[Q] Official unlock with firmware version 2.42.405.4 - G2 and Desire Z General

Hello,
I am trying to unlock (s-off?) my desire z with official procedure at htcdev.com site.
Unfortunately I had an ota upgrade to 2.4.405.4 (perhaps bug fixing...)
Obviously OFFICIAL htc software does not recognize 2.4.405.4 version.....
What can I do now?
Thanks,
Mario

don't use official unlock, bad choice you will be so unhappy. look for the xda wiki guide how to root the proper way, or google cyanogen vision root wiki
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium

if you have already unlocked the bootloader using the steps on htcdev.com you need to lock again the bootloader otherwise the xda guide will not work

Ok, but all guides say to backup with titanium backup before rooting. But titanium needs rooted phone to do backups...
How can I backup my phone????
Thanks,
Mario

well there is no need to back anything up but if you really want to, fully read the guide and it will show you how to temp root you phone and then use titanium to back things up. personally I feel this is unnecessary but do as you'd like

How would I go about getting gingerbread on my new mt4g?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
download cm7 (cyanogen mod 7) or download nexus s...either one will work from the development section. to use gingerbread, you will need clockwork recovery 3. (2 is flashed from rom manager) directions to flash clockwork recovery can be found through a search.
here are the links

You don't NEED a computer to do this, but it GREATLY helps things along.
and YES you must be perma-rooted with s=off.
Ok. Thanks. How long would all this usually take. How do I go about rooting my phone.

yes. to root your phone i suggest following the true permroot guide.
for the need of a computer..it is not required, but is recommended. it would easier to root your phone and flash your recovery with.

Dude, he was asking for HELP, not to be made fun of...
no, back to the question at hand. to root the mytouch 4g, you would need to follow one of the guides to rooting found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866175
that link also has links to all the other things you will need, but Ill provide them here as well for time's sake.
once you do that and have s-off, you will need to flash an alternate recovery to flash a rom. Normally, you would need to install rom manager to do this, then flash clockwork recovery through there, but to install gingerbread, it requires a special version of the recovery which is not officially supported by rom manager yet, so you will need to either install through fastboot (follow the steps provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852905 )
or else follow the instructions provided by TruBlue found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10670110#post10670110
once you have the right recovery installed, youll need to wipe data and caches, and then flash the gingerbread rom of your choice.
As for what apps you will need for all this: ROM Manager, as I mentioned (the premium version if you'd like to take advantage of CM built in nightly build update notifications). Titanium Backup (for backing up all your apps so you dont have to manually redownload them all, and have your app data intact on the new rom), and Root explorer (optional) for a root-enabled file manager.
Any further questions, feel free to send me a PM. Thanks to Tiger013 for compiling the list of everything, grankin for his Root how-to's, and TrueBlueDrew for his how to on install CWM 3x.

Rooting x10

Hello guys my friend she wants me to root her phone and get clockwork on it and custom roms. What's the easiest way to root? Can someone guide me? Thanks in advance.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
Download the flashtool by androxyde and follow the steps to rooting it and possibly look into unlocking the bootloader also. It would make for a quicker loading the phone on turning on. For a solid Rom I would go with Wolfbreaks 6.0 because it's very good and stable.

Rule no.1 never mod a friends phone! You might end up having to buy her a new one. And since you seem uncertain of where to even start =/ i would'nt recomend it.

If your trying to root your phone you have to use HTCdev.com to unlock your bootloader then follow captain throwbacks guide to get s-off after unlocking the bootloader http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...-18-HBOOT-with-HTCDev-com-No-More-Watermark!-)

Well from what has been said, there's a work around to the HTC unlock which will allow downgrading of the bootloader. Once this happens you are good to go. I honestly don't think HTC is gunna report every phone that has been unlocked, through thier unlocker, to Sprint.

First you need to get temporary root access, follow this link
http://theunlockr.com/2010/10/20/how-to-root-the-t-mobile-g2-htc-vision-visionary-method/
Then follow this link and the instructions on how to get permanent root access.
http://theunlockr.com/2010/11/30/how-to-gain-permanent-root-and-s-off-on-the-t-mobile-g2-htc-vision/
This is how I rooted my G2 when I had it. After, you can follow the tutorials on how to load custom ROMs.
Always remember to do a nandroid backup before flashing anything on your phone.
Thanks to theunlockr.com.
Good luck!

if he has the latest ota, he needs to follow the whole downgrade, root, s-off process in the g2 dev section.
use the built in search on xda to find it.
True, my G2 had Android 2.2 when I rooted; since then it got the gingerbread update.

On an unrelated note, though, I totally used theunlockr to root my phone ;D although gfree was highly recomended shortly afterwards, I never ran into any problems, which I thought was cool xD VIRTUAL HIGH FIVE BRO!
I rooted my G2 by following the cyanogenMod wiki. It's really easy to follow and it worked like a charm. Even my myTouch 4g used the exact same procedure. If you are on gingerbread firmware you will need to downgrade. Guide for that is here and then root the phone with this guide here. From then on you can flash any rom you'd prefer.
I have op 2.3 this hard I don't under stan how to down grade I have down load adb in windows 7 when I put the files on sd and I pull cmd out and put the codes in I get nothing so how do I run adb is the any other way to down grade and get root easy
