Nexus 7 not going into recovery. It just hangs at the Google screen
More information required.
I think i've really screwed up this nexus whole system. It is bricked.I can get into CWM recovery if i flash it. I cannot get it to stay though. On boot it just hangs at the google icon with the unlocked bootloader on the bottom. I'm a novice when it come to fastbooting and ADB. I'm still learning. I've downloaded the image file from google but it is in a .tar form. I'm not running linux and i suck at linux. This device just needs to be rebuilt from the ground up software wise.
Oh by the way I forgot to mention that i've been fllashing files for the last 2 hours. Don't really know if they are the right one either.
send it to me and ill fix it right up but can't guarantee ill send it back >.<
In all seriousness though, you should be extracting that stock image with a windows program like 7zip and then fastboot flashing the .img files. That's how I'd do it at least, there are probably other easier ways if you run linux or OSX.
Even if it's a .tgz file from Google
I think i got it
YAAAAAAAAAY I GOT IT. Jumping up and down like a little girl who just got a pony. I had to redownload the Nexus file from Google. First file was corrupt. Thank all of you for your help. I understant fastbooting a little better now. Live and learn.
You're more than a novice at fastboot / adb. Novice at computers and common sense period.
Thanks all of you? The whole 2 poeple ...with 1 asking for more info? LOL...glad you got it working tho.

Does a stock rom image for the continuum exist that can be flashed with Odin and not CWM? I dont think my phone is bricked cause I can get into the download and recovery screens. I just cant do anything from the recovery screen its stuck.
Im either gonna fix this or smash this phone to pieces. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lol, chill... I'll go on my computer now and share the link with you xP

Ok so I might not smash it but boy is this frustrating.
Thanks for your help lol =)))
Ive done some extensive searching and I havent found a single stock continuum rom for odin anywhere. So if you could create one or point me in the direction of where I could download one I would appreciate that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967165
Check that out.... Flash with Odin.. Then find (in the Continuum Android Development section) the DL17 update zip, and put that on your sdcard (named update.zip)...
Then you should be good to go...
However, i highly suggest you getting CWM working... Recovering is a lot easier with it... If you are having difficulty go log onto the IRC (http://webchat.freenode.net/) with the #Samsung-Continuum and i will help you out
You are my effin hero... All I needed was the kernel and it fired right up. Ill be keeping these files close cause Im sure Ill need them again.
Thank you!!!!
Justin
Lmao, no problem man.. haha.. Thank imnuts too for all of his development
BTW: If you stop by the IRC i will help you get cwm up and working.. Then you can flash themes, make backups, and flash my awesome Softkey Modifications
Any idea why I cant access data? Im on the phone with verizon but still no luck..
Also cant access the sd card from my pc and wifi on the phone will not connect..
Verizon is stumped they told me to take it back to the store for a replacement..
What a long day lol =)
Also voice service works I can make calls and send/receive text messages just no data. No 3g indicator.
Nevermind I got it figured out.. Everything is running normally with the DL17 clean rom.
Thanks again

Lol, with Nandroid backup, it makes a compleeeete backup of everything.... Which means it backs up your email logins, facebook logins, GOOGLE logins, everything... Which means they could buy apps on the market using your account..... Not good, lol..

oh ok, well either way i did the cwm before i entered in my information on the phone, but i see what you mean..give me a break i just woke up..lol, but do you think flashing clean roms and kernels might help him?
I have heard of a lot of reports from people that loose functionality of their radio and even more drastic problems after flashing some ODIN packages...
Now, i don't know which ODIN package is responsible, i know that bubby323 did make a faulty package, somewhere down the line..
ODIN is a last resort... Us here can get you up and working most of the time without even having to open up... ClockWorkRecovery is our friend
If you absolutely need to ODIN, What i suggest is going into the package with 7-zip, and checking whether or not there is a modem file... if there is, delete it... That's just my advise
Also, i have had a couple of reports of people getting fried from with CWM.... As of right now, i would tread lightly in there.... Backups and Restores should be fine, but don't do anything crazy in there If you do need to do anything does not require edify (3.0+) scripting, i suggest using the blue recovery...
This is all just my own personal opinions and such, do whatever you want
Thank you for the warning

How I Installed ICS on my Note
I had a lot of trouble getting ICS on my Note using my Mac. I gave up on Heimdall, and just ran Windows 7 in Bootcamp so I could flash directly rootable firmware to my Note using Odin. After that, I switched back to Mac OS X and used the whole zergRush exploit I found in the Galaxy Note wiki to root. Then I used Mobile Odin Pro to flash the ics repack, and finally cwm to flash the ics stunner beta. It took forever to get the whole thing set up, but it was worth it. if you have anymore questions just ask.
P.S. I still have no idea how to get Heimdall to work, sorry
this is bunch of bollocks....i dont have access to bootcamp cant run..it...also i saw that stunner rom that **** is really nice i like that one ...i may endup paying someone locally ...
this is what really irritates me with android the complexity of it all, if this was ios it would be a piece of piss and work on both sides, no disrespect to the devs on here but if the yanks where doing all the dev work for android it would be simpler ,but as its the europeans doing most of the dev work it seems like hard work again, no disrespect to the guys i appreciate their work whole heartedly

Is using a Toolkit inadvisable?
Not unless you want to learn how android tinkering really works.
Toolkits are just more difficult to get out of trouble of. You'll then have to learn how to tinker anyway so why not learn that first?
If you follow efrant's guides you will have come a long way.

Thing is I'm in a hotel at 5:30am trying to fix my phone! I tried using a toolkit to flash stock google files and it didnt work I received a bunch of errors. I am now downloading a stock ROM hopefully will be able to push the files to it then flash like that. I honestly just want my phone up and running again.
Google pulled the factory images so Toolkit probably can't download them.
You can download image file from here

Don't use a toolkit man. You're already in enough trouble and I can't post enough how imperative it is to know these things. There are so many user errors made because people are flashing and doing things without knowing what's going on.
I feel that toolkit is just awful. It's letting people cheat. Flashing roms and kernels are a reward you get for passing the test on doing a simple fast boot oem unlock and then flashing a recovery.
Just do what the people above said in regards to efrants guide. Follow it step by step and you'll be back on stock rom.

Then the other problem comes when they come in the forums and starts complaining on why their phone didn't boot up. Or they stupidly send in a RMA request pretending that they don't know what happened to their phone.
If people can't spend those 5 minutes learning a simple command, not even learning it but preparing the environment for fastboot. Which is so easy because you follow a step by step, it's a checklist for what you need to do. Then they shouldn't be flashing anything. If they have the time to look for a rom and kernel then they have the time to do that fastboot.
Eventually they will have to do it so they should stop avoiding the inevitable and learn it before they do it. But I'm sure there's a percentage out there who doesn't and uses the toolkit without ever getting into problems but I'm sure a number of them are quite rare.
@el daddy: yeah I saw that thread on gn. Quite nice and I always felt that way just never made a post about it (actually just talked about it right above about rma... Refers back to your non Nexus point on why they're more strict) I'd say go for it man. Can't stress this enough, wish that toolkit would just be banned but it won't be.

It's on what Samsung gave it, 2.1 Eclair, and it's slow as hell. Right now, it powers off following boot, not sure why, but I looked into Odin-ing, lots of dead links, and Windows 7 in Parallels doesn't detect it in Downloading.... Mode, so I think I need a legit PC.... I won't be revisiting this for at least a few days, no rush, but thanks for thee replies!

I suggest reading the forum. There are some different themes, mods and tweaked roms for each build level. Some are complete other not so much so reading is essential so you don't brick your phone.
Here is a good place to start. the Odin file here downloads and is what I use. Some of the links are broken if they are ask and someone should be able to fix the link or get you the file directly. (I have folders dedicated to the two builds I have worked from either ec09 or eg04).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316769
and another in case you ever decide to take the leap to eg04, the program here is essential for changing softkeys.
