can no longer set ringtone/mp3 for calendar notification - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

in ics on my sgs i/ and sgs ii you could set this..
on the sgs iii goto calendar and then settings and there is a "select ringtone" options but it just lists the built in crap sounds.. any ideas..
i need a loud song for my calendar notifications.
thanks

solution:
none built in i can fine.. but i got this free app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bitfire.development.calendarsnooze&hl=en
prettry cool lets me set my mp3 ringtone (loud... the cult rain) for calendar notifications and it also even lets you set the led color (which works but the wrong color just like all the others ;; yellow = light purple)

Media scanner doesn't seem to be scanning the external card (maybe other spots) like it used to (or the apps are not using the full list) - if you copy whatever you're looking for into /sdcard/media/audio etc. it should show up - did for me.

crappy calendar notification

if you set an alarm on the calender item you get a 2 sec. sound and that is it..
anyone know a way to change the calender notification sound and/or make it longer... and louder thanks.
You cannot change the sound so easily. The SGS would need a trackpad ou touchpad to select the Calender of which you want to change the notification sound.
But you can try searching calender notifier in market. This should allow you to change the sound. Personally haven´t tried it because i don´t use the calender to remind me.

this pissing me off too:/
Yeah, and I thought I ve done something wrong. Unbelivable. I am starting to think that Android has not so much over Symbian. Very dissapointed. For every little damn thing we need to get a third party application. I am moving to Nokia N8 as soon as it's released. This android is exactly like windows mobile. A bunch of third party apps to get the basic stuff going.

I use this calendar snooze, its brilliant, you get a prompt to snooze for any length of time, just like in old windows mobile and you can setup the calendar notification sound, etc...
if your phone is rooted you can change the notification sound, i've done this some week ago by replacing original audio file with a custom and longer sound. If you want to try search in developement or theme forum

Can't change notification sound!

I just recently decided to change my notification sound from the Growing Mushroom on Mario to the "Message" quote from Don't be a Menace. My phone won't let me change my notification sound to ANYTHING! Is there something I'm doing wrong? A setting I'm overlooking? Please help...

I was just playing with the notification sounds.
One way I got my sound files to show up in the notifications sounds list is by creating a folder named "notifications" in the root folder of my sdcard and putting the files in there.
Other than that option I don't know how to get the files onto the phone memory. The issue with that is if I remove the sdcard the notification sounds won't play anymore.
I also don't know how to move(delete)/add sound files to the phone's default notification sounds..if anyone could share that too
Im pretty sure if you use Ringdroid from the market, you can save your sound as a ringtone or notification and they will show up in the default list of sounds.
That's the thing! They're available to choose as my notification tone, but after I set the new tone and I get a text, it's the same one I had before. It doesn't change!!!
Ex: my notification tone is twinkle twinkle little star and I decide to change it to three blind mice. I go to my options and change the setting to three blind mice. After saving it, I get a text and twinkle twinkle little star plays. I've checked on my sd card and it's on there. Even if I chose to one of the phone's default notification tones it still won't play when I get a text!!!

Hi,
Here is a new app to choose led color and frequency for gmail, SMS, missed calls, battery and disk space notifications. You can also configure a notification for the notification toolbar (ringtone and vibration) for your gmail inbox.
This is a BETA version for HTC DESIRE. I will hopefully add support other devices on future updates.
You would need to disable stock led notifications from home/menu/settings/display/notification flash and gmail notifications from gmail app/menu/more/settings

Just done a quick test and the led doesnt seem to turn off after you have read your emails, works fine in all the others, cant test disk space coz i have loads haha
Would it be possible to have an option not to have the led blinking, just to stay on
Can somebody please attach this app here in this tread? I can not find it..:-(
Sorry I am still not allowed to post links.
Here is the QR Code. Anyway, there is a public google profile called p0w4Apps where you can find it.
Nice App !
I'm testing it right now.
Could you consider adding a Mail/Exchange notification as well? Would be great
Edit : The gmail notification won't stop
Maybe on future updates. I'm currently focused on get an stable version then I'll start with new features
Ok
Keep up the good work !
Works well but there is an issue where it toggles through a few colours for example
Set blue for the SMS and get and SMS and it works flashes blue but every so often it goes green > Cyan > Blue Blue Blue Blue green > Cyan > Blue and so on.
The other thing would be great is if you could add reminders with a colour that would be super useful.

That is because you did not disabled stock led notifications and it overlaps with the app notification. I'll try to automate it on further updates but you should disable stock notifications manually at the moment. Please refer my first post to do so.

+1 on that!
Great work, i've been waiting for an app like this for a long time !
Currently testing the app, will report when i know more.
Do you plan to support K9 in future updates ?
What about an option for a persistent led instead of a blinking one ?

With 1.05, SMS bug fixed, thanks for this great app.

I really like that and some other people requested it to me too. I'll try my best to include in next update custom frequency option and if no off ms is provided then will be persistent

Would you mind writing a line or so about how the app consumed battery? I guess it's a service running in the background. Does it use a lot of battery?

[Q] Custom Lockscreen, built from the ground up?

Do any exist and what does it take?
Basically I'm envisioning the standard Android lock screen, except for the right slider. I don't use it for vibrate, so it goes unused.
So, I would like to replace the right side slider with a smart button that allows you to open notifications based upon what you have received.
If you have an unread text, it shows a text message icon and sliding it opens to your texting app. Same thing for Gmail. Obviously its possible to have more than one type of notification, so there would need to be some sort of hierarchy (say Texts > Gmail > Email > WordFeud > Facebook > etc) so that it only opens the most important to you. Users could choose like 3-5 apps that would work with it.
If you have no notifications, then it should default to a single app you use regularly, but does not necessarily have/need notifications (Camera, Google Reader, etc).
Changing the background color of the icon would also be a good way to help differentiate between the default slider, and one that would open a new notification. For example, on the current stock lock screen, the vibrate slider has a gray background. You could keep the gray background for the default app, but when you have a text or email, the icon would change to that app and the background could change to a specified color (say orange for a text, green for an email, etc).
In addition, I wouldn't mind having the weather on the lockscreen as well. Too often do I find myself having to unlock my phone just to check the temperature outside. Obviously the down side to this is having to poll for weather data, but it is something I'd be more than willing to live with. Especially if one could chose how often it updated (30 mins, 1 hour, 3 hours, etc).
I realize most of this can be done with Widgetlocker (or maybe Cyanogen), but honestly I don't like using it and it does not feel polished enough for me. So would something like this have to be baked into a ROM, coded from scratch or whatever? Are there any devs who do this kind of work? is this level of detail even realistically possible given the nature of Android? is this even the right forum?
Just saw the last part, but I think it's still your best bet.
Just curious why don't you like widget locker, it does everything you asked for?

custom puzzle slider for widget locker
can some one please make a puzzle slider for widget locker.
i love the puzzle unlock feature.
i would love for the puzzle piece to be the chicago whitesox logo.
thankyou in advance.

First galaxy coming from iPhones

Hi everyone, so this time for the first time I got a galaxy, I'm still trying to figure out all its possibilities but there's some things that I'd really loved but can't find out how to do them and I'd need some help.
The first thing is that I'd like to mute some notifications for instance when I receive a notification on YouTube I'd love to be able to read it on the lock screen or notification center but I want no vibration nor sound
The other thing is that I really need a music app that can show lyrics, I have lyrics for all of my songs but the standard music app doesn't appear to show them
I really thank you for your help
Use power amp for your music needs, has a trial version u can try before buying
Musixmatch is the app you need for music, its free

Musixmatch looks for the lyrics in the or database or internet bit I already have all the lyrics for my songs, I just need a player in which I can see them.
I tried eleven from cyanogenmod but that shows only lyrics from srt files, I added them in iTunes on the metadata in fact when I, on my iPhone, pressed once on the album art it would show the ones I added.
I tried rocket launcher but didn't like how it showed them, is there really nothing as simple as pressing on the album art (while song is playing) to show the lyrics?
Thanks for helping me out
With respect to notifications, you should check the individual app settings around notifications. Many of them have discrete controls for sound+notification bar and allow you to set things as desired (for example I use Textra for SMS and it does that) but I'd expect not all do.
The notification sound settings in the base system settings will effectively be the default for any app that does not otherwise control the values.

Yes indeed you are right, I couldn't find much notification settings in the galaxy settings but I found for instance Twitter notification sound in the Twitter settings, unfortunately they don't work, they won't save so I end end up disabling them altogether
