Anyone else actually considering the Vibrant 4G?

I'm a serial phone swapper , but I'd have to say that the Vibrant (all GPS issues, the plasticy feel about it and lack of Samsung updates aside) was one of my favorite Android phones.
I'm seriously considering picking up the Vibrant 4G when it comes out. I love the screen, the call quality , and signal strength that it had. If this 2nd edition of the Vibrant lives up to those qualities of the first, I have no worries about picking one up!
Anyone else considering getting one?

If it was time for me to update on my contract I probably would.
I absolutely love this phone! Thankfully I've had no issues with GPS and honestly it doesn't feel as solid as my old G1 made by HTC. I only have a cheapy silicone case on it that I literally got for $3 from Japan thru ebay, and I've dropped it a few times from around 2-3 feet and the phone didn't miss a beat.
So even tho it feels light and cheap it def holds up, even with just a cheap case.
And yes , Samsung is horrible with the updates, but we've also found that it is also TMO's fault as well.
But IDC bout updates, we have the greatest devs giving us ROM's that make my phone feel literally 10 times faster and smoother than my g/f's stock Nexus S!
Also, I got a front facing camera from a buddy for $20. So My phone will be exactly like the 4G, aside from the fact of the 4G speeds of course.

i really was thinking about getting it and actually got as far as almost completin gmy ebay listing to sell my current vibrant before the price drops....but then i looked up some more details about the 4g and found out that it only has 1gb internal memory. Also, since the devs currently have vibrants, and the vibrant 4g isnt ThaT MUCh of an upgrade, i think they will stick with the current vibrant. So then the dev community will not be that strong for the 4g. Agreed, its an easy port between the two phones, but I personally have no idea how to do it and im pretty sure that all devs will be busy porting 2.3 etc to the current vibrant to pay much attention to the vibrant 4g....so im not jumping ship just yet

maybe when my 3g speeds max out everywhere i go, t-mobile lifts the 5gb throttle limit, or i actually find a use for a FFC. until then, i'm fine with the original

I am actually considering it, first i will see how far i get with customer loyalty(because my gps never truly worked on any rom), we've been with tmobile since voicestream(Probably won't matter to them anyways). If customer loyalty is willing to send a vibrant 4G at a reasonable price i will get it, if not i will wait for dual core. Honestly unless another manufacturer comes out with a super amoled+ display i don't see myself leaving samsung. They suck with updates but xda pushes out way better roms than stock.

My wife works for Tmobile so I'll be getting it She gets 3 free phones a year...so yeah

I won't be spending money on it, but I will be calling the customer loyalty department and finagling a free Vibrant 4G out of them for pulling a shenanigan like this.

Can't get over the 1GB of internal storage... so no. Plus, it's not much of an upgrade without dual cores.
However, I'll be keeping a close eye on that Galaxy S2. Here's to hoping it's 4G!

It's not 1gb internal. It's 16gb and comes with 16 external micro SD card. U start with 32gb.
1gb is for apps. And I believe its like 1.8 not 1gb.
Same as ours. Only difference is the back cover, battery, ffc, and it supports 4g.

Not really, had to read it again, but they are assuming the Nexus S model number is most likely SPH-D720, since the D600 has WPS support which is only available for Touchwiz devices (WPS is not available for stock Gingerbread devices). That's what I got from reading that sentence.
So it has to be stock Gingerbread. Nexus named phones has been branded to be stock devices. So if they did put customized Android versions on a Nexus named device, then they will probably get a bad backlash from the community for it.

Don't get too upset. A) it'll be on Sprint/NASCAR, and B) will require two radios to use the WiMAX. So if you thought your battery life was poor on your NS now, just you wait!

1) Nexus line doesn't get carrier bloatware. And sprint football is actually a great app.
2) I used a sprint wimax phone for 6 months. I don't care that its on sprint I care that Google is allowing our device to be superseded months after its release. We all know our phone should have had 4g to start with and u bought it as the premiere Google device under the impression that I wouldn't be ****ed by Samsung releasing a new version a few months later. Its ****ing pathetic.

Hopefully they take the time to add a second noise canceling microphone. Because the voice quality of the original nexus s was atrocious compared to the nexus one.

Pretty disappointing.. However, I remember reading a few weeks back when people were mad about the fact the original Samsung Vibrant was 3g and then they were releasing the 4g.. Samsung said that the original Vibrant was fully capable of 4g speeds.. So i'm wondering if its the difference of a radio ? I really dont know much about the technical aspects, im just repeating what I read.. I think it was on BGR.com..

If this is the game google is going to play, iPhone 5 is going to be looking VERRRRRY attractive to alot of people, with polished build quality and little to no bugs.. Easy decision if you ask me.

You're exactly right. I played this game with Samsung on my Epic 4G and I bought a Nexus S because I wanted to feel like my phone was top of the line for more than a week and that was true of the Nexus One for a long time. It was stupid to release the Nexus S without HSPA+ support given that it the technology was more than available. I've been an Android guy from the beginning. I never wanted an iPhone but you know what? I'm starting to like the way regular updates and support for later iterations. You know what Apple does for people who purchase a current iteration of a phone close to when they announce a new one? They give them money back. What did Samsung do for Vibrant owners when they released the Galaxy S 4G (C'mon its a Vibrant 4G)? Nothing. They left them to twist in the wind and if Google is allowing that to happen to Nexus users here, I'm pretty done with the platform. I'm not paying money to a company that stopped caring about their current devices 10 minutes before they came off the line.

$80 per month on sprint or $50 on T-Mobile. I think I'll stick with T-Mobile. I quit sprint for this phone anyway, haha.
Also, I'd rather have T-Mobile 3g than wimax/cdma. Better battery life all around. And really guys, do you really need to download anything on a phone faster than 5-7 mbp/s?

To me its not about the download speeds or the money. I too came from Sprint to get this phone. Its a matter of moral standards and care for your customer base, which this move shows that Google cares about neither.

I can't figure out wth you're trying to say in that first line but I assume its something to the effect of you can't stop progress and I'm not asking that. I'm asking that they not release a phone with certain features and with certain features lacking then release the same phone with the features it lacked a few months later. There is no "progress" progress here. Sprint's first WiMax phone was released in July of last year; 9 months ago. Tmobile's first "4G" phone? November 2010; 5 months ago. Verizon was behind the curve but they are using completely different technology. When the Nexus S was announced there was already one semi-4G phone (T-Mobile G2) and one full 4G phone (T-Mobile MyTouch 4G). Where is the "progress" in releasing the same phone with a feature that already existed. If they released a Nexus 3 with dual core, sure I'd be angry that they announced it a mere 2.5 months after the previous iteration was announced but it would be a different phone. This is the exact same phone with feature that should have been released with the original added in for ****s and giggles. Its not "butthurt", its moral indignation. The same moral indignation I'm sure Vibrant owners felt because that was just as bull**** a move.
And how is this a faster phone? Its literally the exact same phone? Am I "butthurt" it didn't come with a dual core? No. I think its a little silly but I still love my phone, or loved I should say. Get over it man. It's not a big deal, even in principe. I've bought 3 phones in a year (n1, g2, ns) so I am definitely not one to sit idly while my phone ages and be complacent with it. I just like gadgets. But this is just the way this industry works. I personally don't care if my ns supports hspa or hspa+. You'll never notice the difference in day to day unless you download gigabytes of data a day. Tmo supposedly caps you after 5 anyway. (i usually only use about 300M/mo because I jump on wifi every chance I can.
Also, google isn't dropping 'support' for this phone just because sprint us getting a 4g version. On the contrary the 'platform' is widening. Did the at&t version that passed fcc have hspa+?

Glad to see people are realizing what terrible customer service Google has. They just don't care. They're concerned with getting Android on as many devices as they can so they can rake in the ad revenue. They're just happy releasing stuff in perpetual Beta

I've owned four phones in the last 6 months (MT3G, Epic 4G, Evo 4G, NS all of them bought in the last year the last three in the last 6 months). You'll never see the difference between 3-5MBps and 20+MBps in daily use? Really? Typically, it takes my laptop (on comcast cable) less than a second to load the Engadget website whereas my phone takes 5, sometimes 10 seconds to load the same page on 3G. On WiMax (with a theoretical topspeed of 20MBps but it runs more frequently around 10MBps) it loads around the same time. On T-Mobile's HSPDA? It would be faster than on my computer. Sure, I'm on WiFi a good portion of the time but when I'm not it is often painfully slow trying to do anything.
For example, the other day my wife was getting fed up with Swype while she we were both at work. She wanted to use the keyboard I use (a modified gingerbread keyboard) so I tried to email it to her but the 5.25MB file just sat in my phones outbox for 20 minutes. So I decided to upload it to my dropbox which took an astonishing 7 minutes. I know the area I was in had 4G coverage and I know if I could have been on 4G it would have been almost instant. Its not progress its just bull****. Sell them a phone without a feature they want then release it again with the new feature and get them to buy it again. Its ethically wrong.

You mean they are a corporation trying to make money and not spending millions to give the world a big gift? If you ask me, no android is not prefect, what is? Nothing. It's better than the alternatives for my needs and tastes. If google has an agenda to try to turn a profit with it, they are no different than any of they other companies.

If there was ever a LTE version for att of the NS, I could honestly say it would be the last phone I would ever need.

I would be happy with a HSPA+ for TMO or ATT
Hell I am hoping the LTE version will launch for Sprint too
If the GN comes I see it being the LTE flavor. Or maybe dual WIMAX and LTE?
I was thinking of the Epic Touch but seeing ICS on INT GS2 left a horrible taste in my mouth . Hopefully they will leave the stock launcher like they did for GB?

I've reached the conclusion that buying expressive electronics when they first come out is simply a bad consumer choice. How often do new electronics (especially phones) ship with some kind of defect? It takes at least a few months for all the bad batches to reach the suckers and the bug-free versions to hit shelves.

Eh, I dont know. My Launch day Nexus One is still alive and working very well. My Launch day Nexus S 4G is stable up to 2Ghz (if it doesn't get too hot anyway), and has no major issues. Hell I even get better signal on my NS4G than ANY other phone I've ever had.

Nexus S is somewhat of a special case; most if, if not all, the bugs were worked out the year prior with the galaxy s line. And if you paid attention, which i did, the gs had plenty of problems til they released the the updated versions without bugs (gs4g and ns). On top of that, the ns4g had the ns out before it--> that's about 3 generations of product field testing. You should really thank gs, ns, and gs4g for making your ns4g what it is today

Current evo4g owner eligible for an upgrade. Was on the sprint website trying to decide between this ns4g ($0.00) and the epic touch4g ($199.99). Love the gs2's hardware, but I agree with don'tshootmesanta's distaste for TouchWiz smothering the ICS goodness underneath. Love the nexus s 4g, but it is getting a little long in the tooth. Would it be wise to get the nexus now?
As a premiere customer I believe my annual upgrade will disappear in two weeks as the program comes to an end, and the opportunity to (finally) own a nexus device, for free, seems foolish to pass up.

The foolish thing would be not to get the iPhone 4s and flip it. Nexus S 4G are too cheap to use an upgrade on it.

1. Use my upgrade to buy the iPhone 4S for $199.99
2. Sell iPhone on craigslist/ebay for ~ $600
3. Keep using the evo or use the $400 profit to buy new phone off contract?

I jumped on this today for my other line...anyone recomend any good roms...or is stock rooted good enough....I would like to overclock a little too...any recommendations would be helpful cause this won't be my phone so i won't be able to tinker with it...thanks

Love the gs2's hardware, but I agree with don'tshootmesanta's distaste for TouchWiz smothering the ICS goodness underneath. Love the nexus s 4g, but it is getting a little long in the tooth. Would it be wise to get the nexus now?
As a premiere customer I believe my annual upgrade will disappear in two weeks as the program comes to an end, and the opportunity to (finally) own a nexus device, for free, seems foolish to pass up.

For me it's either Nexus or no Android phone but I'd get the Epic Touch 4G. You could easily sell it, buy a Nexus S 4G and have some cash to spare. You could even wait and see if the Galaxy Nexus hits Sprint and sell the Epic Touch 4G then.

Just saw this and this makes even more sense than my suggestion. You could get a NS4G on ebay and still have money for another phone.

Yea Peter Alfonso's Bugless Beast GPA 19, very much stock but better. You can just d/l and install it through Rom Manager although it's probably still on these forums some where, just to much other ICS stuff to wade through and find it. I've tried them all and his is by far the smoothest bug free one I've came across, great battery life as well. I'll stick with it until he gets a ICS version up and running.

Looks like I'll be buggering off to the SGIII.

I was planning on using my upgrade (in July) to move to the Evo LTE, then HTC announced the non-removable battery. Since the SG3 is basically a wash on specs with the Evo LTE, but has a removable battery, I am going to end up using my upgrade to switch camps.
I just wanted to say thanks to all the devs who put in so much work on the beloved Evo OG. You guys really made this phone great and I know you don't get enough thanks or credit, just more demands from us.
Anyway, good luck to those of you who stick with HTC for the next two year merry-go-round.

I agree with the battery thing, I feel like its taking away my independence that I have right now with the OG. I take comfort in knowing I can bring along a spare battery or 2 on day trip where I'll be away from a power supply. I'm still weighing my options, right now that's the only turn off with the LTE. We'll see, I'm not in a rush.

You know you can buy rechargeable charge cells, and if your battery dies, you can pull it outta your pocket and plug it in your phone for a fast fix.
Also, so far, people are reporting pretty damn good battery life on the lte

That won't solve the problem of the battery losing charge capacity over time. the way that I use my phone, my batteries lose about 50% of their charge capacity by one year. So I've already replaced two batteries on my Evo OG (most recently in December with another 3500mah Seido brick battery). Being unable to replace a battery means that over that stupid 2 year contract, I will get less and less use time from my phone, and more time on the charger.
So, yes, not having a removable (replaceable really) battery is a really big deal for me. I was also going to miss the kickstand, but I since learned that most case manufacturers have cases with kickstands build in.
The biggest unknown for me is how good the SG devs are. From what I've seen in the SGSIII subforum, it looks promising.

I have two reservations about the LTE:
1) I got the OG with hopes of using Sprint's 4G network. Turns out, it wasn't yet available in my area when I got the phone, but they promised it would be soon. Now that Sprint has abandoned WiMax, I can only use 4G when I go downtown. Who is to say that the same scam won't happen with LTE? What if Sprint jumps ship the second another new technology comes along?
2) The battery IS a big issue for me as well. As a chronic ROM flasher, what am I supposed to do when I experience the inevitable crash or freeze that requires a battery pull to restart the phone? Am I really supposed to just wait for the battery to die before I can get on my phone again? No, thanks.

Any who.. can't I just stick w my evo now n wait for someone to mess w a ROM that picks up 4g lte?? I don't know how all this junk works.. NOOB.. but I had a HTC hd2 which I THINK was only 3g.. flashed an android ROM n was able to pick up 4g on it.. then flashed an ICS ROM on it, 4g n other cool junk..
I'm pretty happy w my evo now.. so I'm just playing the waiting game until someone pushes out a FULL working ICS ROM.. I'm on sprint now so 4g is so much better than T-Mobile.. I guess ill deal w the lte issue when I really have to..
Anyone care to enlighten me some more??

Think about what he said in 2), I bet this crossed a few of the minds over at HTC as well. Not saying this is the main reason for the non removable battery, but I'm all but sure it was thought about.

Well to answer your second question, when you go into a loop like i did Saturday (installed the recovery incorrectly) you just hold the the power button and it will power down and i was able to get back to fastboot to reinstall it.
I'm happy with the LTE and I'm sure you guys will enjoy the SIII

I was going to get one of these phones but since LTE is not coming out for a while I decided to pickup a slightly used Epic Touch 4G so that I can still have the Wimax speeds and wait until LTE is rolled out in my area to pickup an LTE phone. By then there may be other phones out or at least more used ones available for sale. By then I will also be able to view forum posts and see development progess on both of these phones before I purchase.

Considering switch to AT&T and the note, opinions?

I have had the Evo 4g since launch, and it has been an amazing phone. I have loved it even more since I rooted it and every new rom I try. But my girlfriend seems to be in love with the note, and I have to admit, that big a$$ screen is kind of nice. I'm just not sure that I would put it to its fullest use for very long, liek using the stylus and stuff. And by the looks fo the forums for the Note, there are only a couple roms for it. Not saying I need to have as many roms available as I have had with my 4g, but it would be a plus.
I guess I am wondering if I should consider the note, or if the galaxy s3 might fit the bill better. Or should I stick with sprint and grab and Evo LTE?
I'm not asking you to make up my mind for me, I need to play with the phones and do that myself. Just wondering if anybody has any opinions or advice?

Seriously, though, I do admit that the Note is impressive, both in size and performance. While not too much more impressive than the rest of the Galaxy SII series (especially the Skyrocket), the screen size is instantly what gets people's attention. I've tested the Note, and I do like its appearance and style...but damn, that One X is sexy
I don't know, it's up to you on this one. The Note isn't too much more expensive than the One X, and Samsung's UI is easy to get used to. You get a nice phone either way.

HTC EVO 4G LTE pretty much is the one x + the SD card,kick stand and removeable battery haha..the note..ehhh,I'd just get the s3 for sprint...can't mess with unlimited data plans..perfect for root + free wifi tether/hot spot....wireless network speeds don't really effect me,as along as I can make a phone call b do basic browsing...there's usually a wifi connection for downloads n updates nowadays

I wanted something different. Nothign against HTC, I loved my evo. And truth be told I may prefer sense to touchwiz. But we, my girlfriend and I picked up a couple notes. The screen size is amazing, no complaints there. Battery life the past couple days has been in the 10-12 hour range, which seems a little low to me since it was with less then moderate use. But then again I am comparing to my rooted evo running decks reloaded and mason SBC which would last forever, lol.
I was hoping to be more wowed by the note like I was when I got my evo. But I think the jump from a blackberry curve to the evo was a bit more of a wow move then what moving fromt he evo to the note is. The note is a great phone, and my girlfriend loves it. I need to really get my hands dirty with it and see what it can do, but I am keeping my options open.

That's expected; jumping from one OS to the other is way different than just switching phone manufacturers. Android to Android isn't that amazing; Android to iOS (or, preferably the other way around ) is.
Either way, seems you're warming up to your phone nicely. Always good to hear that. If you stick with it, great. If not, I would recommend the One X should this phone disappoint down the road. You have some time to test drive it, so get what you can out of it before making that final decision.

I would make the decision based on; what 3G speeds you get now, if where you live will get Sprint's LTE soon, and if you already have Wimax coverage.
So I guess I'm saying it kind of depends.

I am in columbus OH, I have 4G on both att and sprint and i imagine ATT and sprint will both have LTE here by the end of the year.
I haven't read up much on the HTC One X or the Samsung Galaxy SIII, but one thing iI loved about the evo was how easy it was to root/flash and not brickbrick the thing. Looking at the note forums, I see a lot of posts about bricked phones. Granted I haven't read all the details, but it seems rooting/flashing is less safe on the note, which kind of sucks. Are the One X or SIII any easier to root/flash?
Just realized I was viewing the international note forums. The art note forums seem a little more user friendly

Well, if I knew for sure about LTE coming to my area within a year on Sprint, I would stay with Sprint. Personally I would get a Wimax device OFF contact (Epic Touch is Sprint's best Wimax device), and wait til the end of the year to see if LTE will actually come. Then make my decision. If you are completely done with Sprint though, just jump ship now. No reason to wait.
