Can anyone please help me recover from a boot problem after implementing the boot animation fix below. My phone now gets stuck at the end of the boot animation and will not go any further. It might be caused because I didn't do the last bit and "change number of loops (usually 0 - after the word p in second line) in bootanimation.zip" I have tried to copy in a new boot animation using android commander, but it won't let me mount /system/media as read and write. What tool and procedure could i use to access the phone file system as writeable? I have never used a shell tool. Is there a graphical tool I could use that would mount the system folder so I can write a file to it?
Can someone please advise on a fix?
I did this procedure below, but forgot to change the number of loops
"1. Rename samsungani in /system/bin to anything
2. Copy bootanimation in /system/bin into this folder and rename it into samsungani
3. Copy your bootanimation.zip into /data/local or /system/media
* this method wont work if there's more than 1 folder in bootanimation.zip
* and don't forget to change number of loops (usually 0 - after the word p in second line) in bootanimation.zip, file part.desc into 1 or more than save it. Otherwise you will get into boot loop in bootanimation "
Simply reflash stock ROM with PC Odin
Yeah reflashing the rom can get you out of the bootloop.
But be sure u r on a Safe Kernel.
Speedmod k3-3 or Chainfire kernel v > 5.6
Before you change the rom,
try this
Before using android commander (I assume that your android commander has not obtained root access)
Open the windows command prompt
Locate your adb.exe and run the command from the same folder as follows.
c:\ADB> adb root
restart android commander
and then try to mount in RW mode
Reflashing ROM why need to have safe kernel??
Oh right u need safe kernel only if ur wiping.

Hello everyone,
I have recently been messing around with my droid 2 and was able to change the boot screen successfully by doing the following commands:
PHP:
adb push bootanimation.zip system/media/
After running this command I had the new animation and that works great. My question is if anyone know how to incorporate a boot up sound with this. I have tried creating a bootscreen folder and having the boot_animation.xml in both the system/media path and the system/media/bootscreen path, however to no success. It is to be noted that when I removed the bootanimation.zip from the system/media folder, it defaults to the original blue android loading animation as if it were not seeing a bootscreen folder.

What is the boot animation that you used and is is just as simple as removing the boot animation that is in the system media file and replacing it with another boot animation like what was done with the D1?
Yes it was pretty simple just do the following
PHP:
adb pull system/media/bootanimation.zip
This will pull you current boot animation. Move it somewhere to keep as a backup.
PHP:
adb push bootanimation.zip system/media/
This is assuming bootanimation.zip is located in you android sdk's tools folder. You can use any of the bootanimations that are an assortment of pngs.

I wonder what would happen if you had one in data/local

Anyone have any further info on this? I would really like a startup sound again.

Ok if the boot animation is on the system media file like the D1 why cant we just take a boot animation and delete it out of the system media and replace it with a new one? Do you have to ADB push it?
The boot animation is kept in the system/media folder. If you can replace this by another means, it will work. I chose to use adb push as I was already in my command line due to an application i was writing.
help
hey guys, sorry for the noob question, but what r u guys using to zip your finnished product? (not a flashable zip) just the zip u can push or use root expor to just place in correct spot. i know you cant use anycompression, but ive tryed everything and i must be doing something wrong. to make sure my zip methods are not adding any compression, i pulled my orig bootanimation, which zipped is 6114kb, i unzipped, then rezipped, and i keep getting dif sized zip files.. if done right it should be the exact same size right?
using the following this is what i get
ok oring is 6114kb, heres what the others do, 7zip 6124kb(bigger) PC zip client 6086kb and winrar is the closest at 6119kb
any advice would be greatly apr
Does doing ADB push require you to plug the phone into the computer in PC mode?
Also, can you change boot animations on stock ROM, or only on custom ROM?
I downloaded a bootanimation.zip file that's 480x854 pixels, the same as the D2's screen. I also looked at the default bootanimation.zip file, which is 480x480. Does the resolution matter at all, or can the phone display it either way?

No need, you can download Super Manager from Market, using file manager function and get root access to copy directly.
Have fun.
Since this is bumped anyway, for whatever reason sounds will not work on boot with the default Rom. MIUI and other Roms are necessary for this mod.
I tried everything...
What I did :
- I put my bootanimation.zip to the android SDK/tools.
- I rebooted my DHD in clockwork recovery.
- I went to mounts and storage, where I mounted "system" and "data".
- I plugged my Phone on my PC, I ran cmd and did this :
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local (I also pushed it in /system/customize/resource and /system/media)
- It showed something like 400kb at 400kbs.
I reboot and... I got the most horrible bootanimation you ever seen, yes, the default one... (search SFR logo to see this sh*t)
So please help me, my phone looks like Santa Claus's one !!!!
What did I miss ?
My phone is root, S-OFF, and I use clockworkmod recovery.
Thank you for reading.
Nobody knows?
you might have to change the permissions on the bootanimation.zip file
get root explore, navigate to the file, mount root explore to r/w
long press on the bootanimation.zip select permissions
user read write
group read
others read
hope that works
push .zip to /system/customize/resource and delete the others
OK I'll try it, thank you !
edit : It worked ! Thank you !
No worries

Hi all,
i often noticed people(including me) who tried to modificate their framework-res.apk resulting in boot loops(e.g. looping at white/green quietly brilliant screen).
So i tried to find out a fast way to get back to my(original) framework-res.apk without usage of recovery console each time my framwork-res.apk did not work as expected.
How it could help you:
It's a fast way to:
check out your moddings when doing numerous modifications in different versions of your modded framework-res.apk on your way to get it to work.
if you want to get back to your original/working framework-res.apk, even when it boot loops!
Click to collapse
When you do numerous modifications on framework-res.apk and your modded apk leads to a boot loop you will be able to replace the current apk through e.g. the original apk.
At this boot point(boot loop screen) Android nearly finished booting and you have access on ADB commands.
What do you need to do this:
Download and extract/install QtADB from the link below:
QtADB
to replace the erroneous(current) framework-res.apk by the original or a fixed one.
Click to collapse
There's no need to describe how to get a copy of your untouched framework-res.apk from device, since there are numerous tutorials around here.
Please check this tutorials to get a copy of your apk.
Please note before beating your device:
this probably will work with the most visual moddings of framework-res.apk - but i can't guarantee it works 100%.
It probably will not work when you play around with hardware or connections setting, other apk's or other stuff in other folders, so i am not responsible if it does not work.
always backup your current ROM/settings/whatever and save a copy of your untouched framework-res.apk
There is a little catch in it in comparsion with using recovery:
After you did like described, you have to set your background image and your (google) accounts anew.
But this is just a little work and it's not necessary until your framework-res.apk is doing the modded stuff correctly - or if you want to set the original framework-res.apk back.
Click to collapse
So let's start to revive your original framework-res.apk.
(Of course you can use this method to push a modded to your device, to check out if your modding works):
Boot your device and let it load until you're at boot loop
(Download, extract,) run QtADB
Navigate in left window(Computer) to your copy of original framework-res.apk(e.g. in root directory of SD card, but i recommend a folder on your computer)
Navigate in right window(Phone) to device folder /system/framework/
Use in left window(Computer) context menu on your original framework-res.apk and select copy or drag&drop it to right window to copy the original framework-res.apk to your device
(just ignore that your device is doing strange stuff then, since it cannot access your framework-res.apk correctly at this point)
Then enter shell of QtADB(at left toolbar of QtADB) and enter the following commands to set the apk's prermissions:su
cd /system/framework/
chmod 777 framework-res.apk
Reboot your device( e.g. by using top menu->tools-ADB->reboot)
Set your background image and your (google/HtcSense) accounts anew.
Hope it helps you a bit on modding,
Greetings, brush2(Stephan)
error
hey man, Im getting an error on this. I changed my transitions effects ( folder anim on framework-res.apk) using the app metamorph. well, now every time I open an app the phone ( xt920) reboot. I ask my friend that have the same phone to send me his framework-res.apk. I try to replace using this method but dont got. I draged and droped the new apk and when I would type the shell's code the last code dont work because it said that the file is a "read-only system". What can I do to have my phone back? Please help.
Thanks.
Hello:
i tried to change my Bootanimation but with no Luck.
1. i tried to make a "theme" via Online Kitchen; got a file (about 6mb) flashed it via Recovery but Botscreen stayed at white "HTC-Briliant"
2. i tried to manualy delete the bootaniamtion.zip at /data/app/local with androidmate (free)--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10041079&highlight=bootanimation#post10041079
3. i tried to make my own update.zip ( http://www.londatiga.net/it/how-to-create-android-update-zip-package/)
script:
Code:
show_progress 0.1 0
copy_dir PACKAGE:data\app\local data\app\local:
show_progress 0.1 10
4. tried to change the bootimage.zip in NEO's Reflext.Rom by deleting all unneccesary stuf and changing the bootanimation-zip
--> got stuck after Recovery so i had to reflash the whole ROM..
--------------------------------------------
why i'm not able to change this bootanimation ?
can someone provide me a funktional Update-zip for this ROM
(or a HowTo for doing it myself?)
i would like to test these Bootimages:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648555
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905538 (android particle2)
PLEASE Help
EDIT: i also tried via
Terminal Emulator
- Connect your phone to your computer via USB
- Copy the downloaded file to your sdcard
- Disconnect phone from computer
- Open Terminal Emulator on your phone and enter the code below (press enter after every line)
su
cp /sdcard/480x800_AndroidGlow1.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip
reboot
Click to collapse
EDIT:
Try putting it into /system/customize/resource
thats where the bootanimation (and the boot sound..) was located on my desire rom.
tried this but:
1: i found no "resource" folder under /system/customize..
2. after creating this folder and copying bootanimation.zip nothing happens
it seems like NEO put it on a special place in his ROM so i cant't figure out..
Test this route: /system/etc/customer/bootanimation.zip ;-)
System/sd/app/local remplace the bootanimation.zip and reboot.
It worked !!
Thanks ASIER
the System/sd/app/local .. did the trick
why does neo uses this folder-structure.. weird ..
(and also thx to raa_ for his help)
does it make sense if i say, i don't have a /system/sd/app/local folder??? the sd part is nowhere to be found
any idea?
edit. found it on my Desire it was under /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
cheers
i think it depends on the ROM you are using!
i use the ReflextSense 1.7 from NEophyte.360
that uses the "unusual" path as postet before.
"normal" Sense ore SenseHD Roms are using different locations as you found out..
it is sad that there's not a standard-path for all roms !

are you sure youre on the system-"partition" ?
i first set the System to Read/Write in SPareparts and afterwards used ESData explorer (in the program you have to enable ROOT funktions..)
--> menu/settingsroot options --> mount filesystem
------
click on the button on the very left (sd-icon) and it should change into a "house"
the path should be a "/"
afterwards choose SYSTEM/SD/APP/Local
in this folder there should be bootanimation.zip, downanimation.zip, shutdown.zip and "placeholder"
hope it helps
I cant find my bootanimation.zip anywhere,Im using insertcoin 1.8f(trying to update to 1.8h with no luck )
this Thread describes Changing BOOTANIMATION in ReflextSense (1.7)
i think insertCoin uses an different Folder for Bootanimation.zip than this rom.
you could try one of these options:
get shure you hav read/write acces to your Root.. (as i described in de Posting before..)
search the "insert coin" thread for Bootanimation.zip
ask in the Thread about the neccesary "Path"
try to download a "change bootanimation" zip from online kitchen or from the forum..
apply the zip via Recovery and if it works !! ... open the zip and analyse the script file (which Path it uses..)
i hope it helps..

Hello XDA, I'm kind of new to ROMs etc. and would appreciate some help. I am trying to install mikegapinski's 2.3.7 ROM (v5) through fastboot and whereas in the past I have seen a boot.img and a system.img, there is a boot.img and a system folder. Is there a way to make the folder into a system.img file that I could flash onto my GT540?
In short, how do you make a system.img file out of a folder with system files in them?
hey there !
(system.img + boot.img) is for fastboot
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
and the (system folder + boot.img) is for recovery
use any recovery
select zip from sdcard
select the zip
i dont think you can convert the folder to a .img(or the other way around) . and if the rom you are talking about mike's aosp v5 then i wont recommend it as for now there are problems with the ram and so it becomes very laggy. i would recommend mur4iks swiftdroid asis but the choice is yours
I know you can 'extract' images using 'unyaffs' but I never made an image from a folder (except when dumping partitions). I think there is a way though.
If you have Linux on your PC, then you can use the 'yaffs' tool. Search it on Google.
This is how even AOSP compiles system folder into system.img

I got it. If you use Linux, you can create an iso file of the system folder, and then convert it to .img. Just follow it:
In a terminal(CTRL+ALT+T):
Code:
mkisofs -o /path/to/the/system/folder ~/system.iso
dd if=~/system.iso of=~/system.img
rm ~/system.iso
Your system.img will be on your home directory.
and it work's too ? (when you flash it from fastboot)

pls if you find a solutuon please pm me. And do you think flashing the system.img will solve booting probz?
suggestion
take a look at this url, and examine the zip file contained.
you could boot into cwm and install the zip (not suggesting, its what i did)
if u make a zip file in the same layout you could install your zip and it will update the system partition.
as you have a desire, heres whats required
on phone: place phone into fastboot mode
on computer: unzip to a folder , place the img file in such folder,
open a command prompt, (navigate to folder using the cd command)
and type: fastboot boot bravo-cwm.img
mount sd card, toggle usb storage, place your zip in root of sdcard.
then untoggle, go back, select option to install zip from sdcard.
choose select zip file.
find your zip.
tap on the file, and it will install...
you SHOULD by this point have an updated phone as you desired (lol)
if it does not work as you expected, have a look for a standard system.img for your phone, and put that into a zip
name the zip (i put it in caps, weather needed i dont know) PM99IMG.zip
place it into root of sdcard, and put phone into the first screen of recovery menu, the white screen.
it will analyze your zip and ask you to install, press up to flash and then the required option to reboot when its done to revert your phone back to normal.
hope this helps there buddy,
ill most likley forget to check back, so if u need any help pm me and ill see what i can do,
Is this working
