Kernal/boot.img help - Continuum General

OK, I'm trying something with our continuums and it requires editing the boot.img file, which we don't have, correct? But whenever we flash a kernal, the file is listed as zimage, and our zimage the same as boot.img? And we do I find our kernal in our phone?

Sorry... been out of the loop. Samsung does their boot setup a little different than HTC or Moto... With Samsung, we have zimage, which is broken down into initramfs and a primitive file system, if I recall. The initramfs initiates the primitive cache system (which is an rfs file type... hence the reason we do it differently). Once that is initialized, it starts the boot process in the kernel.

That site may help you a little with whatever you are trying to do.

Can't find ext4 cwm to flash

My droid charge sits in the blue recovery and I cannot get it back to ext4 cwm or flash anything regardless. I recently had ext4 and I think I somehow tried to flash an rts rom.
I read somewhere its as easy as pie to fix if you flash a red cwm recovery but I don't have one. Any clues. Btw I can't boot into any rom

If you are trying to have a custom boot animation then just flash Imnuts' hacked kernel if you are on EC07. bootanimation.zip file should be in /system/media

I want CWM 5.8.x.x

It looks awesome, I've been sick of clicking the physical buttons over and over for a LONG time now. I know that there have been touchscreen driver improvements for use with 5.8+ and cm9, but what is the likelihood of us actually getting it? I really hope someone can make it work, I would be very thankful!

The touch screen cwm? Actually well get it once koush is finished. Our cm9 isn't buggy so it should work fine.
Sent from my Samsung Epic using CM9!
Yep it's being worked on. Koush said it was buggy and unreleasable. Though that was like a month and a half ago.
And we can support it after they fixed the touch drivers.
Ballin. Can't wait!

Cant you just flash the recovery zip?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA
And if that don't work flash cm9. With nyan4.2 with it baked in then flash back to cm7 and check to have the recovery reinject itself after flashing the rom... then you will have that recovery on cm7... worked for peoples rom! Just note that flashing another kernel overwrites it unless you remember to inject it after flashing... cwm backups are not compatible with twrp

Honestly I don't know for sure, I can't think of anything that it would bork. Reboot recovery is now linked to the proper partition so that should work fine, I'm gonna flash the AOKP 34 here in a bit and then I'll see if just flashing the recovery zip works.

Boot splash screen?

Can someone point me in a direction (this device or other) in order to change the boot splashscreen?

Sure. Are you rooted?
Sure. Yes.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
The files are in qmg extensions. Same place as before.
System\Media
Looks like the old replace the zip may not work here. I'm sure a hacked kernel will or has been released. Not too sure since I just step on the scene.
I'm working on this though. Maybe someone can chime in for a better solution.
The boot animation and splash screen are different . splash screen would not be in /system
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Hmmmmmm......Indeed.
I found a tool on IRC to help with compiling a rle file, however it seems the write protection enabled on the device keeps the change from sticking after reboot. Is there a write protection exploit for our device or even a way to flash it in there?

Flashing new rom

Hey guys quick question. J am unlocked, rooted with s off. I have aman recovery. When i go to recovery, flash zip from card it doesnt show any images, just some folders. I am assuming i want the one that says boot.img from when i extracted to the root of the sd but it isnt showing up. Do i need to rename it?
Sent from my LG-MS770 using xda app-developers app
If you are flashing a ROM you want to copy the zip file to your card.
From what you have written it sounds like you unzipped the ROM and copied the .img files to the root.
So if that is the case erase the files/folders you extracted and placed on your sdcard and then copy the zip file to the root. After that go back to recovery and select the zip you copied over.

Damn xda app I was trying to quote not thank. Could you give a link to the scripts you are talking about. Most times they are flashable from recovery but without knowing which ones you are talking about I really can not suggest what to do.

That script will only work on a sense Rom and only on the 5.0.7 base. Is that the Rom you are flashing?
