Samsung Did Not Learn! - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

How did Samsung not hear our cries last time with Touchwiz, and with every version? What if the last thing I needed to do in some emergency was take a picture, but the software wouldn't let me because I had only 5% battery left? Why not make that a toggle? I HAD an emergency and needed to take a picture of a car accident - "NOPE YOUR PHONE ONLY HAS 45 MINUTES OF BATTERY LEFT!! YOU CAN'T TAKE PICTURES YOU SILLY BOY!!"
Stupidest goddamn thing I've ever seen. JUST FOR THAT I will throw CM9 on here to spite Touchwiz.
/rant
P.S. yes I still love this phone

LOL i agree that's it's silly but if it really bothers you, you should get a car charger. Problem solved lol not trynna be an a$$ #justsayin

I live in Manhattan and don't own a car. Twas in a cab.

If it bothers you silly boy...get an actual camera..hehehehe

Damn, ok i give you a break cuz you are an NY kat but you could also try this:
http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen-Exte...ion-Thunderbolt/dp/B005VBNYDS/ref=pd_cp_cps_3

Sounds like a very reasonable criticism, with a lot of dumbass replies. I wouldn't call it a Touchwiz issue though, since that usually refers to the interface. It's just Samsung being stupid and implementing this restriction, is all. I've always wondered about that camera problem. Haven't had a situation come up where I needed it on low battery, but it is very conceivable that I would eventually, and many others would also. Now that smartphones have cameras, good cameras, you need to protect yourself and capture evidence.

yeah its kinda stupid to limit an app when you have x amount of battery, users should have a choice to use the app or not and not be limited due to the manufacture.

What's even dumber... is with my gs2.. I tried to take a picture with the battery below 5% and it wouldn't let me... so I plugged it in and then tried to take a picture.IT STILL WOULDNT LET ME ! I had to wait for it to charge the battery above 5%... you would think runniny off a power cord it would be able to take a picture.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2

What's there for Samsung to learn? - you continue to buy. If anyone needs to learn, it's you. :-D

Or can't use camera while in a voice call is stupid as Hell too. My og evo could snap pix or record video while in a call. S1, s2, s3 cannot.

If I'm not wrong, I believe if you install another camera app from the Google store you will be able to.

why's everybody jumping on this guys ****?
The restriction is really really dumb. There is absolutely no reason for it.
... but really, who walks around with 5% battery anyway?

Obviously this your first time on xda with a Samsung galaxy device. The devs will make a mod for this also your bad for only 5%

Concept Phone

Check out this android concept phone:
http://androinica.com/2011/01/20/awesome-android-concept-phone-with-three-displays-video/
Saw this on another site I think that is the single coolest thing I have ever seen. Now what would be even cooler would be that Sprint is unveiling this with David Blane on the 7th. Oooohhhhhh I can see it now in my dreams.

Phones are starting to remind me of Gillette razors now. Instead of "let's see how many blades we can stick on there" it's screens.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I thought that the reason the Nexus S didn't have Gorilla Glass was because it was curved. The concept was really amazing. I liked the obvious 3 screens, but being able to change the color of the lights at the edge, being able to swipe between screens, and being able to swipe between phones was pretty impressive.
I was also impressed with the video. It had a good message, plus, it looked like a real phone, I wouldn't be surprised if someone took this and thought it was an actual device.
Agreed, I really like it. Not too sure about the shape but it seems to work in a very functional and practical way.

[Review] Samsung Conquer 4G

Picked this phone up for the wife last night, finally converted her from her blackberry curve....yuck. Pretty good phone, screen obvoiusly not my epic but perfect for her. Very snappy, first thing i noticed was when you pull the notification menu down, there are no toggles there which i though sucks since im so used to it. havent tested out the camera yet, it is super thin, damn near just the size of our screens, so if you could take off the keyboard.
The back of the phone looks exactly like the leaked pictures of the "Epic Touch 4G" and it is a really nice addition, good grip, looks good, and wont scratch.
She is in love already, ill post up here after a couple days on the battery.
i thought it looked like a good little phone. as for the buttons on the top of the dock most of them are replicated with the power widget
I would like to add, Notification Toggle in the Market is a great app to add the switches in the pull down.
I wanted to check this phone out for my daighter, I bought her an LG Optimus S and she wants to upgrade. Thanks for the insight

SRobby -- Thanks for your review/comments about the Conquer 4G. I've been thinking about upgrading to this one as well, and right now Sprint is offering it for free online with a new 2-yr contract. Since I'm on a budget and can't really afford a snazzy top of the line upgrade, FREE is pretty attractive right now.
Any updates on the Conquer's performance after your wife has been using it for a few months? Has she been noticing any issues?

Who buys the Note?!

If you are the owner of a Galaxy Note, please select your height.
I have a theory that there is an interesting association between the height of a person and the size of screen they go for.
Lets see what results we get! This should be interesting at minimum...
I am 1 meter 47, midevil age sized fellow. I look like I walk around with cinema in hand
and I am not happy to see you, its just a note in my pocket mwahahahau

Nope, Its handy. A true tablet is to big for me. This is perfect, I get a multifunctional device, yet smaller then device I otherwise would have got. Big plus. For phone its nice size to, I feel shielded by it, thus less wind noise interference. Also with a smaller phone people would just talk to me while I am ringing, now they actually can see I am on the phone. lol. Weird, but hey a good welcome side effect.
Its funny, I am small but dont give an elephants ass regarding peoples tendency to conform to image expectation. Probably cause I are fugly. Expectation phone small, big phone oh that looks weird. Nah, this is more plausible: Just takes getting used to, much like supermodels, skinny was the **** untill Kim Kardassian and Beyonce came round with huge curves. That and the song, I like big butts by sir Mixalot. lol.
Only thing I mind is battery life, I want a regular phone battery life and regular tablet battery life, somehow adding the gsm network halves it. I guess it must be form factor, tablet wholes back is battery, whilst phone is just small battery. So even thought notes battery is bigger then other phones, its battery still to small for tablet battery life span, which I was expecting

This is one of the funniest things Ive heard in quite some time. You can use it as an umbrella too!
I am 5'10" but i have always loved bigger phones from the nokia forgot the name U shaped phone to the nokia e61i to htc hd2 to the desire hd to this. I did however step down to the htc Desire for like two weeks and couldnt bear the pain of the matchbox screen.
Some say i have big hands so i dont know about the height being the only anatomy factor but interestingly
I am looking forward to the note2 due out later in the year but i think thats the limit as even i with said big hands struggle with single handed operation at times
Best phone ever

5'5, but that is average for a US female. But I have really small hands. I can't use the phone one handed at all, not even in portrait. But it is small sacrifice to make to have a large screen phone. My previous phone was the Dell Streak, so I prefer larger screen phones. On day I hope to have a 7" or more size screen for my phone.

Pros:
Itś very thin and the weight is really light. iś very responsive and the android 4.0 works right. The camera is better than I expected and it does not overhead too much (and just from the right side). And of course its price , it is a real good price!!! The shippment was good, it was free and it took about 12 days to come to USA, so it was really good!!! (And it has not problem going through customs).
Cons:
Sometimes gets a little slow or freeze but not much, in theses cases you just have to wait or to close some apps and it will become normal again. You have to think that it is not a top tablet, as you can see by the screen or the graphics but anyway I have to say that both are really good for this price.
Also I have problems with the charger, it didnt work but it doesnt matter, beacuse it can be charge with a mini usb charger, so it is perfect!!!!

I have one, from the same geekbuying link posted in the first post. Definitely not screaming fast (wish I could downgrade to GB), but it works. I have not had good luck with getting the Google Market to run, so I have sideloaded everything.
The good news, it is already rooted. You won't find an su type app in the app drawer, but you can run apps that require root. The thing never bothers to ask you if you will grant root to the app. It just assumes you do
I'd like to find an updated ROM, but for now, as a 1-2 app device, it does the job.

Htc one first impressions/real world review thread

Ok so I FINALLY got my ONE today!! Happy to be one of the minority as not many people have this phone yet
After months of videos, articles, threads on xda and various articles the time is here.
These are my first impressions as I've had the phone for a good 12hours now. First time you take it out of the box is just WOW this thing is just quality...100% premium feeling and truly well crafted well done HTC. Its really light and it's quite tall (compared to my old desire hd).
When you turn it on you will be blown away/scared by how loud these speakers are, boomsound is not a joke people this is the real deal! Then listen to some music on this, it sounds awesome. There is even some bass in it which pleased me the most! Really, really loud I gurantee no need for dock or portable speakers.
The screen is mindblowing, especially when your coming from a device with 800x400 resolution like me. The difference is just incredible. Colours are vibrant and natural at the same time unlike the over saturated, way to contrast high colours on the AMOLED. Viewing angles are perfect and it's really bright, I had to turn it down because it stared burning my eyes :/ lol! Blacks are good and whites are good and not blue or yellow.
Sense 5 is just sexy as f***k <3 touchwiz has no comparison against this tbh! Everything looks sleek and very clean. No bloat and actually is better than stock...stock is just too plain imho. I don't like some things like the new way to move apps to your homescreen from the app drawer. The three dot menu but hopefully HTC fix that in an update, if not then I'm going to root this so that's cool. Blinkfeed is ok, I can see that it won't be liked by everyone. I'm already slightly bored of it! When HTC let us add sources I can see this being a success, I know I'd use it more if you liked the hundred plus widget selection of the past HTC sense versions then you may not like that a lot of the widgets are gone! I think this is a good thing I can see that HTC are trying to make you use blinkfeed as your homescreen and the app drawer as the traditional type home screen by alloowing you to make folders.
Regarding music, beats audio is classed as a gimmick and the headphones as overpriced. I agree on the second claim and used to think the same for beats audio before. But it seems as if they have actually made it good and optimised it. It makes the speakers and music played through headphones MUCH MUCH better.
The notification light has pleased me also. It bright and is seen very easily.
The phone has been lag free. A major step up from my single core desire hd super fast, can have like 20 apps open with no lag at all. Multitasking is soo good.
I've already got used to the button layout. Only messed up like twice hopefully the HTC logo thing becomes a real thing.
The phone came with like 45% battery, (5.00pm) after HEAVY HEAVY usage as I'm sure everyone does when they get a new toy it does on me at 1.30am. So 8hours of constant hammerage seems reallllyyy good so far!! Havent gone through a proper cycle of charged it fully yet so can't say anything else on the battery.
However, the phone does tend to get a bit warm every know and then. Not like ohh it's burning but just slightly warm which is expected with most of these quad core beasts.
I took a couple of random pics with the camera, looking good so far but that's on the phones screen and just random ish. Haven't tested front facing cam or video recording yet.
Last point for now (I know I'm forgetting a lot of things)... The phone is quite slippery seeing as I am the only numpty who would end up dropping his phone from ABOVE WAIST HEIGHT within a couple of hours of use. To my surprise not even a scratch, nothing to be seen on the phone. Almost had a mini heart attack but it proved that it's well built
Ohh and the power button is kinda flush so hard to find at times but I'm already getting used to it. The screen also seems to be very good at hiding fingerprints
That's all for now, time to fully charge this badboy and get some sleep myself.

No lool the multitasking can only show 9 apps...but im pretty sure I had A LOTT of apps opened at once with no lags. Yup, if only i had a camera set up! 1st drop test of htc one (uninentional) it almost gave me a heart attack man aha :/ only had it for 2 hours at that point

Do a test on the video camera at 1080p and review it on a pc.. Every review that has actually done a video test has looked like the FPS still drops in the low 20's which has been pretty typical of every HTC phone I've seen, especially in low light.

I too am coming from DHD. I just hope I'm as impressed as you. Congrats on your One
Do you like camera quality?
Good review can't stop playing even though had since Friday and being in the official HTC case with it stops it slipping for me.

The phone came with like 45% battery, (5.00pm) after HEAVY HEAVY usage as I'm sure everyone does when they get a new toy it does on me at 1.30am. So 8hours of constant hammerage

Stopped reading after this. It was an overly enthusiastic story to begin with but this was the limit. Eight hours of "constant hammerage" with a 45% battery charge to begin with. Alrighty. And everybody just swallows this like it's the truth? Best phone ever. Best battery ever. Simply amazing. Will get the phone myself as well but these stories (20 apps open, really, how DO you know?!) are so useless, with all due respect

I'm feeling sorry for your Xperia Z.
Your story has just made me more excited. !!
As soon as it comes to Dubai I'm gonna buy. An now I'm very sure its worth the wait.
Switching from galaxy ace to this , would be MIND=BLOWN!!

Shouldn´t you let it charge full before you start using it?

My jaw dropped when I saw the phone in retailers. I think my mouth broke in awe when I touched it for the first 10 seconds.

The Z and One are beautiful phones. Two of the best built and looking phones ever created in my opinion.
