Ok here is the situation.. I rooted my phone. Installed titanium backup rom manager, wireless tether and root uninstaller. I have made a backup and removed some bloat via the unistaller app.
Now I have tried used odin success with that until I go to reboot into CM. I get the following err message
The first part in yellow letters
Install from package, finding update package, verifying update package. Then in red letters E: failed to verify whole-file signature E: signature verification failed Installation aborted.
Sorry if I gave too much detail just wanted to be specific cause small things seem to be what kills most people.

Do yourself a favor and download Root Explorer from the Market so that you can apply the the file supplied in the zip.
Thanks I will give it another shot after work today.

If you are trying to install gb manually, it will not be labeled update.zip. you need to actually choose the zip from your SD card
I'm rooted but with no custom rom, I did install koushs bootstrap but then removed it using root explorer,, and after it says apply patch it says "system/bin/logwrapper with a bunch of numbers do you think there's an error there QUOTE=taterDX;12917845]rooted? or were u rooted?

I don't get what you mean, there's no other option in recovery that lets you choose it just says install update. Zip QUOTE=Jmoney47;12923123]If you are trying to install gb manually, it will not be labeled update.zip. you need to actually choose the zip from your SD card[/QUOTE]
make sure u r rooted and installed rom manager, and boostrap from market. click reboot recovery in bootstrap, then go to rom manager and click flash cwm then reboot recovery. choose install zip then find the zip to install. that should do the trick. always make sure u backup first... no im not responsible for u destroying ur pbone or causing a catastrophic global event ;p hope this helps.

You are going to need to go back to full stock. 2.3.340. Logwrapper is part of bootstrap.
You will have to sbf back to stock then go into stock recovery and run update.zip.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
sbf, root, and to pick a zip off the sd card, you need bootstrapper. no way around it (unless you rename)
If you are going to the ota gingerbread and not the one from tbh then you just need stock recovery. If you are using the tbh rooted gb then you will need to root and have droid 2 bootstrap not droid x bootstrap.

Yes.sorry for not mentioning that...
The original root.zip also installs a version of Superuser that doesn't work with stock ICS. You can go to the Superuser site and download the 3.1.3 ARM zip...that's what I ran when I rooted. Either way!

Re-download the image your trying to flash.
As an MD5 is a checksum, meaning if the MD5 isn't valid something has gone wrong with the download, hense the Check Sum is incorrect.

Had the same problem myself.
The 4.2 update won't install if you changed anything in /system
An example of how you might have done that is used titanium backup to uninstall a system app or use the integrate updates of system apps into ROM option.
The solution is to restore what has changed. For example, if you removed a system app that came with your nexus such as that Korean keyboard app (which a lot of people seem to have done) you need to somehow get a hold of that apk and put it back into /system/apps or the update will not install.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Can confirm that any changes to the system in any way will stop the device updating via ota.
I moved apps and froze some installed some custom changes to system ui etc the normal stuff you do when rooted. The update downloaded fine but would not install.
Thankfully I had a cwm stock backup, hid root using voodoo ota rootkeeper then was able to update to 4.2 then restore all apps and data using titanium backup.

Thanks for the help I just used wugfresh and the tgz file for 4.2 wiped everything but no worries there. Got 4.2 running all I have to do is root

Situation : I'm on JellyBlast3.0.4 with Merruk 2.0 pre-final kernel.
After flashing kernel on JB3.0.4 .. i wanted to update su binary but could not.
Though the su is working fine (prompting and proving root access) but i'm unable to update its binary (ss attached below).
What i tried : Tried to re-flash 'update.zip' (though its already rooted) but cwm showed .....blah....blah.... E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted.
Then tried to replace the old su binary from its location with the updated one(attached below)..but failed..since as soon as the old file was removed, root privilages were lost and i was popped with an error saying 'your device is not rooted'.
So, i decided to reflash the whole rom and kernel once again but in the end its the same result : cannot update su binary!!
And hence i'm Here
Please, help me out since i'm still new and would like to do it on my own but.. don't know much.
reflash rom and flash otas in order 1,2,3,4 , THEN update su binary and AFTER THAT install kernel

Sir Anmol,
i cannot understand what exactly u mean by 'disable superuser' !!
and about removing superuser.apk : may i do that with root explorer or L2SD is explicitly required?
but i'm afraid i may not want to go with those 'removing' kind of steps because i already did the whole process of flashing frm start to end many times and now tired and want to settle with some less riskier ways!!
Anyway, thanks for your reply and support :highfive: :good:
try this bro maybe it will help.flash it with cwm, mount everything.

Did as u said : remove superuser apk and reinstall from market.
But still the same..
Finally, to me it looks like a problem associated with the kernel.

And by the above link, I think he means, download Super SU from the Play store...install. Once you open that app, it will tell you that you need to update your binary. Click "Normal" and it should work.
