I have read and tried anything I could think of here.
I have downloaded RC29
Extracted the file to SD ccard formated to FAT32
Started up in Bootloader
Phone found the file and successfully installed
Pressed action button to reboot.
Stays in Tri color screen
I have tried the soft reset, but I am still stuck at the G1 screen.
I am not new to flashing and recovery, only to the G1. What am I missing?
Does it reboot and return to the tri-color screen, or not reboot at all? Did you try taking the sd card out and then rebooting?
The same thing happened to me, I downloaded rc29 to root my phone so I did the rooting and then I wanted to install the JF Rc33 update so I tried rebooting in recoveyr mode to install the update and my phone just got stuck in the G1 logo. It works on normal reboot but not in tecovery mode or when I press camera & power it takes me to a white screen with green letters and the little green android guy..... how can I fix that? I want the jf update. Is there any way of installing it without having to use recovery mode? Or is there anyway to fix recovery mode?
danguyf,
Thanks.
I just redid the RC29 boot off the SD card. Just to rule out some more issues, I formatted the card again (512mb Sandisk).
As soon as I hit the action button, I get the tri color bootloader screen.
I have tried:
removing the SD card PRIOR to pressing the action button
removing the SD card PRIOR to a soft boot (call, end menu).
I have been using a fully charged battery.

Just so we are clear, these are the steps you followed???
1. Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode:
* Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
* Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
* A new removable disk should show up on your computer. Right click it and select Format, and select FAT32 as the file system type.
2. Download and unzip the RC29 or RC7 image file. Copy the DREAMIMG.nbh file to the SD card. (RC29 for US, RC7 is for UK)
3. Turn the device power off.
4. Hold Camera button, and press Power button to entry bootloader mode. You should see a gray/white screen with instructions to flash your phone with the update on your SD card. If you don't see that, make sure you followed the instructions properly.
5. As per the on-screen instructions, press the Power button to start upgrade procedure. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS.
6. After it is finished, perform the restart your phone.
The phone is not mine. It came in to us to recover. It came in frozen on the G1 screen, so I cannot perform these 2 steps:
* Hook your phone up to your computer using a USB cable and then wait for the notification to show up in your title bar of your phone.
* Click the notification, and then click "Mount".
It does charge via USB and AC.
It is now powered up and frozen, but XP does find the Android phone and it shows up as a disk drive in device manager.
First off, who froze it?
Secondly, does the phone get to the homescreen?
The user brought it in at the G1 screen.
That is as far as it gets in power up.

i hope you have a computer and either an extra mini sdcard *1MB in size* handy, or a mini sd card reader handy.
format the card, fat32.
download the rom from here. *scroll down to downloads section and pick the appropriate one. rc-33 U.S. RC-9 U.K. ADP unbranded*
if it's already named update, transfer it to the card, if not rename it update, then transfer it to the card.
After it has been transferred.
place the card back into the phone. start the phone up holding home and end key till it enters the recovery mode.
you should see a list of commands with a leopard looking-like screen.
hit alt-w
then alt-s
after it is complete, hit back+home to reboot again.
Just wanted to follow up annd say thanks to everyone for the help. I did not get a chance to deal with it today, but I will post the outcome.
I have the same problam too.
I have JF 1.1 Holidey version and when I try to update it to jf1.5 it gets stuck on the G1 logo, I tried using differnet updates to and differnt sd cards
and even tried the JF updater and it dosent work, I'm a bit frustrated, my brother rooted the phone for and installed the RC29 rom and the JF rom,
it offered me a system holiday update awaile ago and when I updated it froze on the G1 logo after I waited a long time (about 45 min) I removed the battery and started the phone again.. then I saw about 35MB free space (before I had only 10MB) and I think that from that point it added the holiday but I'm not sure if it wasn't already before that.. I realy need your halp with this.. I can't find a way to boot my phone and start a bootloader..
p.s. I was able to get to the fast boot when I press the power + Camera but I don't know how to use it..

G1 homescreen freeze
Hi,
I have a G1, installed hero-rom from xda(Jacheroski 2.0). I found it pretty annoying because the phone was very slow etc. So i tried to go back to the almost original software.
1. started G1 in recovery mode(Home+power), alt+x, adb shell, #parted /dev/block/mmcblk0, mklabel msdos, Y, rm1, rm2, mkpartsfs, primary, fat32, 0, 8000(8 gb card), shut down G1.
Downloaded:
- Radio (from htc support)
- SPL (from xda)
- Rom (from htc support)
Copied those files to my SD.
2. started my G1 in recoverymode(Home+power), wipe, apply any zip from SD,
First installed Radio = succesful
Tried to install SPL:got an error in line.
So thought that I first need to reboot my G1(because of the radio)
I rebooted my G1. got a installation screen. then I restarted my G1 and wanted to go to recovery mode to install spl and rom. It was frozen on the homescreen. I can't do any thing. not recovery not the other one(camera+power)
Any advice?
My wife bought a G1 dev phone off of Craigslist not realizing what that meant. She just thought it meant it was unlocked. Now she is bummed that she cannot buy any of the cool apps from the store and a few other things.
How do I get the Dev Phone Firmware flashed to the normal RC33 or whatever it is? On a scale of 1 to 10 for tech savy I would ge myself a 5. So I don't know how to do much.
I did a search and tried adding the "DREAIMG.nbh" RC29 file to the SD card but all that did was bring up a while screen with green skateboarding androids.
you also need to flash the original spl. its in the first post on this forum

You can update it to JF ADP1.5....on that one you can buy apps....http://jf.andblogs.net/2009/05/01/when-is-your-15-coming-out/
Thanks, I appreciate that. I didn't understand everything in that thread though.
0. This is only verified to work for DREA100 and DREA110 devices. If you have a US or EU G1, it is most likely compatible. To check, boot into the SPL and confirm that the first word is DREA100 or DREA110. Please do not attempt to flash a SPL onto a Dream that does not fit that description!
How do you boot into SPL?
1. If you are installing onto a G1, your G1 must have a modified recovery partition. If you have one of JesusFreke's Android builds installed, then you have a modified recovery partition.
What does all that mean?
2. Download the desired SPL zip file (attached below), rename it to update.zip and copy it to the root of your sdcard. As usual, remember to use a USB cable with a ferrite core and dismount your USB drive before disconnecting.
How do you know if your USB cable has a ferrite core?
3. Reboot the phone into recovery console and flash the update with Alt+S.
What is the recovery console? How do I reboot into it?
if you are trying to go back to the stock firmware you need to flash the original spl first by adding that to the sdcard root as an update.zip. Boot using the home+power and then wipe and alt+s. then attach the usb, mount, delete the update.zip(spl) and add the dreaimg.nbh file to the root of your sdcard. unmount and reboot by pressing camera+power. it should recognize the file and follow prompts. lastly once it is done press the trackball to reboot. viola! stock once again.

Thanks for everyone's help. Do we have to have a ferrite cord or can we try it with a normal one?
And where is the SD card root?
The root of your SD card is what you see when you open it up in windows explorer.
the root of the sd card is /sd/file not /sd/foldername/file
Needs to be on the root of sd meaning not in a folder.

the root of your sd card means not in any folders. it's the same place you put the dreaimg.nbh file. e:/dreaimg.nbh(windows) not e:/dcim/dreaimg.nbh...or anything else. If you are using the original usb that came with the phone, no need to worry. if you are not sure, try and see if it works.
OK, I am following your instructions and I am to the part where I press home/back to reboot. Each time I do it just brings me back to the "Android System Recovery" Mode

i never said home+back to reboot. you have to be more specific about where you are at
double check with this to make sure you are following correctly. http://tinyurl.com/r6adqm
i don't think i'm off but it's Saturday!! i'm allowed a little mistake at least.
1) flash the original spl first by adding that to the sdcard root as an update.zip.
2) Boot using the home+power
3) then wipe
4) alt+s
(This is where I get stuck, how do I get out of this and back to the normal mode)
5) then attach the usb
6) mount
7) delete the update.zip(spl) and add the dreaimg.nbh file to the root of your sdcard
8) unmount and reboot by pressing camera+power. it should recognize the file and follow prompts.
9) lastly once it is done press the trackball to reboot. viola! stock once again.

if the spl has updated successfully, then try the call+menu+power (three fingered salute) way to reboot. if that hasn't worked, and if you are NOT in any update processes. pull the battery( i had to do this once ) ONLY IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF ANY UPDATES.

I did the update.zip with the original G1 file renamed "update.zip" and it said it was succesful, then when I rebooted it takes me right back to the screen that says "Setting Up Your Dev Phone". When I start up the phone it is still running the Dev version
Good, the last step you did with update.zip simply got the SPL back to the factory G1/T-Mobile SPL
Next: Did you then put the RC29 DREAMIMG.nbh on the phone?
follow steps 1-6 here under preparing to root:

After you have loaded the original spl as an update.zip you are still where you were. You have to then reboot into the bootloader (camera+power) and apply the dreaimg.nbh file. Do not rename that file. the bootloader should recognize it. If you successfully flash the spl, reboot, mount, add the dreaimg.nbh, turn off, reboot by using camera+power. you should see a multi-colored screen( not the android skating ) then follow the prompts, and eventually press the trackball and it should reboot to the state you are looking for. if not... something was not done correctly. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG>>>ANYBODY PLEASE!

I followed this post about installing cyanogenmod 7 onto an SD card to boot my nook color off of the SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
Everything worked great and it has been up and running for several days, very happy with the results.
Now I was trying to put gapps on the SD card and I followed the instructions shown below:
How to install market and gapps:
After you have booted into the CM7 on SD card for the first time and set up wifi access (important!)
Go to http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.ph...Latest_Version and at the end there is a table with various google apps versions. Get the one suitable for your cyanogen version (CM7 is the latest for now). The file is named gapps-....zip
shutdown your nook and take the SD card out, insert it into your computer.
Copy the gapps-... file to the SD card on the first partition (titled boot) without changing the file name.
Insert the uSD card back into the NOOK and boot into "Recovery mode." To boot into recovery mode: Boot normally into Android, then from desktop hold power key until a poweroff menu appears, In the poweroff menu choose "reboot", in the next menu choose "recovery" and press "OK". The nook would reboot straight into recovery.
So i have tried this several times and DL the file twice just to be sure but every time I reboot the system just comes up normally. I wonder if the gapps install package is named wrong? I don't know how to make this work.
Any suggestions?
Thank A LOT for your help!

turn on the NC, like normal, then power down, then you'll get option to reboot, reboot to recovery.
I'm sorry if my original post didn't make this clear, but I was trying to boot into recovery. I held down the power button until I got the shut down options and pressed restart then pressed recover mode. Every time I try this the nook just restarts in normal mode. I'm not sure if I've done something wrong or if this method doesn't work.
Just to give more information the file I used was:
gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip
I didn't unzip the file I just copied it to the SD card BOOT partition.
Seems like you've done what eggnoodle suggested and if it didn't work, the only choice is using combination of N & power button. It needs some skills.
Try that, won't hurt.
I tried that several times, and it didn't work.
Is there a way to verify if I am in recovery mode? I'm not sure I am actually making it into recovery mode.
Further down in the instructions it says that to install other stuff anything with the name "update-***.zip" will install on recovery mode. So I will try renaming the gapps file to this and give it a try.
If you see the "Penguin" with scrolling text running horizontally on the NC screen, then it is in the Recovery mode.
If you see the Android guy or CM7 logo, you are in the normal booting mode.
Ok, so my problem is that I can never get the nook color in recovery mode. Perhaps the instructions on the forum are kinda flawed.
This is what I am doing:
Hold down Nook button.
Hold down power button
Loading screen appears then goes blank
Release power button for less than a second
Hold down power button again.
Wait for loading screen to appear
Release power button
Wait for screen to go blank
Release the Nook button
Then the NC just boots up like normal. Is this the correct process?
The NC boots up normal if I choose restart in recover mode from the shutdown menu also.
Any suggestions?
As I said, you need some skills.
Don't panic!
After a few tries and when you get it in, you will mumble "hmm, it's nothing like the instructions, it's much simply than that, wheewwww"

Did you try going into recovery while in CM7 by powering it off and selecting reboot>reboot to recovery?
I did try that, just boots up in normal mode.
I cannot get this thing to work, I have also tried several different ways to boot up using the home button and power button I can find a combination that works.
so frustrating!
Maybe start over fresh with Cm7 and gapps install?
I intall CM7 and gapps at the same time...
Just to be clear I didn't try this because the instructions said do not do it.
Ok, so I reinstalled with gapps and cyanogenmod zip files both on the boot SD before it was installed and it took, but there were a few hang ups like it kept bringing in stuff from my phone when I linked to my google account. So I think I should be good.
Thanks for the suggestions.
That happen to me too. It installed a wallpaper that was on my phone that I no longer use. Strange? But as long as it worked, that what I cared about!
Yup same thing to me, it installed the wallpaper and some other apps.
Why won't it install angry birds, the market says it's not compatible? What the heck's up with that?

The new market has issues with nook color. Market is looking for a 160 density level when the nook color is set to 161 to avoid panics.
Ive been using LCDDensity from the market and choosing Density 160 and changing the drop down to killall and click apply (reboot)
after it reboots go into manage applications and do a force stop on the market and clear the data/cache
it will reload and you will see all the options until the market resets itself. very annoying i know but its a temp fix until someone figures out how to fix this

There is no "Thanks" option so I just wanted to say Thank you! The button combo for booting into recovery has been kicking my butt and this was simple and worked flawlessly!
Hello, my u8800 just died..
i got a blue screen a couple of time and had to pull the battery.
now it is completely dead... ? how so?
it was running MIUI just fine and i just rebooted it and got a blue screen..
What happens if you press and hold Vol+,Vol- and Power?
Can you still get into Bootloader?
Bluescreen usually wipes the Bootloader, but you can fix that if you can still access it...
In case you lost all the data in Bootloader (pink screen), format the partition with FAT32, create a folder called "image" and copy the following files on there.
EMMCBOOT - http://www.mediafire.com/?lb6ifvgk72iru4a
AMSS.MBN - http://www.mediafire.com/?d6r45q6p5gew59v
Recovery.img - http://www.mediafire.com/?57njygc8oianjac
Boot.img - http://www.mediafire.com/?6d5i0714a7o9z97
If you can't access the Bootloader (pink screen), I'm afraid it's going back to warranty.
same thing happened to mine, still trying to fix it. managed to flash CWM recovery like that but now factory reseting leads me no where, of course, and restoring a backup from the sd didn't work either, all i get is a bootloop.
i'm so very lost please help, tell me what you need to know to help me
DON'T factory reset or restore a backup! Once you've had a blue screen, you CAN'T restore or factory reset a Rom.
You should flash a custom Rom directly. Just copy the Oxygen.zip (http://sourceforge.net/projects/u8800oxygen/files/) in the root folder of the SD card and then wipe data, cache and dalvik cache.
Flash the new Rom by Selecting "install zip from SD" and select the Oxygen.zip archive, the installation process does everything else.

Thanks GOD!
It was completely dead, but when i wake up this morning i got it on with bluescreen again, hooked it up with my pc and copied the files u linked.
now it seems MIUI is booting fine again!
but how come it got wiped in the first place?
Not sure to be honest...It's some sort of miscommunication between bootloader and Rom (kernel) and Huawei designed a fail-over mechanism that wipes the bootloader (screen becomes blue when this happens).
Anyway, glad to hear that you got it going again.
wow thanks katu2006 xD I just realised how stupid I was
you see this whole thing happened, I think, because I tried formatting a NTFS sd card I put in the phone. I wanted to put files bigger than 4GB in it...
so when I got the blue screen and then managed to boot into CWM recovery, all I had to do was flash a ROM, I knew that, but my internal sd card was wiped clean and I couldn't access it in my PC when I plugged the phone. then I just figured I should get another sd and put MIUI in it and then stick in the phone LOL it's working fine now, thanks a lot
Glad to hear that you problem was resolved as well.
I have the same problem with my U8800. And I follow your direction and I can log in to the Miui rom, but it has the notification "Blank SD card or unsupported file system" and ask me to format the SD card. But when I format the SD card, it change into the blue screen again in the next reboot time. What should I do.

OK, you should copy the SD Card contents to your computer, format it with FAT32, copy the folders back and then try to boot in Recovery and reinstall Miui again.
I also had such a problem. And as in your situation, my solution was to copy those files into 'image' folder. Though, blue-screen-trouble is still actual and we have to blame only huawei-guys
Is your IMEI allright? after some of theese operations, I had mine nulled.

DON'T factory reset or restore a backup! Once you've had a blue screen, you CAN'T restore or factory reset a Rom.
You should flash a custom Rom directly.

I beg to differ - for me when I had a blue screen yesterday - tried everything other than reflash. In the end I pushed a clockworkmod backup to the internal sd card via adb, did a restore and problem solved.

Blue screen
I was stuck with a blue screen for days after i formated the internal mem, i got stuck until I came across your post . downloaded the files to image folder and here i am with a working phone, thanks a million.
Well. that's the sh#%*t I made:
I tried to revert to stock then I used this package: Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2.zip flashing it with vol. - + power button.
The problem is that the screen went on as it was install this update normally with the message "booting recovery kernel image", but, after spinning Android gears, the device is stuck at the green Android robot with the yellow exclamation.
If I try to boot with power button instead, then it's stuck on the boot screen Android logo (the shiny blue one).
I tried to reset and to flash another update.zip, unsuccessful. With the last ROM I had, civato Flexthunder, I had CWM, but now, neither it's menu is showed if I press only vol. - + power button - what I have is "booting recovery kernel image", then the Android exclamation on the screen. Notice that, when I was using that ROM, I had CWM. But I used Acer Recovery Installer to flash the US recovery from it's menu. After that, I installed CWM again with this Acer Recovery Installer...
In the end, I tried what I read here, but I can't solve on my own...
It's so confusing! How can I have my A500 back, please, someone!!!
Need to know how you got back to stock recovery? Did you use Acer Recovery Installer?
If so you should just be able to put a stock 3.01 image on your SD card labeled "update.zip" and recover from there?

Yes, K, I used that Acer Recovery Installer when I was still with civato's ROM.
So, from Acer Recovery menu, I flashed that "US stock recovery" version available there. Following that, I installed CWM from Acer Recovery menu again. So, I put that update cited above and... stuck on that!
mmm... but that update is 3.2 - I didn't try with a 3.01... let me see that...
UPDATE: the links from Vache post for 3.01 full packages are a kind of xml... It's not possible to get the zip files! Is there another available link, please?
I'm not even going to ask why you used Acer Recovery Installer once you had installed a rooted ROM, because I'm afraid of the answer .
I think I might still have a 3.01 at home, but won't be there until Wednesday.

Had the same issue, then I realized that the update.zip has to be on the EXTERNAL sd card...not internal storage.
Hope this helps.

LOL
I got the point...
So, I've found a 3.01 here. I'm going to try it now...
Nothing
So, I put the 3.01 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15379983&postcount=1
as update.zip in the SD card. Did it with vol - and power button. Again, the Android robot with yellow exclamation.
It's strange... everyone here did it and apparently it worked perfectly, why not in my case?
UPDATE: I changed the update for 2GB SD card. The progress bar went on briefly and so stopped in some point and, again, the Android robot with yellow exclamation.

Why dont you try the 3.1 Acer_A500_4.010.10_COM_GEN2 from Vache thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878
then run iconiaroot 1.3
The download is good.

I'll try it now, dude. Thanks.
I tried what I found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176632
and, after the progress bar go until almost the end, it stopped, so do the gears animation, and after reboot, now I have my device stuck on Acer logo screen and the message, in red letters: boot verified failed ...
Ok..
now then you have to ask..
What browser am i using to download this file.. How am i pushing it to the device.. Does the stock recovery like my sd card..
try downloading to using a diffrent browser / diffrent computer.. try pushing it to a diffrent sd card..
there is something in the above post that is consistant.. im guessing its one of the above i mention above that is your issue..
good luck..

Chrome.
And I'm pushing the update.zip with "send to..." right click option on the file.
Unbelievable if it's the issue... ?

The update zips are region specific i believe. That one doesnt look like its for your region. It can get confusing.

You can be right, but since it's not made here, I suppose any update.zip can be used... or not... but in fact I'm not able to know what's the specific file for Brazilian devices... or can I?
man, it's 1+ month tablet! How could I do that? crying out loud...
Take erica_renee advice......download the zip on your PC. make sure you extract the update.zip. from the file you downloaded. Open update.zip file and make sure it doesnt give an error. Im assuming you can use the same update as north america. I dont follow that too close.
If you have a micro card reader ...pop out the micro sd card and plug it into your PC and copy/past the update.zip to it....then put it back into the tablet and reboot into recovery....
that will at least remove some fault factors.
Edit--instead of extracting the update.zip file from the download you may just have to rename it to update
You got your UID Serial number from the USB? It will be 16 digits long.
If so, use a paperclip and power button to put it into fastboot and then flash it.

OOPS YOU ARE Correct . to flash with stock recovery.. only need to extract it to flash with cwm.. But i think its a bad download bad copy or bad sd card issue..
might want to get the md5 sums and check them before on the computer then again on the tablet... after you put the sd card back in the device.. I had this issue with a older 8 gb sd card back when acer first released the tablet..
Again stop trying the exact same thing. change one at a time and you will find your issue.. . AGAIN GOOD LUCK...
