ok i am learning, i have my bravo rooted now, i have the ginger break on there and all i put the cm-72 nightly rom on the sd card. i booted up with the blue led and held volume down and this is what i got, reboot, boot, system, recovery ,tools and shutdown. how do i get to the sd card for the rom. i dont want to screw up . also is that a stable rom.
You need to install 2nd init defy recovery first. Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599672
Then go here to figure out how to flash cm7.2:

Most of the info should be there, don't forget to thank the author for their hard work!

Yeah, pretty much that.
To answer your other question, yes, that nightly is a stable rom.
I also ported a CM9 release from yesterday over to the Bravo and its working really well in the initial first 24 hours. I'm also an ass who didn't post install instructions either, but they're the same as CM7's which is to install 2nd init, reboot to recovery, wipe data/factory reset, flash rom, flash gapps, reboot. If you're going inbetween releases (like cm7 0605 to say 0610) then all you have to do is wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, flash rom, flash gapps, reboot.
And if you didn't know, skeevy420 is a freakin' boss and will help with everything you need.

hi, i have been reading up alot today on how to root and install a rom on my xoom, i rooted it fine then i went to the ics thread and downloaded the latest build, v17... put the zip on the sd card and went into recovery mode, choose to install zip from sd and installed it, then went to reboot device and it rebooted but came to a black screen that says android across the middle, its been on that screen for 20 mins now, help please lol
sorry... sorted problem, im guessing its bcos i wasnt installing google apps from zip too, sorry again
Honestly I have run into the same issues...hold down the volume up button + power...your Xoom should reboot.
Then you see the red Motorola logo wait 3 seconds and hit volume down...you should see "Android Recovery Mode" in the upper left corner.
Hit volume up to select....your device should enter recovery mode.
From here wipe data factory reset...wipe cache partition...then go to advanced...and wipe dalvik cache.
Then go to install zip from SD card and reinstall the ROM and Gapps and you should be fine, the first boot can take up to 10 minutes so don't panic...

No, don't be sorry. That was a great explanation.
I know you got it fixed but I will say this:
Always do a full wipe when flashing a new rom. In this case, the ICS build was a new ROM and you should have wiped.
Usually you do not need to do a full wipe if you are just flashing a new build of the same ROM (if you go to a new nightly for instance). Just need to clear cache/delvik and reinstall gapps.
Hello,
bricked my defy a few days ago after rom flashing failed. Phone wasn't booting properly, always showing the big red 'M' letter. Fixed it via rds tool, roms are running again but they don't keep the settings.
After every reboot I have to do systems setup again (language, accout, time). It's like having a wiped phone.
What's going wrong? What can I do?!
Few odds:
- can't wipe dalvik cache in recovery. Something pops up very short, couldn't read.
- cannot install apps. Market doesn't start Download.
...
Flashed my rom+gapps again. This time market tells me there's not enough memory on my phone.
Anything's wrong with my recovery? How do I install a new one? Via sndinit again? Any alternatives?
Hi there,
I had exactly the same problem few days back when I tried to make my phone dual boot and wanted to run CM7.2 as primary ROM and CM10 as a test ROM. Experiment failed miserably and the CM7.2 was wiped out and on top of that CM10 was overwritten as primary ROM. Then the same problem as you. It was going through boot loop and every time I had to start the phone setup.
I had to flash SBF using RSDLite and root it again using superone click.
Then installed the CM7.2 again and then later flashed CM10 Nightly just on top of the CM7.2 with out wiping the data.
CM10 I used was Quarx one from Aug 25th and it works great.
I know I am not that smart but I try stuff so I can experience latest stuff.
Not sure if this helps but, let me know if you need more details.
Regards
Kalyan

Maybe you should start again with flashing a stock sbf...

I had original 4.1 + root + twrp
in TWRP i wiped both cache partition and dalvik cache
then i flashed with paranoid
I didnt factory reset, but in this case (as I think) it was not necessary
Am I wrong?
BTW -stock 4.12 is on board
Going from stock or from any rom to another . I always do factory Reset Format system dalvik and Cache...
With paranoid there are way to many framework changes to do it any other way. Going from paranoid to paranoid say version2.3 to version 2.6 you would only have to wipe as you did..
Paranoid is on the verge if huge changes You might wanna wait until version 3 comes out... Read the last two pages in there thread .
Good Luck..

Thanks for the video. It came just in time as I just purchased a used TP that had an older version of android ICS already on it and I wanted to upgrade but seeing as how this is the first device I have sort of inherited already rooted, it is hard to just jump in and know everything that I would have learned from the beginning like i did with my previous phones.
Anyways, I did everything you said except I used the newest AOKP rom. But my tp is still booting to the older version of android that I had on it. Any ideas? Feel free to pm me if you prefer that.

If the AOKP ROM is using a unique uImage file, then you may see two different entries on your moboot screen for two different Android builds.
What does your moboot menu have in it?
Maybe your install failed. Try downloading and flashing it again. If you're trying AOKP JB, you should wipe both /data and dalvik cache to avoid a boot loop!
If using AcmeInstaller3 remember to rename the ROM with ”update-” at the beginning so that it looks like update-AOKPJB_UnOfficial.zip

I believe it was the "update-" thing that was keeping it from updating. I followed another video tutorial which provided files that had the "update" in front of them and it worked.
I haven't tried yet but now that it worked will the regular method of wiping and flashing through recovery work? (Like, if I want to try out different JB Roms) Are there any files that need to be in a particular place for the recovery method to work? I tried that method first and it would never take, would always revert back to the original version. Don't know if, because I just jumped in and haven't been here from the beginning, I am just missing a necessary step that is hardly even talked about anymore.
Love your work Rev! Thank you again for everything that you do!
Update went like clockwork, unfortunately I can't seem to get the camera to work (not a terrible loss, but I was sorta excited to see it actually working with this release).

I can attest to the improved battery life on this cm10 build. Amazingly, it holds battery life when it's sleeping now.
Thank you so much for taking the time in making the video for us. Your instructions are easy to follow, hard for anyone to mess up.
(The hosting site for the files is not working, not sure if you were aware)
Hi, I have CM9 running on my TP. With the latest release, the camera works great. But before updating it to CM10, I'd like to know about the issues currently in this build.
Thanks.
Where does one go when the goo.im site appears down, to get the needed files? Mirror somewhere?

Don't go for external mirrors unless some recognized developer suggests them. Best will be to wait for goo.im to come up again, being a prime site, it won't be down for long.
The goo servers do appear to go down on occasion. They always come back up a bit later.
Problem with installing GAPPS using ACMEInstaller3
Excellent tutorial for an idiot like me. Thanks for again for the guide! Question:
I followed the instructions step by step and was able to get CM10 installed successfully. However, I wasn't able to get GAPPS installed using this method. From researching I understand sometimes there is a problem installing GAPPS through ACMEInstaller3 and one can simply get GAPPS installed through CWM Recovery. However, I would like to use/have TWRP instead so is there a way to get GAPPS installed properly through ACMEInstaller3 and then I can install TWRP through GooManager?
Alternatively, is there a way to install GAPPS without using CWM Recovery?
Or, I guess I can install CWM Recovery first, then install TWRP Recovery, then remove CWM Recovery while keeping TWRP and not go back to the stock Recovery? I tried to search the forums and wasn't able to find instructions on removing CWM Recovery WHILE still keeping CM10 and not go back to the Stock recovery.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.
@reverendkjr - appreciate your videos. they're awesome. definitely helped me (and several other friends) many times and saved a ton of time. super easy to follow.
Yes you can install TWRP normally, flash gapps in CWM then install goomanager app, open and click the 3 dot menu and install custom recovery script then it will install it
Now using a root file manager go to the directory called boot and delete uimage.cwm.img (this is from memory but still should be correct

My goodness you have forgotten everything, you will need to install acmeuninstaller 3, moboot, CMW and the rom you want along with the relevant gapps. Sounds complicated this thread will make it easy

Great vid!! Finally got CM10 on my Touchpad.
Hi
I have installed CM11 (4.4.2) on Defy and it is working fine except the battery.
This entailed installing TWRP
Earlier I had MIUI Pikachu edition.
Questions
1. How do I install or restore my MIUI backup again.
2. Also I would like to downgrade to CM 7/9 which is more stable
Any links or step by step suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks

Probably you need to flash sbf to get an old bootstrap.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
I wan to downgrade as well, preferrably w/o sbf. But I flashed so often by now, searching for the fastest way w/o: 1-sbf, 2-reroot, 3-custom recovery and 4-flashing cm7 would take more time, than the flashing process itself.
So that's what I'm gonna do. Hope it gets snappier then. CM11 with just about 9-10 apps (facebook, messenger, whatsapp, gmail, gcal, aero control, battery stats, es file explorer) is already torture for my defy.

I have an idea, and its a possibility for you. I have a Atrix 4G which also is on CM11, and like you guys on the Defy, has a bigpart mod. For us to downgrade, its flash an old recovery, boot to recovery, factory reset, wipe all partitions (system, data, cache, boot (that should be the ones you have too)), flash desired ROM/restore backup. Not sure if that will work for you, but its worth a shot. If it doesn't work, i'd try sbf'ing (someone posted an sbf lately if i remember correctly
Sent from my ATRIX HD using XDA Free mobile app
Unfortunately I don't know what sbf to take - it might be irrelevant, since i accidentally flashed to bl7 long ago and since I wanted to reroot again, twrp and cm7 it might not matter which one to flash. I am trying to speed things up a bit, and struggle with twrp atm, because safewipe.zip might no longer be safe (unable to enter twrp) or the version was not meant for my configuration.
Now i trimmed all part's and try amplifying services, but it's been a while since i tuned my defy.
OT: I switched to Moto G and E2 (but lost both ones - or they've been stolen) and now I want to reactivate my old pal before switching to anything new again. It's getting expensive...
So don't wait, maybe I'll get CM11 to work good enough again, but if not, I'll try to provide a checklist.
