Stuck at splash screen - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed one of the gb radios, following the instructions, and when i rebooted my phone its stuck at the splash screen. I would just try to put a different radio on the sd card and flash that through fastboot, since i cant get to recovery, but my computer wont pick up my sd card even on my wifes phone. Any ideas?

Will it boot without the card or with a different card?
Did you verify the md5 of the radio before you flashed it?

Got it working

When I booted into recovery I couldn't select recovery from fast boot since the radio file was still on the root of the sd card and my only two options were to update or reboot. I fixed it by putting my wife's sd card in my phone, booting to recovery, wiped cache and dalvik cache, put my sd card back in, booted back into recovery and flashed the radio file on my sd card through fast boot again. It seems the big mistake I made originally was just not wiping the caches before flashing the radio

No recovery

I permrooted, and flashed cwm3.0.0.5 and flashed cm 7 build 23 on my glacier. It didn't work and would not boot post the animation, the animation kept looping. So I flashed the stock system since it would not restore my backups and did a factory reset. Now I have no recovery. I rerooted up to the s-on part (can't find the root file for s-off) installed rom manager and that says I successfully flashed a new recovery. I tried this with earlier versions of clockwork and each time I'm greeted with a black screen, and red triangle/exclamation point. How do I get my recovery back?

It isn't possible to install clockwork recovery unless you are s=off, so you will need to do that before you can get cw to install.

You can search for anyone of the "how to root" threads in the development section.
But to answer your question.... here is the link.

Ok, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but cm7 will not boot. The boot animation keeps looping. I let it run for about 10 min before trying again and same thing. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone help?

details? what recovery are you using, what version of CM7, what(if any) error messages are received in recovery upon attempting to flash?

Cm7 build 25 as of today, but I have tried since build 23. I have the latest cwm from rom manager, but I have also tried with cwm 3.0.0.5. No error messages.

try with build 26 (newly released), use CWM 3.0.0.5, and make sure to wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. Let me know if that works, or what happens.

It was the dalvik cache I was forgetting to clear it. Using cm7 I noticed that my screen was not as responsive. Anyone else with this problem.

Did I do something wrong?

I am running cm7 on my mt4g. I cleared the SD card of all data except clockwork 3, google apps zip file, and cm7 rom zip file. I also cleared the cache partition in the recovery mode. Now it wont load cm7 from the SD card it just stays on the "mytouch 4g screen". The only way i can get it boot up correctly is running the backup i made. What did I do wrong and how do I fix it?

Is clockwork already installed? Did you wipe data and cache in the recovery menu before flashing cm7?

I actually figured it out last night. I'm not quite for sure what happened (probably something stupid that I did) but the cm7 zip file on my zip card was damaged so when I replaced it with a fresh copy and reflashed it worked great.
Thanks for your willingness to help.

Cant get ROM's flashed... I've been demoted to a noob... =/

So I rooted and switched ROM's many times on my MT3g, and now that i'm trying it on my MT4g, I'm having hella trouble.
So I got to S=off and its perarooted now, with ClockworkMod Recovery image: 3.0.2.4. I tried to update the Kernel to KB-Kernel-2.4.8-108-CFS-SV... put my phone with the stock ROM into a boot loop, so i restored it. Tried to update the Kernel then immediately install CM-7.0.0... again put it into a boot loop, and had to restore. What am i missing here? Should be partitioning like with my MT3g? Should i be wiping? Is there something else I should be installing?

That's your problem. You can't flash a kernel before the ROM, because the ROM's standard kernel immediately overwrites it. Try wiping all 3 items in the recovery menu, flash CM7, and then let it boot. Once CM7 is stable, try flashing your kernel. Just make sure it is compatible.
Sweet, thanks. Hopefully it works.

It will work.
1. Flash Rom
2. Wait 5 mins so everything loads
3. Reboot into recovery
4. Wipe cache then in advanced...wipe davlik cache
5. Select zip from sd card and flash new kernel
Follow this and you will be good to go everytime! Happy flashing!

Wipe factory data
Wipe catche
Then go into advanced wipe dalvik
Should take 30 secs max to wipe, 5 mins max to install and reboot
Then flash your Rom and reboot. Once its rebooted then try flashing the kernel. There is no reason that won't work assuming you do have s-off

If what Mark said doesn't work, I'd look to a corrupt recovery image, or more likely a bad download or SD card.
Aww... I'd be hella sad if I had a bad sdcard. My problem was that I wasn't wiping the correct things, but now thanks to you great people I finally can flash again! Thanks!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Glad you got it working. If Mark or I have helped you, maybe you could hit the thanks button.
Make sure when you do a kernel you wipe cache and than davlvik and than flash the first time kernel and than repeat the process and than flash your desired kernel.

[Q] Problem mounting new SD card

RUnning Zips Creamed Glacier 3.11, Clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.0
Trying to mount a brand new micro SD card (16 gb), but when I try to do it in the ICS settings, it never mounts. WHen I try to mount it in Clockworkmod recovery, same error. Any ideas on this for me?
Could be a bad card. Have you tried a different one?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA
Tried it with the original card as well, same issue.
Is there any trash in the slot?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA
Nope, slot is clean.
I'd flash a PD15IMG.zip. It rewrites everything. If its software related that should fix it.

Well I'll be a son of a doggone... I was finally able to format the new card on my win PC, and now my phone sees it. Still won't see the original tho.
Brute force and ignorance to the rescue!
THanks for your help!

Install a new ROM with no CPUID

Hi guys
I don't know what is happening with my tablet. I dropped it on the floor and after that quit working. I tried to flash a new rom as I am able to go into the recovery but installation hangs up at finding boot img step. Restore not working as well. Sometimes it says that it couldn't load the sd card or the ext sd card. Now it bots but it stays at android logo forever and eventually shuts down.
I dont have the CPUID handy so any method using it is out of discussion.
If you can come up with a solution would be really awesome. If not I guess I have to throw it in the garbage.
Thanks a million.

If you did a recovery backup, you should be able to find the UID number in the recovery folder on your EXT SD card.
Or perhaps you were not rooted with CWM installed?
More than likely, it could possibly be just corrupt data. First thing I would do, is check your EXT SD Card on your PC. Copy the contents to your PC, then format it FAT32. (always try to save the contents of it first)
Then, I would try running one of the update files. Copy it to SD Card, and try installing it. You may have to try a couple first. Here's a link with decrypted A500 ICS update files. Generally, we install these (rename the file to update.zip), by holding Vol+ and PWR till it starts installing the update. However, if you have the V8 Bootloader installed, then you need to try them through CWM. One of them should work usually.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31323893&postcount=8
Another method is to totally wipe the internal memory from your tablet. This can be done through CWM. When you do your wipes and formats before installing a custom rom, go to Mounts and Storage, and toggle Data/Media. Then when you do your wipes, it will wipe and format EVERYTHING, leaving bootloader and CWM.
also, I would pop the back cover off, and look for loose connections.
As with throwing in the garbage, there is a market for a500/501 parts.

Thanks a lot for the tips. Never thought of sticking the sd card into the pc. I did a backup so i should easily find the CPUID. I'll try to follow your steps and see what's going on.
Thank you.

Other things you can try, if you have Skrilax_CZ V8 bootloader, you can try booting to fastboot, and wipe data. Theres several commands to do this for the different partitions like data, system, cache, then try re-installing the custom rom you were using again.
