I saw this posted a couple times in the development threads. Everything except the Ramdisk is easy, Once I tried to implement that it got a little confusing to me.

Hi, there, guys!
A friend of mine gave me yesterday an Atrix 4G. I would like to unlock its bootloader, root it and hopefully install the best available rom for it.
But the thing is that I can't find where to start from
There are a lot of threads regarding what I want (I've been reading through the forums for the last two hours) but I am still at a dead end..
My main problem is that most of the topics are about 2.3.4 android version or AT&T Atrix models. Plus, most of the links are dead...
The Atrix I have now is android version 2.2.2 and System Version writes: Version.4.4.20.MB860.Retail.en.GB
As I said I would like to test it with custom roms, but for starters, I would be glad if someone could point me to a way to simply upgrade to 2.3.4 (I don't care for now for unlocked bootloader or root - just want to see how it is in 2.3.4, perhaps perform a backup and afterwards try my luck with custom roms..)
For the record, I tried Motorola Software Update and reported that I am using the latest version..
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer
P.S.: Shame on me - wanted to post is Q&A forum.. Sorry for that - please move if necessary!!
Check out Swiftks guide that's a sticky in this forum.

Hello, and thanks for your help... I think I am getting somewhere...
I followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423 to unlock my bootloader and then I followed Swiftks guide you pointed me at and downloaded CM7.
Now I am about to follow Swiftks CyaogenMod Install Guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19986512&post=234) and I hope I will succeed..
I will report the result - thanks a lot again!
He knows his stuff so following his guide should work out well for you, happy flashing!

Did that same thing a few weeks ago. It's much better on this side. CM7 is awesome!

Try the update first, go into settings, about phone and there you'll be able o get an OTA update.
Had already tried OTA - no joy..
Anyways, I've been using the Atrix since Friday and the thing is a real beast after everything I've installed.
I never close any apps - on purpose - I only "minimize" them pressing the home button. It always has around 500MB of free RAM. The thing is a speeding bullet..lol
I only wish it had a more "standard" screen resolution (some apps don't work full screen) and a better camera (it is good but not as good as the arc's)
Look into either 1080p camera on Olympus or for droid3 camera in the ATRIX forums that should give you the outstanding camera you are looking for and remember the ATRIX is VERY powerful and our devs are the best around B-) with their help and our hardware we can make the ATRIX just as good and usually better in any field compared to another phone >.<
Hit thanks if you found this useful

if you want good and fast rom you should try a Cm9 it's great almost stable ,and very quick . ( quicker than cm7 for sure ) i did not have any battery drying
go for CM9 and enjoy that ICS goodness =)
Which CM9 release are you referring to?
I have found:
[ROM] CM9 a multidevice collaboration by multiple devs
[ROM] Atrix CM9 [ADT's SelfKANGish builds]
[Kang] *Unofficial* CM9 and CM7 Kangs/ROMs
Is it any of these ?

I've ran the top 2 you referred to and both run great other than the known issues. My phone has better luck running the ATRIX cm9 [Ad's SelfKangish builds] not sure why but your experience may be different. Both roms are fantastic and are being updated frequently.

OK, thanks a lot!
I will try them and see how it goes!!!

I'm running the first one and I am amazed how stable it is. Going on three days and I don't plan on going back to cm7. So far the only thing I'm not liking is wifi speeds are not what they should be.
I know the droid x is a dead phone, but can a developer, or would a developer make a jellybean rom for the droid x. i would be all out to test everything out. i would appriciate it
Please don't post questions in the development section.
Developers over at Rootzwiki are working on porting Jelly Bean over to the Droid X.

oh sorry and can you post a link to the thread
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/29434-jelly-bean/page__st__80
As mentioned above, please don't post questions in Development forums - post them in Q&A (or General if there is no device-specific Q&A), if they've not already been asked.
Thread moved.

There is actually a couple JB roms in the works. We started a new repo for JB last night and have started merging items in.. nothing new to respond to about it but it will happen
Can't wait
Hi XDians,
If any senoir member can write a step by step guide to convert (PORT) Galaxy SII rom to SII G version then it will be helpfull tohave a lot of different ROM's for the G version.
Please try to make it. We need futher more rom in G as it is picking up in mass and active members....
I would love that too but open in Q & A because all the members now wont answer and tell u wrong section

More and more roms is not a good idea... i like having each rom of different type.. like aokp, miui and now codename android... more roms ll not benefit...
Anyway there are no. Of porting guides which you can follow on xda already....
Please search a bit...
For eg. To port aosp rom cm is taken as base and app, font, framework, media folders are replaced by the rom to be ported.... and then in lib folder android_runtime.so is replaced and at last build.prop is edited... and if u r lucky then it ll boot
Other way is to compile from source Nd fuss is already in the process of completing the guide when he is free.... look up first before posting...
Creating a thread for a request should be the last idea and that also in Q/A section

Really helpful incarnation. The idea behind the forum is interaction and to learn - teach - learn.
We need a place to interact. This is not the matter of Q & A. This is more than that...
You said "if lucky then " it will work. We at XD don't depend on luck but we relay on effort....
anyhow thanks for the reply...
Looking forward for support and encouragement

This absolutely does not belong in Development, it belongs in General, where it is now. If you didn't make it, it doesn't belong in Development.

By being lucky i mean that all ROMS cannot be ported for any phone. One has to choose the phone (which is as close in terms of software and hardware) from which you want to port to your phone.
The method of replacing folders that i wrote is kinda for NOOBS, but heck who cares if it works i had tried to port slim jb(i9000), remics jb (i9000)and super nexus(i9100) and succeeded with nexus and remics jb.... the slim jb didnt boot unfortunately.
Whereas the method to compile from source is a better and an elegant way of doing this, and it requires some knowledge of git, linux
Fuss is busy in making a dualboot kernel for us but he confirmed completeing the thread that explains compiling aosp roms from source
If i helped hit the thanks button
Great help. Thank u for thus detailed explanation. Just now saw the work of fuss... let's cross fingers and wait
Waiting patiently for the update and a good guide

I found a deal for like $40 for a Droid x n if u guys look at my past projects i want to contribute to this forum so got 2 questions
1. For the ics roms(cm9 or gummy mainly) are kernels flashed with them.
2. Main issues with ICS roms
Thanks to anyone who replies
----------------------------------------------
If helped don't be afraid to hit the thanks button it doesn't bite lol
No kernels are flashed whatsoever due to the Droid X's locked boot loader.
For more information on ICS and Jelly Bean, check over on Rootzwiki.

I searched around a bit and couldn't really find an answer. I see an Original Nexus 7 Dev forum and a Nexus 7 Dev forum. Will all the roms work on any Nexus 7? Why 2 different forums?
If it's anything like the Note 2 forum, the original development is reserved for ROMs that are, well, original, whereas the Nexus development is ports, and builds based off of stock. They should all work, just read read read the thread before flashing.

Hmmm thanks for the responses but it still seems kinda vague and redundant. Both forums have CM ROMs and AOKP ROMs. Both forums have ROMs based off of the stock ROM. Maybe they should just join the two forums.

Original development= coding done to source by op developer.
Development = sources of those many original works forked and cherry picked into a single Rom of choice by op.
Or... if in a non nexus section, any work based on oem firmware.
