Canadian gs3 - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

I'm getting a bell gs 3 and I am wondering if anyone knows of a good forum for Canadian variants. Do people mostly stick to these boards. AMD has anyone with a Canadian I747 tried rooting yet with the att root.

What carrier. Are you planning to root

Just got mine today too. No plans to root yet. Coming from a desire hd, this phone is awesome. I'm sure I'll get bored, and root it in a few weeks.

Got the bell version, model number is SGH-I747M, am pretty sure its the same as the AT&T version, and usually all the canadian gsm hardware is compatible with AT&T, inlcuidng 3g and hspa+/LTE frequencies

Picked up mine from Bell today, planning to root it for ad block and titanium back up etc

Are the 32gb Telus, Bell and Rogers ones released already or only 16gb?

I bought the 16 gb I747 s III and rooted it using a step by step tutorial from zedomax
Just go to galaxys3root .com and you there will be instructions for sprint/tmobile/at&t which are the same phones that the canadian carriers received.
Mine was from telus though.
Worked fine, should be no problems

Using this method, do you keep stock recovery. I want to root so I can use adb to pull stock kernel and stock recovery and i will make them into cwm zips.

For telus galaxy s 3, not sure if bell and rogers have same software

thanks for the link. i'm gonna try rooting now to be able to use root explorer, setCPU (until kernel is modified), and titanium backup and restore the data of all my games & settings. i just got my phone yesterday without a preorder. got a 32gb pebble blue. can't wait for jellybean now... mainly for the fluidity and the offline maps.

never mind.. just found out offline google maps is already available for the s3. can only download 100MB of maps though.. still covers all of calgary and some.

Honestly im not sure. Im pretty sure that it changes the kernel though.

AT&T Galaxy s3

We can use roms from the At&t galaxy s3, and vice versa, just thought I let everyone know. I'll be trying out sprint roms shortly, and verizon soon.
What works: Everything so far, even the rotation is fine (if you had a tmobile galaxy s2, you know what I mean)
What doesn't: Nothing that I'm aware of.
Issues: You have to go to titanium backup and disable at&t software update
Have fun!
Did u try and flash the att rom on the tmobile version?
What?

Yeah the rotation was always an issue with the skyrocket kernels. Glad we don't have that problem this time

As of right now, no. The rom I flashed didn't change the radios.

Isn't the radio different from the absence of LTE?
This is great news just like the Galaxy S II days.
Can anyone confirm if one can flash a Tmobile radio onto the At&T version.
Reason: AT&T Galaxy S3 is $100 cheaper off contract.

[Q] "Unlocking" AT&T S4 questions

Now I have had previous Samsung Galaxy phones that I have rooted and I'm very familiar with the whole process.
However, I have never used a phone that was bought for one carrier and used on another.
I'm planning to purchase an AT&T Galaxy S4 and using it on the T-Mobile network (wish me luck).
What would be the best way to unlock the AT&T phone to use a T-Mobile SIM?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285431This is what I have found, but I heard something about a USB unlock being more successful.
Once the phone is "Unlocked", and I root the device, should I be using the AT&T ROMs section, or T-Mobile? I'm going to guess AT&T because they are somewhat hardware dependent?
Lastly, will this AT&T version limit my signal in anyway (not accounting for the already possibility of bad signal)?
Meaning the AT&T version only picks up the lesser of the T-Mobile bands or signals.
If I sound like an idiot, I apologize. I've done some research and cant seem to find the right keywords to search.
Thanks in advance for any information.

I am using i337 with tmobiles sim card. I get 4g at over 10mbs and even over 20mbs on some good dsys. I usually use att roms although I've found that i9505 and tmobile work too. Just have to stick with loki'ed kernels. Hope this helps.
It does, thank you.
So look for a ROM with Loki kernels?
And which unlock method did you use to get the T-Mobile SIM to work?
The one above or a different one

2 Q's before ordering

What's up guys? I'm thinking of buying this phone this coming week, but need answers on two questions..
1. Does the rooting method described in these forums work on the international model? Really would like to hide the soft keys and remove some bloat.
2. Would like to buy a case for this bad boy, and am I correct in assuming that all cases work except the ones made for the vzw version?
Huge thanks to anyone able to answer the questions, don't feel like using a Samsung device for the fourth year running..

It can be unlocked to work on Tmobile in some markets depending on what frequencies are available where you live. I am currently using my SPH-L720 on tmobile in PHX AZ . Some users have reported Net10 working and others ATT but I have never investigated this. If you want to see how it works I have compiled a guide that outlines the steps I took to make it work on Tmobile. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2530610 Also look in the International SIM unlock thread in Development and the GSM data thread in general for further tips.
Also I'm sure it can be flashed to boost you just need the PRL file to flash. Check out this thread.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L720T LTE Triband Stock Firmware Root

As some of you may know, Sprint released a revision of the Galaxy S4 with the new ID of SPH-L720T (T referring to LTE Tri-band). Looking at the firmware versions, they are different than the non-tri-band SPH-L720.
I'm looking for rooted SPH-L720T stock firmware or a guide to rooting this tri-band version, but haven't had any luck.
I know the issues with CF-auto-root and the KNOX Counter with 4.2.2 vs. 4.3 thanks to everyone here. Now, I believe that the original shipped Andriod version is 4.2.2, but OTA will update to 4.3. Below I've listed the versions for both versions of the S4.
I haven't been able to find SPH-L720T 4.2.2 original firmware tar either (if it even exists). I'd be happy running rooted 4.2.2 or 4.3, but don't want to deal with the KNOX counter/no-triangle if I don't have to.
Any thoughts, ideas, or what it would take for me to dig further? Also, the SPTA vs. SPTE version prefixes don't seem to point to a tri-band or non-tri-band version.
I suspect since Sprint will be selling these going forward as their flagship with Spark, this will eventually need to be figured out. Any help would be appreciated...and I'm happy to research whatever I can.
Samsung L720T Firmwares:
Android 4.3:
- L720TVPUAMK5 / SPTAMK5 SPR USA Sprint - TF Mirror
Samsung L720 Firmwares:
Android 4.2.2:

- L720VPUAMF9 / SPTAMF9 SPR Sprint - TF Mirror - RG Mirror
Android 4.3:
- L720VPUEMJA / SPTEMJA SPR Sprint - TF Mirror
- L720VPUEMK2 / SPTEMK2 SPR Sprint - TF Mirror - RG Mirror
P.S. I have a rooted S2 stock 4.1.2, so I'm familiar with Rwilco12, one-click-ODIN and Mobile ODIN for kernels and modems.
I got my phone on the 20th of December how do I know of it supports Tri band lte or spark. The sprint rep said it will but I take that with a grain of salt. I do know I'm getting 30+ Meg dl in Bloomfield MI

I live in NJ and NYC is an official Spark city, but I can't get Spark on my Nexus 5 even thought I have enabled all the bands on my N5.

I have one on the way to me that I ordered from Sprint. I don't know if its true, but it seems like they're trying to sell all the old models in the retail stores and none of them have it in stock.
Well the tech and sales team swears the 720ud has spark capabilities however I know it can't because it doesn't connect to the 2500 my spectrum but on the box it shows for bands of lte starting at 800

Yeah me too. As this thread was being created, I was at the Sprint store in upstate NY, blissfully unaware of any of this. As it happens, I got the "T" version, although I'm still not sure if that's a good or a bad thing. I expected to come home, google XDA SPH-L720T ROOT, and have this thing rooted and flashed to the newest CM11 nightly in 20 minutes. Alas, all I have found so far is frustration and sadness.
Yea sorry about that! I did a Web search and seems nothing has popped up about rooting yet not sure any of the developers have one yet. If they do they either haven't figured out how to root it or haven't shared with us

Seems unlikely. These guys usually share selflessly, and get stuff out there really fast. That was the basis for my confidence when I came home and flopped down in front of my computer to do this. Still looking. But also doing 20 other things. If I find something definitive, I'll post it here.
I suspect it won't be much different than rooting the MJA or MK2 firmware. From the stock ROM, on L720T, it looks mostly to be a modem and kernel update.
Plus, Sprint will be selling these going forward. Honestly, I'd be happy if I could get stock rooted simply to be able to do nandroid and titanium backups.

Hello, I have noticed the postings about the new Sprint "T" Version of the S4.
On my box it states "SPHL720BKK"
Is this a new model or old one? I have had the phone about two months now.
I am looking to improve my data speed and connectivity to the towers. My phone goes from LTE to 3G very often.
I am on SAC's Custom Rom 4.3
The Build is L720VPUEMK2
Android Ver. 4.3
Is there something I can do to improve this?
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thank You in Advance

Look under settings/ about device, where it gives the model. If it has SPH-L720T, it's the new one. If no "T" at the end. Old one. No idea how to fix it except to cry to Sprint and see if you can get a new one out of them. Good luck.
Dang, no "T".
This is getting frustrating.
