The article also states that it's a separate chip. If I'm not mistaken the reason we don't have a separate chip is because it would draw more power. That's why they tend to stick to whatever Modem the SOC supports. If the SOC doesn't support the modem, there is more power going to driving a modem AND SOC. We won't see it here anytime soon since Carriers have been adverse to have the separate chips in the devices.

Most likely won't work in the US. LTE in different countries/carriers run on different frequencies. The problem is that, is no longer would a Quad-Band phone give you true worldwide coverage on LTE. Since each country/carrier uses a slightly different frequency, the amount of frequencies that an LTE chip would have to cover is more than they currently are able to support (plus the logistics would likely be a total nightmare.) This is currently proven by Apple's use of an LTE chip in the iPad. The chip won't give LTE outside of the US. So any LTE device you import right now (or likely within the next couple years) will NOT work on US LTE networks.

battery life doesnt matter as much in Korea .. any restuarant or bar will charge you phone for you lol. i miss being able to hand my phone to any ajumma and grab a charge while i eat.

That's a pretty cool idea for this modern high-tech society and if they don't do that, then at least provide a USB port for charging.

The statement above is not correct. It should read "The chip won't work on LTE outside of North America." Remember, my American friends, you are NOT the centre of the universe. LTE speeds in Canada are the same as in the U.S. Case in point, Rogers in Canada has the identical network as AT&T in the U.S.
The rest of what you said is quite accurate.

The Skyrocket was just to introduce LTE, so there won't be a #2. Also, I'm guessing US will get quad-core LTE in the Galaxy S4. Then again, what do I know?

Canada still got it, but they canceled the US version. I don't even know why Samsung made the thing, considering how quickly the GS3 came out.

Btw, it comes with an IR port just like the 7.0+

Sounds fishy now that Samsung was claiming LTE was not compatible with the Exynos 4210.. Now i'm thinking Samsung has been lying this entire time and opting for the cheap Qualcomm S3 chips that are about half the power of their Exynos just to make easy cash.
Sketchy sketchy Samsung, shame shame.

I'd love a source link, or reliable citation of any kind, for that claim. I've read a lot of speculation that Exynos wasn't compatible with LTE, but it's always been just that--speculation. It's probably some combination of larger chassis in the 7.7 and its higher cost, where in phones it was both cheaper and easier to just use Qualcomm's chipset with integrated LTE baseband.
So does it mean its a better tab considering that it has LTE and exynos , you can always use voip for voice plus it has an IR blaster.

I can't remember where it was originally stated or where I saw it, but EVERY single Samsung LTE equipped phone that originally came with Exynos ended up with a craptastic Qualcomm S3 chip instead. And it's been common knowledge that the reason was Samsung stated LTE was not compatible with Exynos.
So if the solution is to run a seperate LTE chip + Exynos, sounds like the Verizon LTE 7.7 could be a horrible battery sucker then :/

I'd like to pick one up - but I don't want to be under contract, so looks like I'll have to shell out $699+tax for one.
Also, it doesn't look like the USA will be getting a Wifi-only variant any time soon. By then Exynos2 will probably be in other tablets.
It's a gamble buying one of these right now due to only getting 14 days to return it to Verizon (plus the $35 restocking fee).

Specifically only LTE Samsung phones swapped out the Exynos for Snapdragons.
Galaxy S2 on both ATT and Sprint still kept the Exynos intact. The LTE variants unfortunately lost Exynos due to LTE.
So it IS possible that given enough room inside a device, it can be fitted with Exynos AND a independant LTE chip.. and this is why the LTE phones couldn't be Exynos + LTE, not enough room perhaps.

Official: NA LTE Variant will have 2GB RAM

http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/30/canadian-carriers-put-galaxy-s-iii-launch-on-june-20th/
Processor:
Snapdragon S4 Dual Core 1.5 GHz
Qualcomm MSM8960 Chipset
OS (Shipping): ICS 4.0.4
Data: LTE (SGH-i747 variation) and HSPA+ 42 (SGH-iT999 variation)
Memory: 2 GB RAM
I feel happy selling my international sgs3 for 750, 50 more than i paid for now on craigslist lol
Pretty sure that's Canada only.
I could be wrong though, so don't take it to the bank.
Don't bait the trolls.
Everything I've read seems to point to the US S3 variant closely mirroring the Canadian & also launching around June 20th for some carriers.
Update: Samsung's own release has swung our way, and it's providing a slew of details that should closely relate to the US launch. As expected, that's a Snapdragon S4 inside, although we now know that the 2GB of RAM of the NTT DoCoMo version will at least be making its way to Canada as well. The LTE version for Bell, Rogers, Telus and a handful of regional carriers is known as the SGH-i747, while the fabled SGH-T999 stops at 42Mbps HSPA+ and is the edition that Mobilicity, Wind and Videotron will get, since it supports 1,700MHz 3G. There's no mention of a 64GB Canadian Galaxy S III, so you'll still have to import if you frown heavily upon microSD cards.
The Japanese version is said to have 2gb of ram and thats a CDMA version.
I dont know, I think its very possible Samsung is putting 2gb of ram in US and Canada Versions to make up for the dual core only.

i can tell you now that battery life will be superior with the dual-core S4. i don't think you'll be able to tell in every day situations which one is faster. i'll take the S4 and LTE personally.
I'll most likely keep my Int. version and see how the data/processor speeds are before I consider jumping on a contract extension and get the US LTE version. I am a fan of the HOME button, which I'm fairly sure will dissapear on AT&T's version. Also not a fan of the bloatware AT&T loads up their phones with that may uneccessarily hamper battery/RAM.
Will the S4 variant have as much dev support as the international? I sure hope so.
Except for high end gaming, S4 will perform just as well as Exynos in everyday use and have longer battery life.

I doubt the carrier specific versions will receive the same level of dev attention as the international version. Don't get me wrong, there will boat loads of roms but it will be segmented between carriers.
There will always be porting issues between versions.
The international version is global. Also compounded with the fact it probably the most hyped/sought after Android phone so far.

Definitely Dual-Core with 2GB RAM. I will be waiting a bit more too.
The bottleneck of all phones today is the memory not the CPU.

How did this speculation become a fact now? Stop making up stories and repeating it over and over without any evidence whatsoever. The one s with the non lte s4 has 680mb free ram compared to 600mb on the one xl . The evo 3d with it's last generation s3 snapdragon has 800mb. Does that mean they have dedicated memory. Has the exynos processor really been given the no go in the US?

I work at at&t and was speaking with one of the higher business managers in the company for my region who talked about the S4 having a new exynos 8 core processor to blow away the competition. I asked him if he was sure of that processor and he claimed he was just telling me what he was told, but he'd get back to me on confirming that for sure.
Also, the article on engadget about the "exynos arm11" processor being spotted on that same model number interested me but I figured it was just just rumor milling to be honest until I talked to him today.
I realize the ARM11 processor doesn't match entirely, but it seems very coincidental model number wise.
Anyways, just to show I'm not trying to blowing out hot water, I also included a picture of my badge with a hello.

Until we have official confirmation by Samsung on LTE availability nothing is set in stone even if someone on XDA who has never touched the phone thinks that it is. Just for that simple fact, this thread should remain separate and is entirely necessary at this point considering that there have been a few small rumors being tossed around about AT&T getting the Octa variant.

Exactly. This thread is extremely relevant because there actually is a possibility of AT&T getting the Octa version due to the bands. Until anything is confirmed, the speculation is certainly justified.

LOL!
If you want to:
-Pay 200 dollars more expensive(import tax + local seller commission)
-Have a bigger size(korea version is thicker than us one) and have stupid korea restriction(sms limitation, etc...)
-Take a phone who only support Korea 4G frequency and imcompatible with all other country
You can surely go for this version. No problem!!!

You're in the US correct? Would you please share with us your experience with the device and how good or bad it is working for you? Does it work on any US LTE networks at all? Thanks

Unfortunately in my area there isn't LTE or real 4G.
I was able to tweak my network settings with SKT Hidden Menu so I'm receiving the best 3G (4Mbps/500kbps) for my area.
I should have waited before buying. The Google clean S4 version would have been a better choice.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Too bad we still don't have the answer since not very many people have the Korean S4 in the US. When I get an S4 I'm planning to use it for VOIP on LTE. I've read that LTE has lower latency than HSPS+(or whatever that is) which makes VOIP phone calls acceptable in terms of lag time.

This worked on my E300S.
http://www.cultofandroid.com/27192/rooting-the-international-galaxy-s4-the-right-way-how-to/
Note, The new firmware update (pda: E300SKSUAME6) will take away root and prevent you from rooting again using the old method.

Wifi vs LTE version

Hi,
I'm wondering:
The LTE version has quad core while wifi verison has octa core.
Will there be any speed difference? or Battery difference?
I read from one Review that the Lag on the S800 Version (quad core) is less than on the Exynos.
This can be interesting.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Note...t-core-performance-patch-says-Samsung_id47977
Last weekend i got the Wifi Version. I have performance problems and the device was very hot. So i wait for the Version with the S800 and hope it will be better.
Speed difference I'm not too sure but I doubt it's going to be a noticeable difference.
Battery difference is most likely going to be less on the lte version versus wifi only.
My opinion is that if you're not planning on using lte, you should get the wifi only version because it's going to be cheaper and performs just as well.

It only about 30 bucks difference between the wifi and the LTE.
So I'm actually considering LTE in any case if I needed it. Was worrying LTE might not perform as well as the wifi one.

In my country it's delay release of the note 10.1 cause they wanna release the LTE version at the same time as wifi version. But for now third party retailers do not have wifi sets. They only carry the LTE version. At offical retailers, they are selling the wifi at 798 SGD and LTE at 998 SGD, while third party retailers selling the LTE version at 840 SGD

It's only about a $30 difference if you are willing to sign a 2 year contract. Don't forget about paying Verizon or AT&T for 24 months.

What about the 3g version? Does anybody know whether there will be SM-P6010 model with WiFi/3G and 8 cores? Is it going to have a phone function like the WiFi version?

There`s something wrong, SM-P601 is the 3G model , SM-P605 is the LTE , they are showing 601 as the LTE , even the "Features" under "Overview" are messed up , mentioning snapdragon with Octa Core Processor, while it should show quad core cloocked at 2.3 GHz.

Actually they're not saying it has LTE. They're calling it LTA

sent negri a message about that. i would like the 3g version if the lte won't do calls anyway. loved being able to use my unlimited att phone plan with my note 10.1, this would be great. just to confirm, the sm-p601 uses micro sims right?

LTE can do phone calls as the 3G & both runs on micro sims.

hmm, but will the international lte play nice with my att bands? my lte xperia z1 has lte but doesn't do 850 for ATT with LTE, so stuck on 4g anyway.

I don't want LTE because I don't want to pay for another data plan, or be forced onto one of AT&T's new share plans. I have tethering with my AT&T data plan (5 GB), so I can just fire up my LG Optimus G Pro if WiFi isn't around.

Then you have to pay more for data too. You will either have to pay for another data plan, or be on one of those new share plans.
