Is there any apps that can view X264 mp4 videos?

I think yes but you need to pay for it. Dont know the name of the app yet.

I can't find it on the droid market.

@helpneeded: Have you tried Rock Player ? The free version is exactly the same as the paid version, except for the unobstrusive ad.
Okay I use the "Act 1 player" it was able to play all of my video/movie files.
Sent from my LG-P500
I've tried both the rockplayer and act 1. Both apps are unable to play the X264 format.

i transcoded some videos with handbrake (to x264) and they work on mVideoPlayer, and the stock android video player, even in doubletwist
How do you do that? Cos I've downloaded some X264 videos from the web and it doesn't play on my droid.

I hope you do realize there's a limit concerning the resolution of the video file you're trying to play on Optimus One. As far as I know, the limit is 640x360 (according to this review). So you need to convert your files to fit O1's screen, the width in particular (480 px maximum, for landscape viewing). If you're trying to play files with resolutions bigger than that, RockPlayer on "software decoding mode" might work, but the rendering will be horribly slow.
Later edit: similar limits apply to the bitrate (3 mbps max.) and file size (should be under 1 GB).
NOTE: I did not test these values myself, I am always converting the files to fit my phone's screen and I keep a low bitrate (~512 mbps) because this saves space and battery.

I don't remember where did i saw the settings for handbrake, but there you go my custom preset for optimus one (using handbrake 0.9.5)
Thanks for this man! I have messed around with it and couldn't figure out the settings for Handbrake. In my case there was video, but no audio. I thought it couldn't play ACC, just Mp3. But that is not the case, it can play ACC with proper video resolution.
Thanks a lot! Saved the day!
I use Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate and the settings are as follows:
_ Video codec: MPEG-4
_ Video bitrate: 2500kbps (more on this later)
_ Video fps: 29.97fps
_ Video resolution: 480x320 (of course)
_ Audio codec: MPEG-4 AAC
_ Audio bitrate: 128kbps (raise if you use a headphone. I just use the default speaker which is mediocre so I don't need much audio clearance)
_ Everything else is at default.
The result is pretty good. The video played flawlessly on the default 'Video player' app which comes with P500. The video quality is very good and the playing is smooth, no lag found, seeking is fast too.
Now about the bitrate: I have tested up to 4000kbps and the default video player still managed to play it just fine, with some lags here and there. I choose 2500 because it is balanced between quality and file size, a 5 minute video clip takes about 70-80Mb in this setting.
hi ppl
use standard Divx converter(free to download in Divx website- dont use mobile version) or AnyVideoConverter(AVC)- also a free converter...
in AVC u can encode with x264 with 640*320 or 360
bitrate 512 n frame rate 25/23.9 anything, n audio in aac for rockplayer n mp3 for all others
use rockplayer where u hav d option to stretch d video to screen size
or use meredian player --- very nice...
Open root explorer click mount R/W, then go to /system/ open Build.prop.
stagefright.enable-player=(in your case it is true) and instead of true change it to false
I think that restart is required. It works for me.
This will open .avi .mpg .mpeg files from your stock video player without lagging on playback.
PLEASE RESPOND BACK AND HIT THANKS IF I HELPED YOU

i found both couldnt play some mp4
so my question is that does android support mp4 playback ? if it does how will i put it in my current rom [ i have tried 3rd part video players , it failed].

Android supports mp4 playback.

but my default player aint playing mp4..are their certain resolution tht video need to be in ?
AFAIK, mp4 is a file container and many things depend on the codec that was used to encode the video file. Personaly i'm using Handbrake to encode videos for watching them on my Legend, so if you want i could share the "proper" preset for this task.

I'm using Any video converter and MP4 (x264 / aac)
I found out that for some reason x264/mp3 doesn't work...

I installed Rock Player yesterday, which supports more file formats. I haven't tried a lot but it plays my downloaded Simpsons episodes just fine. They're in Xvid btw.

Does it work well for you? I got the free version and sometimes it loses audio/video sync...Any issues like that?
It works well but I've only tried short videos like tv show episodes. I read that longer complex videos might lose av sync at some points.

Download and install Handbrake (free app). The preset is attached bellow this post, (if you're using Windows Vista / Seven) move it to C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\HandBrake
Use preset called "Legend". Good luck
EDIT: don't forget to extract attached file.
is there a better player than rockplayer?
videos that arent 480x320 work incredible bad on my legend. itself the 5800 had a better video playback function than just every player i tried so far on the legend.
I have HTC Desire HD and not play the video files.
Please help.
Hi,
What format are these video files? Encoding, resolution, etc...
Have you tried re-encoding them with Handbrake?
The default player will play .avi video files which are mp3 encoded.

hi,
Download this tool:
http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/
It is imo the best video converter available, and its free.
Simply select from the side 'MPEG4 ASP (Xvid)' for video, and AAC for audio. And for format select MP4. The reason why these are the best settings for the Desire HD is that these codecs are supported at the hardware level.
Ok after you're done selecting the formats, the important thing is when you click save, you must write .mp4 at the end of the filename. Without this then the file will have no extension.
You should get the app Rockplayer from the market to play your vids. Its great because it has a hardware playback mode and will play any file you converted, VERY smoothly as long as you chose the settings i described above. I was stunned when i watched a trailer from Gran Tursimo 5 that i converted.
Anyway hope this helps.
Format is 480p BRRip Xvid AC3-FLAWL3SS.avi.
Before I have the Galaxy S and watched moves with mVideo Player, so as I got my HTC installed the same player, but it could not run a movies. I started to install different app palayers and managed to let them in VPlayer beta.
Hi,
I use RockPlayer, you can play Divx, Avi, Mp4... no need change the format I have a full version from 1.5.1 Mod edit: warez url removed from my Megaupload Account
Regards!
Hello all I just got my E Pad and looking to load some movies onto it.
Can anyone tell me the best format to use for quality. I have an 8Gig Micro to use for videos. I also use DVDFab for converting.
Thanks

I'm wondering this as well. I've seen a few threads on here regarding 720p settings, but how about non-hidef? What would people recommend using? I copied some movies over to my TF when I first got it and the playback was horrible, regardless of what player I used.

Anything works for non-HD, just make sure you play it with something like Mobo Player, the default player doesn't support that many formats, nor does it play it as smoothly. In terms of HD, just look at the handbrake preset or install Mediainfo to check what profile your h264 video is at (Baseline, Main, High), it usually is Main/High. If it is 720p High, you may try playing it, but anything with more than 3 reference frames will lag.
something weard is i converted some movies they play but only at 2x they fly through.

I had this issue too. The file was an MP4 H.264 encoded file but the audio codec was not in stereo.
I re-encoded the movie using AVS Video Converter with these settings:
Frame Size: 1280x 720 (depending on movie format)
Video Codec: H.264/AVC
Frame rate: 24fps or match source video
Bitrate: 1500KBs video
Video Advanced: Multi-pass (first pass fast)
Audio Codec: MPEG-2/4 Audio 192KBS Stereo not 5.1
File type: MP4 PSP
With these settings, high def videos play awesome on my Transformer both on stock player and Rock Player with hardware decoding setting.
Sorry to start another one of these threads but after hours of searches on xda and google I want to know what my best route is for playback of .MOV files.
I have a Contour HD helmet cam that captures video 720P 60fps. It's only format choice is .MOV. On the a500 I have tried all the major video players and codec packs but what I get is super slow playback or no video playback. What I have been doing is transcoding the files using the Handbreak 720 baseline preset and that works pretty well 80% of the time. Sometimes the files are unplayable (not sure why).
My goal is to be able to take the card out of the cam and put it into the a500 and review my files without transcoding. If this isn't possible I will just continue to use my netbook for reviewing the files while I am away from home. Ideas? Thanks
According to this,
http://helmetcameracentral.com/2009/04/27/vholdr-contourhd-the-worlds-first-hd-wearable-camcorder/
the ContourHD does either 720p @29.97, or 480p @59.94. Video uses Main profile. The sample 720p clip uses a 5.6Mb/s bitrate, the 480p uses 3.3Mb/s. Both use 64Kbs mono AAC. All are within the stock player's capability.
No need to transcode, just a remux to MP4 container. Try the below,
"Use MPEG Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com/) - Open MOV file and Save as - change file type to MP4."
Thanks for the response. I will try the link you provided and a simple renaming of the file to .MP4 also. It's funny because the first time I tried to play a file on the a500 from the Contour I swear it played flawlessly but now they all play in super slow motion.
Update:
Ok, that worked and was pretty fast on my work desktop (older dual core). I am still hoping for a non converting/re-coding solution that I can use in the field. I was hoping to review videos while camping using the a500.
Hi,
I need a good video converter. Now i am using "Farmat Factory". But the problem is the converted video is double the size of original.
I use ImToo Video Converter
A song is about 20-25mb after conversion(I keep datarate around 800kbps and res 480x320).
Of course you could change the settings according to your need

Change the bit rate of video.
Video resolution, bit rate, frame rate can be decreased to reduce the output video size.
Of course, you can also try other free solutions like Handbrake, Vidcoder, Freemake, etc.
im using Handbrake its excellent. worth a try, im sure you would like it
Try this you will love it for sure
