[Tribute]XDA Developers | Rom Helper - Galaxy S II General

First of all, I'd like to thank all the developers of the XDA community and especially all people who made Rom-modding even possible.

User contribution?:
I am certain that every single Rom that was once out here on XDA had it's on journey and issues to face. Most users of XDA aren't willing to take this journey but they just jump across Rom's as they'd switch there own clothes, just because they saw something better, that 'might' make them look better and even-tough knowing that at some point you can't blame them, 'cause you or me were/are probably the same, I just want to share a thought with you guys.
Appreciation
Do we really appreciate the person behind the Rom? I am sure a certain amount if they ever read this, would just say! YES!, but YOU DON'T. You wouldn't even care or be bothered if the developer of your Rom would pass away or if he or she would have some personal issues affecting the development. THE ONLY THING YOU CARE ABOUT IS YOURSELF
Even I can't deny that, I was an OTA addict like hell, I switched roms like a nut, I flashed modems like a boss and I didn't care about the Rom specifications and I just flashed one Rom after the other, AND I AM NOT SAYING THIS IS WRONG.
I only recommend we should think about, HOW we could return the favor. We should do more then clicking a thanks buttons, who cares about it's thanks rating anyway! We should help them, because they are the ones who can make things possible and we?. We are just the ones that can click a thanks button, but don't give a single damn about any contribution!
[Q] Did you ever donate?
[Q] Did you ever clicked the thanks button, however the advise given didn't solve your problem?
[Q] Did you ever report bugs or were you just to lazy and swithed roms?
[*]How big is your "I" in the XDA Community
Don't be to lazy!, Even YOU can make a difference!

Take advantage of your ETA update addiction!
If you like to Flash a Rom, try-out mods or just experiment with your phone, put your addiction as yourself to use to a ROM developer, by helping him or her out, to..

Review it

If you are a developer, tell us how your Rom will be different and tell us what you need! We've been calling out to you guys for way too long, it's time to return the favor!

If you have any suggestions or ideas how we could improve this, be my guest, I am going to use my second topic probably as a list, where I'll list all the helpers who are available and who are currently working with developers on some projects
I do hope, that main developers or developers who just started creating there Rom, will use this topic to their own benefit, but we'll see

[Project] MIUI Style Settings.apk

why the **** doesn't my phone look like this now?? Come on Google....
This is awesome, good luck to whoever takes it on
Well if you have experience in porting, then you guys should definitely join our team. Still working on the name though.

Porting is a huge undertaking. Slowly remaking it on TouchWiz would be easier. We would do this one step at a time and release updates. But we definitely need help! Anyone with knowledge willing to help is welcome!
Good luck on the project, I am sure there will be people that love the idea, just looks too much like an iphone for me.
Anything graphic design related, I'm in.
Anyone know XML editing to hopefully get this or a similar look in stock settings??
Well, I guess that's one way to make iWiz even more of an iPhone KIRF.

Ok I am in but in ONE condition, I can do XML editing but I am not spending time on what they have edited and how. If the MIUI team give their sources on what they have edited to you then im definatley in.
MIUI is fully opensource. I think the biggest roadblock is that the UI was created through java rather than xml.
Personally, I'm not BAD with XML, but honestly, it might not be really helpful.
I'm not known, I'm sure, in the Captivate forums. But I am jellette/Heathen of the Einherjar Dev Team over in the Vibrant forums. I and other members of EDT would be interested in taking part in this project.
I can't wait to see where this goes

That'd be really difficult to find out, their UI is radically different. I have been searching XML files for a while and found nothing really, sorry!

A toast to toastcfh

I wanted to take a moment to make a toast to toastcfh. toastcfh is often more of a behind-the-scenes guy, and he seems to prefer it that way. Unfortunately that means he often doesn't get much recognition in this community. Most of us probably don't realize just how much he does for our EVOs and without him, our EVOs wouldn't be nearly as good as they are.
Most early EVO users were able to achieve full root and NAND unlock thanks to toastcfh, even if you didn't know you were using toastcfh's methods. Almost all of the 1, 2, or 3 step processes that we used (e.g. one click root methods) included automated versions of toastcfh's part 2 and let's not forget part 1.
toastcfh is also responsible for most of the kernel work that we see for the EVO. Many Sense users are familiar with netarchy-toastmod. The "toastmod" part is due to our one and only toastcfh.
Anyone running CyanogenMod is using a kernel that toastcfh is largely responsible for maintaining. toastcfh is also responsible for the most of the kernel work that has allowed WiMAX and he laid the groundwork for hardware accelerated HDMI development to take place in CM. No matter which kernel you're using in CM7, you're using some of toastcfh's work.
toastcfh has also been at least partly responsible for the recent rooting and NAND unlocking that's been taking place for the EVO's little brother, the HTC EVO Shift.
In addition to all of this development work that toastcfh does, he also finds time to be moderator of our EVO forums here on XDA (a thankless job to be sure). I'm sure that there are at least a hundred other things that toastcfh has done for us that I'm not aware of. If you know of something that I've missed or toastcfh has helped you out personally, please share your experience.
So please, take a moment with me to raise a glass and post your thanks to our humble toastcfh! If you feel so inclined, please consider a small donation. He'll never ask you for one.
THANK YOU TOASTCFH!!!

Much respect for you toast, for all the things you did for xda.
toastcfh released the godmode kernel for the HTC EVO, weeks before the HTC EVO was released to the public for sale.
his kernel was the first open source code version which worked on the EVO and was even released before HTC released their official kernel source code!
many custom kernels for the EVO are based of off toastcfh's source code. he has since moved to mainly github releases and is the main kernel maintainer for the cm7 evo kernel. in addition to all his many other endeavours.
he does great work. very reliable and of high quality. it is the only code i trust to put on my phone as he has always been completely open and helpful.
thank you toast. my htc evo experience wouldn't have been as great without you.
Most people who see this thread have or are using all of the above. Donating now! Thanks Toast!

Even if I think this kind of posts are not allowed I like to answer to your question.
Take a look at Dutty´s LEGACY Ship ROM. It is smooth, stable and fast with less battery draining. As it follows the stock ROM philosophy it includes only the basic applications without a great variety of ringtones etc or cosmetic customizations. So the amount of used Storage is less compared to other ROMs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=610634
You should also have a look on Artemis ROM.
After installation you will have about 160MB free memory.
...and without taking anything away from any of the 'chefs'; NRGZ28 offers a nice variety of ROMs, from the simple & sparse to the densely customized. Essentially, a number of choices with something for (almost) everyone. All on this site, but very clearly presented here... http://www.energyroms.com/www/
These are the largest memories ever, but they don't have an FM Radio, which you could extract from any ROM by "Total Commander"
6.5.5 http://www.multiupload.com/01QLE9DH1Z Lower Start
6.5 http://www.multiupload.com/9LH03QQYAS Upper Start very good one
LOL
Here you can easily see why these kind of threads are forbitten. Every Answer is different.
What is the real answer to your question? Take a look at the threads of the offered ROMs. Each of it is good. Chose some of them and test them by flashing them. You will find your ROM like each of us who answered might have found his favorite ROM.
Please, help me. Which of the forum rules forbids such posts/threads?
The part about flaming? I don't think so.
There was a clear question: which available ROM provides most storage capabilities?

Hi Uli,
no, it´s not the rule about flaming. But I must admit that I don´t know the exact origin of that rule. But I can report about many threads asking which ROM is the best, the fastets, the one which is most stable and so on.
Every thread of this kind resulted in the same: every supporter announced his favorite ROM as the best. The longer the thread was open the more these poster flamed each other. That was the reason why all of these threads I know were closed by a mod with the comment to make his own picture of the provided ROMs.
As you can see in this short thread there are several different answers because everyone has different priorities. So the information inside these threads is close to zero.
Did you see the right answer of the authors question in this ROM? Maybe not ;-)
Have a nice evening
Cheers

@Matthes,
With all due respect, and not to take issue (but just a few comments)... I understand the spirit and sensibility of your POV, and I'm in general agreement with it (not that, That means anything), but I must point out a few subtleties. Like most/all here, my personal choice of custom ROM was arrived at through trial and testing. That's the best way as (obviously) there are no absolute 'bests'... one size does not fit all.
My answer above, wasn't necessarily my favorite. I'm not a cheering section. The OP asked for a specific similarity to a certain ROM to be used as a replacement. I opined a certain chef had multiple offerings from which to chose, and among them, felt the OP might find his answer. --Without taking anything away from any other Chef. Everything I've tried from multiple sources, has been pretty much excellent. Different but all well-done nonetheless. There's a difference between a cut finger and a cut throat and no cut at all. There were no favorites implied in my answer.
Rob
@RobE & @Matthes42
I didnt know it was against the rules to post this sort of question otherwise I wouldnt have posted it. I am genuinely looking for a ROM upgrade its been months and im itching to flash my HD2
As you stated it down to personal preferences and I'm looking for something specific so I just needed someone to point me in the right direction.
As I said all suggestion are welcomed. so far flashed two and it 2-0. so im going to try other suggestion,
If I've upset anyone with this thread, my apologies, it was not my intention
There are no best rom, what's be best for your cannot be best for me and viceversa.
That is why we don't allow these kind of threads, becasue they become redundant.
On that note, thread closed.

Trolls and the ungrateful

One thing I have enjoyed here in this forum is it is much friendlier and less flaming than the evolution 3d forum I came from, and still is so far.
I have read a few things that disappointed me greatly I would like to mention .
Guys, think before you bash a persons work. Whether it's a theme, ROM, or some mod these people put in hard work and time for free and our benefit! It may not be perfect or what you personally like but that's not the point. If I was doing things for friends I've never met or a forum I would stop after some of the crap I've read.
Guys, please keep this place supportive and friendly. We were all noobs once and didn't know much except how to turn on the phone.
Anyway, respect each other and the work posted here. Bashing doesn't promote anything and doesn't encourage anyone to keep going .
And it's FREE!
Ok, group hug . J/k

It has become worse over the years. Sadly.
Still it's a small group who messes it up for the rest.
I have however, also seen someone who thinks he's a "developer", say snobby stuff to noobs. Like he was better then them.
This is much worse imho.

I agree. It goes both ways and there will always be the ones who's sole purpose is to troll and flame. I just can't imagine knocking someones hard work when they are giving it away. And I will never understand flaming a noob for asking a question. We were all there once. Hopefully this forum will stay above the fray .

I salute all the devs in this forum knowing well that our GNote coupled with their fantastic effort and talent will become an even better device once the official ICS starts rolling out.

We need Cyanogenmod or Devs to make a unofficial port

Honor 7 is a very good phone never been so surprised over a phone in this price range has so good quality and functionality have to add it has the best fingerprint sensor out there and looks great. Enough about that.
Huawei have released the kernel that stopped devs to start developing not so long ago. So there is nothing in the way anymore. Or is it anything more?
Was looking around and came over someone who was willing to pay for a dev to do this Job for him on Guru.com hes Guru Username is CU T and from Malaysia he got ok rep on the site. He offered $3500for the job.
Here is hes listing on Guru.com
www.guru.com/jobs/cyanogenmod-rom-for-huawei-honor-7/1185430#proposalModal
Clicking the Quotes then this picture bellow shows.

Only one that had a offer. I do not know how much time this takes but would it take a year and $24000 to make a unofficial port to Honor 7?
Get involved everyone and post on cyanogenmod official forum link is provided at the end and ask for a Unofficial port! HONOR 7 is better than so many smartphones on the marked they have supported.
[Request] Cyanogenmod For Huawei Honor 7
Will also add they seems to have stopped supporting newer Huawei they have official CM for Huawei Ascend Mate 2.
LOOK! Forum have a section for Huawei. (Made my dog pee inside he was so excited)
 hilarious
off you go then...
"i demand you make something just because i want you to! never mind it's gonna be a real ball-ache, and there will be about 50 total downloads, and you'll have to spend months bug-fixing and doing updates, and listening to people moan that it doesn't have this or that, who cares it's not a snapdragon, or qualcomm chipset, i want code written for that running on my Kirin, and you probably don't even own the handset, but do it for me!"
sarcasm is hard to get across in text... but i tried..
I'll drop this in just for fun.. codeworkx (an awesome CM dev) did and unofficial CM for honor 6...

good luck :silly:
Agreed sminki.
I certainly don't 'need' anything. I have a great phone and am grateful for the updates and tweaks we already have. The two other phone in our household have CM and I much prefer my H7.
i was a bit harsh, and in a bad mood, so to put my point a little more diplomatic...
to get CM (or any other) on here will require someone with dev abilities and the handset, because it cannot simply be "ported" over, there is no base to work from as such, it has to be built for the handset. someone with the handset and drive to get it done will, not because people want it, or because of a thanks button.
shouting "i want" in a forum, be it here or CM isn't going to suddenly make a capable person do it. paying someone will only end in disaster, they're not doing it for the 'right' reason, and even if they cook up something and not just "take off with the cash" - long term will offer no support
just to make myself even more unpopular, i prefer OMNI anyway
why this?
CM is aosp rom as other nothing special same things for the last 10 year only news is CAF version.
PA stop developer and same AOKP and all aosp rom are similar
EMUI is a new way have a good battery saver and lot of feature that we missing with aosp.
if want modding the only best devices are Nexus easy step for root/recovery all team support device and all source are available on Google site.
Obviously my thoughts
I've started playing with CyanogenMod on my Honor 7 (because I made the fatal mistake of buying it instead of something with actual devs working on it), however it's very early on - all I have is working ADB access and a lot of things to learn. Don't get your hopes up too quickly, Mali drivers are apparently painful to get right.
