Mastercard ONLY
I would REALLY like to use it and in fact was looking forward to doing just that until I found out you can only use Mastercard with the stupid thing? I mean wtf, I don't want to have to use my MC to purchase crap, who does this, unless you're trying to get cash back or freq-flier miles? The pre-paid card from what I understand is bogus too? Why would I go to the trouble of funding a " virtual" credit card with money from my Mastercard so I can use my phone at McD's?
Now, if there was a way I could somehow fund all my purchases with my debt card? THATS what I was hoping to be able to do? I would think there'd be a way to do that but out of all I've read so far, nothing sounds promising? Does somebody know of a way around the Mastercard limitation?

Its not just ANY MC either.. it has to be theirs.. the Citi one.
and was really disapointed in the Loyalty card selection as well.. no grocery stores or drug stores or any other useful ones.
Yea I would have thought this would have really expanded fast, not at the snails-pace that it seems. I mean wallet has been around for a long time, at least a lot of my e-purchases are recognised as "wallet" transactions
i used it this am at Circle K for a fountain drink and some chips .... I just rooted and flashed a rom hoping it will work again this evening

It may be because you are rooted? I get the same message.
I added $20 to the virtual card and look forward to trying it as soon is bearable to go outside!
If rooted this is what it will look like. This is normal, it will still work.

I used mine at McDonalds today, they were like "whoa, wtf? That's awesome!" They had never seen it before. Pretty simple though, once your card is setup, you wait till the point where you would swipe your card, tap the phone to the NFC reader, it'll prompt you for your pin, and then you tap it to the reader one more time, and voila!

I had the update loop after installing an OTA update from sprint. I just cleared the app data and uninstalled updates for google wallet and it started working again.
Hopefully they will add more card options soon. If I could use my visa debt card it would be awesome but for now I don't see the point in transfering money to the google card just so I can use my phone to pay.

ATT here too, and nope, still not working ootb.
I'm in no rush, though, as there's still so very few places to use it (even in NYC), and I'm not about to putz around getting a rooted version working and risk getting it banned for life or whatever. This crap "should just work", but it doesn't.
(and I even have the damn citibank MC card that everyone complains you need to use, and I still don't care. (It was also lame that Citibank renamed their diamond preferred MC to the boring "ThankYou Points" Mastercard a few months back)

It's only a "flop" because the banks and carriers have all decided to create their own competing systems, not Google's fault they think we'll pay extra for NFC payments

It's been a while since I've seen a definitive thread on Hulu and galaxy s.
Here's a good thread from the fascinate with clockworkmod zip and a .apk install. Works just fine on the Vibrant, sometimes you have to close the background process of the hulu app.
Hulu streams quite smoothly on the vibrant too!

What he means is data throttle. All the wonderful sim-lock carriers in the US is capped at 5gb of data. If you exceed 5gb, then you'll be throttled slower than dialup. Technically its unlimited, but throttled.

It's the networks (crying about DRM) who are holding it up, not Hulu.
Hulu did announce last month official support for Android is coming soon.
Hulu's marketing team understands that just fine. The people who don't are the old school content companies that own it(Comcast/NBC, Disney/ABC, News Corp, etc.). They still think that by locking down their content, it will force people to keep paying out the arse for it, rather than just pushing more people away.

Thier up-coming free android app will be (i assume) for their Hulu+ line up. Which is their paid $7.99/mo service. I will also assume that Hule has no desire to reslease their free website for the Android browser to watch shows, because they see Google TV as a competitor not a platform. Yet, I built my windows box hooked to my hi-def TV and can watch streaming Hulu content all day long through my windows box (i cut my cable about a year ago). Microsoft is not pay Hulu one nickle, but Google TV (android) is seen as a competitor!
To answer you question, NO - Hulu is not free on your android device, unless you can find a hack to watch it.

When 21 rogue apps started siphoning off identifying information from Android phones and installing security holes, Google yanked the lot from Android Market, and called the authorities to boot. But what of the 50,000 copies already downloaded by unwitting users? That's what Google's dealing with this week, by utilizing Android's remote kill switch to delete them over the air.
But that's not all, because this time the company isn't just removing offending packages, but also installing new code. The "Android Market Security Tool March 2011" will be remotely added to affected handsets to undo the exploit and keep it from sending your data out, as well as make you wonder just how much remote control Google has over our phones. Yes, we welcome our new Search Engine overlords and all that, so long as they've got our best interests at heart, but there's a certain irony in Google removing a backdoor exploit by using a backdoor exploit of its own -- even one that (in this case) will email you to report what it's done.

Im sure if you were on the receiving end with a malware infested phone you'd be thanking google for remotely fixing your phone, i guess only when they start abusing that power will people get annoyed and demand change.
I guess that the end justifies the means in this case...
Yeh I'm fine with that. I doubt Google will abuse this feature- look at the negative backlash that Amazon had for remotely deleting from customers Kindles.

I'm not quite sure about that!, but well i'm probably too much old school, maybe a bit paranoid or conservative =).
The "For your own good", never sound well to my hears, anyway don't be surprise if Microsoft start doing that, one day, on your personal desktop/laptop.
Starting slow by removing trojan apps and one day, choosing what you have to use or not without your consentment?...not really GNU/GPL.
Google already know, who you are, which face you have (ty the front camera ^^), who are your friend, where you live, who you call, your habits etc... a way to much in one hand.
"Don't be Evil" they said (i'm still laughing on that)
I don't see anything wrong with this, and I think if Google ever decides to use this function for 'evil' it will get so much bad rep, that it's just not worth it.
How do you know they see all those things? Android is open source, and I doubt the Android-versions that is sent to the OEM's has these spy-code inside. Don't think they would agree with that, because of potential lawsuits and problems, e.g. EU-related problems.
I don't mind at all.. They have the power on Chrome too, and they never abuse it. I trust Google, I just woudn't trust Apple.
OP, Google already have your gmail, contacts, coordinates, search history, credit card number, and God only knows what else. This tiny little thingie won't change anything. However, they'd better remotely install Gingerbread on my phone, lol.

Unrealwolf, most of my data are fake: google account, no contact, neither sync, and no way i'll give my credit card number/real name or more.
But hey let's see how it'll go (the result in a couple of years will not be a surprise for me)
Microsoft did install a 'Malicious Software Removel Tool'. And have updates that are installed silently (but that happens very rarely).
And through the normal update process they can install everything they want.
personal info already leak out to everywhere since you born, do you have a mobile, in a school, bank account, visa, diving license, etc... just live with it.

Is it really the first time that Google installed things remotely? At least they updated apps without interaction on my mobile. And these updates can contain any code they want. So who saves you from Trojans that come inside, say, Maps? Also, some devs showed that apps can install other apps without the user even notices that (I think there was a malicious angry birds app)

Google has already an app with root and net access on the phone: the Market (or the services behind). Otherwise they could not install or uninstall anything on the phone. And yes, market is able to install without notifying the user. But if they're doing this well and encrypt the communication, no hacker should be able to use this feature to break into your phone.

does it work if n7 bought in usa and exported to eu?

If you reset the device and changee mail you get 20$ again?

I've having the issue too - only seems to be an issue with apps from certain devs. I've emailed the author of the app to see what's app. I'll post my finding when they reply...
I'm still able to purchase most apps with the credit without issue though.

Ha! The author of the apps that I can't seem to purchase responding saying they they don't know why and basically told me to contact Google to find out why. I politely responded that *they* should contact Google - not me! Like I told them, they are the ones that are losing the sale here!
Not real encouraged by their "customer service", so I probably won't buy their apps anyway now!
By the way, the apps that I cannot seem to buy are from "Elecont Software" - the particular app that I wanted to buy was "eRadar HD". I'll just look for alternatives now....

That's the same app I was trying to buy! Ended up buying it with real money anyways, and it's a great radar app.
Do you guys know where the dev lives by any chance? I was trying to buy an app from a guy in Barcelona, Spain and he was guessing it had something to do with Google not having all of their payment services up and running there. If he is correct then yes, it isGoogle problem that the devs can't fix.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Actually, I think I "mis-interpreted" the authors reply... After telling them politely that I think *they* should contact Google, they replied again stating that they have been trying to contact Google about this issue without any response and just figured that I, as a customer, may get a reply. Then, they even gave me their "main" app for free (gave me a redemption code to register it to the full version for free) in order to compensate me for my time in trying to get to the bottom of this issue. Their "main" app is titled "Eweather HD, Radar HD, Quakes" and actually costs $5.99! So, they made it worth it for me to contact Google!
So, I did just that - I've emailed Google support about the issue - I'll report my findings.

I think Nova Launcher and a widget can offer more than jailbreaking an iPhone.

Try out the F-Droid app store.
It has a respectable collection of FOSS applications which might be something you'd want.

You make a good point here - Google is certainly 'buying' out data and information. They are not in the cell phone making business - rather, they are in the data and analytics business.
Did you think Google was making and selling Nexus devices this cheap just out of the goodness of their own hearts?
A Nexus device is sold at a significant cost reduction that is subsidized by Google for a reason. In today's day and age, if you truly value your privacy, I'd recommend canceling your internet package and surfing the web form your local library. Aside from that, someone is always watching what you're doing - Google or otherwise.

Well then Toss all all credit cards, all shopping cards, Cancel the internet and dont make phone calls. All of these things do the same thing google does. IT has been happening for years and will continue to happen as long as we allow it. Removing some google apps may help a little but it is nothing in the long run.

People, stop being mod edit
You can replace Gmail with just the stock email app. No trouble there.
There are third party market apps. Forgot what the name is, but it's decent as long as you stick to the safe apps (aka not the obviously fake Chinese knockoffs)
For calendar, you can keep the stock calendar app.
For maps, your options are rather limited. Most good maps are paid apps, so you need to get them from Google Play. Not sure how you can fix this without resorting to piracy
Use color note to replace keep.

For appstore, just use Amazon and FDroid.
Actually there are lots of good maps alternative, you just need to spend some money. I use Sygic, it take longer to enter locations and more base on navigation rather than locale discovery, but it's better than Maps when it come to direction, especially outside of USA. CoPilot GPS is also decent.
ColorNotes still use internet, I prefer my offline Memo app from my Samsung Galaxy S, still working on KitKat.

Am I the only one that doesn't care if Google or whatever watches me, and tracks me? I mean, there's no harm to it. They know I like Dubstep? So be it!
The good thing is, they use that data to make your user experience a lot better. Like, my youtube home page is full of Dubstep.
I don't have a problem with them knowing everything. I have nothing to hide, and I couldn't care less, as long as they use the info to make my life easier.

I need no schooling on Google and its ways, I've written quite a few papers for school on them so I GET WHAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY DOING and that's what scary IMO. I find that people who suggest cutting everything off are morons (not saying you) because what they are really doing is mocking w/e. I shouldn't have to worry about prying eyes is my point.

So people who already pay for google music get ad free youtube?
I still see ads in Youtube while signed in with my All Access email. I am an existing All Access subscriber.
I canceled my all access. Waited for it to run out. Opened the app. Got 6 months free. That easy.
I asked them about this after I received my nexus 6 and they basically told me to pound sand. This is a mistake many companies make. While getting new subscribers is good, keeping your current userbase is also important. Giving current users stuff like this provides incentive for people to sign up, while simultaneously keeping the current userbase happy.
I had a free trial a few months ago so I wasn't eligible for the free 6 months. All I did was add a 2nd Google account to my phone and selected it in the Google Music app and bam free 6 months. Everything else on my phone is tied to my main Gmail except for Music. Works great.
Does this promotion only work if you bought it through Google Play? I got mine from T-Mobile

Nope, it is for anyone who purchases a Nexus6. You should see it if you open up GoogleMusic from your phone.

I did this on accident. Had to change the CC on file, forgot to do it before Play Music expired, went to change it and was told I don't have to pay again until May 2015 :highfive:

I use google play music all the time. I don't have all access but I have 60gb legally purchased music saved to cloud. No message. Of course I go back and forth from having all access.
On a side note I never got an email from Google welcoming me to the nexus program. Like I did with NS, Gnex, N4, N5.
yeah i got the option for 6 free months, i need to actually use it now
i wonder if anyone can spoof that their phone is a nexus 6 and get the 6 months as well.....hmmmmmmm
So how about that ad-free YouTube that the OP was asking about?
Anyone seeing ad-free YouTube? Are you a 6 month free subscriber or a paying subscriber?

Ive been a spotify subscriber since they launched in the state. I tried google play when they first launched and it was nowhere near being real competition to spotify... Now it has matured a bit, and I get 6 months free, I am giving it another shot.
Does anyone know of a way to get my spotify playlists transfered over?
Also... did they seriously not include the functionality of crossfading?!
I'm getting my Nexus 6 tomorrow. So should I seriously cancel my subscription today and try to use the promo tomorrow? Will that work?

Still nowhere near as good as Spotify, unfortunately. I want to get rid of Spotify because their customer support and neglecting everybody wanting them to support chromecast.
But I have now tried all access several times (about every 2 months) and I always have to come back to Spotify since it is just that much better service.

I think they pro rate it too. Because I had something similar happen to me. Had to change an expired card. And when it was renewed they only charged me $8.99 instead of the $10.
