You must have a kernel that can be overclocked. Stock Acer kernels can not.
Here is the only OC/UV kernel for the a500;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703590
Also, I suggest you "un-install" either setCpu or SystemTuner. You should only run "1" overclocking application. I prefer SystemTunerPro. Others prefer SetCpu.
Have fun!

Yes it fits. It's a size 39cm, which is perfect for the 500
EZ_Terry should have a CWM flashable zip. I would think you have a Custom Recovery installed? Like CWM? If not, you will have to install one.
All games and apps should still be there after flashing the kernel. However, it is advisable to do a CWM System Backup before ever installing anything.

You should ask Ez_terry on his OC/UV kernel thread what is required. He will have the answers.
As with "rekaveri" and getting future updates, you 50% broke that when you rooted.

I was wondering about the overclocking kernal for cm7. just how do i put it in. Do I have to do that when I first install or can I add it later. also does it really help. I mean is the difference really noticeable or not at all. I am still deciding if I should do it or not.
Kernels are flashed through ClockworkMod and can be flash anytime after you flash a rom. If you use the search bar you can easily find what particular kernel works for your setup.
OK, I think I found the right one but I was also wondering if I could install it when I first installed cm7. When I installed it I saw that it was searching for the kernel and for gapps but didn't find the n and skipped it. Could I install it then

CM7 has the ability to be overclocked as it sets.
settings > CM settings > performance > CPU settings.
just be extremely careful when Overclocking devices. it can takes it's toll in the long run.
and the g/apps are not kernel dependent they are ROM dependent.
OK but what do you mean by gapps are not kernal dependant

On *UNIX based devices. They have a section of the firmware called the "kernel". The kernel accepts the coding, binary and scripts from the RAM/ROM and tells the hardware how to act, what to do, and when to do it.
The g/apps have nothing to do with the kernel.
The g/apps are Google's property and cannot be included in AOSP based ROMs. Those ROMs are developed from Google's code. And developers do not have the ability to add those at will. So we must flash them after/prior (depending on he ROM) to get the Google Apps.
YES! DO IT!
for me its like day and night, it so much smoother with dals OC kernel. and yes you can flash the OC kernel any time. you can flash cm7 rc1 then OC kernel in the same boot. or you can first install cm7 to check it out for a while and then later flash the new kernel. if you planning to flash dal's 6/18 kernel, make sure to get his app NC Tweaks.
NC Tweaks here:

You place the over clock zip file in the root of your sd card and flash it through cwm like you would a rom or gapps. So for example you would flash cm7 then gapps then the overclock kernel.

When you move from stable cm7 to cm7 nightly the new kernel is included. However the included kernel is overclockable only to 975mhz. If you want a higher clock speed you'll have to use dals 6182011 kernel, up to 1200mhz.

I'm not following you cannot use just a Cyanogen(mod) kernel. They are built into their ROMs.

There is a Clockwork ROM Manager and a ClockworkMod Recovery image.
Together they are known as "CWM" Since one is a recovery and the other is a ROM manager.

I would suggest, since you are already running 7.0, check the link Kyrillos ROM v7.1 and update your ROM to v7.1 (its so much better, though optional), post that Flash G3Mod v 1.6 Kernel.
Then using Set CPU you can OC more than 800 Mhz.
Note : Dont forget to read the instructions carefully for Kyrillos 7.1 ROM, G3Mod Kernel and SetCPU.....remember, you do all this at your own risk..check my signature for my stats...

Go to 7.1 link given above, and save the file in your SD Card and rename it as update.zip
Then from CWM recovery, install it and you would have 7.1 (read the link, you got to have 7.0 installed to install 7.1, which u already have)
2ndly as far as OC goes, no one would want to have their cell die..my question is Do you guarantee that OC at 800 Mhz will not make ur phone dead? (just a food for thought, dont make this bug you )
What i normally do is, using SetCPU i OC only while playing game..i normally keep it as 600-1200 MHz, on demand.....after I am done...i set it back to 200-800 Mhz on demand...and I normally play for a couple of hours at stretch...nothing has happened to my phone so far...but at the same time, I know when you run at max speed, you are bound to tire early....decide what you want more

thx for this help !
I'm looking forward to do this update (didn't know it was possible with that zip)
Some Q:
- Will it keep all installs, settings and apps as they are now? (I have K7.0-OC)
- I have G3-1.7 (looking forward to the battery fix), won't it harm this kernel or will of flash the fugumod again? (and do I need to reflash afterwards?)
- I have ext4 with many installs, won't it be damaged after updating?
- I don't have a swap, is it needed? Does it make a difference? (in the g3mod app I've set all to ext4, does this move the swap to ext4? It's 500Mb and half used by now...)
I wouldn't want to ruïn my system now, since it's finally running (not always smooth, dough...)
I suggest using fugumod ultra as that has an OCed bus so games wont lagg.

Dont worry about the quadrant score, its misleading.
You can get a higher quadrant score by some tweaks, but more importantly.
See if your phone is more responsive, much faster, no lags, no freezes. If it is there, quadrant doesnt matter.

Brother, it does not ask for wiping, you have to do it manually...Also Supercharger doesnt work for me however lagfix does, but again I would say more than quadrant score, you should be concerned about the performance of the phone and responsiveness.

Hi guys so I have a problem.
I downgraded my OTA 3.2 upgrade via "Method 2" which i'm sure you all know about. (Download update.zip and then flash to 3.0.1 and root)
Then I installed the LightSpeed 1.0.7 ROM and I flashed Thor v3.9R3 Kernel (for stock 3.2) and rebooted my device.
It works great only problem is I can't overclock which is what I wanted to do in the first place. I open setCPU and then go to "voltages" section yet it just force closes on me. I can't do anything about it.
What should I do? Install a different ROM and reflash the kernel? Or maybe flash a different kernel? Please help guys cause I really want to overclock it to around 1.4....
PS Newbie here so don't rage
well the ROM has nothing to do with overclocking the tablet. it is the kernel. i have never tried thor's kernel, I use taboonay's and it works wonders on my tablet. I would recommend it to you because it works and i can overclock to 1.64. try reflashing the kernel you have now. if that doesnt work, try another kernel

Also, I meant it says, setCPU has stopped unexpectedly.
Do you still have root? Did you wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing kernel?
p.s. by the way Tabooney is a ROM name. Richardtrip's kernel is named "Villain iconia kernel".
either Toobany or Lightspeed, you can try to install Villain_iconia_kernel 3.7, this package will overclock your current ROM.
Installation Instructions
flash it like a rom, don't wipe
Please do a backup before trying these kernels. Even if it works fine for me doesn't mean it works for everyone.
