After playing with CM9 for awhile. I just feel that stock is More reliable and fully function. So back to stock what I said in the title:
Stock
Pros
More free ram
Sony feel (UI)
Fully function (HDMI...)
Smoother (Ex. Open app setting a lot faster when have many app installed) CM9 just kill me
Battery little bit better
Better camera ui
Bravia engine
Xloud (did a very good job)
Cons
Noticeable lags
UI (not pure AOSP)
Not Xperia s UI
Not customizable in stock.
CM9
Pros
Pure AOSP + Customizable
Little bit better in performance
Cons
-HDMI
-Light sensor
-many little more
App in setting open super slow when having a lot of apps
Battery drain like a burning paper
That it for now ! Thank for reading
another pro for the cm9 is the compatibility with apps... ics stock is just... awful in that
But Stock is More Customisable.

Same here, tried cm9 & aokp. Faster than stock, true, but nowhere near as stable. I'm even contemplating flashing a gb rom, ics is good on the arc but not as quick as it was with 2.3.6.
Stock ICS is poor especially for gaming. It's either CM9 or GB for me. I'm on FXP130 at the moment and I love it. Never used HDMI and use Skiffta for DLNA streaming.
Sony made a mess of ICS IMHO.

Install a custom launcher like Apex then you have all the customisation. This is android dude you can customise any ROM if you want. After trying lots of roms including cm9 now back on stock, rooted changed all what i didnt like (Launcher, music player, dailer, etc) now having a stable and customised rom with all features (XLoud, Bravia, HDMI) i paid for when buying the device.

For me, I think CM9 is a little bit better for gaming. Now I optimized my phone everyways for gaming. CM7.2 can handle game the best, even if my Xperia arc S underclock to 1 Ghz. For gaming and everyday use, it is absolutely no problems at all.
cm9
the problem is the arc has hardware limitations it is only a 1ghz single core processor so withe the custom roms and all there accelerators it may have unstable affects on the device
I use CM9 by FXP on daily basis. No complaints so far.
Anyway these ROMS will never have xloud or bravia engine as they use sony's proprietary files, so better stop expecting
Stock

cons -----what does that means?

tested both
keeping kp8 for now, but without tw. opted for kp8 for now coz most features: camera, video works.
later, we'll just see
Using CM9 and loving it...still beta but stable as f**k and nice battery life. Only issue is the video codec (recording, youtube videos) as for playing videos i use MX video player with SW encoding instead of HW, and plays smooth as a slug sliding on butter!

+1 CM9, using it for a week now and it's stable like hell, fluent, true beauty IM LOVIN IT
I'm using CM9 as my daily rom. BEST ROM I EVER USED!
Went from CM7 to CM9, really stable, good music volume, the browser is great No video yet but otherwise its really sweet. Feel no reason to change!
CM9 all the way! It's very fast. I kind of want KL1 but I'll miss ICS in the first 5 minutes. So I'll use CM9 as it doesn't have any killer-bugs.
+1 CM9
TW was a nice addition in Froyo and Gingerbread but really gives no added funtionality in ICS. CM9 is a much nicer and more polished android experience. I really hated how ICS and Samsung looks mixed in xxkp8. I could have changed launcher etc. but going CM9 is much easier.

Definitely Imilka's AOSP. Clean, fast, stable. And what's more important - it's pure ASOP, no touchwiz, no unnecessary tweaks, just Android as it was intended.

Stunner, stunner period!!!
It depends. Would you like a complete stock Android experience, or would you like Samsungs S-Pen apps and features?
For the first one Imilka's is great. ICS Stunner, stock android, with lots of tweaks and options, is also a good choice.
If you would like the second, Midnote 3.0 is pretty good.
I'd recommend trying at least those three roms out.
It is difficult for people to recommend roms because of each user specific needs and requirements.
You will have to test them out yourself.
I'm on Midnote 3.0 at the moment and it's pretty good for normal use in my opinion.
Midnote because it's the only one that's given me fully functional Flash.

I tried ICS for the past couple of days, was using Stunner and Imilka's. I used Midnote 3.0 for 5minutes, realised my modem was not working and switched roms (lazy to fix hehe .. All ROMs were speedy, especially setting the UI options to 0.5x performance (not sure what is the exact name of the settings, all i know is that its in developer settings). I can't comment much about the 0.2GHz increase, but it didn't really bother me when i was on LP1.
Between Imilka (was using v7), Midnote 3.0 and Stunner (4.3, latest LP5), Stunner suited me the most because there were less bugs, the ability to change from phone to tablet with more convenience. Mainly Stability/functionality/convenience (eg toggles) issues. Battery life on ICS was not bad, draining 1% for every 1.5 hrs of deep sleep in 2G+Data. However running apps caused my note to be warmer and drain was higher compared to GB.
However Rocketrom v23 + Franco Test kernel still pulled me back to GB today with S-pen full functionality + stock photo editor/ on the fly editing for screenshot. Stability and awesome battery life contributed much as well.

Battery is almost always better with stock, while AOKP seems a lot faster(no touchwiz to slow it down) and smoother. I for one have always been a fan of CM, but lately I have not really felt the urge to go over to CM, as the stock rom comes with a lot more features and is pretty smooth(enable GPU Rendering and HW Composer). The clock, camera, motion controls etc. makes it a lot more difficult to switch over these days, but one should always try it out for oneself before making up one's mind.
I agree, I wanted a phone I could put CM9 or CM10 on but all the Samsung goodies are compelling and I find myself waiting on the next stock leak and not interested in CMx at all.
i wish beats audio would work on JB
I agree with all of the above. I love CM and AOKP and their unique set of features and vanilla goodies, but Samsung have really done a number on the S3! I find myself flashing the latest leaks almost straight away. They've just included so many useful features into the OS that I've become reliant on that, while I certainly prefer the vanilla look and speed, I don't want to sacrifice such genuinely useful features for it.
Except S-Voice of course, Lloyd* only knows what convinced Samsung it was going to be of any use to anyone - didn't they try it for themselves first?
Mind boggling to say the least. I do have to say though, the latest AOKP build looks mighty interesting with its tablet UI feature - wonder if it's done in a similar way to ParanoidAndroid?

The latest experimental build from Codeworkx is definitely faster than stock dli8, and smoothness ia pretty much on par. Still a couple of bugs to iron out, but once it gets to a stable release I could see me switching over for good.
With SGS1 and 2 I used CM until ICS leaks come out, since then it is not worth the performance "difference", comparing with what we loose
First thing I do is install GO EX launcher and delete TW

i have desire Z
I LOVED sense in every way - it's so complete out of the box and very visually pleasing, but it was a bit slowish, terrible multitasking, and battery performance suffered.
I'm using mimicry for the last 4 months and, I must say I'm quite happy, apart from MMS not working (seems to be some ICS general if you use separate APNs for data and mms) - It's blazing fast, multitasks and has at least 50% more battery efficiency.
I dislike all phone/dialer/contacts alternatives to sense and ICS (holo) theme, but I'm compromising for performance and battery life.
Sense for eye candy, AOKP for performance and extremely much tweaks. I run MIUI on my One X now, and it’s perfect.
Sent from my Jaffa Cake using XDA App
Isn't Sense 4.0A from the HTC One V meant to be pretty lightweight, and more so than Sense 3.6? When I get a Desire Z I'm going for either Gen.Y Vision Sense 4.0A or an Andromadus CM9/ 10.
It is supposed to be lightweight - I haven't yet tried Gen.Y, but I doubt it will be lighter than sense 2 was with gingerbread. I hope I'm wrong.
And CM9/10 based ROMs are still smoother and offer better battery life than sense 2 ROMs.
I Love Sense!
I think it's the Android's equivalent of an iPhone in terms of slickness and UI design.
However, i found the best "Sense" version to be the good old 2.1 (with Sense 3 lock screen) and everything that came after is too heavy and a lot even lack features! While 2.1/3.0 gives you the best Performance/Features combo even for older phones.
When i don't use a Sense rom, then i try to make the AOSP rom to look as close to it as i possible can but every once in awhile i try a real Sense cause i miss it's visual aspects.

AOSP, hands down. AOKP's and Others just simply... start to lag after a day or two. Months on them and I simply can't take jerkiness and RAM lags, and of course I appreciate dev work, this is more of a phone memory limitation, and AOSP fits just right.

Hey guys. Let's discuss about the ROMs we use.
So I've tried both TouchWiz and AOSP style ROMs before. These are my opinion for them:
TouchWiz:
+ great UI
+ more features than AOSP
+ has TV out
+ less bugs
+ multiwindow
- sometimes slow and laggy
AOSP
+ great advance features
+ mostly customizable
+ super fast and almost lag free
+ try new versions of Android
- no tv out
- no sim card contacts support
So can I get you guys's opinion?
It will be great if you can introduce me ROMs that have TV out and probably many Samsung features too.. Best is 4.2 and onwards
Thanks ! Hope to hear from you guys
For me,stock is better for daily use.AOSP are also good but one thing that i hate about these roms is bad battery life. With stock,i can get 5-6 hrs screen on time. With AOSP,i get 3-4 hrs screen on time.

AOSP being super fast and lag free on the S2 is a myth really. HW composer does not work on non samsung based roms meaning no project butter. That alone makes stock based roms a much more fluid experience even if it may not be as fast at opening apps for example.

I find roms like CM/OMNI better than stock in many ways, but I can't stand camera drivers, these are terrible In TouchWiz we have all sorts of enhancements like real time focus, blinking detection and for me it's the only disadvantage of these roms.
is there a port of tw for ASOP 4.4 builds? i dont like the ASOP notification bar .....is hideous and has way less functionality
Aosp based - no project butter
Camera is pathetic
Battery life poor
Superb performace
Happy feeling to run latest android
Highly customisable
Sammy rom
- slow bt fluid
- superb camera
- bloated (can be removed)
-much better handling for high end games
- touchwiz ui (I like it more wid touchwiz)
-good battery life
-feeling of being ancient (when u run 4.1 even when kitkat has been launched for months)
