bells and whistles. Also uses the CH gingerbread kernel, so no multitouch bug and better touch response. I'd recommend this version personally, but it's all a matter of opinion. Also both versions show all market apps regardless of compatibility - can be handy if you wanna take advantage of a great sale knowing you can just use it when it is patched for your device or you upgrade. Or if you can tweak some stuff enough to trick it into working.
MIUI: Simply wonderful. Most stable one i have used. At first i hated the iphone likeness of it - but you can install a custom launcher if you wish. I got used to it though and ended up loving it once I tuned it to how i liked it - 1 screen with several folders and a clock widget the themes are great. It also uses the froyo kernel, so unfortunately has the multitouch bug. So i had to leave it
Argen2Stone: Pretty close to stock so if you liked the stock firmware but not it's slowness you will probably like this. Simply wasn't for me but for the time i used it, it was quite stable. Uses the CH gingerbread kernel though, so no multi touch bug here too . OH and is one of the few that has 720p video recording working I think.
I can't really remember ms2ginger and i have never tried blurless, so I won't comment on them.
Moral of the story, you can count the amount of roms we have available on you hand so why not get them all, and try them 1 day at a time?
They are all great roms and far better than stock was, so you can't really go wrong. No one here can possibly tell you what you like so you will just have to test them yourself soon enough and find out

+1 me too great works of tezet and endless7
ive used Argen2Stone 2.7 ..its a really good rom.
now im using CM9 by tezet.
My vote goes for tezet's CM7, because I like more that clean CM7 than endless' mod.
i think CM7 of Tezet is the best.
I'm voting for MIUI - but I understand if someone don't like it due to it's quite bad touch responsiveness.
I want to shar my experience with you. I used all the rom you listed except "tim retail 2.3.6".
I'm now using A2S and UK 2.3.4 kernel. It has the perfect experience whatever daily use or game playing. But it has the shorter battery life(the same as cm7 or may be a little longer).
I often got reboot when i using cm7 especially when i entering games.
MIUI has the different style from other android roms. It also based on cm kernel, if you are boring with the original android UI ,you may try this rom. But this rom has the shortest battery life even less than CM7, and has the slow reflex when you have incall.
Sorry for my terrible English.

CM7 for me.. even if it doesn't have 720p recording it is battery friendly.. i like argen2stone but the only thing i dont like on this rom is blur UI.. they should have remove the UI because it eats too much ram >.<
Hello guys whats the best ics u have used so far on your sgs2 i9100???
Gingerbread rom kernel combo also appreciated!!
GB Roms I like RevoHD 6 + Siyah kernel.
For ICS, I've been using The latest Foxhound + Stock kernel, only cause CM9 doesn't have working video yet, if video isn't a priority i'd go with CM9 for sure.
thebyani rom v3.2
All leaked ICS Roms based not worked to me for everyday use, I had bootloops, hans, freezes there and here... A little annoying. I would suggest CheckROM v6 based en XWLA4, its the best rom i've used!
Without any hesitation, I'd say Thebyani v3.2
It works like a charm, no lag/FC at all and great battery life ! All the bugs I met with other roms are fixed in this one. Give it a try !
I can't really say anything about ICS roms as the ones that I did test were still very buggy and not stable at all
But I have had my share of GB roms.
Started with Hydroxigen but couldn't get my keyboard to appear (I was a flashing n00b back then )
So I went to GingerMod v0.8, this rom was REALLY good for me. It was very fast, stable and in combination with Speedmod kernel a real battery-saver
Only thing I didn't like was that the Gingermod updates didn't work for me. I could download them and it would reboot into recovery and install them but I never noticed any difference.
Then I went to Checkrom RevoHD V6 together with Redpill and the Magic UV config (adapted to my own device obviously ) and I am still using this to this day. The Kitchen app works like a charm and I even have my Azerty samsung keyboard I really hated the AOSP gingerbread keyboard! No .com button?! Special characters and smileys on different locations? Yurg!
So my current and favourite Rom/kernel combo is: Checkrom RevoHD v6 + Redpill kernel
If you want the best GB stock for battery life and not cluttered up with all kinds of useless mods, then go with VillainRom 3.0 and siyah kernel.
If FM radio and video recording aren't important then CM9 rocks. All these people who complain of reboots fc's etc. haven't flashed it correctly
Best bet is to nandroid and then try them all, feed that addiction baby...................
I'm using official ICS beta (rooted) XXLPB as my daily driver since it was released. It works great, not bugs/hangs or any other crap.
Using Phone, Mobile Data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and Camera on a daily basis with no issues at all.

I use AndyX ROM 6.0 (based on XXLPH). It works perfectly, meaning no forcecloses and features like wifi, 2G/3G, camera, video etc. are all working.
Plus it has some nice visual additions, such as blue icons in notification bar and a nice shutter-like effect when the screen turns off.
I can only recommend it

Hi,
I've picked up a motorola defy, and am wondering what is the most recent e.g ICS, rom that is stable and everything works?
So far i've rooted the phone and that's about it.
It's a 2.51 UK phone.
I'm familiar with the HTC Desire S roms, but haven't a clue when it comes to the Defy.
I've searched through the dev forum, but can't quite get an indication of what's what.
Sorry for the noob question.
Thanks for any replies.
Did you maybe already found out if it has green (SOC) lens or red (bayer) lens camera module? SOC only works on Froyo kernels, while bayer works on both Froyo and Gingerbread kernels. (Which is not of great importance, cause almost all ROM's are available for both kernels)
Anyways... What do you like? Here are some of my recommendations...
For MIUI v2 - Pikachu MIUI (WIUI comes 2nd, as Pikachu had fewer bugs for me and was overall snappier)
For MIUI v4 - WIUI v4
For CM7(.2) - maniac103's builds or FuZZ's KANG's - almost the same, but details do make them different
For CM9 - Epsylon3 made the latest CM9 builds with the final fixes and touches
For AOKP ICS - There's a Milestone 6 coming up soon, built by Kayant (he's building from source, port's can't compare with that)
For JellyBean - I must say I would recommend ParanoidAndroid, which is based on CMX, but somehow manages to be snappier and much better at RAM management. AOKP JP alpha is snappy, too, when compared to CMX. Although the CMX I'm talking about is the one build by Quarx, but people do say tha Epsylon's builts are better performance-wise.
Thanks.
From the looks of my lens it's bayer.
Are any of those roms a default/minimal ice cream sandwich? That's all i'm after really, as I guess jelly bean will have loads of stuff not working correctly yet.
Actually CM10 is working as good as CM9, maybe better. But I must say, I switched to CM10 since the 2nd nightly, and never went back to CM9, so maybe there was an improvement since that in CM9 nightlys...
But you should try them all and choose which you like

When you say minimal, I'm assuming you mean feature-wise, not GUI-wise, so I guess the best choice for you would be to wait up for AOSP Jelly Bean which Kayant is trying to build from source here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824551
If you don't want Jelly Bean, but ICS, then I think this is the way to go - CM9 Moto Ice Gun - http://www.custom-android.de/portfolio/cm9-motoicegun-edition/ (you can find it in the defy development forum, too). Most of the guys who tested it claim that it's the fastest ICS ROM for the Defy.

i still think , that CM9 is the most stable rom for defy
CM9 is fatser then GB , ICS if definitely better then GB in all terms
so a recent stable rom - CM9 .
but in near future , if TI releases proper SGX drivers for our devices .. then , m sure CM10 will be the most stable rom for defy .
IMHO I would choose CM10
What Kayant is doing isn't pure AOSP. It has some fixes!
I was talking with Quarx recently and he said that CM10 is very similar to pure AOSP..so trust me...go CM10

What stable ROM do you guys recommend for Defy green lens? I recently installed the most stable CM7 and I like but there are some thing I don't quite like, like the incompatibility with Titanium backup, the vibration issue for notifications, and the battery life didn't improve significantly. So, I am looking for the one but without having to flash 7-8 roms, that where you guys coming in, which rom out there is the best and stable for defy green lens?
And if you could include a download link would be great, because I encountered so many sites with links and versions and rom and kernels, and this and that, that is confusing for a newbie like me.

Diego, Thanx for all the help!
Hi, I've been looking through the forums and have been rather overwhelmed by the number of roms available at this point.
Things have come a very long way since I first rooted the phone months ago, and I haven't kept up to date with development recently.
I would love to test out multiple different roms on the L3 to find the best, but it's actually my girlfriends phone and she hates me "messing" with the phone too much, and as you must know, rom shootouts can take hours of flashing and testing. (I used to spend a lot of time doing this on my old motorola defy)
This is obviously a matter of opinion, but could I get any guidance on what would be the most STABLE and LAG FREE rom for this device?
Features are not an issue, this is just down to stability. The current setup on this device is an SDmerge stock based rom (cannot remember which as it's been a while) and there has been a lot of hangs and reboots. (I mean a LOT, rebooting about 3 or more times a day)
These are two roms that I've been looking at as standing out from the crowd, so comparisons from people who've used both would be awesome.
Any better suggestions are also obviously welcome:
Latte ~ lightweight + LG UI 3.2
MiniCM9 UNOFFICIAL for L3 E400
Hopefully, if enough good material is posted in the thread, I will create a rundown of fast, stable roms for this device with links.
Thanks to all the devs for their work on this device, with particular mention to Gellmar for his work on SDmerge and custom kernel. You, sir are a genius!
MiniCM9.
Or if you want 2.3.6, plain stock version + SDmerge: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250759

Latte v2 for me
MiniCM9 for me.
Or Jelly cast v6 RII.
gellmar created 2 specified recovery.img for each cm9 sdmerge and stock sdmerge. but some roms contain this recoverys and some others is not. so normal cwm can fully working with sdmerge rom? and what thing gellmar changed in his recovery/ any can answer me. thanks
So it seems that Mini CM9 is a good one.
We installed Latte, but after about a day it started to noticeably hang and lag, with more than one reboot.
It was a clean install (wipe of user data, cache, davlik etc.) so the install wasn't the issue.
Mini CM9 worked well, but a few apps struggled to access the camera correctly. Namely: Snapchat which returns a green screen when trying to take a photo.
Currently running this: Cyanoid Rom
Which seems to work well, but as it is based on CM9 it carries the same issue regarding Snapchat and some other apps.
Is anyone aware of a fix for this camera issue?
Aside from that, I'd recommend the rom linked above, as much as MiniCM9. Seems stable, and feature rich.

Nope, all CM9 ROMs are affected. Green screen is also in Google Goggles. And Skype video-calling doesn't work, but works on 2.3.6 ROMs.

Is this to do with the kernels interaction with the camera?
Or could it maybe be fixed by replacing camera app, or editing build.prop?
Would be great if someone could shine some light
Most Stable with a great SDmerge support is Cyanoid, because we realize 2 different versions, one for NOn-sdmerge devices and one edited for Sdmerge devices, with some improvements, and NOT just a step 4 copy/paste into zip, the differences flashing a rom and then step 4 or flashing a Sdmerge designed rom is the stability of it and its speed, you can choose the rom u want, because each one have its different features
In my opinion every stock 2.3.6 Rom is stable ...in ics time most stable I used is mini cm9 ....but I use stock ROM cuz camera quality is better any one know how improve cm9 camera????

Camera 360 takes much better images than the stock CM9 camera.
And I'm experiencing so much slowdown, and a tonne of reboots on stock,
Is this a common issue? Any fix to recommend?
In my opinion I'll opt out for Cyanoid. It's the far most the perfect one with awesome features. So, you could just give it a shot. I've using it for a couple of months now. And other one of the best ROM is RayogenMod. It's also pretty good. I've tried out both of them..
