[Q] Touch key backlight notification not working / gapps - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hi all,
I very recently added a Galaxy Note to my collection, coming from an SGS. I did the latest July 4th nightly install, following the instructions to the letter. I have a couple of questions though :
- Although I did the factory wipe (once again, followed the instructions to the letter) after installing gapps, I had none of the gapps installed. So I just installed gmail, gmaps manually, and stuff seems to be working (calendar is synching). Is that a big deal? Expected to happen? I tried March and April versions of gapps, each time doing a full wipe and reflashing the lot...
- Second point, also confusing. On my SGS my buttons to and from the home key (touch key backlight) light up when I get a missed call or received an email. On the Note, the settings are identical, i.e. to notify of any incoming email. The sound notification works fine, so does the icon at the top of the taskbar, however my buttons don't light up. Any idea why? And how I can fix this? It's such a useful feature...
Hopefully those two items are not related, but I don't know for sure...
Many thanks,
Tony

Well I think I have the response for one of my questions :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698175
My apologies for not seeing this. I did do a search but only just found this post.
It looks light the CM9 ROM has the option of backlighting the touch keys, supports it well on SGS, but hasn't bothered integrating it in the kernel for the Note, unless I'm mistaken.
I guess this means my questions aren't related.

I believe you are looking for backlight notifications, BLN, which makes the keys blink when a new message, missed call or a mail has arrived... Correct?
It depends on what kernel and rom you use. The kernel must include BLN and must work with the rom you are using.
I put out a bounty for the person bringing BLN to my Note in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749078
There's only a very few kernels with BLN
Feel free to back me up in my thread

Colored Trackball Notifications?

I'd like to take advantage of the colored notifications for different events like SMS, e-mail, missed calls, etc. Is there a good, reliable (hopefully free) app that I can use to set the different colors? I tried Blink, and it was very finicky and didn't really work (it kept resetting itself back to white). Are there any other options out there that work?
Trackball Alert
/Thread
Trackball alert (free or donate version) does what you want. Only problem is it doesn't work with CM6. Works moDaco's r21 though.
i tried blink too. and it just don't work for me.
is your n1 rooted? if yes, look for trackball alert or trackball alert pro. both are very good and reliable program.
DUDE, are you serious? ALWAYS search first (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9q2jNjOPdk).

Look at the first "APP" result.

Trackball alert pro works with cm6 rc2
My Nexus one is not rooted. What works with that?
sms popup works for SMS trackball changing.

Calm down there buddy. People posting responses such as yours and not even including valid help to follow it (your link does not produce any results) is just as bad if not worse than "those that do not search first".
Here... allow me to post what you should have said instead...
"The stock ROM does not allow you to manually change the trackball notification colors for your apps (unless it happens to be a feature that a developer built-in specifically for such app). But there are apps such as Blink or Trackball Alert that will let you change your notification color.
Also, keep in mind that this topic has been covered in this forum many times before. So if you hadn't tried the search feature before posting this, please keep it in mind for the future."
There, that sounds much better...
And for the rest of you "SEARCH FIRST OMGWTFBBQ!" nazis, let's not forget that xda has over 440,000 threads and almost 6.5 MILLION POSTS. Searching for something as common as trackball colors or notifications or alerts also generates tons of ROM development threads, generic update threads, etc. So stop listening to the whispers of your LOLCATS and get back to the reality that we are all human and are here to help each other respectfully.

Thank you. I did search first, but "colored trackball notification" turned up a ton of stuff, a lot of which I could hardly see any relevance in.
I tried the Blink app with little success, and from what I can tell Trackball Alert only works on rooted phones with certain custom ROMs.
Are there any apps similar to Blink, except that actually work, that don't require your phone to be rooted? I'm going to wait for my warranty to expire before I root my phone.

I am not aware of any other apps except Blink that do what you are looking for. But I also haven't done much looking for one. Any time I've seen the question come up, Blink and Trackball Alert seem to be the answer 99% of the time. So I would assume that Blink is going to be your main/only option for now.

Blink is about it for unrooted. It completely works fine for me (stock frf91 not rooted). It will only blink the notify colors when the device is off. In addition, I added the free app 'gmail notifier' for Email notifiy color (since Blink has no setting for email notifies).
I believe Blink only works if you don't change the frequency setting for the notifications. If you just change the color it seems to work fine.
Also I would suggest that you can now Root your phone without actually unlocking the bootloader and voiding the warranty.
In one of the beta releases of Froyo, there was a security gap which grants root access even if the bootloader is still locked. The process isn't that hard. It does involve cutting a portion of a tab off of your battery for best results (its useless anyway).
Unfortuneately you have to go back to the latest Eclair build, update to FRF72, then FRF85. There is a thread in the ROMs forums with very detailed step by step instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710842
And a really good STOCK like rooted DEODEXED rom that is ready for anything without all the bloat that I really like, even has a white stock-like taskbar or a black themed taskbar:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714184
Trackball Alert Pro is just a little over $3.00 USD and it's worth it.
The only thing that sucks is that you gotta wait 30mins for goggle to validate before you install.
Blink works great on my Nexus One running Froyo 2.2 (not rooted).
However, changing the frequency settings have no effect at all over trackball blinking speed (Normal = Very Fast). Blink is also missing an option to change the LED color on new e-mail notification. It blinks in standard white color. But yeah... I can perfectly live with that!

I use Blink as well on my Nexus and I have the same experience as you. Great little app.
If you want free Gmail color notifications, try Gmail Notifier(Froyo version). It's in the market and it's free and is solid as a rock. It never stops running and always works and has all the color options.
I'm using this app called 'Missed Call' on my stock N1 (2.2) and it just works fine.
It seems that with a combination of Blink and Gmail Notifier I've set up my notifications to an acceptable level. I wish Froyo had it natively with options for ALL notifications. Hopefully they'll add that in a future update.
Thank you for all your help and suggestions!
With as much time as I spend lurking here and cyber stalking Team Douche, I should probably know this, so I'll bury my stupid question on page two of a thousand threads on trackball notifications - Why were they included in CM5 but not CM6? I assume it was something Google "fixed" that made it unpossible?

[REF] Desire Z - OTA 1.72 for those without root etc

Hi
This thread is about the new 1.72 OTA update for anyone who hasn't rooted, s-off'd etc.. Its for discussing changes, improvements, new bugs and such like. As there is no official change list, note it down and we'll get there.
If you own, or have questions about the G2, this is not applicable, the software is different. This is for the Stock Desire Z as shipped. Thanks!!
Downloaded over WLAN and it installed in about 10 mins and several reboots. If you can, try hard reset as its been reported this helps with the SMS notification bug.
My observations (UK SIM free):
New Android build (2.2.1)
New Kernel (2.6.32.21-g540976a Dec 1st)
New Radio (12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2)
Fixes:
Battery life better (mixed reports, but probably slightly better)
Rear speaker louder (again, needs to be tested in the wild)
Wireless LAN seems a lot quicker
Camera application improved.. (Stuttering improved when recording 720p Thanks, monomer888 & tbalden)
Snappier / Smoother menu transitions
More characters in hardware SYM list (like < and > )
Annoying Text message bug seems better but not solved (type screen jumps down as msg's load)
The delivery receipt now shows the contact name instead of the phone number. (Thanks missparker76)
Adding linked (Phone + Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) contacts to groups (e.g. Favorites) now works - they appear in the list of contacts when trying to add them. (Thanks Darthmelk)
BUGS:
SMS notifications.. Occasionally doesn't notify, sometimes cant dismiss until you go to the notification screen (Thanks Algobardo) HTC are aware..
Its lost my notification settings, sounds, volumes but that easy to put back. Kept themes, backgrounds, widgets and most other settings.
[RESOLVED] HTCSense.com not connecting to phone. Messages and Contacts still sync but unable to get location, lock or ring phone.
Slightly increased lag when rotating sense (Thanks knoeki )
Gallery showing unviewable files as a broken icon, sometimes not updating (Thanks moolash)
Changes:
New Dock menu item in settings?? (I thought it was new too Darthmelk)
LinkedIn and Picasa updates are either included, or working properly now. (Thanks Darthmelk)
Discuss!!
Craig
HTC said something about camera improvements, notice anything there ?
Erm, there seems to be more settings to play with. Maybe a bit quicker to focus and flash timing improved..
And it fixed my menu button

It wouldn't work... The phone would vibrate when I pressed it but nothing would appear, although the one on the keyboard would open the menu
Got me scared at first... thought it was a faulty phone
I think there's a new "Dock" option in Settings, to start the Car Panel automatically when the phone is mounted in a holder. Was it there before? Probably there are lots of very small bug-fixes we don't notice.
Battery seems as bad as always for now (using push and 2hr syncs), the hardware keyboard still doesn't have the romanian symbol "ă" when long-pressing "a". Btw, is there a way to install other languages for the hardware keyboard? I only get English.
after the ota mine has a quite annoying problem.
When i read a sms message the notification on top doesn't disapper unless i access the messaging application through the notification itself.
Anyone with the same problem ?
Suggested solutions ?

Confirmed.. Thats annoying. [EDIT] SOMETIMES!!!! Its now working.
It did it for me initially when I got the phone with stock 1.34 but never did it again.. Maybe its while it refreshes / builds the back end database.
Just now I sent about 4 messages (from external devices) where it would not dismiss or in one case not even notify!! But i've sent about 10 now that work flawlessly every time.
Maybe worth clearing all the messages out after upgrading. Its clear they've been working on the SMS app as I don't get the jumping text box any more

I think you need to change your locale to ro_RO (Romanian (Romania).

Cant say I've every had that one! perhaps a bad flash from factory or a hangover from rooting??
Thanks
Craig
Ive had that annoying notification bug (Hi, 1 week into desire z ownership btw), and I have definitely had messages without notification too. Does seem to be a bit random tho. Will see how it goes. Otherwise, it's a pretty good phone. Nice to see a section with ppl who don't root the lives outta their phones, i'm trying really hard not to for a while if i can, as you just end up changing things and re-setting everything up on a weekly basis else, and i've had enough of all that.

Nope, that will only change all the text into Romanian, but it will not add a Romanian hardware keyboard option (so no "ă" character when long-pressing "a").

At last - I'm not going mad - mine does this too after the OTA update - it's really really annoying. It's actually worse than described, because if you clear the notification by dragging the notification bar, any future SMS messages will *not* actually be alerted - no sound, no notification icon, no notification button number.
We need a fix...
I don't have this problem. If I get a new SMS, I can slide to the SMS widget and the notification clears instantly (but the SMS is still unread until I get to the SMS app, of course). If I clear the notification after dragging down the notification screen, I will get a new notification when a new SMS arrives.
"When i read a sms message the notification on top doesn't disapper" - where do you read the SMS if not inside the SMS app?
As i've previously posted, I haven't had the no notification or clear problem since.. I've been sending and receiving messages so it seems to clear itself. I use the messaging app from a shortcut.
See if it just clears by itself..
Yeah, ok. If it persists, I may use SMS Backup and clear out the database and start afresh. It is behaving at the moment...
Anyone notice the new teardrop caret/cursor when moving the cursor in a text input box?
Also, camera is still pants compared with my old Desire and the update doesn't seem to have done anything to improve quality.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I got this for Xmas, I openen the box and before playing around with 1.34 that came with it I installed the OTA 1.72.
I am amazed, have no bugs to complain about. I do not see a reason to get root or so. Sense is fine, I love it.
I came from WM, pretty many tweak skills, but i don't need tweaking any yet.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I have definitly noticed issue with sms notification too ... Undoubtly there is something wrong and it triggers just sometimes.
Another thing which may have changed is in menu where you choose your ring tone - I think there wasnt option to choose any mp3 from your phone. I had have to google some instructions how to do it which involved copying mp3 to the specific folder.
Yeah, updated fine all seems good, only thing to complain about is the SMS problems, doesnt even let me know i got a text most the time.
Tried factory reset erasing everything ect nothing helps
Just have to wait for a fix then i guess...

[CM7]Honeycomb/CM tablet tweaks [tt.RC2] 07.04.2011#2

Looks like there's another GB w/TabTweaks...I tried it...didn't notice too much difference...but I didn't give it a full run because Corwin's works so well for me...but I will try it out next week. (going skiing in Mammoth this weekend )

From Nook Color Thread
------------------------------------------------------
Mod has been merged to CM7
This will be in each official cm7 nightly build now starting with nightly 37 onwards... even phone users will have parts of the tweaks in their options
About
This is work-in-progress of adding highly needed tablet options to cm7 before it gets stable. Once done, it will be merged and this thread used for further development.
Most ideas are inspired or directly taken from the functionality, google added to honeycomb. Thanks to the long discussion and great feedback of this community - without you, this mod wouldnt be that good at all.
tt.RC2?
its RC2 of tablet tweaks. if i had just called it RC2, people would have asked if it includes CM7 RC4 over and over.
This SHOULD be bugfree. if it is, the sources will be merged to cm sources very soon. this thread will stay open for further development. its not yet over i want to add more stuff - but to catch the cm7 stable release, we cannot include every feature right now.

all mods can be found in settings->cm settings->tablet tweaks
List of modifications (green = new since last build)
Toggle status bar top/bottom via cm settings. Changes position on the fly when setting is toggled.
Moved carrier and power notifications to bottom for bottom bar
Created "Tablet tweaks" menu in cm-settings root to gather all tablet related options in one place
Extended power menu with home/menu/back buttons. toggable on the fly via cm settings
Custom volume-long-press events (home/back/menu/call/end call/search/start-stop-music/next track/prev track/longpress home)
Added same options for both-volume-buttons press and long-press
Fixed status bar xml, so soft buttons now appear as big as the .png file is.
Solved issue about soft buttons not clickable. Their size is now determined smart by the real size of the buttons
Added option to move soft-buttons left or right
Added submenu to choose which soft buttons to display.
Added Quick-Notification-Area-Soft-Button - instantly opens/closes notification area since swiping it open is a long way on tablets
Added a Dead-Zone option, so the middle of the status bar is not clickable. Happend a lot before people click it when trying to hit space
New graphics from Drakknar in extended power menu - thanks!
Added option to toggle extended power items seperatly
Added option to reverse power button behavior (switch short-press with long-press action)
Cleaned up the options and created new submenu
complelty rewrote volume button handling to handle all our new demands
integrated Drakknars great new design and wrote code for it
lotsa tiny fixes / bugfixes
Added option to disable/override fullscreen
Added option to disable lockscreen
Disabled the animated text for ongoing notifications when softbuttons enabled. this "ticker" did hide the soft buttons for a short while
Used same status bar size for nook color than for vega now. buttons should be bigger and not stretched this way. awaiting complaints about status bar too big
added hdpi icons for resized statusbar via overlay for vega and encore this way, status bar items dont look blury anymore
added search button to list of soft-buttons - its off by default
added long-press to home, back and search soft-button
extended fullscreen handling: when a fullscreen app is running, an additional
hide-softbutton is displayed. once pressed, the app gets real fullscreen
added option to choose unhide button for fullscreen
improved hide-button handling for special situation, like app-starting-app (i.e. astro file mananger starting movie player, which does fullscreen request) and more
Bugfix release #1
Bugfix release #2 (aka tt.RC1) removed volume remapping for cm7stable, because source of too many possible bugs considering all the uses of volume buttons + lockscreen disable + reverse
code cleanup - moved most stuff to Cm classes (CmSystem, CmPhoneWindowManager, CmStatusBarView, CmButtonTracker) - am satisfied with the code now
improved fullscreen overriding in Window class. not only setFlags, but also setAttributes is intercepted now
modified stock terminal emulator, so it doesnt crash the system anymore, when disable-fullscreen is selected
further improved fullscreen handling after all feedback i got. RC2 and probably merge ready code
Where is the volume remapping?
Its disabled for cm7 stable release. it will be re-enabled in cm71 nightlies. The reason is simple: its a very BIG source of possible bugs. we got volume buttons to silence phone calls, to control mp3's when screen is off, we got lockscreen disabling and we got reverse behavior of volume buttons - this is toooo much in the short time left until cm7 stable - i dont wanna be the dude who is responsible for an unstable release.
Tips
to use back long-press, go to settings->applications->development->stop-app-via-long-press
to use search long-press go to settings->cm settings->input->search-key-behavior
Nook only: If Bluetooth does not turn on, power off the nook color and turn it back on. Do not select reboot from the power menu. This is not connected to my modifications, but a often discovered cm problem on nook color. Thanks to KitF for this hint.
A better task manager? install free "task switcher" from market. on next home click, select adw as usual as standard home action. go to settings->cm settings->input->long-press home settings - select use custom application. as application, select task switcher. if you long press home now, you get a nice task switcher with recent apps instead of the build in solution.
Nook only: Have to enable wifi on each boot? http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=1310
bugs to fix
all bugs should be fixed with RC2 - details at http://kan.gd/3vb
List of known, unfriendly apps
Note: these apps break google's API in one or another way, and so are not compatible with our fullscreen handling. hopes are, they get fixed for honeycomb, and then work here, too
Clock and calendar popups: Handle fullscreen theirself - and fail!
Kindle App: Handles fullscreen itself without request - and fails!
pocket legends: does not resize when hide status bar is executed
quick office / quick office HD: overrides fullscreen handling - does it itself and fails.
cnn news app - also handles fullscreen "its own way" and fails - hides statusbar in any way
power amp - has problems with bottom status bar
Whats next?
hopefully merging this night.
Disclaimer
I am not a cook. I am a cyanogenmod dev and member of teamdouche. i dont intend to build roms, once this project is merged to cm-sources. i only do this openly for two reasons: for one, i think, feedback improves code quality. Second, its not much time until cm7stable - i need as many testers as i can get so this will get bugfree.
Credits
Thanks to Drakknar, who did all the graphics involved. Again, he did great work. I love team-working with him. We already did the new lockscreens.
Thanks to Samuel Halff <[email protected]>, who not only inspired all this, but also did a rough first version of bottom status bar. Without his initial work on the idea and on the CM-Crew (telling us, this is absolutly needed), this patch wouldnt exist.
Thanks to the Nook Color community, for mental support, feedback and the help on getting a tablet for me. Without it, i couldnt do this at all.

Hello spiders
my real name is sven dawitz and i hope, mentioning this here, shows up this thread above all the disgusting ultimate droid links on my google results
This project has been merged in to CM now and is part of nightly build 37.
I just flashed this over a nightly and everything seems to work except the Market won't open. It flashes up for a second and then closes automatically with no error or force close message. Anyone else experience this?

You probably have to reload gapps and start over...it happened to me when I went between this and Corwin's
Been using this about 24 hours and Gtablet really performs well with this ROM. Also just flashed my Nook Color with nightly 37 and it seems to be good too. Been using this ROM on my Nook for about 4 days and really loving it, especially the bottom notification bar with soft buttons.
Does anyone know if Pershoot's kernel could or should be used with this CM7 ROM? Would it improve performance and/or other things??

ive had great luck... havnt had a single complaint.
So all I have to do is install the rom from the gtab link... or is this in addition to something?
Also pqrs, what wifi widget is that?
How did you flash this? Did you do all the wiping data, cache, dalvik cache,,,then install like normal and then the gapps? I did that and it is a great rom but noticed my tab would shut off when it sleep for a few mins and i had to reboot??

Working so far...
I have the latest build running with Clemsyn's kernel 9 (I hate dealing with loadable kernel modules). The tablet is running real nice right now.
The only way I got this on my gTab was to nvflash back to original, blowing away CWM in the process, reload CWM, use Calkulin's format to clear away the nasty Tap'nTap stuff, then load the ROM, reboot, load the kernel (clearing cache and Davlik cache), reboot, the finally flash GAPPS to it.
I don't know enough to tell you why I had to do this. I was coming from Vegan5.1.1 originally and no GB ROM would flash properly (got stuck at Android screen - always, with AOSP Vanilla, G-Harmony 2.2, and this CM nightly) until I hit upon the sequence above.
Everything seems to be working so far... the minor bumps (like GAPPS installing everything but GMail) have cleared after reboots.
So no weird reboots or wifi problems?

i came from vegan 7 so maybe it was an easy transition? i didnt have any of the trouble flashing that as others have... i just did the normal wiping and it worked great. gingerbread roms havnt been any different for me to flash?
the wifi widget is called wifi signal widget. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cls.wificls&feature=search_result
my online market even works, i can send apps to my tablet with this rom! thats a bonus to me...
Murdock's work has been merged in and now in the CM7 nightlies
There is a minor bug with the cyanogenmod website, however. If you navigate to the standard download locations, you won't see anything available. The url has the name viewsonic instead of the device codename harmony. Click on harmony on the left side list and you'll find the gTab CM7 nightly build.
I have not been having any issues, although some people have reported that there are issues with sdcard mounting and some FCs if they change the theme. I've kept the theme stock.
My only complaint is a bug that seems to be in CM7 at the moment where when waking up from sleep you need to start the WiFi again manually. Also, I'm not sure how to get a tun.ko module for this build.
wifi doesn't work... at all. it connects, but nothing works. flashed twice after full wipes, nothing. doesn't make much sense to me... has ANYONE had this happen? i went back to vegan 5.11 and poof -- no more issues.
Is hardware acceleration for Flash enabled on this ROM?
I came over from the Nook (Encore) not so long ago and only software-based rendering was possible there, so I am wondering is thing are better on the Harmony front.
Been running this for about 5 days. Best rom for me so far. Loaded pershoots kernel and cifs module. Perfect.

[Q] Notification Light

Is it possible to, like the small little notification led, make the smartphone's buttons (home, search, back and options(?)) (or even just one button, if the respective drivers allow it) stay on when there's a pending notification?
I saw this on a friend's LG 2X and he told me that was a customization made by someone in a custom ROM, so that wasn't a stock feature.
I think this will be, if it's doable, an awesome extra feature since the led is too much tiny to capt our attention to the pending notification and I imagine it's not very hard to implement.
Thanks in advance.
Try screen filter. There is a option to turn light off.
Kernel support for BLN won't be possible.
However, you can always use Missed Message Flasher, it will do what you want, just make sure to set it for 100ms duration or something around that, otherwise it will also flash the screen, not just the buttons.

[Q] How to fix anoyances with Note 3/Touchwiz

I'm have slight buyers remorse, but I have a few more days till I can't return it for a full refund. I hoping to find out if any of the issue I have with the Note 3 or more accurately touchwiz will be able to be solved. I'm coming from a history of running customs ROMS on my galaxy S1 and galaxy S2, most of the time cyaogenmod. Lucky I find touchwiz has improved but here are my over all gripes:
Can't change the vibration pattern for notifications, most importantly text messages and emails. You can create customs patterns but they are only for calls. This is my biggest problem right now. And the fact that clearing a message from the notification bar doesn't mark it as read is annoying.
I would love on screen buttons, with this much screen restate it's a great phone for on screen buttons, I also find getting low enough to press the capacitive buttons with my thumb and still holding the phone a bit difficult and I think I would have no trouble if there was on screen buttons. - SoftKey Enabler, requires root- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fatedevgroup.softkeyenabler&feature=search_result
Home buttons wakes the phone - Fixable by mod or wanam http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477150
Double home press open magazine - Settings in Magazine, gesture disable can be done by freezing magazine in titanium
Replace S Voice with google voice. - Freeze with titanium then use double tap to get to google voice
Remove all toggles from notification area, have all the toggles in the toggle pane
Remove the persitant icons from the task bar (blocking mode, smart stay, NFC)
All logs in phone log - fixable with app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsung.log.converter.ics
I really got used and liked the pop up/quick message window option that cyaogenmod had. I would like that along with the removal of chat bubbles.
I also liked black/Holo design, I sure this can and will come some how. Also we'll see how kitkat ends up looking...
How likely is it that my gripes with touchwiz can be fixed, yet still stay on touchwiz framework due to not wanting to lose functionality? I am aware it will require root and most likely a custom ROM, but if I was able to start out with just some modifications to stock rom, that might be a good start. I might find out but 1-4 are my biggest complaints. I love the note 3's hardware, but I'm hoping the roms/touchwiz won't push me toward the nexus 5....
One additional question, all these model numbers are confusing as hell. I have the N900W8, will that hinder my ability to use custom roms? Is it an equivalent to another model number? (X-Note is the only roms I've seen so far the explicitly says its compatible with the 900W8)

All suggestions welcome.
Edited with solutions in blue. I haven't tried them yet
If you open Magazine and hit menu, then choose Settings, you can turn the double home press off from in there.
The swipe from the bottom gesture can't be disabled short of doing something like freezing Magazine with Titanium Backup.

A fwlew of these things are easily fixed with xposed wanam module. You need to be rooted though. As for Google voice, freeze svoice (maybe you can just clear defaults, but I froze it) then when you double tap home, you'll be given options in what you want that to do.
