This is the #1 reason I root my phones. I even jailbreaked my iPhone 3G back in the day for the same reason. What does "download hidden" mean? I'm assuming you're using TBU to back up the apk?
Awesome sauce!
SGS3 awaiting some dev love
No worries y'all. This app has been avail for a long time. I agree, I was very happy to find it to hold me over until custom Roms become available. I feel like I want to dust off Kitchen, but I'm not that talented and I'm sure others are already lightyears ahead of where I'd be starting.
Anyone know if FoxFi works. It doesn't even need root...haven't tried it yet, but it worked on the Nexus.

Yep TB for back up and remove it from showing up in market ( Google can remove a app from your phone without ur permission I read about it when last year someone made a Hitler app and Google uninstalled it from all phones that had it ) then appmonster.apk so I can physically have the app .. jic . Tested FoxFi and it works, as well as the FoxFi plugin with the proxy enable.
FoxFi is working fine for me.
Used it all day today.
Ok, so this program does what exactly? It masks to packets with the device identity and responds with the selected device description posing as something else. It should have a "clone your own device" to make sure that att does not get any notice of the device chg......

This does not belong in development.
Development is for kernels, ROMS an mods
Moving this to general
On the Thrill, you can goto connectivity test in hiden menu to disable Entitlement to allow free wifi tethering without root. Can the same be done on the Galaxy S III?
If you are rooted, remove TetheringManager.apk and use a Wifi hotspot to toggle on/off. I use Widgetsoid2.x in the android market.
A word of caution. I've used WiFi Tether For Root User on my Thrill before. The problem is that it allows tethering even with the Entitlement enabled. Because of this, I got a text from AT&T warning me that tethering requires tethering plan. A few days later, I got a letter in the mail stating that tethering requires a tethering plan.
I have since disable Entitlement and deleted the Entitlement APN. Been tethering since without AT&T sending warning text and letter.
Now, does anyone know a guarantee way to tether the S III without AT&T knowing you're tethering.
Does this tethering app eat up phone plan data?

Ok, here we go, im new to these fourms but not new to android, I resently got my samsung galexy s3 from sprint and had lots of fun with it. but, like many of you, I had noticed Google Wallet stopped working. I was in line at a vending machine and put my phone up looking all cool and, nothing. lol.
w/e here is what I did:
before I flashed cwm on my phone I made a backup. this is what saved me. the problem is Samsung pushed an update to fix it, but if u got cwm you cant install it.
1. go to your application manager, under the all tab find wallet and clear the data.
2. make a cwm backup. and restore your old backup before you flashed cwm. or you will need to find a way to return to stock.
3. if you are rooted you will need to unroot (i think you can reroot after, don't take my word for it). i used this guide www DOT epiccm.org/2012/06/sprint-sgs3-stock-restore.html
you can get odin from here: forum DOT xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1670973
replace DOT with .
i cant post urls XD
4. now boot up and update google wallet from play store (in the mean time, If you see the samsung update popup, cancel it!)
5. now go to your application manager, under the all tab find wallet and clear the data.
6. now go to settings -> system update -> update samsung software.
6. let it restart and update.
7. on boot up go and try to update wallet again from play store
8. open wallet and have fun!
(note that you are now unrooted and you don't have cwm)
Now all we need is a way to reset the flash counter!
Don't forget to hit thanks if this helped!
I wouldnt recommend clearing the wallet data like that, you need to go into the wallet app itself and clear the data that way, otherwise you can brick wallet forever.
Looks like a lot of work for a can of Coke or a hamburger from mcdonalds. When are people going to realized google wallet is a joke, just use a regular credit card for can a coke instead of trying to impress the old lady behind the counter.

Unless one could link your own credit or debit card to wallet, I found it repetitive and dumb funding wallet with my debit card. After the 3rd time I looked at myself and I said "what the hell am I doing?" I just use my regular debit card for purchases. Once the novelty wears off I'm sure everyone will do the same.

No, once you put your debit card information in, you don't have to keep re-entering it to fund wallet (not necessarily a good thing). Also, I fund GW about once a week, not every time I use it.
So I need to root flash to pre update software, get GW working, then update to current software and unroot ???? BLAH

I really want the S4 but won't pull the trigger until I can do all 3.
1) Ability to tether for free.
2) Google Wallet
3) Able to root without tripping counter ... And receive official updates..
Is this possible yet?
Thinking of maybe getting the note 2 if we don't get the boot loader unlocked...

It's already been released that the bootloader was unlocked but is not being released until the Verizon variant comes out for obvious reasons. It's a great phone rooted out of the box with AT&T crapware gone, so it's your choice: wait a few weeks for development or go ahead and get one that has dev support.
Btw: The number 2 is Verizon for waiting to release the S4 a MONTH after everyone else.

Here's the Q&A from the person who has already hacked the bootloader:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2259933
---------- Post added at 11:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:06 PM ----------
And on the 2st page of that thread:
"Because if he releases the exploit or details now, Verizon can use that information to fix their implementation. It's not guaranteed this approach will work on the Verizon device, but it's FAR less likely if he publishes info on the exploit now. Even this announcement could bode ill for the hopes of Verizon customers - you can guarantee it is going to trigger another round of security review at Samsung and Verizon.
As a result, you're not going to see any detail until then."
Got it. That makes sense..
And thanks for not ripping my ignorance..
I guess I can wait another 2 weeks before I upgrade. No rush until we know for sure we are good to go.

Then maybe you should wait until the unlocked bootloader is released and the S4 has custom recovery, at which time there will probably be a CWM installable zip file for the Google Wallet.

If you were able to add a discover card to GW, then I see no reason why it wouldn't work. CVS in your area may not have their terminals turned on. There are several businesses here in Portland that have the terminals, but they were never enabled. I'd go into RiteAid pharmacy and they would look at me like I was a thief when I used tap & pay! Later, they disabled the whole thing.
Just used it at CVS... Worked like a charm
Tested it at a CVS today. Bought a diet mountain dew. No problems at all. Guy didn't even give it a second glance.

Hey all,
We got S5s for work, and they are pretty locked down. Pretty sure I know the answer, but thought I would ask the experts here. The Play store is basically whitelisted, meaning we can only download a handful of apps, anything else get blocked on installation. I'm guessing now that Android is all grown up for Enterprise, they have the lock-down in full effect (meaning it is what it is). There are some apps (like an alarm clock for Daydream!) that are locked down as well. We're using Knox as well.
So, any workarounds that won't get me fired?
Thanks

You mean load one on the device and install? Sorry, don't want to assume. When I try and install an app outside the approved list, it installs, then is immediately removed and I get a message saying it has been blocked by IT policy. I didn't want to screw around with ODIN or rooting, as I thought it would send off alerts at corporate when I tried and access the server again (knowing it had been tampered with). Does Android not have that functionality?

The phone can be rooted and security policies can be (as with Exchange email clients) circumvented but if they physically check the phone, you may get fired. You are better off using your own phone.

Yeah, corporate set us up in Knox, but they locked the crap out of the "personal" side of the phone. I'm guessing that Android has "evolved" on the enterprise side to rival BB in the field of Crippling Otherwise Good Phones.

im sure its not brand new to android just more advanced with the s5 than ever before.. and locked down or not the s5 is a great device.. its your job that has rendered it less useful.. then again if they give you a "work" phone why would you risk your job trying to turn it into a "personal" device? what phone do you use as a personal device lol?
