Has anyone noticed the brightness changing when accessing the camera application.
It annoys the hell out of me, I've tried loads of custom roms in the hope one would not have this issue.
Is there anyway to solve it.
In general use I don't use auto brightness and set the brightness on low, and it's annoying when going into the camera and the brightness shoots up and makes everything slightly washed out.
The only rom that doesn't do this is the miui rom but I want something more stable for everyday use.

No.
The transition looks really bad when going into the camera app and then going back to home screen or app drawer.
At first I thought it was a bug in a custom rom, but it even does it on the stock rom.
I fear for you this is how Samsung wanted it to be: Starting the cam app sets the screen brightness to max! After closing the app it reverts to initial...
Was the same on all my HTC devices!
Samsung counts this as a feature, not a bug...
Maybe potatoman can "fix" this,
although I think it's ok for most of us!
Either way, this means that you would have to replace your camera.apk with a modified one, and someone has to modify it for you!
Hope this helps, our at least clarify this issue!

Thanks for the info.
I'm new to android and samsung phones really.
I was hoping it was a setting that could be disabled.
Not sure why samsung felt the need to crank the brightness when in camera mode.
I've run into the brightness chaning in other apps too.
I know that on the stock browser you can adjust brightness.
But what I want is just ONE brightness setting for the whole phone, is this too much to ask for?!
I am using stock KF3 uk unbranded firmware, and my brightness does not change when I enter the camera app. I do not believe I have altered any settings.
Hope this helps.
Hi All
I don't know if this was discovered before or not, If so please ignore this thread and forgive me.
I got my Galaxy S2 less than a week ago, I was really disapointed as the display had a greenish tent and the colors saturation was very High.
However I upgraded the phone to the latest Middle East FW which is
Firmware info
PDA:JPKG2
PHONE: XXKF1
Date: 04/07/2011
And then rooted it using CF-Root.
Then I came Across The following thread which update the Kernel to OverClock the S2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075061
Strangely enough When I updated the Kernel to the one from the above thread my Display Colors were correctd and the color saturation is also corrected.
The greenish tent is now gone, Colors are great now.
The next step I did was rooted my phone again but this time I used the CF-Root file for KE2 which is the Version of the OverClocked Kernel and It worked and kept the new Color Saturation.
Regards
All those views and no comments, Guys did you find this thread useful ?
Best regards
I find it interesting but have yet to try it. And also. This doesn't belong in the developer forum.
But thanks for the tip. I will try it

Have you tried changing to the movie option in settings - display - screen mode sorts out the colors for me
also the above poster is right this belongs in the general/Q&A forum as you haven't created anything.

Yes I have tried the movie option but the greenish tent effect remained un changed,it will be clear in the internet browser as the site will show greenish.
You need to try it to see the difference .
Also as I stated b4 I thought it belongs to here as in involves flash in new kernel.

Slightly off topic,I've set a profile pic but its not showing in this app, have I missed a setting somewhere?
Only issues I've noticed coming from KH3 are:
1. The default font sucks (and there's only two other slightly less sucky choices)
Can we get the fonts from KH3 anywhere?
2. The lock screen clock has a leading "0" even when not needed, so the clock in the lockscreen reads, for example: 04:25PM. Of course, I'm not on 24 hour preferences in the display, or this would read differently (I tried it.)
Not thrilled about that at all. Anyone else see that?
3. The dialer says "Favourites" which isn't a US English spelling, despite the fact that this is how I use my phone primarily, and how it is set now in Language preferences.
Did you change your language to United States English?

Did you notice any slight stutter while passing through pages on the main screen? This seems only exist when the background is picture wallpaper, not noticable on live wallpaper. No stutter feeling in application menu page changing. I used kf3 before this and there were not any stutter.

The fonts are in /system/fonts folder. I am on KH4 and not noticed any difference.
I suppose you could copy the KH3 fonts into the KH4 folder and reboot your phone.
I have not tried this as I am using the Choco cooky font.
As an alternative, you can do a google search for fonts and install the ones you like. I tried this and installed some interesting fonts but got tired of them after awhile.
As far as cycling through the screens, I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary. I am using Launcherpro Plus.
What about the leading 0 in the lockscreen clock?
How can I get rid of that? I hate it. I flashed back to KH3 and cleared everything via CWM, yet it persisted. I went back to KH4 and did the same thing, still there.
For example, I'm on 12 hour time US English settings and my lockscreen clock will read: 09:45 PM
The dialer still says "Favourites" instead of "Favorites."
Anyone?
(I'd also love it if someone could post the KH3 fonts)

Just a thought is their a American English language pack .
jje
I have noticed some weird effects on my screen since upgrading to KH4 where fonts arent completely black, but lets say in the sentence "The cat ate the bird" two of the words would be slightly grey, and this occurs throughout black text on white backgrounds.
Also I have noticed the left side of the screen in some apps, seems to be darker than the right.. so i'm going back to UK stock KE7 to see whether it still does that.
Apart from those, it seems blazing fast with no bugs from what I can see.

The thing is that the leading "0" in the lockscreen clock is wrong in ANY language.
For example, if you change 2:00 PM to 24 hour time, it should read 14:00
In this ROM, using 12 hour time, the lockscreen clock reads 02:00PM
That's the problem, and I'm not sure how to solve it, but I don't think the language is the issue, because the ROM has US English as an option... and I'm using it.
Is there anything positive about KH4 compared to KH3 which can be noticed?
There is no us firmware released yet, so that's why "favorites" is "favourites" and the issue with the clock its not an issue at all, I'm on kh3 and its the same.

Found a funny little "bug", but don't know if it's new though. In settings->display->screen time-out there are two spaces between "screen" and "time-out". Anyone with another firmware version able to check if it's also there? Really weird "bug" to introduce

Thanks for that. I'm really surprised if that's the case, because I was almost positive that the lockscreen clock wasn't like that for me when I first flashed KH3. I was pretty sure it only started for me after KH4, but I could be wrong.
Can anyone else corroborate that?

I flashed it via Odin from LB1. But i m finding it little laggy than LB1.
(Mind u little means actually very less , i found scrolling contacts n msgs was smoother in LB1.)
Though i will be sticking with indian rom
Thanks for the info. Updating now. Will let you know if I find anything new....
performance improvement
I wonder if there are any apps (or easy way) to actually measure the performance of apps and operations on device so we can capture baseline with each update and then compare it when next update arrive. This way we can be 100% assure. It would be good to have on non-rooted device.

Yes, you have latest Official Indian firmware.
If you dont mind, may i ask what the red jet icon on status bar is for?
Oh Wow!!
The 1-2 second lag after your phone comes out of sleep mode is now gone!!!
Well done Samsung !!
Kies vs OTA?
I found the LB2 update via Kies yesterday. The initial download took around 3 minutes , the second step took over 30 minutes but did not complete .
I did an OTA update today, and the whole process was done in 10 mins.
What is the difference in the Kies update method vs OTA , why does Kies require more files to update?
Kies replaces complete firmware(abt 550MB) while OTA, just modified/added files only. Size of the OTA update depends on changes in ROM

Are you sure? I got the OTA just now and I can still see the lag.
The startup is very fast in standby. Before this, after pressing home button I had wait for few seconds before the swipe to unlock screen appears. Now it is almost less than a second. Overall performance is also faster.

Wonder why I am still seeing the lag. My device is pretty much untouched. Didn't even root yet.
EDIT:
I noticed a pattern. If I have an active download in progress (thereby having the "downloading" icon on notification bar), the wake up lag is gone. In normal conditions the lag is still there.
Similarly when the charger is plugged in, there is no lag. Once I take it out, the lag is back.
Looks like the system shouldn't be totally idle for the wakeup lag to disappear.
It is called a wipe, it clears trash from last fw and it is good. You will spent a hour or so to restore your accounts but it is worth it.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
I did wipe the cache on stock recovery but that didn't remove the lag. I don't want to wipe the data and start all over.
I just hope ICS for Note is around the corner.
1. Screen brightness under sunlight: the S6 was a lot brighter thanks to a special setting enhancing colors, the Nexus is barely readable.
2. Camera software: S6 wins hands down here, on Nexus don't even have exposure compensation.
3. Headphones volume: Nexus is too low.
4. Notification sounds with headphones: the S6 was ringing from main speaker, the Nexus barely emits a sound in headphones, so you may miss notification when headphones are plugged in but non on your hear.

There's a tut for headphone volume.

Also there is a free app that gets used with elementalx kernel that works great for brightness and can be found here.

As stated in previous post, you will need root for both.

I read that as only being a fix for rooted phones and I'm all aboyt the flashing stuff, so I can see how he could have thought so as well/ assumed it wouldn't be of any help in his case/ didn't bother to click the link.
That being said, I have no clue why someone would not root their 6p when it would solve 3/4 of the things they dislike about it. It's like a ten minute process max and is utterly devoid of risk or effort lol

I don't believe so but High Brightness Mode widget is one of the main reasons I have root and the only reason I run a custom kernel.
And the widget works as advertised.
I use ElementalX with Tasker to achieve high brightness mode. Don't need the widget.

I dont have a comparison but i use HBM and its essential for me to see the screen in sunlight.
Also theres a nifty tasker tutorial somewhere on xda i used and it automatically triggers HBM when light reaches a certain point. Do a search if youre interested. If you cant find it let me know and Ill see if i can find it. More convenient than a widget and it doesnt add clutter.
