[Q] Audio crackling issue in stock music player with screen on - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

I am having issues with intermittent audio crackling when playing music through the stock music player and Google Music when the screen is on. The issue occurs when playing audio through both the speaker and headphones. The issue happens more frequently when navigating around the phone's interface. Turning the screen off seems to solve the issue.
The issue does not occur with WinAmp.
I know the international version has audio crackling issues with the screen turned off, but this is the opposite behavior. Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue, or have any thoughts about how to fix it?

I hear static when an audio line-out is plugged into the headphone jack with the music NOT playing. With the music playing, the static goes away. I am using PowerAmp. I've never tried the stock player and PowerAmp doesn't crackle when playing.

FWIW - you'll often hear faint static when your usb is charging from a noisy computer instead of the A/C wallwart.

The charger I'm using has no problems with GS 2 nor the Galaxy Note.

I tried PowerAmp and there is no crackle. I am concerned that the crackle is a sign of an underlying hardware issue on my phone if no one else is experiencing similar issues.

For me the issue occurs whether or not the phone is charging.

[Q] Acer Iconia A500 headphone jack issue

Hey guys I was wondering if anybody else has had this issue occur with their device, recently my A500 has been playing audio from the speakers and headphones at the same time. This only happens on 2 out of 5 times, and when it does all I have to do is unplug the headphones and plug them back in. Yes, I have tried different pairs of headphones so that is not the problem. I need to know if this is an issue with the A500 itself( hardware) or if it could be a software issue just so I know whether to have it exchanged for a new one or not.
Appreciate the feedback guys
I'm sure it's unlikely to be a hardware issue as the headphone jack seems to work fine.
My vote is software bug. What are you using to listen to music? What steps are you taking to go from speakers to headphone - during playback? Before playback? Pausing playback, changing to headphones then starting playback?
Can you repeat any steps to get it to bug out on a regular basis or is it completely random?
It could be a music app bug or a HC bug. I have read others having similar problems since release but I don't believe anyone has found a solution/or the cause or done any testing.

yes i have been experiencing the same issue. this is where i have noticed it
When i start the music player app and plugin the jack and start music and then if the screen turns of or pause it and screen turns of and when i resume the same after sleep the music plays on both speaker and head phones this was not happening on 3.01 and happening on 3.1
i have tested this please confirm play music plug in the jack and then press power button which goes to sleep mode when u press the power button one more time and resume music this happens
One more thing is when i remove the jack the music app just pops up on the tool bar as in the status bar at the bottom

Hey matrix I tried reproducing your issue but it was fine, sound only came from the headphones. Btw I am using virtuousgalaxy rom, although when the issue started I was on virtuouspicasso
Having the same problem on my stock 3.1. Sometimes i need to unplug and plug in headphones multiple times to get it back to normal behaviour.
yup
Have had nothing but strange issues when using the stock music player. Sound coming from headphones/speakers at the same time, random fc's, horrid popping sounds from a perfect mp3 file, and my personal favorite feature - sometimes the player just starts up on it's own and blares music at inappropriate times.
Had these issues with stock music player since 3.0.1 up to the stock 3.1 build I am using.
My solution? Remove the stock music player from the system, download winamp, ???, profit

Headphones Distortion / Background Noise

Hi - just wondering if anyone else noticed some background noise / distortion when using headphones on the tab 7.7.
Happens when playing any sound and continues for 2-3 seconds after it stops. Tested with the stock buds and some replacement buds I picked up a few days ago. With my over the ear headphones I can't hear it though. Easiest way to test is just by playing a movie and pausing it.... there is a hissing noise for a few seconds afterwards.
Maybe related: even with headphones plugged in, notification sounds come out of the speakers - this is my first Android device so I'm not sure if that's normal or not.
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or if it might be hardware related. Thanks!

Yeah I get that too. Doesn't really bother me though. I mean, it's not like I can still hear it while playing music or anything...
Mine's pretty noticable, even when playing music/videos. Weird that it's totally quiet with my over-the-ear headphones

Personally, I only really notice it if there's a trailing silence from music or videos, but while there's actually sound, I can't detect it.

Static sound from headphones problem

Hi all,
I'm currently having a issue where my headphones would produce static whilst audio is playing (Like watching a YouTube video), I can still hear the video but it has static which continues for a few seconds after the audio stops.
It happens on all videos I watch on YouTube, Just as a easy example.
The headphones work fine as I use with my phone and PC.
I believe the cause is with 'DSP Manager' which comes with the ROM I use.

None of the settings in the app are enabled.
Is there a way to stop this?
Thanks, J.
AW: Static sound from headphones problem
The solution of your problem could be that you are charging your device. If i have headphones plugged in while charging, I always hear some background noise.

Noise on headphones while charging?

Has anyone else noticed the sound is a little distorted through headphones whenever the phone is charging up? I noticed it while playing my mp3's in the work van via the aux input, the sound kinda squeaks and squeaks while the phone's on charge. It's perfectly fine when unplugged, and the player used makes no difference. Thinking it's a hardware quirk.

Hi,
Now that you mention it,I heard something similar when I was charging it on the move the other day.
I will listen out more carefully next time.
I thought it was the vehicle that I was driving that was squeaking.
If you listen to a song with clear breaks in the sound, you can hear the squealing die out as the sound does.
Just tested but I don't hear any noises

While charging?

Encountered two issues on my i9505 today

FWhile listening to music through earphones the music sounds fine. But today I connected it to aux on my friends car stereo and you could your hear a loud hiss. An iphone 5 and htc one were fine so its not the car stereo.
The other issue is that today when I unlocked my phone I sometimes had a weird screen distortion before the homescreen was visible.
Wondering if anybody else encountered the same issues
2 different volume types
What probably happened was the volume on your S4 was set low, which resulted in you turning your car speakers up. When this happens, you get a lot more of a static sound. make sure the volume on your phone is turned up enough next time
I don't have an S4 or know about your other problem; sounds pretty weird though. Probably just a bug.

Its a known issue when using low impedance headphones or devices. Check here:

Ilabs i just checked out the other thread and i think my problem with the sound is off different nature. The hiss sounds like a high pitch tone and it only starts to appear when I click on play and even remains when I click on stop. Only unplugging the cable helps.

Probably a one time incident, haven`t had it myself so far. If it should happen more often do a data factory reset.
