Hi. Does the Nexus 7 have a notification LED on the front?
I haven't noticed any LED notification.

Yeah but that always freaks me out, thinking its going to burn my screen out. I know it probably won't, but I freak out.
Also why would one need an LED light on a tablet?

Why wouldn't you want useful things?
Out of curiosity, which tablets do have notification LEDs? I've tried searching but it's come up vague.
i've yet to see any tablet with an LED.
It's not needed as much on a tablet as on the phone with missed calls and texts.
NoLED should suffice just fine. And NoLED combats burn-in by having an option to move the notification around so it's never using the same pixel for long.
ive had noled on all s1 and s2 and s3 and i have never had any problems with it and now they have themes!!

I mean I wouldn't mind an LED light at all, but I see more of a use for it on a phone (unread text, missed call) than a tablet. I always have new emails so I don't know what it would really notify me of.

I actually was thinking that, as I will be using google voice to text every now and then. Nobody I know uses whatsapp :/ google voice on iPhone is pretty slow so I'm looking forward to see how it does on the Nexus!

NoLED is really only for OLED screens, on an IPS it will run your battery bone dry in double time
Notification lights for things like Gmail, Facebook, Twitter
My HP Touchpad has an LED...
Idea, is it not possible to make a costum ROM with a function, "use screen as notification LED"?
I do not mind that there is no LED. I have a U20I thats runs so slow, that any replacement for android gaming is good for me .
My current tablet has capacitive keys and I use backlight notifications, so not having BLN will take a little getting used to.

NoLED has an option to not turn the screen on when the proximity sensor is "close", so you can just keep the tablet face down when it's not on the charger.

You don't need a custom ROM. NoLED will do what you want.

From my reading it seems Windows Phone 7 doesn't have any support for LED notifications. This adds to the already huge population of iPhone users that are used to not having it either. It really surprises me that these platforms choose to leave this feature out, because to me it's invaluable. I use it throughout the day to see if I need to turn my phone on after returning to my desk (at home or work), and not having it requires manual checks to see if I've missed anything. Why should I have to bother with that? So I'm curious if other Android users find it just as valuable, and if you're just as dumbfounded why these other platforms don't have it.
I love it, but hate how it always stays lit when charging on my nightstand.
Can't live without it for notifications. Wish it was multi colored like the Droid as well.

+1 here the wimax leds are pretty cool. Also we get the short end of the stick compared to the blackberry leds. They have stock 7 color leds.

I completely agree. The LEDs on Blackberrys are amazing. I cannot fathom why these other manufacturers don't put more effort into LED notifications.
Led notifications are great, I liked the wimax notifier but it force closed a lot on me so I uninstalled it.

Yeah, nothing's is as good as a BlackBerry but what the EVO has isn't bad, definitely better than nothing. It's just with two major consumer-oriented platforms leaving it out (inexplicably), I hope Android manufacturers don't eventually do away with it.
This is a feature I have always liked on all of my phones.
Is there a led that a dev can eventually get to work as a notification led? Or is there simply no led built into the phone that will work. This is a very crappy issue for us NS owners that came from the N1, I miss my trackball lighting up from across the room and knowing wether or not it was a txt or an email etc..
Will the NS ever have this? Or is it simply not going to happen?

A) Wrong section.
B) Answered in the stickied FAQ in the right section:

Q: There's no LED Indicator? What are those two circles next to the speaker?
Correct, like all Samsung devices(minus the Epic 4G on Sprint) thus far, there is no LED indicator light. There are apps, such as NoLED, on the marketplace which work great on the Nexus S and provide more or less the same functionality. Those two circles are the Proximity Sensor and Ambient Light sensor.

Not really the wrong forum if it were something that could be developed. It would have been a request for something to be developed. Regardless, I guess we are just stuck without an led light. NO LED blows compared to the trackball on the N1

Splitting hairs there, bro.
And yes, I'm sure the.. er.. I'm blanking on the name of the app that will use the buttons as notifications will come around once a custom kernel has been developed to support it.
not sure why we need ANOTHER thread about the LED (or lack of). do a SEARCH!
Closed, as this is answered in the FAQ.
Ok, so it has been a year since Vibrant been available. Great phone but it has its flaws, nothing is perfect in this world.
GPS - fixed
ROM - fixed
Kernel - fixed
Sound - fixed
Camera LED - NOT available
I'm surprise no one has come up with a resolution for this.
Vibrant on Project-V + Bali-X 1.1
That would just be way more trouble than it's worth.
It's not the fact that the camera doesn't have a LED that bothers me. It's the lack of LED in general that most phones use for text messages, missed calls, voice mail etc. Oh well. There are some good apps to work around that. Love this phone.
I always confuse the two.. but doesnt the vibrant NOT have a camera flash?
While the galaxyS has the camera flash?
Yeah.... BLN works great
Agreed. I just wish there was a way to turn it off for email and only have it for missed calls and sms
Vibration Notifier rules life pretty hard. Vibrates every X amount of minutes to let me know I have a notification...and its fully customizable.

The led also flashes every few seconds. The Moto display does not do any such thing and though people say you can wave your hand over the phone to turn it on, that's still more interaction to see if there's anything and I tried that feature on my Moto g and it never worked.

It certainly is not the same. But the days of led notifications are coming to an end. And you don't have to wave your hand. You can also just pick up your phone and it automatically shows your notifications in dark mode.

So what if I'm typing and working and want to know if I have a message. How do I check visually without picking up the phone? With the notification light it blinks constantly. The active display can't do that and as a result is a drop in functionality for me. It's nice that the phone turns the active display on when I pick up the phone, but that doesn't replace a notification light, if anything it would work best in unison with a notification light.

Very true. But most people didn't use led notifications because it didn't tell you much (unless you download an app to configure them with different colors). This is what Moto Display and the ambient display were created for. People used to led notifications don't like it but I venture to say more people are making use of the new method.

Isn't the new method only on Moto phones though? What percent of the market does Moto even have? As for notification colors, every app I know has its own colors for notifications so it's always easy to tell what I have a notification for, unless I have multiple notifications.

I am not a big fan of the notification screen i dont think Moto G has a AMOLED display hence if it is not the case the notification will drain the battery faster how i am not an expert on how the notification works so i may be wrong
LED was cool but no many used it anyways it was not a feature but an accessory without which you can live with
How did this turn into a philosophical debate over the merits of a notification led?

No gyroscope - so no driving mode or photosphere or google cardboard or spotlight stories. No LED notifications. No stereo speakers.
There is a hidden LED;

Driving mode is no gyroscope dependent. It was there on the first gen Moto G (which too, leaks a gyroscope.)
Whoa...I was considering moving from Samsung to Moto...but if no LED, it's a no go for me. I use Lightflow, and the different colors, and flash/no flash, is too handy to lose. Don't have to pick up the phone; don't have to be close to it even, to know what type of message may be waiting.

Enjoy it while you can. Ambient notifications are going to kill the need for led notifications. While it is not was powerful as led notifications, I would imagine we will see a huge drop in LEDs in Android phones in the next year or so.
I have tried both alternatives to the lack of one on the 6T. Nice apps ,but just not working out for me .. considering all the posts on the subject, does OP have any plans for a fix/update, @funkwizard? Thanks in advance
Have moved over to the OnePlus community.. Moderator, would you close this please? Thanks in advance

I'll be honest, I don't miss the LED notification. It really frees me to not be a slave to the phone. I use Mighty Text on the phone and at least while I'm home, notifications will show up on my laptop. The last few days I've been using their Chrome plugins which adds more notifications to the desktop, but I'm about ready to uninstall that because it can be really annoying.
I miss the LED terribly but haven't had time to look at the software alternatives. I often need to have the phone completely silent/no vibration, and not being able to see what's going on via varicolored strobing LED is a miss. Love the phone otherwise, but I really gotta sort out a solution using ambient display or some such, without killing the battery.
