hi guys new user of HTC HD2 here (previous motorola defy user)
so I got this phone yesterday thru swapping, and this phone is awesome, but I was rather disappointed with the internal memory. Mines got 186mb of application space so I always get memory full prompts. I know there is a mod to increase the size.
I flashed paranoid android this morning and boy is it good looking
I just want to increase my internal memory and Id be happy with it
what's the maximum I can a lot to it?

OK first things first,
Are you familiar with the 'stuff' of the HD2? MAGLDR bootloader, ClockworkMod Recovery(CWM)? sd-ext partitions?
well I'm trying to learn this terms but this is gonna take a while I think,
the Previous owner has installed magdlr 1.13 and clockworkmod and I have flashed paranoid android rom this morning. So I do have a recovery
sd-ext partion not so much
**okay okay, you will need to do a lot of research about your device and using it to its full potential; too much that it can't be explained within one post **
but here is a method I found in xda of performing a sd-ext partition within cwm:
> GO to advance and then partition SD card
> Remember this will wipe the sd card so back everything up if need be
> Choose how much space you want, 1024mb is recommended, on the partition then then choose 0MB for swap
>PLEASE NOTE PARTITIONING WILL WIPE THE SD CARD!
>and hey presto your done
> from here you can install link2sd and your set to go. -note, you will need to read about link2sd before use. just search it
There are many benifits of this using EXT-Partition such as you apps will automatically transfer to your partition meaning you will free space on your internal storage!
apologies if there's any misinformation there, quite tired :$
Sent from space..
ah I see, so basically the sd card will be detected as and internal card and I won't face memory full errors whenever uninstalling?
but I can just use link2sd app to transfer apps to sd card manually right?
I was wondering why I only have 186mb of internal memory wherein in GSM arena it says at least 512mb.
what I want to do is a phone modification to increase it, just in case the sd card was corrupted, I still have my apps on the phone memory
thanks for the reply though, if you can add something feel free :victory:

It says 186Mb because when you flash CWM, you also partition your NAND to run Android. Essentially, the storage you get is 512Mb-CWM partition size, although normally it's lower as there are probably things other than this installed to the NAND.
Thank you

Well it depends on the partition size you're currently using. If it's already the minimum for your ROM then no you can't increase the storage by repartitioning the NAND, but if it's any more than the minimum then you can increase this, by reflashing recovery with the correct size. Make a full backup in CWM first though.
so I reflashed 150MB recovery partition and flashed AOKP build by xylograph
now I have 217MB of internal memory
what should I flash so I can have more space?
the less is your recovery partition - more internal memory you get. Minimal recovery partition can be about 100 mb for some light roms I belive. So you can get 50 more mb than you hav now.
You've mentioned 300mb earlier, even if you get your desired 300mb it's gonna get filled up very soon.
I would advise you as was mentioned above to borrow 1gb from your sd card for sd-ext partition. Most of the roms support from the box (without intsalling any additional apps or scripts) sd-ext partition and install apps by default on that partiotion, Paranoid Android does, for instance, actually 80% of the roms do as well...
I don't know if it means anything, but you could look into a US HD2. Its got 1024 mb internal memory! That's double!
ok maybe ill experiment with this sd-ext partition
never had to deal with tgis when I was on defy
try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661892
I installed AOKP in NAND & had only a few 100mb's available, I just used Link2SD & moved most apps/ games to SD. SD has no ext. part. yet. will do it latter when i get a 32gig card, now just testing a 4gig SD

hi guys ,
i have a 16 gb sandisk class 4 sdhc card and currently i am using rom HYPERDROID GBX V12 by pongster .
before installing the rom through clockwork mod recovery , i partitioned the sd card with 1024 size and 0 swap size.
but my internal storage is only showing 257 Mb
and after installing a few apps, my internal storage has become low ,
is there any way to virtually increase the internal storage by utilising the SD card storage???
can this be done without formatting the phone or the ROM ,ie.,without losing data ??
HELP APPRECIATED.
THANK YOU.

no it did not work that way...
You could partition your sd card, adding an ext2,3 or 4 partition and install DarkTremor's A2SD script. Then your apps will be installed into your ext partition on your card instead of in your phone's memory. And using the A2SD GUI app from the Android market, you can put your dalvik-cache to the partition, and do some other cool stuff. If you cant find DT's A2SD script by searching for it, I can attach the working version that I have to this post when I get home.
Edit: Attached a good working version. Flash it via CWM, after you allocate an ext4 partition (1 gb is a good size) on your sd card.

1. In CWM Recovery, under 'Advanced', theres an option to partition your sd card.
2. By partitioning your card, you are allocating an amount of space to be used as an ext2/3/4 partition. Doesn't really matter which you use, but ext4 is said to give the best performance. I'm pretty sure CWM creates an ext4.
3.By moving all your installed apps to the sd partition, you are freeing up internal storage in your phone. I have hundreds of apps installed, my phone has 650mb internal storage available, runs smooth as butter, and I still have half of my 1gb partition free.
Thanks i did the partition and installed an app called " modinstall" by mskip and now all my apps by default install in sd card
But why is my internall storage only 270 mb by default without any apps in it??

Do you have a EU HD2, or a TMOUS one? The European ones have far less ROM space. You could try a smaller system partition by modifying the flash.cfg file in the folder which you flash CWM from, just do a nandroid backup in CWM first, then restore it into your new smaller system partition after re-flashing CWM with the smaller system partition. I wouldn't go any smaller than 150 mb for a non-Sense ROM, if you go too small then your ROM won't boot up, or will have too little room to run comfortably. But too large a system partition will just waste internal storage space.
But if all your apps are getting installed to your partition by default, 200+ mb is more than enough internal storage for your phone to run nice and smooth. But that's also why I recommend DT's A2SD script, because not only does it move all your apps to the partition, but your dalvik-cache too (anywhere from 30-75 mb) and with the A2SD GUI app, it's easy to do more to make your phone run smooth, like enabling zipalign at bootup.
I have an EU hd2 now i hav installed the zip file of apps2sd u hav attatched in ur reply
I hav downloaded an application apps 2 sd from market to move phone apps to sd ut the only issue is that
Now after moving to sd , a few apps like angry birds, glow hockey and many other games or apps give an error and force closes but when these apps are moved back to phone they run smoothly !!
Why is that that these few apps are not running in sd card???
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
Though my apps are getting installed in sd card by default but many of the apps do not run unless they are moved to phone's memory !!!
Is there any solution???
I really prefer this method by which my apps are installing in sd card by default but how can i avoid the force close errors in some of the apps ??? Eg - angry birds
Thank you

it would be usefull if you told us exactly which desire hd rom, how you are running it (daf, cwm, sd card), and whether you have an ext partition on your sd card. Oh, and which phone you have, regular or tmous.
Sense roms are big, they take up a big chunk of the nand, so it is almost always essential to use app2sd and/or data2sd. (read the thread for the rom you have to know which it supports)
More accurate info = more accurate help.
rubbish info = rubbish guesswork help.

here is my details..
ROM : LeoRCMix S v.1.5 (RCMixS v.2.0) [Sense 2.1+3.0]
Running using : CWM
Phone : HTC HD2
Im using : TMOUS
I know i have to use app2sd/data2sd.. but im not sure how to config it.. even i tried to do but im struck with boot screen..
ok, so it should only need a 200 meg system partition, so my guess would be that you haven't set up the 1gb ext partition? you can do that through cwm (backup your sd card first, it will get formatted) and
but im not sure how to config it

you dont have to. it does it itself so long as you have the ext partition properly created. I also think that if you DONT have the ext partition set up yet, you will probably need to reinstal the rom after you DO set it up.
So, summary, , , question 1 - do you have an ext partition set up?
(Also, and this causes a lot of confusion, , , when the system uses an ext partition, it DOES NOT show the extra space in the available memory count, but it does get used, , so for example my phone shows 210MB or so free internal space, , , i install a 10MB probgram, that goes down to 200, BUT after i reboot, it goes back up to 210, , because the prog has actually installed to my 512MB ext partition, not the 210 internal space.)

EU and TMOUS: 200M system + 1GB EXT partition

that means you have 200 meg empty in your system partition, not being used.
Stuff that you install do not get installed to the system partition, nothing (or at least not apps / settings) gets put into the system partition, except the system at installation.
Do a full cwm backup, reflash using a 200MB partition layout, reflash the rom to teh new layout, restore your data and sd-ext partitions from advanced restore (in cwm) and you will recover the 200MB

same problem
i have a nand of 4.1.2 in my hd2 its pacman
it shows system memory only 13mb, i have removed all apps i installed earlier but still no space freed, can i atleast get the same 150mb back which i had earlier i.e any way to wipe all data on it/hard reset it?
is there any way of expanding the memory? because after i have installed 10-15 apps the memory vanished(even though i moved the apps to sdcard using app2sd) does that means i can not install more apps any way??
p.s i am a new user of android dont know how to install new rom etc so please explain the solution in simple steps.
I have installed MIUI.us-Leo-2.4.27-HWA.ZIP in to my HTC HD2. Everything is working fine except Camera and phones internal memory is very low, only 25MB resulting cannot update any existing applications.
My phones total internal memory memory is 151MB and available is only 25MB.
SD card total space is 15GB and available is 9GB which is fine.
Total downloaded applications are 26 only, so it is not that I have too many application downloaded.
I moved most of the downloaded and other applications to SD card by using titanium backup. Few could not be moved for unknown reason as it does not give me option to move.
Can anyone please help me to increase my internal memory to at least at 70 or 60MB please.
Would appreciate your help.

Yes, it is NAND ROM. The recommended partition was above 200mb and I used 250mb, so it was okay.
All I need to increase my internal space at least to 60 or 70mb so that application update can be done.
Many thanks
The ROM suggested 200, but you installed 250. You just lost 50 worth o internal storage.
You'll need to install an A2SD script, in order to be able to use your sd card as an internal storage. (of course, after making an ext2 partition )

Like everyone here, I have the famous HTC Leo. A friend installed Android on NAND, the 2.3.4 with the mod-HyperDroid CM7-v2.1.0.
This is a great device, but the more I use it, the more I have less internal memory.
At first, I installed a lot of applications, I was full of things and I ended up filling the internal memory. I moved the more applications possible on the SD card, but the internal memory ended up being full. So I uninstalled applications not too useful, and applications more useful, clean caches, remove data, but it is still too small. My system tells me that I only have 217.3 Mb total internal memory and while I hardly more than application system installed, I only have 21.3 MB available. Now, I know that this model has double.
I do not understand: what is this devilry? Where is my memory? How can I resume normal operation until all the memory is gone and my phone becomes unusable?
I can't be the only one to whom it happens, right?
only the data partition counts as internal memory, the rest is taken by the system, boot and recovery partitions, so your200+ sounds about right.
read up on creating an ext partition on your sd card, and either flash a rom that supports it already, or add a script to your current rom, , then, instead of using the data partition on the nand the system will use the sd-ext partition as if it were nand. (This is NOT the same as choosing 'move to sd' in the apps config screens, that moves it to the fat partition, and some apps wont work from there, , , all apps will work from the ext partition, and faster than the fat partition.)
There are two sets of scripts, some move the whole data partition to ext, meaning of course you are not using the 200+ mb on the nand, so for me i prefer the scripts that move only the apps to the ext partition, and keeps your actual data (txts, contacts, stuff like that) on the regular nand data partition, thus spreading the useage.
look out for keywords like 'app2sd+' 'data2ext' 'dataonext', , stuff like that when you're searching.

My problem is find a good ROM for my needs. So, I have HSPL 2.0.8 and MAGLDR. How can I find the rom radio number? I need this information to choose the good ROM. Any advices about good ROM for my needs?

I bought a new 16 GB SD card to try the method of post 1843062. I am trying to format as it should, and tonight or tomorrow, I'm trying to see if I can install the script without too much risk, I am not a very experienced user of ROM for HD2 and, in addition, as I'm 100% Linux Ubuntu, I saw that many procedures are more complicated or impossible to run from a Linux desktop.
Thank you for all your help and I'll let you know.
I need to understand.
I have a EU HD2 with HyperDroid CM7 installed on it.
Like many people here, my memory became too small over time. So I look for a solution and I was guided to this thread. While speaking, I read everything I could understand (and frankly there really is too much to read and understand, here ) and I ended up deciding to adopt the solution Kokotas.
So I bought a new SD card (16GB class 10 Duracell - I know, Duracell is a brand of batteries ...) and I formatted properly Gparted as shown, with one primary partition of 12 GB fat32 I named /données (French for datas) and a second primary partition 4 GB Ext4 I named /data.
Then I primed to install the script Kokotas (but I have not yet done so, this is the trick!) And there: surprise!
I suddenly 4 times more free memory internally (from 20 MB to 80 MB), but it is still the same overall size!
I wonder how it is done, because it's been months that I want to release the NAND memory, I deleted almost all my applications downloaded without great effect and there, before installing the solution Kokotas, hop, I have the place!
I run Nautilus on my HD2 connected via USB and what do I see? in the partition /data in ext4, records were Cres /app /app-private and /dalvik-cache.
What does that mean? My ROM can do one DATAtoEXT 2011 alone, when she sees a partition SD / data?
Do I install the script Kokotas or it is not worth it?
Do I flash a new ROM (I thought MIUI-MIX_3.3.1, but I'm not sure it's a good idea) without risk, in short I need to understand what happens with my phone.
Thank you.
(Sorry for my english : this is the fault of Google translation )
You might also consider just running an SD build instead of NAND. You can get a 2GB "internal storage" system.img and you don't risk getting bad blocks on nand by constantly flashing things. In my use of both I didn't really see any great speed increase or advantage in using NAND other than boot-up time is a bit less, but does that really matter?
Just another thought on this.

Hi guys,
First I want to thank you all, I get my HD2 few days ago with a so old and boring windows 6.5, and i had a lot of fun upgrading it to Android.
I successfully installed the CM9 nexus rom with the nativeSD option (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437463), i'm very impressed by the smoothness of the rom.
I have a small issue with space available for apps, i only have 914Mo of "internal space", 815Mo are aleady used (i guess for the system), meaning i only have 99Mo remaining to install my apps. As i use a lot of them, even if i move most of them to SD card, it is a too small space left.
Do you know how i can increase my "internal space", as i use a 16Go SD i have no problem re-partitioning my sd card, i just don't unsderstand how to do it (with MAGLDR? with CWM? manually with my parition manager?).
thanks a lot in advance for your anwers,

800+Mb?? that's HUGE that's not the system! system files take up usually 150 - 350mb depending on eth rom you flashed, nowhere near 800+
anyway, just backup your rom through recovery, and then use a partition manager via the pc, or the one in recovery, to make a bigger ext partition, say 2gb, and then restore your rom through recovery.
Yes 800MB is indeed a lot. IF you go to Settings->Storage which numbers do you see by Internal Storage?
If you backup your system, how big is the backup ZIP?
You can go through your file system with a tool like Root Explorer (paid) to find out where the big data of your system is. You have about 500MB too much.
Use MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition to partition your SD card. Make an EXT4 of about 2GB en default cluster size. The remaining part should be FAT32, 32k cluster size.
Thank you to both of you,
You were perfectly right about the fact that 800Mo+ is way to big. I opened my Ext4 partition with my Ubuntu, and "surprise", i found 2 folder remaining from previous (and failed) attempts of installing MIUI roms. After manually deleting those two, my internal storage went back to normal.
Thank you again for your help.
