Hi,
I need a good video converter. Now i am using "Farmat Factory". But the problem is the converted video is double the size of original.
I use ImToo Video Converter
A song is about 20-25mb after conversion(I keep datarate around 800kbps and res 480x320).
Of course you could change the settings according to your need

Change the bit rate of video.
Video resolution, bit rate, frame rate can be decreased to reduce the output video size.
Of course, you can also try other free solutions like Handbrake, Vidcoder, Freemake, etc.
im using Handbrake its excellent. worth a try, im sure you would like it
Try this you will love it for sure

I tried many H264 ACC encoder, such as jetaudio and Format Factory. But all of it didn't have a native resolution and basic profile setting for X1
If you have a high demand on video playback.
You could try the GOM encoder. it support the RMVB to H264 + ACC, and it can limit the basicline profile 1.3 and native resolution for X1 WVGA (800x480).
I encoded many video by GOM encoder, the quality is very COOL ~~~~ I am highly recommend of it
http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html
On beside, the GOM player still is beta version and the internet connection is require while running the encoder.
***The beta encoder it will encode a GOM encoder logo on the top right hand corner around 10sec ***
*** Please make sure tick the "limit basicline [email protected]" checkbox and force the output file resolution to 800x450 (16:9), otherwise the video playback on X1 will very unstable***
Dude use MEGUI. It's can encode just about anything and in any resolution. Been using it to convert my blurays to smaller files to stay on my computer for streaming.
you can try SUPER as well...

How did you manage to get yourself a full version of GOM encoder because I can't find a way to buy the software.
What is the video bitrate you guys are using? Also anyone converting to xvid instead of mp4? What is the best setting for xvid?

s.u.p.e.r is a very good programm.
but nvidia kaboom and tcmpg 4.0 xpress can transcode on geforce hardware (8xxx+9xxx+02x0).
on my gtx280 i can transcode with 250 fps (kaboom). really nice!
anyone care to write a tutor for the best encoding video for the x1? I've tried so many different programs and the video playback is sluggish. I use core video player btw

CorePlayer doesn't take advantage of the hardware acceleration atm so it won't play H.264 videos that well. The best I can get CorePlayer to play is about 1000kbps divx with any resolution. Obviously the video looks worse as you raise the resolution but keep the 1000kbps data rate.
I mainly use the video player in the SE multimedia panel, which does use the hardware acceleration and can play H.264 videos at 800x440 at 1000kbps very well and looks better than the equivalent divx.
As for programs... for encoding divx to avi for Coreplayer, I just use virtualdub. For encoding H.264 you can use a number of apps, but a free one that's ok and was mentioned on these forums is http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
Basically just create a new profile for the X1 using 800x440 or whatever resolution you want, and set it to about 1024 kbps using H.264.

Some news on the GOM Encoder
With the newest version, there is a option update on "limit basicline [email protected]" . Now you can set it to 1.3 or 3.0.
I've tried 3.0 and it is working fine.
I don't know what's the effect for changing to 3.0. I just assume new stuff and bigger number are better.
Honestly, has anyone figured out what the best settings for Video/Audio encoding are for SE player? Does it have hardware acceleration?
I havent, video still laggy as hell, i use both windows media player and SE media player panel.
Just tried Videora free converter yesterday and today, and works great at 320x240 MPEG (did first one at two passes but you get a 1gb file instead of 500Mb and it really looks the same on the phone screen). And really not laggy at all....I'm not going to say you don't get an occasional jaggy but not very many. Biggest problem is the 1hr+ encoding time per movie
total video converter is best
works grt on xperia
and very fast too

Hi all,
I have a good collection of music videos on my PC all of good quality (mainly mkv's at aroung 70 - 100mb) I want to have these playback on my Leo and have succeeded in doing so but can't find a way to keep the quality on the smaller screen but have a smaller file size. I tried converting to 3gp and the file size was good but quality was bad. However, MP4 was good quality but bad file size.
Can anyone help? I am using RER Video Converter.
Thanks
Size is relative; what do you consider bad size?
I do some video editing as a hobby, and I converted the video clips I made to mp4 as well using Sony Vegas Pro 9. Quite frankly, I'm amazed at the quality/performance. Video is smooth, sharp, doesn't lag at all.
These are the settings I used, maybe some of this will be useful to you:
Frame size:
NTSC Square Pixel (640x480)
Profile: Baseline
FRame rate: 25 (PAL)
(Source allowed to change framerate)
Pixel aspect ratio: 1.0
Reference frames: 2
VBR Max 1,500,000bps
VBR Min 1,350,000bps
Audio Sample rate: 44,100Hz
Bit rate: 128kbps
Video rendering quality: Best
I tried in higher settings, and the player would play the video just fine, but the thumbnails in Albums wouldn't appear (at 29.9fps/CBR 2Mb and Main profile).
Grtz
Lukas
thanks for the reply, so you are suggestingusing vegas pro to convert my mkv's to mp4's using those settings? i was hoping for around 10mb max...?

If you use Windows Movie Maker (which is a bit pap really), it allows you to specify a target file size. I've done some very good conversions with this app, and I've found windows mobile to be the only real reason to ever use it. There's much better video conversion/editing apps out there, but it works a treat in this instance.
Just try messing with the output type and give a few different one's a go. I found that the PocketPC setting did a pretty good job. It wasn't 800x480 resolution, but it still looked good when viewing. Just don't expect bluray quality.
Edit:
Actually, if you want to convert MKV files, I couldn't recommend mkv2vob more. I use it for the PS3 and it's fast as anything, but there's no compression, so file size could be an issue for you.
Is there any apps that can view X264 mp4 videos?

I think yes but you need to pay for it. Dont know the name of the app yet.

@helpneeded: Have you tried Rock Player ? The free version is exactly the same as the paid version, except for the unobstrusive ad.
Okay I use the "Act 1 player" it was able to play all of my video/movie files.

I've tried both the rockplayer and act 1. Both apps are unable to play the X264 format.

i transcoded some videos with handbrake (to x264) and they work on mVideoPlayer, and the stock android video player, even in doubletwist
How do you do that? Cos I've downloaded some X264 videos from the web and it doesn't play on my droid.

I hope you do realize there's a limit concerning the resolution of the video file you're trying to play on Optimus One. As far as I know, the limit is 640x360 (according to this review). So you need to convert your files to fit O1's screen, the width in particular (480 px maximum, for landscape viewing). If you're trying to play files with resolutions bigger than that, RockPlayer on "software decoding mode" might work, but the rendering will be horribly slow.
Later edit: similar limits apply to the bitrate (3 mbps max.) and file size (should be under 1 GB).
NOTE: I did not test these values myself, I am always converting the files to fit my phone's screen and I keep a low bitrate (~512 mbps) because this saves space and battery.

I don't remember where did i saw the settings for handbrake, but there you go my custom preset for optimus one (using handbrake 0.9.5)
Thanks for this man! I have messed around with it and couldn't figure out the settings for Handbrake. In my case there was video, but no audio. I thought it couldn't play ACC, just Mp3. But that is not the case, it can play ACC with proper video resolution.
Thanks a lot! Saved the day!
I use Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate and the settings are as follows:
_ Video codec: MPEG-4
_ Video bitrate: 2500kbps (more on this later)
_ Video fps: 29.97fps
_ Video resolution: 480x320 (of course)
_ Audio codec: MPEG-4 AAC
_ Audio bitrate: 128kbps (raise if you use a headphone. I just use the default speaker which is mediocre so I don't need much audio clearance)
_ Everything else is at default.
The result is pretty good. The video played flawlessly on the default 'Video player' app which comes with P500. The video quality is very good and the playing is smooth, no lag found, seeking is fast too.
Now about the bitrate: I have tested up to 4000kbps and the default video player still managed to play it just fine, with some lags here and there. I choose 2500 because it is balanced between quality and file size, a 5 minute video clip takes about 70-80Mb in this setting.
hi ppl
use standard Divx converter(free to download in Divx website- dont use mobile version) or AnyVideoConverter(AVC)- also a free converter...
in AVC u can encode with x264 with 640*320 or 360
bitrate 512 n frame rate 25/23.9 anything, n audio in aac for rockplayer n mp3 for all others
use rockplayer where u hav d option to stretch d video to screen size
or use meredian player --- very nice...
Open root explorer click mount R/W, then go to /system/ open Build.prop.
stagefright.enable-player=(in your case it is true) and instead of true change it to false
I think that restart is required. It works for me.
This will open .avi .mpg .mpeg files from your stock video player without lagging on playback.

I'm wondering this as well. I've seen a few threads on here regarding 720p settings, but how about non-hidef? What would people recommend using? I copied some movies over to my TF when I first got it and the playback was horrible, regardless of what player I used.

Anything works for non-HD, just make sure you play it with something like Mobo Player, the default player doesn't support that many formats, nor does it play it as smoothly. In terms of HD, just look at the handbrake preset or install Mediainfo to check what profile your h264 video is at (Baseline, Main, High), it usually is Main/High. If it is 720p High, you may try playing it, but anything with more than 3 reference frames will lag.
something weard is i converted some movies they play but only at 2x they fly through.

I had this issue too. The file was an MP4 H.264 encoded file but the audio codec was not in stereo.
I re-encoded the movie using AVS Video Converter with these settings:
Frame Size: 1280x 720 (depending on movie format)
Video Codec: H.264/AVC
Frame rate: 24fps or match source video
Bitrate: 1500KBs video
Video Advanced: Multi-pass (first pass fast)
Audio Codec: MPEG-2/4 Audio 192KBS Stereo not 5.1
File type: MP4 PSP
With these settings, high def videos play awesome on my Transformer both on stock player and Rock Player with hardware decoding setting.

3. Custom bitrate as 700 kbps (or 1400 kbps for higher quality but bigger filesize)
4. Leave everything else as default.

Max. 720p H.264 high-profile and 1080p baseline-profile do play with HW acceleration. There was some limit on bitrate, but it's so high that you shouldn't need to worry about that.
