I think the bars are inaccurate it's showing zero bars when it says 3g and internet and text messages work fine
Yea I've noticed the same thing. Maybe Samsung wanted to avoid a class action lawsuit for exaggerating signal strength?
lol right and at first i thought i had full bars since nothing was showing but the unlighted bars
It just seems like a minor issue. I've yet to experience poor call quality at zero bars... sucks because it's all in our heads really. Bars have taken over!
Your holding the phone wrong (sorry couldn't resist)
Lets take 2 possibilities...it is either a display bug...
or maybe just maybe..your signal is too strong which goes above the meter and shows 0...(that would be funny)\
more realistically look at this:

Interesting that may be true

Me too. In my living room I go between 0dBm and -111dBm but I have never lost 3g data nor had a call dropped. Although I can't see the dB reading while on a call I do see the bars go from 0 to 3 bars and as soon as I'm off the call and they go back to zero,
I'm thinking it's a software issue that will be fixed
Same issue here. Zero bars most of the time in my home but 3G is working and calls are fine!!!
It has a death grip
I notice that when I hold the phone, bars go down very quickly, but they typically come back up for the most part.
I set the phone down on my bed - bars go up to full.
I hold the phone naturally in my hand - bars start dropping one by one.
For the most part they hit 0 bars, but connection seems fine. I was on a call and made the bars go down. My friend on the other end didn't notice any problems with the line. I didn't notice any problems either.
I can replicate the issue easily just by holding the phone. Looks like Apple was on to something with their claims. I wonder if Consumer Reports will put this phone it's list of not recommended phones too...
Never lol

I have the same issue when i hold the phone in the lower left hand corner. I thought getting a case would correct the issue like on the iphone, but even with a case it still happens.
Everytime if i hold my phone normally, the signal starts dropping. I managed to track it down to the bottom part of the phone, just beneath the battery cover.
As soon as my hand touches that part the signal starts dropping from 4bars to 1 or 2 bars.
Anyone else has this problem?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Yeah,easily reproduced here too.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
yea, i had to return mine because of it. every time i used the keyboard, the signal would drop or even die out. hopefully the next one i get won't have the same issue, or at least not as bad as the device i had before.
Hope youll have it sorted out. I have 1 or 2 levels of drop only. Its a common problem with recent smartphone models? Strange.

The bottom of the phone is where the antenna is.
I mainly get one or two signal line drops when holding the phone with the keyboard open. Not a big problem.
But... WiFi seems to be a lot worse: if I don't touch the phone I get full bars, but if I hold it (keyboard open again) it sometimes can drop to one or no bars.
And I was laughing at the iPhone 4 users.
Might worth try to add isolation lol, like for iphones
I cannot yet reproduce the wifi thing tho when im further away it may indeed weaken.will test it further
-- sent from htc z using xda app
Wifi only drop one bar here. I'm 3m away from a n-router.
Isolation doesnt seem to work. It might just be a weak antenna.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Was able to reproduce a 1 bar drop from WiFi once, nothing since, and nothing from signal.
one bar drop. but no change in usage. iwould suggest ignoring the signal strength
Drops 1 bar here. Not big deal.
Same here. Drops one bar. Sometimes two. But i had exactly the same thing with my Touch Pro. As long as I don't get dropped calls, i don't mind.
Problem also on desire HD
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
My Wifi drops all the way to zero when using my phone with keyboard.
Tho, this is when I'm couple meters away from the router (2nd floor). When I'm on the 1st floor the signal only drops 1 bar.
FFFFUUUUUU
I just noticed this. I'm currently in a low signal area. Phone sitting on table: -103dBm. Using keyboard: -113dBm. 2 bars to 0 bars and even no signal.
How can they do this? ****.
Never experienced none of those issues. Wow that's crazy.

Like the iPhone, it is only obvious in low signal areas. Go to settings about status and look at the numerical signal. It drops quite a bit.
I did a test and dropped from -99dbm (7asu) to -112dbm (1asu) by deathgripping my phone. It went from 2-3 bars to 0 bars.

I wonder if its related to being made of more metal than usual devices, alu alloy of htc z.

I've noticed the death grip; 2-3 bars (!!) in some indoor areas
Maybe this is why I've noticed battery drains faster when leaving my phone face up than face down (poor signal = more power consumption to keep the link)
Hi everyone,
Bought my SNS i9023 on 12 July 2011 (Indian version)
I'v been noticing a possible DeathGrip Issue with the phone since i bought it. The WiFi Signal & the Network Signal fade out quite a lot when i Hold the phone in my palm (the battery cover i.e. the the back side of my phone rests in my palm)
I wonder if I am the only one facing this issue or are others facing this issue as well.
I for one have never noticed this, and I've had mines for about 3 months now. Maybe you should try to get it exchanged.
Well I'm guessing your hands are covering the antennae of the phone (built into the mobo of the phone) every phone willlose signal is the bones in your hand (our any other solid thing) block the antennae. My 2¢ worth.

I m pretty sure my hands are blocking the signal coz of the way i hold the phone. would love to see a lot of other people responding to this thread
I have a similar problem but I think it might be a problem with the device so I'll need to send it back.
My connection drops a couple of times a day. I thought it may have been related to the case I use but I tried it without the case and I have the same problems.
How is your wireless signal? My Nexus S is much worse than my Nexus 1 so that's why I think (hope!) the phone is faulty. Hopefully it's not just a Samsung thing.

In my case the Connection to the MobileNetwork/WiFi does not drop by itself.
The connection becomes weak only if i hold the bottom half of the back of the phone in my plam. I mean if the bottom half of the back of the phone is covered by my palm (my palm & phone in total contact).
I dont have any problems if I am holding the phone in a way that the back of the phone is not covered by my palm.
When the phone is left alone, there is no fluctuation in the connections whatsoever.

I'm having a serious weak signal with my galaxy s6 edge since day one. I tried to figure the problem till I notice when I hold the phone with my left hand and my hand blocks the antenna receiver which is in the bottom left , signal starts dropping till I have no bars.

Sorry but this does not happen on my S6 edge 64Gig. I wouldn't sell my device just for that though as I rarely hold my phone directly from the bottom, but hey if it's a problem for you I wouldn't refuse you to sell it if you not satisfied.

My s6 edge gets a great signal, better than my friends iphone 6. So all I can say is em,bye bye.
Tried to reproduce on my canadian s6 edge 128gb, covered it every possible way, and then just tried to completely cover the whole bottom part of the phone. The signal didnt change.

Good Call OP, you can head over to Swappa.com and they can help you get rid of the less than device.....
GPS issues on the Note 4 are well known and not limited to carrier. You will find all sorts of crazy fixes out there, but I will tell you what finally worked for me.
I noticed that every time I went to take a screenshot the GPS would suddenly snap back to working. After some messing around I realized that holding it by the sides with a little pressure gets it working. Basically hold it the way that Steve Jobs told you you shouldn't hold an iPhone and squeeze a bit. That always gets my GPS to work within a few seconds. It sounds crazy but for me I've confirmed it absolutely works.
Basically Samsung sucks at GPS in general, and especially with the Note 4. I think the receiver is using a poorly manufactured antenna that is the wrong size or something, and by attenuating the signal a little bit you can get it to clear up. It's like adjusting you rabbit ears and having them only work when you stand in a certain position... if you are old enough to remember doing such things.
Give it a try and report back.

Interesting. I'm really glad I'm one of the lucky ones that doesn't have any issues.
Is the hardware part of it loose or something?
I've yet to try it but I do believe it is an antenna issue. Maybe made worse by cases?
If I place the phone in the dash cubby of my car, it will lose gps signal.
But even when I have it on the seat next to me, it sometimes can't locate me directly and jumps.
I thought GPS status calibration would fix but I guess you have to do that every time you reboot?
It is my only complaint regarding the phone honestly.

I'd like to think for the most part I was one of the lucky ones but just yesterday morning I was using the navigation. It found me and plotted my route but when I started moving nothing happened. I squeezed the top of the device and it kicked in. The only thing I have been doing different is not using my case when the issue happened. Of course as tight as my case it it could be simulating the same situation as me pinching it. Or it could have been the initial cause for needing to pinch it.
Probably loose hardware indeed.

Yes, it's almost certainly a hardware issue... check out this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61755100&postcount=272 and the thread that it links to.
squeeze the sides and tighten the screws... it really works

Yup. The GPS test app would show 20 satellites in view, and none in use. No lock ever. I pushed on the back of the phone and it locked right on. It world's every time my gps flakes out.

Happy to report my GPS on Note 4 gets instant lock every time. Use a Samsung flip cover that is also a back replacement.
I have HORRIBLE gps signal... and the thing that sucks is I need it for work alot.. sometimes I'm using it and the signal starts blinking because it lost signal..and I won't get it back I leave an area or I just won't get it at all!! I hope the 5 has a much better antenna build..
Like others I'm having terrible luck with my GPS but it's only been over the last 3 weeks or so. No updates, no damage to the phone it just loses the lock on the satellites. I've tried every trick in the book with no luck. I need to call T-Mobile but haven't been in the mood to hear "we haven't seen this problem before" and wasting time on the phone with them.

Install "GPS Test" to see. I have Samsung Alpha and it get lock inside the buidling while the N4 sees nothing. I am mad. I hope N5 will be better on the GPS.
It's not a fix but what I do since I use gps for my work I put the phone SIDEWAYS in my cluster area and it almost instantly picks up gps.. it's what I have to do to get service if not it will be almost unusable. .hope that helps
I was reading about putting pressure on the back on another post and once I do that my phone starts working great... what can cause it to do such a thing?

I've been using it and I will get the coordinates then I will loose signal without moving. It's very inconsistent. The frustrating thing is it seems to be only over the last few weeks it's been happening.
I also had trouble with my GPS. I constantly get the "GPS signal lost" message, however this past weekend I tested and it seems that I get the problem when I put the phone in a certain position -on my lap for example or facing down. I have a Galaxy S5 and I don't have any issues at all.
Once I put the phone in the car mount, I don't have any problems. I guess is an antenna issue as others mentioned.

See my problems didn't start until I stopped using my caseology case.
Completely fixes my problem (as long as I'm holding it). WTF Samsung? Do I even warrantee it or switch brands is the question. Tweet #squeezegate at Samsung, let's see if we can get some attention to this manufacturer defect.
