Anybody tried the Swiftkey 3 tablet version on the Galaxy Note? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hi, I need some advice from experienced users. Could anybody please let me know the advantages of using the tablet, rather than the phone, version of Swiftkey 3 on the Galaxy Note? Which version do you recommend to use on the Galaxy Note? I purchased the phone version but immediately after installation, a message showed up saying that "Wrong SwiftKey! SwiftKey 3 (phone) is not optimized for tablets. Please consider purchasing SwiftKey 3 Tablet." I asked for the automatic refund immediately.
I read that the tablet version has a split keyboard. Given that the Galaxy Note's screen is smaller than most tablets, I wonder how easy it is to type on it. Do the keys appear to be smaller if I use the tablet version rather than the phone version? Is the split keyboard's height adjustable? Thanks.

It kinda depends on your prefered dpi.
Id suggest 160 to 200 use tablet version, anything higher use phone version.
Play around with settings, keyboard height etc.
Enough free alternatives though

If you get tablet version, you can configure it to look like the phone version. So I'd go for the tab one.
Try the free version first

I found the option of "Portrait key height" and "Landscape key height" under Advanced. Changing the key height also changes the overall size of each key. Is there any other way to change the height of the keyboard especially in landscape mode? I tried both the phone and the tablet versions. I found the split keyboard with Normal landscape key height the most comfortable to type on. (I made lots of mistakes using the small option.) However, I can only see three lines of the text I am composing. In my opinion, the height of the space bar and the suggested words could be smaller. I recall seeing a message that the size of the keyboard could be changed by swiping... It disappeared so quickly that I could not see the rest of the sentence.
By the way, the app adds a space behind each suggested word. For example, I wanted to type "becomes". "become" appeared on the suggested list. When I chose it, "become"+space was typed automatically. I had to hit the back key to add the "s". Similar, I have to hit the back key to add a full stop when the suggested word is the last word in a sentence.

I have 2 doubts about Swiftkey, it's not learning "xD" every time I tell it to learn it, by tapping on it at the top bar, the next time I type "xd" it leaves it as that! My second doubt about swiftkey is that if you type and then switch to the numbers page, and hit space, it doesn't return back to the alphabet page; Right? ARG! Some minor annoyances ...
Any suggestions?

Well, Swiftkey for me offers me both "become" and "becomes"!
FYI, you don't need to go back to end a sentence. If you hit full stop, it will remove any space it had entered automatically.

Tried it last night. Tablet version works just fine, but I can't really compare because I didn't bother to try the phone version. Went back to Swype because I've long been an avid user of swipe keyboards and I can't take that out anymore. )

I like the phone version better as it has an option for arrow buttons (left, right, up, down)
Im not sure if version 3 has it, but i know in x, tablet didnt

I'm sorry, you're correct. They've disabled it for any tablet under 10inch which seems retarded. It was enabled on the final beta.

No problem. Hope they will put it back. They should also include a key to allow switching between keyboard mode and handwriting mode.

Swype - I used to love you

Hi! Is it just me or has swype become almost unuseable since a few ROMs back when it went from popping a box up to horizontal suggestions above the keyboard.
I'm not talking about the aesthetics, it seems as though the dictionary selection, accuracy and changing of half typed and corrected words is just terrible.
Prior to the update I used to breeze through, now I'm lucky to swype in a few words without an epic correction struggle against its will to correct and change.
Swype, once a selling point and a joy to use now just plain sucks for me, and the thought of using it turns me off productive tasks.
Just me? Bad settings? I look forward to peoples input. I can't exactly remember when the change occurred, it was when it went horizontal instead of pop up.

no problem here, actually I feel Swype 3 to be better than 2, fast, accurate and reliable.
Feel the same, maybe I swipe too fast, had to correct three times inn the first eight words

I don't intend to hijack, but I couldn't have an android phone without Swiftkey X on it... only complaint is that I have to use the gmail app for my email instead of the Samsung email one because it is very buggy on the Samsung one....
Same here. Old swype was more accurate.
I did two things:
1) Remove swype that comes with the rom, install the beta from swype.com (its newer)
2) Disable autocorrect
I absolutely love the new one. Much better than before and just as accurate.
The new Swype rocks! Especially with the horizontal word choice window. I can't even consider going back to 2.7. No problems with accuracy whatsoever with the new version on my phone.
It's not just me! Latest Cognition 1.50 just released and Swype has been reverted to 2.x, Designgears said the following:
"I think the new versions suck too, it is no even usable anymore, I can type my message 3x faster with the stock samsung keyboard."

Quit the bull - if you didn't mean to hijack, why are you doing it? Is this an accidental hijack? Jerk.
On topic - never been a huge Swype fan, but been playing with it a bit this weekend - and I concur with those that say the new version is hopeless.
Still a noob with it, but my accuracy was much, much better on the old version.
Not sure I'll stay with Swype anyway - old dog, new tricks....
Make sure you check your Swype accuracy settings. I put mine closer towards the error tolerance end now. Still works fine.

I don't like it that much, have to swipe twice/thrice for a simple word like 'or'. I used T9 Trace on my S8500 before and it never had any problem, even if I swiped on some wrong letters it ultimately gave me the right word.
I am on 2.72 version, at default setting.
Regards.
Yep same here. Spent more time struggling with auto-correction than actually swyping.
I use TouchPal's keyboard now. Surprisingly accurate even when you mash the wrong buttons, high degree of customisability (you can even use the classic numpad keyboard), and they will also be implementing the swyping functionality in the next major release (hopefully more usable than the current version of Swype).
I've found, disabling auto correction helps a million.

I absolutely agree with every word you said. Please if someone can tell me a way of downgrading to an older version, i will be ever grateful. Its terrible now!!
from my perspective.. swype 3 is better than swype 2 .. well the horizontal word suggestions eats up a line, but in exchange it's easier to scroll down (or right ) for the words.. it's true that it's not perfect when selecting words.. but overall.. it's still the best keyboard...

Swype is too large on N7

Anyone know of a version, or a solution for getting the swype keyboard to shrink down to a manageable size? once in a while, mine will come up in a nice small size, but most of the time it is full width (in portrait), making it laborious to swipe across the keyboard quickly. I no longer have it installed, but IIRC I had version 3x. my wife has a beta version and hers is always wide, but she LIKES it that way.

I love Swype but I won't be getting my N7 until next week, a month after I preordered.
Swype automatically scales to the screen it is being used on. If you know your way around an apk it might be possible to hack it to stick to a smaller screen size. But that could get complicated...

A post on Swype forums titled "Does this beta work on Nexus 7?" suggests that changing dpi to 160 should give the tablet version. Those screenshots are with the new 1.x Swype though, not sure about 3.x. I'd give the link, but I'm a new poster.
I'm running 1.x on N7 and it's taking up about 1/4 screen height in portrait (which seems perfect for me) and 1/2 in landscape (which I don't use).

I'm not sure why you mentioned that part? You didn't order it a month ago, you preordered it. When I preordered Assassins Creed 6 months before it released I wasn't pissed 30 days later that I hadn't received it yet.

Really need some help setting this thing up

Help everyone. After a brief affair with the iPhone 5 this dinner, I have returned to Android via the Samsung Galaxy S 4.
Only problem is the bezels. They are too thin!! I literally can't type on this thing. Its not the size of the screen, I used to run a note, it's the bezels. Mainly the bottom one.
At the moment I run the GPE ROM. This is all fine and dandy, I'm loving the Nexus 4 like experience. But I miss the on screen buttons. They brought the bottom bezel size up significantly, making the typing experience amazing. I need that on this phone. But I also don't want the capacitive buttons. Luckily they dissapear when not lit up. And I found a flashable script to disable their functionality. I just need to find a ROM as stable as the GPE ROM and with on screen buttons and IR support like the GPE ROM.
Does anyone have any ideas? Other than the typing issue I like the phone. It's not nearly as comfortable as the 4.7" screen of the Nexus but its usable and really my only choice to get back to my Android home.
Thanks!

My girlfriend had the exact same problem and he's right - there are some great ROMs on there that will have exactly what you're looking for. There are some that coincide with the haptic buttons and some that are stand alone and do not use them at all.
Some can be found at:

One last question, is vibration alerts like really weird on this phone? Not just the ROM, I mean the phone in general. The vibrator is extremely loud, doesn't buzz very well, and with notifications it'll either go off in three very strange bursts or two very short bursts.

A couple of things:
1. Keep in mind, using Dynamic Notifications on an Android 4.2 rom will result in battery drain while the notification is active. An Android 4.3 rom would be better for that, since it has the new "NotificationListenerService" feature.
2. For disabling the capacitive buttons, it might be worthwhile to move to a rom that has full hardware key rebinding. I'm a big fan of SlimBean. There is a settings screen that lets you choose exactly what each of the buttons does, and you can just set it all of them to "none", and then disable button backlighting in Display settings.
SlimBean has it's own look and feel, because the DPI is very low and the Slim logo is inserted a few places. All of this can be changed, though, if you prefer a more stock experience.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions; I'll be happy to help.

[Q] Better stylus keyboard?

Hi, could someone please recommend me a better keyboard to use with my note 4's stylus (handwriting) cause the stock keyboard has a pretty bad handwriting recognition (wrote the letter "s" 10 times in a row and got these letters: "r, p, q, s" and funny enough the letter I got the least of was "s")?
Swype, just Swype the words with the stylus. It's quicker than writing out your letters. If that's not the case, you need more practice cause Swype is easily the fastest keyboard.

Thank you, will do that, hope it has better handwriting recognition than Samsung's keyboard, if not I'll probably root my phone after I receive my S-View cover and SD-card (want to first be sure the phone's hardware works 100%) and try the LG keyboard as suggested.
l normally use Swype but if you hover over a text entry a little blue Circle appears with a T in it which brings up a different text input. I find this much easier to use. I just wish that a backward line was delete like it was my on Palm graffiti!
