Playing your FPSE saves on PC the easy way - Xperia Play General

I had spent a long time googling for a solution that would allow me to easily play my PS1 game on my PC emulator and then switch to the mobile when I left the house and continue exactly where I left off without having to plug in/unplug/swap anything physically at any stage.
I saw a few people asking about it but the only solutions I saw seemed cumbersome and involved file name conversions etc.
Here's what I did:
Install SAMBA Filesharing from Marketplace on your Play and make sure it is active
Map your SD card to your PC as a network drive (you can just type \\Android into explorer)
Using your PC open the newly mapped Android SD card and create a text file wherever you want the memory card to be
Rename it to MSD001.MCD (selecting 'all files' in the save as process so it becomes an MCD file, not a TXT)
Configure PCSX to use that memory card file (Configuration > Memory Cards... > Select Mcd)
Launch a new game and get to a position where you can save it (I used FFVIII)
Load up FPSE on your Android
Under 'Settings > MISC > Select memcard 1' point it to the memory card file you created
Launch your game and get to a point where you can load a game then select memory card 1
Hopefully your game should then load the exact same save that you created on your PC.
I've tested it using FFVIII only but it worked both ways, which is to say a save from the Android opened in PCSX and the save from PCSX opened on the Android.
This ought to be possible for most emulators but is dependent on the Android emulator in question being able to read the PC emulator's save format.
An even better way of doing this, for true portability, would be if you could set your Dropbox folder as the home of the memory card but I believe the Dropbox heirarchy is not (any longer) navigable on Android. If I'm wrong please let me know.
I will look into the possibility of doing this with savestates but am assuming it's more complicated.

Or, just use a pc app called "memory card converter"

My suggestion negates the need to convert files and means that whenever you want you can play on your PC or your Android with a shared memory card meaning once it's set up all you ever have to do is load your game save up on your device of choice.

ePSXe will let you play the save states that FPSe creates without converting the file also.
Just use FPSe to create a memory card on your SD card (Settings > MISC > Select memcard 1).
Then when you want to play on the PC, connect your phone and point ePSXe to the memory card on your SD card.

Oh man, I was just looking for a save converter or at least the location FPSe's memory cards, I am so glad I stumbled across this topic! You, sir, have improved my life :good:

none of the methods work - help!
I have read this thread and tried both of the methods - creating the .MCD file and also tried converting the memory card files but with no luck.
I am using ePSXe 1.7.0 and FPse 0.11.87. The game I'm trying to play on both the PC and the Xperia Mini Pro is Gran Turismo 2. Could it be that it's just an incompatible game? Thanks.

I only use ePSXe on both android and PC so i don't have any problems with regards to compatibility on both memory card and saves state my only problem is that is there a very easy way to sync saves states and memory cards on android and PC.

fpse -> epsxe memcard
I moved from FPSE to epsxe today and had to run through hoops to get my save data on my Galaxy 10.1 to migrate. First I had to find where the MC card for fpse actually was located as I was running and old version. Finally found it in /data/data/com.emulator.fpse. I copied it from there and renamed it from slot1.MCD to epsxe000.mcr and dropped it into the memcards folder in epsxe. It migrated no problem.

The one thing i hate about fpse is if you uninstall it the saves go along with it.

REQ| why every gameloft's game i install, installs itself into main memory??

No matter what i do and even if i choose the memory card, the game installs itself into main memory..
How do i move it to the memory card????
Oh yeah, so annoying. That's why i don't get any gameloft games. They make good games but you have to be really dumb to allow installation only on the main memory, and their games are not small!!!
I have a couple Gameloft games on my storage card, but the may have come from "alternate" sources. Anyhow, if these "alternate" sources made it happen, there must be a way.
The way is to patch the installer.dll and the hardcoded references in the apps themselves. Screw those mamafuckers for not allowin' ppl to put the crap on storage cards.
this sucks! I also found this out, I was wondering what was causing my main memory to reduce, found out that eventhough you chose storage card it still installs to the main memory. I'm wondering, can you use a program such as SKTools to move the application to the storage card? Has anyone tried this? If not, I'll give it a try and report back....
Hi. I also wanted to try that with SK-Tools, but for some reason I cannot find the option within the program anymore. If you try, then let us know if it works, and how to do that with SK-Tools. THX!
I also can't find the option, I followed the instructions in SKTools, move application, installed programs ---> action, you don't get the option to move application. Maybe Gameloft has incoded something that doesn't allow the program to be moved. I give up! If anyone knows how to move it, then I'm all ears!
still no answer..anyone???
I've not done it myself but I believe pocket mechanic can move them.
No,.. pocket mechanic neither sktools are able to move them to storage card. This realy s*cks..
I've just tested it and moved two programs using pocket mechanic, although not from the marketplace.
main memory is getting low
are there any news?
My HTC HD2 gets low main memory.
I have installed 2 Gameloft Games - they are big
Where can I find a modifyed installer for the gameloft games allowing storagecard installation
GreeT`s
Good news! With 1.66 I'm now able for some reason to move Games from internal memory to SD using SK-Tools!! With 1.48 the entry in SK-Tools has been grew and not clickable - now it works!
They do this simply because it's the most efficient and stable way to install anything!
How many of you install your PC apps to an external hard drive?
Our internal hard drive isn't 100MB

Strange, I have moved numerous applications and games from my main memory to my storage card using Pocket Mechanic, including demos downloaded from the marketplace.
Select Relocate.
Select Relocate Installed Software (Applications).
Tick:-
- Move Files And Folders
- Update Registry References
- Update Shortcut References
- Update .unload Files
Select the software you want to move and let it do it's magic. Works a treat.

Not really a fair comparison. My external hard disk isn't always plugged into my PC as I use it on both my Xbox 360 and Wii. However, my memory card is never removed from my HD2.

[Q] external sd card general questions

hi, i've just got my iconia and I am also new on the Android world. A couple of things I've noticed about the external SD card that maybe somebody could help me to understand.
1.- when I hook my tablet to my windows 7 laptop, I get to see the internal memory on the win explorer but not the external card, so is this normal or do I have to look for more updated drivers on my PC?
2.- with the external SD card on I get to see my files on an android file manager and I get to open any file individually by getting the "select app for opening this file", but this is time consuming so I am wondering if my stock lumiread, gallery, multimedia player have the current limitation of only reading the content from the internal memory. If so, what free alternatives do I have to replace stock apps?
A couple of answers
First, if you install File Manager HD, you won't need to tether your Iconia to your laptop any more. In the app, open the 'menu' and touch 'LAN Connections'. Your Windows PC will show up as an IP address. Make sure to change the IP Address to a computer name (long press, rename) so that next time File Manager won't have to search for it every time. You will be able to transfer anything on the tab to the 'Public' folder on the PC, and vice versa. Depending on what folders are shared on the PC, you will be able to access more on the PC.
I keep my music on my external SD card in a folder named 'My Music'. The stock music/multimedia players found them with no problem.
I haven't tried moving any books for Lumiread to the external SD card, so all I can suggest is to look at the file structure and duplicate it on the ext SD card, copy a book into it (a new one, or move an existing one) and see if it finds it. I don't see anything within the app to set search/storage directories, but maybe it will scan everything like the music apps do.
Have fun with you new Tab. The more you play with it the more you will understand Honeycomb and it won't seem so foreign to you. It does pretty much everything every other OS does, just a little different way.
Kp
Thanks Ken, I downloaded FMHD and will try it soon. I also though about reproducing the lumiread folder on the ext sd card but no luck, so probably a future update on the app will fix that. I tried this as well copying the pictures folder (and also renaming it as 'My Pictures') but the stock gallery just won't see the image files, is there any chance you could see if you get the same results? I have not tried yet on the music stock app. Again, thanks for your help, it is great to find nice people on the web with similar tech passions as I do
Hello Ken, like that app. Wondering if it would be an easy way to tether to my HTC Evo? Thanks in advance for you thoughts.

I use Quickpic from the Market (free) since it lets you choose which drives/directories to scan.
Here is what you do.
1. Create the My Pics directory on the External SD card with File Manager HD, put a few pics in it.
2. After installing Quickpic, start the app. It will display everything it finds on the internal SD Card.
3. Touch the Menu button from the main screen.
4. Choose SETTINGS-INCLUDED FOLDERS-ADD
5. Tap the double dots at the top of the list, it will display all the memory devices attached.
6. Tap EXTERNAL_SD. All directories on the card will be displayed. Press OK.
Now press the 'back' button and you will see your pics that are anywhere on the External SD card.
All I did to get the A500 music player to find the music on the External SD card was run the NemoPlayer app and open the music. Once I did that the regular music app found them, too.
Have fun!

Don't quote me on this, but I don't think so. From what I have seen and heard so far it is only connecting to Windows shares. I don't have an Android phone to test with, so can't swear to it, but I know it doesn't see an iPhone, so likely won't see a Mac either.
Anyone else been able to connect to anything but a Windows share? Let us know if you have, and what app you used please.

[Q] New Owner Confused About Games

I just got my Xperia Play today and I'm a little puzzled about some of these games. I see that my Nova 2 cannot be moved onto my SD card (or atleast that button is dimmed under "manage apps"), but it requires an almost 400 Mb download to play. If there is only 400 Mb of memory on the phone, how is this possible? And if most Play games require additional downloads but can't be moved onto my SD, does that mean you will only have a few games at a time? Sorry if it was posted elsewhere, I did try to look around but couldn't find them
Use adb to set the install location to sd then everything can go to sd card, but as it is now just the app will be installed on the phone memory then the additional download will be put on the sd card

O I don't have adb yet... do I need to root my phone to use that? I recall it appeared when I put CM7 on my last phone. Thanks for clarifying that, all the games said they would download more stuff, didn't state where it would DL to, so I assumed it would go with the game

You do not need to move anything to download and store alot of games on your Xperia Play.
That would be stupid.
You download the apk, which gets stored on the phone. Its only a few mb. Then you download the game data which gets stored on your sd card.
The above users should of mentioned this before they sent you down a path of using commands to manually move things to the sd card.
I have about 9 large games on my phone at the moment and have around 155mb of free phone memory unused.
Also, the easiest way to move everything to the sd card is with titanium backup. Once you have rooted your phone, select batch move and it will automatically move everything you select to the sd card in one go.
Just as a tip, do not move wallpapers or clocks to your sd card. Your wallpaper and clock settings will get forgotten every time you plug your phone into your PC. (this is because your phone disconnects itself from the sd card so your pc can access it).
I think the biggest one ive seen so far is asphalt which takes up 30mb on the phones internal memory (after downloading the 400+mb to your sd).
But as dsswoosh has said if you root your phone you can use the free version of titanium backup to moves the games to the sd card. Now asphalt takes up less than 500kb rather than 30mb. Same with the other games once moved to the sd.
Games that are unable to be moved to the sd card normally such as nova and ashphalt can be moved once rooted.
Thank you all so much! Very useful, I think I was mainly just confused about where the game data was being downloaded to. With widgets and such having to stay on phone, plus the bloatware and programs that are phone only, 30 meg games still seemed pretty big so I was kind of worrying about space still, but after this thread I'm def going to root my phone. Thanks again!
I've got 21 games installed and a bunch of other apps and still got 240 mb of internal storage!
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Bloatware you can easily remove when rooted. and if you force all the installs to sd throug adb, you can keep up to 300MB internal storge
I have 303 free atm.
Only modern combat you should keep on the phone i think, i had it on sd for a week or 2 and suddenly it stopped working and no possible way to get it to work again only after factory reset.

Moving programs to SD branching

My16GB is pretty much full so I was looking to move some games to my SDCARD only to find this isn't possible. It got me thinking I use a program on PC called Steam Mover which uses branching to move my most played games from my mechanical drive (containing my steam account and most games) to the SSD.
Could something like this work on our Android device? I'm in work now so can't try steam mover myself. I know its a windows program and commands but wasn't sure if it would work.
After reading this I opened up app 2 sd to see about moving some apps from the phone to my SD card. It shows a message saying "The device does not have a real primary external storage, or the primary external storage is emulated. Moving app to SD function may not be supported by this device." I have my old 8gig SD card in that I set up the camera to put the pictures on and with 32gigs on the phone I don't care to move apps at this time. I wonder why it is showing up as being emulated.
Sorry I don't have an answer for you.
Well thanks for trying anyway. Wish the 32gb was put when I got mine!

[Q] Nexus 7 - view emulated memory from pc?

Hello all,
i've found a little problem with my nexus 7 tablet and im wondering if im the only one or if this is a general thing:
Android 4.2.1 allows multiple users and gives these users some sort of emulated memory (which is a clone/shortcut to the 'real' storage(?)). When i connect my nexus to my computer and create a folder 'Document' and put a document 'Document1.docx' in there, i can see these on my tablets (using a file explorer and officesuite pro). This seems to work fine.
However, when i open officesuite pro, i see the files i would see on my computer, but when i create a new document 'document2.docx', and reconnect my nexus to my computer, it does NOT show up in Documents (nor anywhere else).
I think the following is happening: the emulated memory is a 'clone' of my normal sd card, so when i connect the nexus to the pc and create a folder in windows, it will get 'cloned' and therefor visible in the emulated memory assigned to me. However, when i go to the filemanager on the tablet the memory shows as emulated memory, and so when i save a document on the tablet it ends up in the emulated memory. And for some reason this emulated memory is NOT copied back to the main memory drive.
Can someone confirm this, or check if the same is happening to them? If not, does anyone have a solution to fix this? I would like to create documents on the tablet and be able to connect the tablet to the pc and see the files i created (yes i know google drive/dropbox is an easy option, but im wondering why this method is not working...).
Thanks in advance!
p.s. this is not just a problem that occurs with officesuite pro, this also happens with other applications (for example i dloaded an e-book reader that created a folder 'eBooks' which appeared in my emulated memory, but not when i connect the device to my pc). do you guys reckon the applications are to blame, that they might not be made for android 4.2.1 and therefor bug a bit (which would be pretty odd imo)? or is this an actual android thing, since my download actually DO appear on my pc.
