Replacement of Motherboard Flex Cable - Desire HD General

Hi all.
Not long ago i tried to fix some issues of weak GPS status in my DHD, and in the process of work i accidentally broke contacts of gps at all on the motherboard flex cable.
That's why i bought new motherboard flex cable from parts4repair.com.
After i receive and install this cable, it became clear that GPS is not working with new cable (GPS contacts there is fine).
There are also problems with the decrease/increase volume. Visually contacts for volume buttons on the new cable are different from the contacts on the original flex cable, which was originally installed in the phone. Photo of differences is attached.
Old cable contacts for volume:

New cable contacts for volume:

In total, I tried to replace cables from original to new one and back for four times and the results were the same each time:
- with the original cable functions of Gps and volume work fine (GPS is working when i connect simple conductor to the place of GPS contacts on the motherboard flex cable instead of broken ones),
- with the new cable (from parts4repair) these functions do not work at all (even when i connect conductor to the GPS contacs).
Thats why I concluded that the new cable has issues.
Is here anyone who knows this sphere? How to define exactly is this new motherboard flex cable is broken or not?
Maybe new cable need some preparations before install.

i do sir. On your old contacts there is a silver switch as you describe a 'sphere'. using tweezers peel up the tape material carefull keeping it intact, and then take that tape and silver dome and place it over your new contacts (that is the actual mechanical switch that you are transferring). That should fix your volume problem

thanks for your reply.
Yes maybe i can fix volume issue with that solution, but that is not the main problem.
Most of all I am interested in fixing the GPS problem.
And in addition i searched for photos of these flex cable in different stores, and on the photos in other stores that cable has silver switches on volume contacts. But my new cable has not.

ya, ive no idea why yours didnt come with the switches already attached. unless maybe they were in the box still, woulda been a small tiny piece of cardboard.
as far as gps, id be willing to blame faulty cable entirely

Me too.
I contact the store via "Return Request", and first of all they told maybe i fix cable not well and asked to fix it again and tell them a result.
In first mail i send them a photo i of my cable and their engineer told, that cable looks fine.
And now i answer them that i made many attempts to fix cable, but the result is zero. -_-
Now waiting for their reply.

Anyone have a broken Wizard?? Need parts ASAP!!

I ripped the ribbon cable that goes from the LCD housing to the main housing while I was replacing the LCD. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Don't Panic!
hi,
have you tried reconnecting it? I don't think all of the data paths are used on the wizard ribbon cable.
if you look at the connector and trace the data paths on the ribbon, you'll see that only the paths down one side actually go to the connector and the others don't go anywhere.
I have ripped my own cable through two of the paths on one side but when I connected it back together it still worked (although I didn't fully re-assemble the thing).
let me know if this helps.

Keyboard Problem - solved!

A few days ago i replaced the earpiece from my qtek 9100, While taking it apart i had trouble separating the small keyboard cable from the mainboard (not the big ribbon cable). When i wanted to put the cable back in position i noticed a small piece that had come loose from either that cable or the mainboard.
Since the keyboard isn't working anymore, i wonder where this little piece belongs to....is it the end of the keyboard cable or does it belong to the connector on the mainboard?
I would be very happy to know which spare part i have to order to make my Wizard work again, or even better....is there anyway i can fix this???
I made a picture of how my connector on the mainboard and the end of the keyboard cable look like now, and i made a pic of the little piece that came of (i put the stylus next to it show its size).
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Problem solved! I found out the part i 'broke' was the nook (right word??) of the connector that holds the cable in its place; i somehow managed to put it back in place and after some moving around with the cable it was attached properly again and the keyboard started working again.
So...this topic can be closed!

Loose Connector on Phone - Need help

Hi,
The connector on my touch (mini usb port) has somehow gotten loose or something. Everytime I connect the phone to charge or sync......the slightest touch/movement throws it off. I know there may not be much I can do right now except maybe replace the motherboard or something. Just needed some info if tht is indeed the way to go....or is there some other solution or a fix that any of the geniuses here can help me out with
Thanks in advance
Hi... apparently this does happen quite often with this connectors but it doesn't necessarely mean that that connector is overall loose.
Try to check if this might be your case.... On some devices I've noticed that the metal strips within the connector (in the phone, top part of the connector usually) looses away from its original position, if its not broken you may be able to unbend it and restore it to the original position with a thin pin or something of that sort. This will make things work again.
To prevent this from keep happening just be carefull when you plug/unplug your cables into it. Be gentle when inserting the cable and make sure to put the pressure to insert it only when its in the exact position.
hope this helps... good luck

I thought I had this problem, but it turned out to be a faulty USB cable - I think the wires were loose where they joined the connector. Since changing the cable I've had no problems.

HTC Hero USB / EXT port wear

Hi Folks...
I've been using a Hero full time for just over a year, and lately have had problems charging it. Seems like the USB / EXT port has weared down to the point where the cable doesn't contact as well as it should.
Anyone else had a similar problem? Wonder if this is fixable, or time for a new phone?
If you're talking about the cable just fitting loosely, you can always put a little bit of pressure inside edge the metal end on the cable to slightly bend it outward and it will help it fit a bit more snug.
If you're talking about it actually making contact loosely on the inside, you can always get a small piece of scotch tape and put it on the outside of the large side of the metal that fits into the phone, it will help push the contacts closer to the inside of the hero's usb.
Thanks for the suggestion, ill give that a go....

Same issue here, will be trying suggested solutions.
But I see no answer to your first question: Anyone else had a similar problem?

I had this issue with 3 of my usb cables that have pulled out while using the phone in disk mode and in the car charging. I used the method to slightly bend the connector outward on the cable itself and worked fine for me. One cable is a 12" that I use on my netbook, the other 2 are 3' -- one of which I use in my wife's car for charging and the other I use on my home desktop PC.
But there are other cables that I have not had issue with --the OEM cable I use in my car and I use a different cable at work. That said, in my case, it seems the issue is more with the cables then the actual port on the phone. Either way, by using one of techniques I suggested previously and what I've mentioned above, I have no issues now. I hope that clarifies the answer.
U seem to be right..... Different cables, diffferent results.....
Bought new ones and they work beautifully
I find this incredible, my hero's usb port is still really tight after over a year of use--to the point of being hard to plug in--especially the wall charger cable (uses the full ExtUSB?) which I use every single day. What do you guys do to the poor things?
My 3.5mm port has gotten a little loose though (shear force on the connector no doubt) but bending back the copper "spring" a little has fixed that for now.

HTC HD2 do not work the volume key and not loaded OS

Hello! do not work volume keys and may not enter into bootloader, operating system does not loaded, tried to rearrange the firmware and then it gives an error that this firmware is not compatible for this version of the hardware device. Cable with side volume keys is work! the problem with the motherboard, how to install the OS on this device? I would be very grateful for the help!
i guess you have to have your HD2 repaired first as the software is dependent on a good working hardware.
Can anyone knows how to cause butloader without side volume keys? or can someone already had this problem and knows how to solve it, please share experiences
Well, i guess you can take apart the HD2 and then try to start it into bootloader mode by prying off the volume tape/contact dome from the volume down contact and then shorting it with a piece of metal...

It is also possible to be a faulty connector on motherboard or even some contact on main flex ribbon in same connector area.
yup ask someone who can open the device to check it
He is now in the the best master of our small town. I think that on Saturday when it will take will still try to disassemble and repair, I will write here on Saturday. Thank you all!
