I just updated to ics via ota and rooted my note. No custom Roms loaded.
I would like to tweak my phone for better battery life. Installed setcpu.
Anyone can share what's your stable setting?
Thanks in advance

Not sure what setcpu will give you for better battery life. Your not running an custom kernel to allow UV. The only thing you can do is set a screen of profile(I don't suggest this) or under clock it.
What's the normal cpu level?

Base on overnight status, I am running on 88% on 200mhz. Phone not sleeping at all.
Guys, or can u suggested a stable custom rom ? The reason why i am not on custom rom is because i am not sure which os more stable. I didn't want to end up flashing my phone every other day. I just wanted better battery life, and probably some mod to quicken the charging process. I use my phone mainly for whatsapp, email, foruming. Not really into games.

Hey guys. I recently rooted my gt540 for the first time. Everything went smoothly, i installed a rom with fastboot, installed clockwork recovery and then the problems came. I installed swiftdroid 2.3.7 and i noticed the battery was draining too fast. The only thing that was on was wifi. I dont even use a sim in that phone. I left the phone at home and when i came home 5hours later it turned off. I thought this rom was to blame so I installed polish blood beta 6 ics rom. When i'm using the phone the battery is draining very fast. And also when i plug it in it is recharging too fast. It goes from 40% to 60% in a minute. Before I started installing these custom roms my phone could last weeks in standby mode with wifi on. Does anyone know the solution to this problem? Thanks in advance

You have two options, first from the android market download battery calibration, charge your phone to 100 % or when phone indicates "charged", run battery calibration and click calibrate, it will remove battery stats from the system (you need to do this every time you flash a rom, the second method, after your phone is fully charged, go into clockwork recovery (power + home), choose advance, and choose remove battery stats to remove it, restart and enjoy, hope it helps!

Our phone is not suitable for later versions on android, tha one you mentioned are roms which eat a lot of battery.......if you are lookin for battery performance switch to 2.1 roms.......

So then it's not just my phone. But it seems illogical that it drains so fast. If I used this phone as my personal device it wouldnt last me even two hours of active usage. What's the point of these ROMS if they cant get you at least through the day?

Sent from my GT540 using XDA
using sdsl final v1 last me 2 days (very low usage music sms calls) huge balls LOL
With sdsl 1 day and batt drain down to10%.
Thats the bill that you will pay by using custom roms xD

Of course who wont want better battery
I am used to bad battery life (My optimus 3D barely lasts a day). I was just a little surprised with bad battery life on gt540 after installing a custom rom. Thanks for the answers.

Hi
Latest LPA ICS update is draining my battery badly, 50% drain over 5 hours with gps+wifi+3g off and no talking or doing anything..
reading about all roms since 2 days but still confused.
which rom should I go with? my first try...
also I have rooted ics stock rom with stock recovery and kernel.. how to proceed?
Read the threads to find out which causes your drain.
Im on LPA with Gl-notecore 1.3 extreme kernel, no issues with battery drain.

I use the latest goku kernel. With this kernel the wakelock problem is resolved. You can use an app like cpu spy to see if your device goes into deep sleep state. Since you mentioned such an intense battery drain I suspect your device not going into deep sleep.

Asylum rom with the unnamed kernel kick ass! I highly recommend it. So smooth and battery life is amazing

I've been running the latest nightly (20120722) for a few days now with less than stellar battery life. It seems that everytime I run an AOSP rom the main battery culprits appear to be cell and phone idle, where's with a Sense rom, it' the screen. I have a relatively new battery. I'd say moderate use, typically.
Anyone have suggestions on getting better battery life with CM7? I'm running the stock kernel at 245/800, ondemand, deadline. Also running V6 supercharger at 5.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've gotten 12+ hours today of cm7.2 7/15 nightly and barely at 50%
Did lots of recordings and such.
Dunno
I don't use the v6 script, or do any mods at all.
Just run it as is.
Stock battery too.

Yeah I've gone back to 7/15 to see if it's any better. I seem to remember it being better; I'll report back later today. Still curious why cell standby is the main battery eater on CM7 (or AOSP ROMs in general) as compared with say, SSX or newSENSE, which was the display...

Aosp shows true signal where Sense won't. So AOSP having a cell standy over display sounds about right. Sense always thinks it has signal and AOSP has no signal thanks to sprint. In my area Sprint blows, so that's what I *think

This is better.. I went back to the previous nightly (20120715) for a few days now. Still moderate use.
I'm currently running the stock kernel at 245/1.21, ondemand, deadline. Without V6 supercharger and I didn't flash the ICS theme either.
Perhaps the 20120722 nightly did not play well with my device.

If V6 SuperCharger is not setup correctly, or the setting is to high. Your Battery life can take a hit.
So actually I am a big fan of ps one games and I can't resist to not play ps1 games on my phone.
Well I am worrying about there battery drain here.
After playing a game on my epsxe and fpse(about 35 minutes) I go from 100% down to 69%
Is it normal? or not?
(also my phone heats up after this amount of time)
Most likely you need to change CPU settings, including voltage.

I am on stock android(rooted)
Can you recommend me a good Rom-Kernel combo ?
Cause this is my first android experince, and I am not sure what the best rom is for a beginner like me is .
I also do not want to damage my phone by tweeking with the cpu and voltage settings.
Should I wait maybe for stable roms? Cause I see alot of nightlies roms.
Also I am not familiar with the term "milestone rom"
Thanks in advance.
Any of the custom kernels should last a bit longer than stock. I use IntersectRaven's kernel. I have fpse but haven't gotten around to putting any iso's on here yet so I'm sorry I can't give any report. You could also try lowering the brightness while you play, and turning off data or just enabling airplane mode if you don't mind not being able top receive calls or texts while you play.

You can stick with stock ROM rooted but you can under clock it. The emulator doesn't need a lot of power, I use yo use it on my 600mhz phone so it should be fine with the nexus. Also stock rooted is the most stable.

Or keep the phone plugged charging while playing, this phone is a battery hog, i mean am not trying to generalize, but seems like some people try to multitask all day long on a mobile device with no removable battery, i mean really, think about a gadget trying to process console games, web, content, gps, screen activity, all at the same time, come on people at the end this is a phone not an alienwarelike or multitasking wireless gaming console

Thanks for the replies guys !
Should I use SetCpu in order to under clock it?
Also I heard many positive things about the franco kernel, is it worth giving a shot?

I haven't tried it personally but, you should still give it a shot. And setcpu is fine.

Most custom kernels lag more than the stock kernel.
If you want to go the custom kernel route for (at the moment) better battery life, go either CyanogenMod(the one included in their ROM) or Franco.
I did a few searches and wasn't really able to pull up much in the way of battery tweaks, what's everyone doing in terms of this? I'm currently running stock rom, all I did was fully update after getting the phone from Sprint and then rooted and proceeded to install twrp using goomanager. I'm coming from the Galaxy S2 running calks GB build, so I'm used to 3 days of battery with heavy usage! I know this phone won't be able to achieve that right out of the gate with the current level of development going on, but I'm sure I can optimize it some how. I'd consider going to a custom ROM and kernel..flashing seems similar to the S2 but I'm nervous!

I've never heard good things about those kinds of apps...maybe because they didn't get along well with custom tweaks? Do they work well with stock setups?

Tried it... and if anything I got LESS battery life because it runs in the background constantly.
@vadyr56 Download KT SGS4 Kernel, I'd also recommend to download GSam Battery Monitor and see if you have anything running in the background a little too much!
I get phenomenal battery life with no tweaks stock rooted. I turn off most things since I don't use them and thats about it.

I have everything turned on (Google Now, all Samsung Goodies like Gestures, S-Voice Voice commands, etc.) and still manage to get a day and a half with like 3-5 hrs of on screen time.
