CM9 RC1 feedback!! - Xperia Arc General

After testing CM9 for a while, I noticed that it is very smooth compare to the official Sony 4.0.4.
There is some noticeable lag but that ok this rom is just RC1.
The main problems are HDMI, FM, CAMERA (video & photo work fine) and the problem that they don't mentioned but I have is that the compass in maps keep spinning.

I've noticed there is very little free ram.

FXP's CM9 seems a lot smoother to me, RC1 is a bit too laggy for my liking.

Yeah! If you clean up everything you will have about 150 to 170mb of free ram. Less than Sony ICS I got about 180 to 200mb of free ram. I think zRam In performance setting might work. I'm not sure if it does.

Really? I never tried it before. I just knew that official CM9 came out so I try it. It really impressed me by the performance. I'll try FXP later if I have free time. I heard that FXP is and official CM9 is the same because FXP is working for CM9. Anyway, thank for your sharing.

It's more or less the same but there are subtle differences in the workings I think. I'm back on stock now with ArcKnight kernel which is snappier than RC1 imo, and that's even before I've removed any crap.

Sure ! After flashing the rom, go to settings, performance, processor change CPU governor to ondemand, change max CPU frequency to 1401 MHz. Then, use file manager with root access and go to system build.prop change ro.product.model=Xperia arc S. Done! Enjoy your Xperia arc S with CM9:angel:

CM confirmed that their boot.img is not working. Fm, hdmi, camera, wait for FXP and CM9 to fix it. There is no solutions for that.

everything works fine, nice rom :good:
the problem for me is, when rebooted, sometimes touch screen didn't work.

Thinkin' about tryin' the new FXP CM9 also, as I loved the CM7 update. Hope 9 is smoother and faster than stock ICS 'cause I really don't like the performance of my Arc after the update

What about the music player? Last I tested Apollo it won't detect the album art. It's weird that downloading album art is the default, while using your own album art is a premium feature.

I feel that my phone is out of date after updated to stock Sony 4.0.4 but now completely different

Sony still hasn't released ICS here in South Africa so I decided to go CM9. Just hope they fix all the things that aren't working. Other than that, I'm enjoying aosp android.

Galnet MIUI ICS 1.11.9 -> 2.11.26

New development by Galnet for I9100. Please note: This is NOT ICS porting , just ICS framework. All apk in it are NOT from ICS release.. only framework!
Loaded and will report how it tests. Installed without any issues at all, using CWM with full wipe coming from AndroidMIUI 1.11.4.
Areas of concern:
1. No service bug - changelog suggest it is resolved.
2. Battery life.
(not reporting problems, just stating what will be tested).
I started this thread as I have seen it on the AT&T forum, but actually it can be installed on the SGS2 I9100 and I did not see any thread about it on the SGS2 section.
Many thanks for the developers. Really appreciate their work, and I hope I do not violate any 'rules' publishing the link ..
Edit: 15 hours with original Kernel -
1. Battery life: Decent 4%/hr in moderate usage without Juice defender. 1% loss over night with phone idle.
2. BT - Nothing wrong with it. Paired few headsets, and a car BT easily, and steady. See edit 2 for a potential bug with non original kernel.
3. Reception - better than ever. with KI4 modem calls are clear (better than before) , Wi-Fi sensitivity is greater.
4. See edit 2
5. Browser: Works great with Opera mobile. Never liked any other one.
6. themes, skins, wallpaper: Supports all on-line (downloadable) ones from MIUI.
7. Update (KIES like) - works.
8. Undervoltage/overclock (setCPU) - not supported by original Kernel - untested.
9. Siyah 2.1.1 testing - What for ? happy with original.
Edit 2:
BUG REPORT:
1. Siyah kernel ver 2.2 works great with 1.11.9
2. Have some sleep of death issues with 2.11.26 combined with Siyah kernel 2.2 and setCPU . No UV involved to make it happen. Back to 1.11.9
2. Rebooting into recovery with charger connected (not PC) will guaranty NO SERVICE coming back (at least on my device).

This ROM is build on the ICS framework but the user interface is MI
so it looks like any other MIUI ROM.
what kernal are you using for this. I am currently using the cognition mod v1.5.1 with ninphetamine 2.1.3. wondering what i need to change before i flash to this and is there any bugs.
working like a charm! coming from miui 1.11.4, without wipe. Only cache and dalvik wiped.. TY!
How this be running ICS when we can't even get a stock ICS for the S2?
As the 3rd post states, it uses the ics framework. It is not a full ics rom.

Its a MIUI ROM, not AOSP or Samsung, so either you keep the original kernel that comes with the ROM (what i am doing right now), or you go with the few CM7 supported ones, like Siyah 2.1.1 or similiar. The ROM you are on right now is not MIUI, which is a complete different animal. Please read about it, before you jump into it. Some are going to hate the MIUI approach, looks and feel, but i am personally in love with their development, and world wide support .. They simply took Google's android and open source one step further (just my humble opinion) and came out with a ~100Mbyte image that has EVERYTHING ones needs in a OS.. and more..
1.11.7 + Siyah Kernel v2.2beta4
Everything's pretty smooth. Even the battery life seems decent for now. Testing needed, of course.

tested both
keeping kp8 for now, but without tw. opted for kp8 for now coz most features: camera, video works.
later, we'll just see
Using CM9 and loving it...still beta but stable as f**k and nice battery life. Only issue is the video codec (recording, youtube videos) as for playing videos i use MX video player with SW encoding instead of HW, and plays smooth as a slug sliding on butter!
None. I am a noob that knows his place.

Although I'm currently using CM9, I'm waiting for the same, the best of TW (like the video codecs) with the best of ICS. That said, I'm loving CM9 (for example, video recording may not be working yet but the camera is ridiculously faster)

I like cm9, when it have working video de/encode, it will be the best... imho
+1 CM9 (as daily rom!)
TW on KP8 suxxs ... ;/
+1 CM9, using it for a week now and it's stable like hell, fluent, true beauty IM LOVIN IT
I'm using CM9 as my daily rom. BEST ROM I EVER USED!
Went from CM7 to CM9, really stable, good music volume, the browser is great No video yet but otherwise its really sweet. Feel no reason to change!
CM9 all the way! It's very fast. I kind of want KL1 but I'll miss ICS in the first 5 minutes. So I'll use CM9 as it doesn't have any killer-bugs.
+1 CM9
TW was a nice addition in Froyo and Gingerbread but really gives no added funtionality in ICS. CM9 is a much nicer and more polished android experience. I really hated how ICS and Samsung looks mixed in xxkp8. I could have changed launcher etc. but going CM9 is much easier.

Sad to say I can't find instructions in their site, is this as simple as "fastboot flash boot" the "boot.img" inside the downloaded zip file, then flash the zip in CWM?
EDIT: I found instructions how to install. Will go from there

Also, there's a freexperia project on CM7.2

Is this better compared to the ones on the official site? Why on this they have gapps and baseband that needs to be installed as well?

CM7 from official CM and CM from FXP is the same because FXP work for CM and they handle all Sony and Sony Ericsson devices. CM7 from FXP update more often. CM7 from official CM website only update the RC version.
I see. I installed CM7.2 stable from the official one. It is less bloaty compared to stock based ROMs and custom ROMs. It handles processes and memory management better. Because of that, it is indeed FAST.
However the ADWlauncher that comes with CM7.2 ROM is either old or inefficient, and it stutters. When I replaced it with "ADWLauncher EX", lag/stutter was destroyed. Anyway that is an old fact already. ADWLauncher EX is really very good.
Thanks to your "catchy" title for this thread, I was able to install and experience CyanogenMod. I think I will stay with this ROM for some time.
When I get bored I will try CM9 next.

The annoying thing that I found on this last Nightly, is the rotation screen, sometimes when you totate to landscape, the screen shows only the middle of the image, rest is black.

Never had that problem
So after a week or so of use, I noticed I get strange battery drain in CM7.2 that I do not get in others. Specifically, I get 1% off every 30-35 minutes in phone idle (122 Mhz min), only thing on is GSM standby. For the other ROMs I tried 1% would last up to 90 minutes.
I've done checking what consumes it and its nothing, phone always in deep sleep. Nothing unusual also in betterbatterystats. Perhaps this is the trade-off of how this ROM manages things and makes it fast. Even my testing of Temple Run Brave runs great, no lags and instant response.
Also, I did not see Bravia Engine (in any options). I can't say if it is active already, I dunno. Was this implemented at all in this ROM?
Until I get tired of this and the mood strikes, I will try other rom again. However, I will always remember that this is the best rom I had tried.

Yeah! Battery seem to drain pretty quick. But there is no mobile bravia engine in this rom. Only in rom that base on official from Sony have this setting. Anyway mobile bravia engine only work in stock Xperia gallery.
I see. I better research more on the Bravia Engine if its just a placebo. As I know it only works on photos and videos when displayed on the phone screen. To be honest I never use stock gallery, I use QuickPic which is 10000% better than it, and for the video player I use MX Video.
In any case, I already left CM7.2 due to the battery drain. Tried JJHybrid ROM to give a chance to ICS again, but I really am allergic to the lag and overall slowness must be the hardware really being stressed by ICS.
Went back to Arconium 8.2 now and intend to stick with this (until a new ICS comes along again). Going thru all these ROMs make me appreciate the speed, response, and management of Gingerbread.
As far as experience is concerned, Arconium 8.2 is as speedy, fast, and overall like CM7.2 but without the battery drain and still has the Sony Ericsson experience (ie. launcher, icons). You have to try it, if you haven't.

mmm, That's not what I asked for. I'm not talking about the Launcher, just the navite rotation effect that CM7.2, CM9 and ICS have
I'm testing CM7 about one week, and, of course is very very fast, the best rom for our Arc, but battery drained "very very fast". I think that FXP need solve this (35% at night)
But, of course, great job FXP team!

Stock 4.0.4 vs CM9

After playing with CM9 for awhile. I just feel that stock is More reliable and fully function. So back to stock what I said in the title:
Stock
Pros
More free ram
Sony feel (UI)
Fully function (HDMI...)
Smoother (Ex. Open app setting a lot faster when have many app installed) CM9 just kill me
Battery little bit better
Better camera ui
Bravia engine
Xloud (did a very good job)
Cons
Noticeable lags
UI (not pure AOSP)
Not Xperia s UI
Not customizable in stock.
CM9
Pros
Pure AOSP + Customizable
Little bit better in performance
Cons
-HDMI
-Light sensor
-many little more
App in setting open super slow when having a lot of apps
Battery drain like a burning paper
That it for now ! Thank for reading
another pro for the cm9 is the compatibility with apps... ics stock is just... awful in that
But Stock is More Customisable.

Same here, tried cm9 & aokp. Faster than stock, true, but nowhere near as stable. I'm even contemplating flashing a gb rom, ics is good on the arc but not as quick as it was with 2.3.6.
Stock ICS is poor especially for gaming. It's either CM9 or GB for me. I'm on FXP130 at the moment and I love it. Never used HDMI and use Skiffta for DLNA streaming.
Sony made a mess of ICS IMHO.

Install a custom launcher like Apex then you have all the customisation. This is android dude you can customise any ROM if you want. After trying lots of roms including cm9 now back on stock, rooted changed all what i didnt like (Launcher, music player, dailer, etc) now having a stable and customised rom with all features (XLoud, Bravia, HDMI) i paid for when buying the device.

Stock ICS is poor especially for gaming. It's either CM9 or GB for me. I'm on FXP130 at the moment and I love it. Never used HDMI and use Skiffta for DLNA streaming.
Sony made a mess of ICS IMHO.

I disagree, I have not found a better ICS gaming rom than the stock ICS. CM9 is slow and has little ram for gaming.

For me, I think CM9 is a little bit better for gaming. Now I optimized my phone everyways for gaming. CM7.2 can handle game the best, even if my Xperia arc S underclock to 1 Ghz. For gaming and everyday use, it is absolutely no problems at all.
cm9
the problem is the arc has hardware limitations it is only a 1ghz single core processor so withe the custom roms and all there accelerators it may have unstable affects on the device
I use CM9 by FXP on daily basis. No complaints so far.
Anyway these ROMS will never have xloud or bravia engine as they use sony's proprietary files, so better stop expecting

What rom to choose for U8800pro?

Hello,
I may sound like a noob, but thats only because i didn't play with these roms much so far... so, yes, i am a noob
I managed to upgrade my U8800pro to 4.03 official thanks to some of you.
Now i am looking through the forum and many threads and many many custom roms, but i cant decide which one to go with since all seem to have problems...
So the question is: which rom is the most stable+fastest for U8800pro? It would be also nice if normal features (calls sound ok, network works ok, "notification drawer", gmail, youtube, play store, gps, wifi, tethering (wifi, usb), music playback, if possible radio, if not also ok) are also present and working. I really hope there is such rom out there. I dont mind if it is based on 2.x or 4.x (ok, i prefer 4.x, but if some 2.x is better, i will go with that), as long as it works well.
I also have U8800 and there it is easy choice. Go with Aurora, and everything (well, almost everything) works as intended. I also looked for Aurora mod for U8800pro but the best i could find is a mod for Aurora 4.x, while there is already Aurora 5.x out there.
I will post instructions for upgrading 2.2 to 2.3 to 4.03 later on, since i had problems upgrading myself for future noobs to use.
And thanks in advance

Stock Gingerbread
best ROM
nothing can beat it..
ALL custom ROMs for U8800PRO have one thing or the other that'll leave you unsatisfied..
Stock ICS is bad for gaming.
all JB 4.1 have only secondary mic (the one beside the camera) working.. plus, camera doesn't work properly except in stock/pre-installed camera app.
all JB 4.2 have buggy/broken bluetooth
If you don't play heavy games (even Subway Surfers is HEAVY for this phone ).. then you can stick to official ICS.. just unlock FPS (that "install-recovery.sh" thing) and all Temple Runs will be fine.

I'll have to disagree!
Rittik's CM10 ROM is probably the best choice. It's really fast, no lag, and with RAM Manager Pro and History wiping (long press home button), there is absolutely no problem (provided you disable apps to run at startup with Autostart).
Gaming is as smooth as stock GB, except for the games that are ridiculously heavy.
I hope I helped =)

I disagree with both of you. Our friend needs a stable ROM. So I suggest him to try Gingerbread(2.x.x) custom ROMs like THE STALLION ICS look, CyanogenMod 7.2 and MIUI. Everything works like a charm, no reboots, good RAM managment, a lot of extras(the last two ROMs) and no battery drain.
You can downgrade to Gingerbread by flashing step 2 from an official GB ROM.
How is this development?

What about wrong messages in systemUI ?? example- "Screen timeout set to 15 years"! ... "Screen timeout set to 5 weeks"!
"SDcard is damaged or has unsupported format"
"4G WiFi icon" instead of "USB icon"!
"No signal icon" instead of "GPS icon"..
What about disturbance in calls? You can hear your fingers moving on the phone's back! bcoz main mic isn't working at all!

The Stallion ICS look has no SRS WOW HD.. no DSP Manager too.
CM7.2 is buggy.. buttons backlight.. and proximity sensor.. Also, Awesome Beats™ does not work on GingerBread.. Beats™ is the only thing that can beat SRS WOW HD... CM7.2's DSP Manager is "just okay"...
Kalo is not themable.

i have flashed almost all of the roms available for more than a week each (time required to actually see if there are any hidden bugs)
The roms with the least bugs are Kalo and stallion ics.All the others have important issues (for me) thats the reason i didnt stick with them.In general:All ics roms are heavy and laggy, not for games ofcource. All "jb" roms have very serious issues such as awful memory management and awful incall sound, the phone's most important function, broken bluetooths, broken gps, broken wifi, and a lot of smaller bugs.
All miuis have issues, mainly low memory because of the heavy ui.
Cms are almost ok but not quite there.
I didnt want to return to gingerbread after all these beautiful roms but they are just that, beautiful on the outside ugly on the inside!
we have to focus on gb roms, they are the most complete unfortunately, unless a real dev shows up and work on sources

Aurora ics 4.1 with fixed "white screen" is the best rom I think. But it is my IMHO.

that's true, that's why they are so fast. But i can add some of the missing features with apps.On the other hand i can't fix memory leaks and incall sound with an app or play heavy games..I could use chainfire 3d for boosting performance for games, but guess what,it doesn't work with jb!

My favorite ROM still remains CM7.2 modified by bronxitas with forumber kernel. The ROM isn't really on XDA as far as I know but it's based on the Moihack release most likely.

I didn't expect you would say that. I don't think anyone will agree with you.
Stock ROMs lag a lot, have locked fps, are unrooted, less features...
korekore I think you 've tried the MIUI I'm on with right now.
It's fast, it has a lot of useful features, it has the most free memory I ever encountered and minimum battery drain(all night 1-2% loss).
B U T I have installed only 51 applications like every ROM I used in the past. I mention that because you said that problems start to appear after a big number of installed apps(>100).
I think this ROM siuts me better than anyone other and it was a pleasant surprise for me.
I think I gonna stick with it.
Everyone has his own priorities and his own criteria.

I wasn't a MIUI fan but I love this ROM.
I like the feature you can access notification bar from any application even in full screen.

It supports another file. I don't remember the name(something like 99unlock).
Even though I prefer MIUI or CM7 or Kalo's ROM. That's my opinion.
