Just curius. I tend to use my phone ALOT, just can't put it down, i love it.
But i started to notice my thumbs are feeling like i got burnd on somthing hot. The screen feels very warm and my fingers hurts.
Am i just imaging? Have i just used the phone so much i weard my fingers down, or is im actully getting small burns?

Never happened to me. I doubt it would be getting that hot or the screen would melt. Or the battery would explode.
Im not saying the phone will melt, just that screen feels hot. But guess it's only me then
No it's not only you, i have the same issue. When i use the phone for quite some time the screen gets really hot. Like you said...sometimes it's like your fingertips are on fire! . When this happens i usually stop using it for some time. It cools down pretty quick (half an hour i guess). Other than that...my phone still works perfectly (i've had it since december 2010).

Im a bit scared to buy a new Samsung since i been having the call issue and slow internet etc. I just sent it in to Samsung today to get a new radio firmware they havent gone public with yet =D. So there is hope.
In the end, i wonder if its not gone be better to wait untill we find out what the real plans for Xbox on WP7 is heading. Might be that there will be some awsome power phones coming with some hard core graphic cards. Nvidia and MS have been up to somthing i belive, I strongly belive that gaming will get totaly´ly amazing in the future for WP, since there focusing hard to turn the consol to be a entertainment center, leving somme room for a full gaming experience. But i guess, only time will tell.

I don't know whether it's the screen itself or whether it's heat from the internals conducting through the screen.

dude i also feel warm not in screen but back of phone,. When i play 3d games or use 3g apps, it gets warms... When im charging, omg that time it seems like it is cooking... Is it bad samsung build fault or bcoz of flashing omnia 7 with different firmware ???

about the back of the battery cover i think is normal to be hot because battery goes hot and the metal cover leave more feel to user than a plastic cover..
That's okay, friends. It's just the CPU/GPU getting hot when you do things that need power (games e.g.).
You should feel how hot the Samsung Galaxy SII gets at the back when you are playing games (or the EMail client is crashing again and both CPU cores stick at 100% ).
It might get hot while charging too but that's the battery then. Nothing to worry about, just enjoy your phone

near the camera is the cpu. when you use the cpu, it gets warm. then it cools down while its not being used. the phone comes with a quad core cpu, that definitely produces heat when being used. on top of that, the back is glass, to let the cpu cool down faster. because its glass, you can feel the heat better than you would be able to feel it through a plastic or metal back. btw, thats not an issue. if someone thinks its an issue, then they just dont know how these things work. like a car engine, it gets hot when its on, and gets hotter when pushing the engine harder. its the same way.

I'm not worried about the updates, no other phone get's more updates than a nexus. The Galaxy nexus is still getting updates, and you can always force the update, or a AOSP rom. About the heat, the back glass only heats up on my device while playing games, and only games, not even charging. But that's my experience with the phone, wait for others to answer back. I really enjoy having this phone, even more than my previous galaxy nexus.
The only times I feel heat on the back of the phone are when I use the charging orb to charge my phone, or after I flashed a new ROM and was downloading all my apps all at once from the Store again, the area by the camera that they're talking about got hot. I'd say it was more 'above the Nexus logo' than 'by the camera', but whatever. I have a feeling that's where the antennae are (I was on Wifi). It usually doesn't happen, and doesn't really affect anything.
This phone is supposed to get updates forever and always directly from Google. No manufacturer getting in the way of updates on this baby.
Other issues?..... I guess that there is glass both front and back so be careful with it. I've never broken anything on mine but I guess it's worth noting. If you're clumsy or drop your phone a lot, get a case for this one.
Is it? I've read about it and it seems it's an issue with the AMOLED Samsung chose for this phone, but that it can be solved with other RGB settings, slightly cutting back on the true blacks and whites.

Rewrote the OP, lol. I always write stuff I don't mean when I'm a bit angry. It's just that I'm tired of constantly having phones with issues. I exchanged the piece of crap One for this phone.
Hey Shawty. I tried the MEA update and personally couldn't see any snaring although some people claim it's still there. I must be blind because I looked for it.
Still I went back to my old setup as some mods didn't work on the new rom. Personally it doesn't bother me as I rarely see it.

I can say from my experience that it is software related. When I first got the phone I noticed it immediately, on menus etc. I installed an app that was suggested on some other threads about this topic which like you said changes something to do with RGB levels (I don't actually understand the issue/fix myself). Since the MEA update it has been less of a problem, I don't get it on the settings menu for example. But in another app (Light Flow) I still get a bit of smearing.

Sorry but have to refute this nonesense about the One heating up. The One does not heat up unless you're using it plugged in and proper battering it with a 3D game or something, and even then to call it hot is stretching matters. Warm to the touch is the best i've managed with it. Now the S4, that gets bloody hot, too hot to touch.
As for the issue at hand, can't be sorted as it;s inherent with all Amoled displays including S4, S3, etc.

I am perfectly well aware of that metal is an excellent conductor or heat and of course that is a good thing, but the heat was an issue, for me and taking into consideration HTC's previous history, I didn't want another One because I am sure it would have had several flaws as well. I returned to where I feel the most safe (and sound) which would be Samsung.
We'll see where the future leads me.

So just because your HTC One doesn't heat up, you're calling everyone else off as liars? The One I had must have been faulty because it actually got HOT and very uncomfortably so by not doing anything special. It got varm by just randomly scrolling around and got hot when I played 20 minutes of Candy Crush.

Good for you, I have both devices right in front of me.
I actually had an H-One replaced for thinking it was overheating, however after receiving the new one it has the same heat omission and it isn't really "uncomfortable" come on S4 gets hot too when multitasking.
The aluminium body is supposed to get hot its what aluminium does when a large battery presses against it fuelling a hard working CPU, mind you I dont believe you weren't working the CPU and it merely "got hot doing nothing special"(as for battery life comparing the two the 'One' has better battery life, mind you I'm using stock battery S4)
Plastic doesn't transfer heat nearly as well hence the worse battery life and most likely reduced life of the phone, not to mention the cheap look and feel. I don't expect my post to last here as it seems some biased mods refuse to allow any opinions to remain that may be even slightly objective towards S4, don't get me wrong I still really like the S4, oh well, care factor!
BTW I am not calling anyone a liar, however if you think your post is more truthful than mine then I guess you're judging people without hearing their opinion!

high end performance comes at a cost... do not expect a quad core cpu to be cool also give it some time till samsung s4 software is really optimized because its far from being fully ready

There you go again. You don't think it's uncomfortable, but I do. Yeah, the S4 does get hot, but at one spot only, the upper part of the phone, though it doesn't get all around hot like the One does.

Believe what you will, I cannot force you. I know the truth, the real truth. I wasn't working the CPU when it got hot, unless playing around iwth the phone means working the CPU a lot. It got blazingly hot by playing games.

I don´t have this anymore on latest MF8 on 9505.
I wore the Gear VR for 110 minutes, and not one overheating warning. I got suspicious and thought maybe they just got rid of the overheating warning, but for the whole 110 minutes everything played smooth. I would also occasionally feel the back on the phone, it felt warm, but not nowhere as hot as I experienced on the S6 Edge. I wanted to keep at it until I see that overheating warning, but I was getting tired.
On the S6 Edge, when you get the overheating warning, about 5-10 minutes later everything starts to stutter and lag. Almost no stutter or lag on the S7 Edge.
Also on the S7 Edge, everything ran much faster. Loading times on the S7 Edge were very quick compared to the S6 Edge.
S6 Edge .... anywhere from 20 - 35 minutes before the you get the overheating warning. Stutter/lag shortly after.
S7 Edge .... 110 minutes and no overheating message or any stutter/lag.
Battery ... I started at 82%, and after 110 minutes, ended up with 46% left.
Anyone else use their Gear VR with the S7 Edge?

Yeah, the water cooling is a very under-mentioned feature on this phone. I'm willing to bet Samsung added that just for the Gear VR. Either that, or just in case the 820 had heat issues like the 810 did.

When I was first setting it up. I did get a pop up message that "Download Booster will be temporary disabled for heat reasons" (not word for word message). But I was restoring, fast charging, transferring files, and etc. Never got that message again, nor any other heat messages. Nor did I feel any real heat from the back. So I'll excuse things that happen during initial setup.
It seems like using the S7 edge while fast charging at the same time, gets it the warmest, but that feels nowhere towards getting overheated.
Yeah I got that message for download booster too initially.... I am coming from my iphone (had the S6 but it melted always) my iphone just doesnt seem to get hot (or maybe the case makes me not notice) where as I didn't expect now on day 2 for this thing to still get hot like during a call... glad it wasn't on my face
From my experience with the Note 4 it really depends on what you're doing. I watched a 2 hour movie no problem. But if you switch between different apps like games to video streaming then the cooling message pops up.

You are right about that. The more I switched from app to app, the quicker my S6 Edge would heat up.
On the S7 Edge, I tried damn near everything that was free. Games like Dreadhalls Demo, Cosmos Warfare, Temple Run VR, Shooting Showdown and etc. Tried all the video viewers like the default viewers, Netflix, Milk VR, and etc.. Tried Jurassic World, Relay Cars, Marvel Avengers and all the free apps listed under concepts. You get the point.
I basically tried to get the overheating message on purpose. But failed.

It's a little different than just a heat pipe. It does contain a liquid within to increase the efficiency of the heat transfer.

Sure there's some liquid in it, it heats up and turns into a gas and then cools and back into a liquid, but to say that's water cooling is a bit over the top. Every aftermarket heatsink uses heatpipes but no one says "i watercool my pc with this thermalright heatsink".
Teardowns reveal no liquid (distilled water, coolant, etc.) in the pipe, it's just a plain copper heatsink. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZU9U72OU5s&t=4m25s)

IF there were actual liquid in the chamber the copper strands would help draw the liquid to the cool end of the metal pipe and recondense it. Because it's not actually liquid or vapor cooling they just act as an extension of the copper piping.

I haven't tried any demanding games so far unless Real Racing 3 is considered demanding. All the games I tired didn't run the phone hot.
4K recording ..... I can't tell, cause I tried most 4K recording in cool weather. But even at room temperature, I haven't noticed any heating.
I would love to hear an in depth review of the S7 Edge with the consumer Gear VR. I currently have Note 4 and had the innovator edition last year but sold it on after a few months. I've the S7 Edge on pre-order and was excited about getting the consumer version bundled with it. I was in a Samsung store today and tried the consumer version they had on display with an S6 attached and I was left a little underwhelmed. It's going back almost a year since I had the Note 4 innovator and despite my delight at being able to wear my glasses with the new version the FOV certainly seemed reduced and I could detect the edge on the periphery. But it was nothing major though, especially as I'm essentially getting it free of charge.
What I would really like to know though is there much of a trade off with the S7 Edge. I was so torn between getting the standard S7 or the Edge and decided to go with the Edge for the larger screen/battery but if it is significantly inferior to the standard S7 I can change my order. I was reading that John Cormack mentioned on Twitter that the standard S7 would be sharper with less FOV but that the Edge would also possibly bleed light and make it uncomfortable. He later apparently retracted the statement and stated he was thinking of the S6 and not the S7 however other forums don't take him at his word and believe the retraction may have been to do with bolstering the S7 sales. Personally I would rather just hear an honest review from someone that has it in their hands, I've been scouring Youtube and Google but all I ever find are mind numbing unboxing videos and no testing commentary.
If anyone on here has it I would be so grateful for an opinion.

No light bleed that i noticed on the S7 edge.
And the light bleed on the S6 edge was extremely minor, that most would have not noticed unless they were looking for issues.
This is of course with the cover off. I haven't even used the cover yet.

Hey everyone so I decided to try the daydream VR since my friend has It. I spend about 45 minutes immerse in the experience and all of my sudden my phone shut off. I took it it out and the phone was extremely hot!! I thought maybe it was dead. So I plugged it in. And it dint do anything at all.. at this point I thought of the worse and thought my phone might have overheated and fried the internal. My friend suggested putting the phone next to the AC to cool down. And about 10 minutes of cooling the phone actually turned on..
All I can say is beware of long periods of time in the VR. I for sure will not be using this..
I posted on this as well the Daydream vr Pixel combo, is dangerous to say the least.
Mine heated up so bad in 5 minutes. i could feel the heat radiate to my face through the unit.
I had to pay for my Daydream a few days ago returning it may be my best option.

I live In NY temp today was high 40s. And yea I did have a case. But I still don't think this is safe for your phone.

I agree it doesn't sound great, i doubt it will blow up on your face as the phone will self-power down long before then.
What case are you using out of interest? A thick silicon/rubber case will have a massive impact on the thermal performance on the phone. It will have the same effect as placing something over your computer fan outlet, eventually the system will shut down as the temp builds up.
On the bright side, I haven't seen any mention of any extreme thermal issues (phones will get warm when pushing VR content) so hopefully it is an isolated issue or is a software issue that can be patched.
Other than melting your face, how is the daydream experience?
Lol it is pretty nice,i found an app on the play store.
That had me in some girls bedroom while she was getting dressed.lol I was looking all around the bedroom.

That's a shame that it heats up that bad considering the phone has good thermals on its own. But it makes sense with the fabric insulating the phone keeping the heat from leaving efficiently.

There is no fabric that insulates the phone. The phone sits in plastic with rubber stand offs that space out the phone so it has a gap all around the phone.
I take my OtterBox commuter car off my phone when I use daydream and while the phone does get very hot I have not had a overheat message yet out has the phone shut down.

Ugh. Was hoping their would not be heat issues in the case...was so annoying taking my note 7 out of the case every time i wanted to VR...
Someone needs to come up with a case with a passive heatsink pf some sort on it.

Remember guys, any and all devices you leave the "light" on will get hot. Feel your TVs, even the LED get warm - hot.
While you're using the VR you've got the screen on and are taxing the Pixel in an enclosed visor. Plus your head is probably hot, esp if you're watching the prawn stars

yeah I tried my Note in the Gear VR (came free with it) was an ok experience but my god did the phone get hot, they are pushing the performance of these devices to the limits so it should be expected they get warm, but then there is a point where you should be asking if it was actually thought through, if the phone is overheating then that is a problem and something that should have been seen before now, but if the phone is just generally running hot I would see it as something normal when you are taxing the CPU and GPU to the limits. but if it is running hot to the point of shutting down something is wrong there.
Since this is the phone they used to build Daydream VR (only certified phone) I am sure they tested extensively. This maybe the reason for the low power version of the 821 instead of the higher performance version. The phone actually shutting off I beleive means a defective phone. Unless you just missed all the heat warning I would call Google and get a RMA before your battery goes bad permanently.
Even gear VR overheats it's just the compromise of the mobile versions for now.

What if you didn't use a case, and maybe put a spacer behind the phone so when you close it there is a space behind the phone for it to breathe....and stay cooler? Can't wait to try the headset out when it comes.

I had read that Daydream on the Pixels has an exception to the thermal throttle normally enforced in order to achieve the required 60FPS for the scene, therefore enabling it to push a little harder than most other 3D applications and inevitably getting hotter. As mentioned earlier it was probably all subject to extensive testing by Google and aids in the explanation to the lower clock speeds they have chosen.
I'm fairly confident that Google was confident the heat is acceptable and considering it's the latest and greatest from Qualcomm the only alternative would be some heat pipes and heatsinks sticking out of the phone.
Same deal with the Samsung vr
Got mine, got through the tutorial and it was already very warm.
It is nothing I can picture me using it too much anyway.
I have the Pixel XL with me almost always but I am not bringing the viewer with me all that often.
I've tried just holding the Pixel XL against the VR Headset and leaving the flap down. Seems to keep temperature down a bit.
I was testing it out that way but ended up on a phone call after about 30 minutes of use. (watched about 5 or 6 movie trailers in 4k and 360).
Phone was only warm to the touch. Temperature in house usually kept around 75 degrees.
Anyone else tried this.?
