I think a 1-year period for smartphones is ok, however the screen has to be muuch better than the current one.
faster and more ram are always better
I will have on Day 1!
Even if they show it off on the *IFA next month, it could take easily more then 6 months before it becomes available.. Look at the G-tab 7.7 it took them over a year from showing off at the IFA to get it onto the market....

I don't think that will be the case because this time they are targeting iPhone 5 and would definitely want to bring it to market before its release. My best guess is that we will see Note 2 in market before iPhone 5 release.
Personally im hoping for a q4 2012 release so that I dont have to buy another phone in between to hold my boredom over

You are right, not everyone using LTE network. But most of us really will be and force going to use LTE. Since LTE network fees charges will be equal with 3g within 12months to 18months. And most of the carriers will offer very attractive package come with LTE network. Can you imagine what will happen to the sales of apple if the Iphone 5 without LTE support? (Sorry for off topic,I'm realise we are talking note right now)

Yup you are right. But only until next mid year. Very simple, are you going to buy any smartphone which cost u about usd550 without LTE network support at next year or coming year?. I know not everyone need LTE network support, but what I'm try to figure out is about the future proof. I do believe not everyone able to change their smartphone yearly basis, most of us will use it until 2 or 3 years. With new spec of hardware definetely is good enough for multitasking , high resolution video and gaming purpose. But not for major online game or data transfer speed. Can you imagine how are you going to send the high 1080p video to your friend which recorded by your high spec 12m or 13m note2 camera ? Those full hd video will take at least 1mb per second. Just imagine if you gonna send 5 minutes short movie clip to your friend at his office or somewhere by using cubie..email...line..whatsapp..and more...would take how long?...I do believe a lot of user might go home and upload thru home desktop pc with high speed data. But now we going into a instant social network era...we all want to share instant and directly when having recorded some funny things which is not limited to photo only.
But one thing for sure, our note able to send any data by using wifi direct within 5minutes for 700mb. But this features limited to distance.

I would/will!
We won't have any LTE networks here in the UK of any note within 18 months, so it really doesn't factor into the equation for me.
Even when we do, I'd rather stick with HSPA+ as it seems battery life on LTE isn't great.
I know the US has some great LTE networks now, but the data limits on most plans make it largely worthless IMO - you can burn through a lot of data very quickly over LTE. I'd rather have my truly unlimited data over HSPA+ on Three, than a capped LTE service.
LTE right now reminds me very much of the early 3G networks and phones, which were largely worthless because there was little you could really do with the speed (video calling anyone? ).

Dave

I Couldn't give 2 craps less about LTE. Hence why I have the International Note and not the ATT Note.
Maine, USA won't see LTE for at least 2-3 years (ok, MAYBE 1-2 towers somewhere). As well as many, many, many others parts of the Country/World.

Well, it seems as if it is time to move on from my amazing Vibrant. I have had this for about a year now and it has been my best and favorite phone to date. The devs have been amazing, and everyone on these forums have been fantastic as well.
This isn't a good by, just curious to see if any of you are moving on, and what your thoughts are on it? I would love to see some Team Whiskey on the Hercules, some CM7 love (thats a given), and even some Einherjar Dev's on the new phone.
So what do you say? Will i be seeing more of you in the near future?
Not to the SGS2.
I'm waiting for the Google/Samsung conference event next week and that will decide that. If Verizon is gonna have the exclusivity on the Prime for more than 6 months, I will pick up an HTC Amaze 4G. If not, I will wait 1-3 months and get the one phone to rule them all- Nexus Prime.
T-mobile's SGS2 is a tad outdated in its camera department, screen resolution, and audio output. It's a nice phone but the Amaze 4G is just a hair better imo due to it's back-lit illuminated camera. Nexus prime...well that's nexus prime. Obliterates every phone is just about every department.
I'm quite happy with my Vibrant for now though. CM7 themed beautifully and incredible usability coupled with 1.5Ghz CPU, 1800mah Samsung genuine battery, 32GB microSD +16 internal for 48GB total, audiophile-grade audio out, and impressive screen and form factor? Sorry but this phone is just now at its full potential and I see no reason to upgrade. 3400 Quadrants and no lag anywhere.
iPhone 4S or Nexus Prime, depending on Coverage and Price. I'm leaning towards the iPhone because the Battery Life is great, iCloud is good, and they have a better ecosystem than Google.
However, the rumored hardware in the Nexus Prime is enticing. If it's on T-Mobile, though... I'm gonna have to pass. Dunno why Google keeps launching Nexus phones on T-Mobile. They have the worst coverage of hte 4 carriers, by far.
I'm moving in a few weeks, so I'll have to wait and see how it all pans out...

NOPE, Hercules is going to be Vibrant part 2. Another phone with zero updates/support, especially since it is different from all the other SGS2 phones.
Nice phone, but nope. I rather get Amaze over Hercules.
Waiting for prime though.

Coverage depends where you at. Also T-Mobile is developer friendly. Cyanogen and his team have gotten free phones and tablets to develop on for t-mobile. I don't know what your talking about but Google cloud system is far superior than icloud. Battery life will always be great on a device that can only take low speed 3g. Hspa+,LTE,Wiimax all use higher bandwidth than. Which cause more battery drain. To be specific T-Mobile coverage on the east side is better than at&t and Sprint coverage. On the west aide at&t is has better coverage. Also Verizon has the best coverage all around but be ready to pay an arm and a leg.

Sprint has bad service and doesn't really penetrate walls Hspa+ speeds get the same as wimax speeds. Not to mention T-Mobile has lower ping speeds as well. Let's not mention that if your phone breaks you need to buy a new phone instead of just switching sim cards. This phone is also fully aws compatible. As for throttling I never reached the cap to be throttle and all my apps sync every 5 minutes. Unless your tether all day and streaming YouTube or some video app you never reach it.

The future looks very bright for Samsung. They have Cyanogen on board now which means more source code releases from Sammy and early CM8 release for Galaxy S2. Sammy has better hardware, better screen than HTC and thinner form factor. Im getting the S2 on Oct 12th.
I love the Nexus Prime too but apparently its a Verizon only release (which is why they dont have a Galaxy S2 model) and I dont want to wait 6 months for a GSM version to be released. Also there is word that Ice Cream Sandwich release is being pushed back.
I think I'm gonna wait for the prime. The Hercules seems great with a beefed up cpu but i can see driver problems in the future.
I wanted to get the Samsung Note but that seems that it will only come to at&t.
I don't see myself leave Tmobile anytime soon due to I use over 5g of data a month, I live in the east cost so all networks are about the same, also free tehrering and sum card switching.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I'm going to be moving on to the next Nexus device, especially if it ends up on Verizon. I have been loyal to T-Mo for a loooong time, but as much as I travel, I need a network that is faster in more places (I spend a lot of time wishing I even had EDGE). I already have a VZW MiFi, and I depend on it. Running CM7 with no WiFi Calling can often leave me in the dust on cell reception.
I've always been a fan of Samsung hardware, but I'm not a fan of Touchwiz and the speed of updates. Not just from Samsung, but any manufacturer that is applying their own framework to the mix. I really, really enjoy tinkering with things, and if there's one thing I've learned from my Vibrant (which is my first Android phone) it's that not having a pure Google phone really hinders the process.
That said, if Verizon gets an ACTUAL Nexus device (pure Google) with LTE, then I'll move on over. If not, I'll cross my fingers and hope T-Mobile gets it like they always do and I'll just stay put. Swapping to AT&T or Sprint isn't in the equation, even if they somehow were the only one's with the "Prime". I won't swap if LTE isn't in the equation since here, locally, T-Mobile beats the pants off of EVDO in the speed department.
I honestly believe that people put to much hype into phone specs. No one can tell the difference between processors or much of anything else under the hood. It's fun to talk about and I enjoy geeking out about it all, but hardware changes every 6 months anyway. If you're buying a device based purely on hardware specs, you'll always be disappointed when the next thing comes out 3 months later.
i'll probably kill any one at the store to get one on the release date
okay... kill is a bit overboard, but a would not mind pushing people aside, or jump on them to get it muahahahahaha

Do u Think Sprint Will Get The Galaxy Nexus? And When?
This was spoken about on another thread, they're saying never, since Nexus is prized for its LTE capabilities, and Sprint is deploying LTE for the first Quarter of 2012. After speaking with Sprint Reps a week ago, they also told me LTE is underway on their new towers, but that it won't be an impressive coverage until the next 5 years.

I've been told by an extremely reliable source that Sprint's network re-tool (including LTE) will be completed by late 2013. They are on an extremely aggressive timeline to roll it all out. They can't afford a long, drawn-out one, even if it's cheaper to do.

I half agree with this. I do think Sprint will get it, and I do think there will be 'better' options out there when it happens. However, I think I would rather have a slightly underpowered Nexus than a fully stocked Samsung/Motorola/HTC with the TW/Blur/Sense slapped on top of it.

Google Wallet?
I think Sprint should get it at some point. Google is working with Sprint for Google Wallet and the only phone that does it is the Nexus S 4G. So why wouldn't they bring the next Nexus to Sprint too? Verizon, ATT, and TMo are competing with Google for NFC payments. I figure that since the Epic Touch 4G didn't come with NFC means, they're leaving that for the Nexus phones on Sprint. Just a thought.
I thought 4.5" screen was huge on G2; GN has a 4.7".

I have no confidence in Sprint delivering anything according to a timetable. If this phone is really dependent on a network that Sprint doesn't even have yet, I'm guessing we either won't see this device at all, or, as others have said in this thread, we'll see at a point where it's lost all its cachet.

I seem to recall the Galaxy S2 listing Verizon and that didn't end up meaning anything so who knows
Well, to me it only makes sense that they include Sprint. I mean, the Nexus S eventually came to sprint, did it not? I don't see why Google would exclude a carrier they once worked with, especially if they want more sales.
I hope that link is true Zanderman. I'm pretty sure it is, but there's always that little bit of doubt.

About 12
(I say this as a Dell Streak owner)
Shipped about same as sold for popular product over a quarter
The popularity of the Note means that the amount of stock sitting on retailers shelves would be very small compared to the number actually sold over several months.
Retailers' stock is a short term buffer for a very popular product.
Nice that's about a average of 500,000 Per month not bad for what it is...

Agreed - hardly use my laptop at all anymore. Speed and versatility of the s-pen make this a wonderful niche device. Can't wait for ICS to (hopefully) improve battery life.
I just ordered my all white galaxy note! Should have it by tomorrow. Can't wait. I had been thinking hard about my next toy for long while. Galaxy nexus was tempting, as well as the s2. In the end the note took it. Its gonna be fuuuuuuun. Lol

And if it's selling that well, the more accessories will get made. For instance, decent extended batteries and a keyboard case are top of my list. Huzzah!
samsung really has done a great job for Galaxy Note. hope the future upgraded version of the note will have further surprises for us.
Hey guys I am still rocking my epic 4g, but have finally got to my upgrade date with sprint. I like the look of the galaxy s 2, but I was really disappointed in samsung in how slow they are to update software. I really don't want to go through that crap again. Htc evo 3d looks good but I heard the batt life is not good. I have even considered the iphone 4s, but the durability is very questionable. Any suggestions?

Wait out till Galaxy Nexus or other LTE phones release. Sprint's making to the move to LTE for 4G.
Sent from a CM9 powered Epic.
If you must upgrade now, get the SGS2
If you can wait, get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus or the SGS3
HTC One X

Personally I'd wait til the GSIII announcement to make a decision. Or at least til the beginning of next month to make sure you didn't win a Galaxy Nexus (if you're entering the giveaway everyday).
sgs3 to start rolling out next month. http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/21/samsung-china-exec-suggests-galaxy-s-iii-could-land-in-april/ might not see it on sprint that soon but close enough to wait for an update. i am hoping for word of lte note before my june upgrade.
Just a thought as I recently did this and I understand it's not for everyone. I love my Epic so much and don't mind waiting more (hopefully for a qwerty phone) so I bought one of the $199 iPhones online and then sold it on ebay for over $500. This gives me cash and starts the 'ticker' again on my contract etc...
If you are in the first wave or second wave areas for LTE development, wait for the Galaxy Nexus next month. WiMax phones will not work on LTE. If you don't mind a much larger phone wait and see if and when the Galaxy Journal is coming to Sprint....it is nicknamed a Phablet.

Is it really called a Phablet?? Lol
To upgrade right now would be a waste of money. Two months. 1. LTE 2. New Phones start rolling out and you get better options for the long term. 3. LTE 4. The current line up prices will drop even more. Oh and LTE. Lol
Plus EPIC 4G is hoppin right now!!

Yep even the note on att is called a phablet and really to the OP durable and ipod/iphone shouldn't be in the same sentence really cracked screens all day.
Corning Glass has much more durability not to mention the newest Gorilla Glass.
And Sammy may be slow with updates but atleast on most devices they fix em in every update unlike HTC were there are sevral updates constantly in a month because they don't get it right.

Also wait for the iPhone 5. Jail broke the 4s and its running great as well rooted epic 4g and HTC evo 3d. And there's the galaxy series like the beam, S3 coming out.

I've been sitting on an upgrade since last year for the nexus... that's what I plan on getting on release day =]. Would wait for the gs3 but that's too far from now.

Note: thread title is not exactly true but to some extent.
I'm angered by Samsung release S3 LTE i9305 which made my current i9300 seem old and less advanced. I don't want to argue if 2GB RAM or LTE is necessary but it's obvious that i9305 is better version. Even the upcoming Note2 comes with 2GB RAM and better software (new gallery, etc) than S3. It's now a fact that S3 i9300 no longer the best phone of samsung after less than 4months...
One of the reason why I'm so angry is due to their sale tactics. I think samsung tactics and marketing are dirty. They seem to be very well planned and executed. Here's what they do in these few months in Singapore...
30 May: S3 16GB (White, Blue) launched at SGD$998.
28 July: This is when I got my S3
25 Aug: S3 32GB (White, Blue) launched at SGD$998. 16GB version reduced to SGD$898.
Why reduce the price of 16GB version?
1 Sept: S3 (Red) launched.
13 Sept: S3 LTE 16GB (White, Grey) announced with JB preloaded, coming end of Sept at SGD$998. JB coming to i9300 in Oct.
It's the same day as iPhone 5 keynote here in Singapore, samsung must have planned and decided to announce on this day. The price is same as i9300 first launch?! and we only getting JB in Oct, way after S3 LTE released?!
20 Sept: Market price check on S3 16GB, SGD$790. Resale value is pathetic
22 Sept: S3 (Brown) launch.
I felt that...
Samsung tricked us buying their best smartphone and then trolled us by releasing better variant/version.
They just to want get more sales without caring and benefiting us the early i9300 adopters.
What do you think?
My phone still works so I don't care.

You better be trolling, please tell me you are. Do you really think that any phone will stay number 1 of the production line for even a year these days? 6 months today and a phone is considered "old" by some people's standards.
There's no denying the i9300 is still an awesome phone, though!
There is always a new phone, why bother. If I wanted an iPhone Ive bouth an iPhone. Read as a new release twise a year...

I hate threads like this. Are you saying Samsung should sit on this new phone so you feel better? Technology moves along just below the speed of light and it can make your stomach queezy! If you can't handle it, don't play the game! Your phone still works exactley the same as the day you bought it!
Someone doesn't know how fast technology moves, if you want a phone, that will be the best the company has made for at least 1 year, buy an iPhone, things in the Android world move fast, and always will.
There has to be reason they decided to have 2GB RAM in the 4g enabled S3, I would expect it will be using over 1GB RAM out of the box, then you install things and it will go up fast.
4g and 2GB of RAM is all that makes it better than the I9300, yes its more technologically advanced because of the 4g, however when the I9300 was released it was still up in the air as to whether 4g (at least in UK) would be rolled out by EE, one complaint could have pushed it back so Samsung's this was Samsung's only option, I for one would hate them making a phone with a 4g chip in if EE's rollout was slowed down, it pushes the price up for no reason.
You wanted the latest and greatest as soon as it came out it's not Samsung's fault it's yours... get over it.
OP is a spoiled self entitled idiot. Technology advances quickly. Wake up. End of story.
What's stopping you from selling your sgs3 and buying the updated one? If you're locked into a 2 year contract then that's your own fault. When you signed that contract you will have already known you wouldn't upgrade for 2 years. Did you expect time to stand still for the next 24 months too?
I'm planning to sell my sgs3 and replace it with the note 2 unless something better is coming out soon. I'm not angry. I'm not even slightly annoyed. Get over it.
Of course they care about sales! They are a business!

Yes, I hope Samsung never release a better phone so mine will always be the best. I heard the SGS4 will be dual core and have 512mb ram..

I'm not stupid, I knew better phones were gonna come along while I own my i9300 but nothing's gonna be that much better in the space of 4 months.
So I'm not gonna be one of those who's obsessed with making sure people know I have the best phone all the time and buying something new every few months simply because it's better.
And I honestly think the S3 is so good that the S4 really is only gonna be a tiny step up and I'll be keeping this until 4G comes out on Three Mobile UK.

You mean they don't just exist to make us happy?
Guys, have some sympathy, OP's phone must have auto-bricked and now completely hopeless.
Where do they come from is their some production line churning out these idiots that appear daily .

hopefully just a faulty batch
In 6 months, the OP'd be talking about the 2GB SIII like he's talking about this one now. Technology doesn't stop because you can't or refuse to keep up.
