Unlocked HTC panache with Virgin SIM Limited Service - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just gave my HTC Panache aka glacier to my mom. I unlocked the phone using a website and got unlock code. Now when i put her sim, i get a limited service message. I've looked on the net for at least 10 hours for a solution and this is my last resort.
I don't know why, when i put my old videotron sim it work fine, but as soon as i put any other sim, i get a limited service message on the phone.
Does anybody know how to solve this?
Phone is 100% stock

Compare the contact surface on your videotron SIM and hers. Are they the same?

Hmm, then I don't know. If the SIM is of the correct type it should work.

ive seen on the net that this problem is not uncommon. Although i havent found any solution. I had a Galaxy S II and now III and rooting was pretty easy, but how is it on this phone? I wanna try flashing a new radio, maybe that will help me but i saw that rooting a glacier is not for the faint hearted. is there any "easy" way?

I dont think there really is an "easy" way, the downgrade method is more time consuming than difficult

Everything. You will need to fool the bootloader into thinking the froyo PD15IMG.zip is newer than the Gingerbread you have installed. Then you flash it. Sounds easy and it can be if you follow the directions perfectly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
Once that's done use the gfree method stickied in the development section. "True permaroot and the ultimate S-OFF."

thank you!

I just realized you have a panache. Visionary wont work for temp root. You can follow the gfree guide, but substitute gingerbreak for visionary.

will do and will report back

OK!!! I feel like a total idiot!!! The sim card i compared it to was the wrong one...actually they are not the same shape, at least the chip isn't.
The red one is the one i want and the yellow is the stock videotron sim. Does this mean i can't do anything or do i still have hopes of giving this phone to my mom?

She could probably get her SIM swapped out. That's why I asked you about it initially.

Damn, now i'm worried because if i google Virgin Sim Card, all i see it those square one like in the picture i posted, no rectangular one

The Panache doesn't work on Virgin Mobile because it uses Bell's network which runs on 850/1900 HSPA, while the Panache is only able to connect to AWS bands or 1700/2100 HSPA bands. Bell also does not have a 2G or GSM network so you can't connect to that either. Simply put it, the Panache will not work on Virgin Mobile.
The Panache will only work on Mobilicity, Wind Mobile or Videotron on HSPA, or Rogers and Fido on GSM.
This is speaking under the assumption that you are in Canada since you own a Panache.

Team Unrevoked is way too awesome lol
Noob question. Sorry
I'm patiently waiting for this. But I have to ask. How will we switch from s-off to s-on? Is the switching on the fly? Or is there gonna be a file for off and a file for on? Other than warranty issues, why would I go back to s-on? I'm still rooted, stock rom and radio. I'm dying to try out new roms and upgrade the radio, but I've had blown speaker issues in the past. I'm on my third phone.
do it on the fly?? thats going a little far lol. Are you going to turn it back on every time you get done doing something that requires off?

Not even going to guess how it works, but you would definitely S-ON if you had a problem with your phone and needed to use your warranty, so when this comes out you can go as far down the rabbit hole as you want, and then you can put it all back to like you never did anything at all

[Q] Noobie who stupidly upgraded stock Atrix to 2.3.4/4.5.91

Hello all,
I am a noobie with a Motorola Atrix 4G MB860 AT&T USA Android 2.3.4 / 4.5.91 never before rooted/unlocked/[insert other adjective here] which, as you can guess by looking at the version numbers, I stupidly upgraded before realizing, "Oh hey, rooting this device might be a good idea."
Question is simple: Can I still root this device (and if so, under what conditions?), or do I have to wait?
It's been tough sifting through these forums, since most people already have rooted their device at some point or another and people who have never done so are, ahem, not very clear about their questions.
I haven’t tried particularly hard, but I have looked at SuperOneClick 2.1.1 (hung on "waiting for device"), moto-fastboot32 (tells me "unlock" is not supported, unsurprisingly), and I just downloaded the ATT-2.3.4_Pudding_preroot.rar although I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do with it.
Cheers,
Edward

Unrooting

Guys, I need some help.
I need to return my EVO Shift to Sprint and need to unroot. I did a search for "unroot" in this forum but couldn't find any clear instructions.
I have Cyanogenmod 7.1 installed (the official one).
Would really appreciate some help. Thanks
Search for the RUU. Run it. You'll go to unrooted stock. I have one on my old SD card if I find the time I'll load it up
Shifted from Outer Space
Or you can flash a sense based rom and take the OTA. That should work too

Flash the PG06IMG.zip file from the shift rookit below:
http://www.goo-inside.me/roms/VICODAN/shift-rootkit.rar
Copy the file to the SD card power off the phone, hold vol+down plus the power button and accept the update. You will lose all data including data on the sd card and will be unrooted on Froyo 2.2
Seems like just running RUU 2.2 is the easiest. I searched for it and got a link to multiupload which doesn't work.
Anyone know another source?

Also going to 3rd party stores makes life easier as well. I took my phone rooted last week and the tech told me to go unroot my phone and bring it back because his DM was there. LOL
Yeah someone I know was having touchscreen issues, with the phone. Told them, your insured, only been a few months since you got it. Take it back in and let them look at it. But first let me Unroot it. She was in a hurry, and took it to Sprint Rooted. Tech knows me, so he called me up. Was not a good situation . If the Manager had been there they would've flagged her account.

My phones not under warrenty anymore. I go to third party stores and I don't care if they know it's rooted or not. As a matter of fact I tell them it's rooted. I've been told by people that sprint doesn't care if you root your phone or not as long as it's not under warrenty. I've also been told by a sprint employee that you can root your phone. There's a law that most people don't know about that protects developers from carriers attacking them with legal issues. Fear I have not.

If you care about S-OFF don't take this OTA (or any OTA) until finding out if this patches known S-OFF exploits.
It might not break S-OFF. It might not break anything.
But until you *know* what it does (which is something you learn by waiting a few hours and then reading reports from people who have actually taken the OTA) you should really resist the urge.
Oh, I success OTA update with S-OFF + LOCKED bootloader + stock recovery + rooted, after update I use Voodoo OTA ROOTKEEPER to resrore root, excellent.

I only cared about s-off to convert my att model to the US dev version... Which I did (yay). Therefore I decided to be a guinea pig on this one... I went ahead with the update and it doesn't appear to change anything... Hboot is still 1.44.0000 it didn't change my s-off status. That's not to say that they didn't still patch the s-off exploits used to initially get s-off, it just means that if your already s-off it won't change it back to s-on. At least it didn't on my phone.
Got the update earlier tonight on my Dev Edition as well and just checked to see if this update fixes the bug where the phone's lockscreen misbehaves if you have the Accessibility Service enabled for an app (like the Pebble Smartwatch app or Lightflow) but it doesn't. Damn it! Wish they'd fix this bug.
Exactly! Same to me, i install this ota on my phone with locked bootloader+S-OFF, l was success with HBOOT still 1.44.0000, s-off and locked bootloader.

alright. so i want to say i went this route as well. i have 3 months left on my sprint contract.that being said, i have the files he used during the unlocking process. the problem is there is another thing he did to actually unlock it. he used something called flexihub while it was in the combination firmware to actually do something on his machine that i couldnt see. this is something he did on the modem level, but i confirmed with him that it doesnt matter if i flash another firmware using odin, my sim will still be unlocked. i have tried this with verizon sim and it works. again, my contract is not up with sprint yet, which means my device shouldnt be unlocked, but this somehow works. if anyone else wants this, here is the ebay seller link that i got mine done within an hour. keep in mind that you have to back up your device, because what he does is flash firmware. also he will need access to your computer to work remotely, but he never strayed from what he was doing. for 7 bucks, this is a steal.
