Hi,
Here is a new app to choose led color and frequency for gmail, SMS, missed calls, battery and disk space notifications. You can also configure a notification for the notification toolbar (ringtone and vibration) for your gmail inbox.
This is a BETA version for HTC DESIRE. I will hopefully add support other devices on future updates.
You would need to disable stock led notifications from home/menu/settings/display/notification flash and gmail notifications from gmail app/menu/more/settings
Feedback and bug reports are always welcome

Just done a quick test and the led doesnt seem to turn off after you have read your emails, works fine in all the others, cant test disk space coz i have loads haha
Would it be possible to have an option not to have the led blinking, just to stay on
Can somebody please attach this app here in this tread? I can not find it..:-(
Sorry I am still not allowed to post links.
Here is the QR Code. Anyway, there is a public google profile called p0w4Apps where you can find it.
Nice App !
I'm testing it right now.
Could you consider adding a Mail/Exchange notification as well? Would be great
Edit : The gmail notification won't stop
Maybe on future updates. I'm currently focused on get an stable version then I'll start with new features
Ok
Keep up the good work !
Works well but there is an issue where it toggles through a few colours for example
Set blue for the SMS and get and SMS and it works flashes blue but every so often it goes green > Cyan > Blue Blue Blue Blue green > Cyan > Blue and so on.
The other thing would be great is if you could add reminders with a colour that would be super useful.

That is because you did not disabled stock led notifications and it overlaps with the app notification. I'll try to automate it on further updates but you should disable stock notifications manually at the moment. Please refer my first post to do so.

+1 on that!
Great work, i've been waiting for an app like this for a long time !
Currently testing the app, will report when i know more.
Do you plan to support K9 in future updates ?
What about an option for a persistent led instead of a blinking one ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
With 1.05, SMS bug fixed, thanks for this great app.

Great work! I didn't even know that there are others colors than green and amber
Alarms notifications are missing though
thanks!!

Would you mind writing a line or so about how the app consumed battery? I guess it's a service running in the background. Does it use a lot of battery?

I wonder why Google didn't give us this update that the hacking community has had for so long. Thoughts?
Because they didn't even give us this update... who knows, maybe it will be in the actual release, if this isn't it.
Edit:
It seems that there IS this feature built in, just depens on the app, etc... at least some are reporting colored track ball alerts for differing apps.
I can confirm the above edit. I get different colors but no way of changing to a preference.

Which colors for which alerts? Mine seems white for everything.
On my GF stock nexus phone i updated to froyo and for text it came up as magenta color.
I tried using handcent sms to change the color but i dont think it is configured yet to control that.
Damn, mine's still white.
I just did a little test with AK notepad and set a notification to glow green and sure enough, it works. I guess the individual apps have to give you the option to change the color.

People are getting mixed results with the trackball. I can get AK Notepad to work, but nothing else does. On an AT&T N1

That's what it is. I use SMS Popup for my text notification and the app itself gives me the option to change the trackball color. Everything else is still white.
AK notepad works for me
I can see lilhermit creating a working patch for stock 2.2 seeing that Trackball Alert should work just fine now

Uhm, SMS Popup allows you to use any color for SMS. And I use the Bloo Facebook App that gives me a dark blue notification when I get comments, wall posts, etc.
My color trackball works with AK notepad!
Change the LED color settings, create a new note, set the remind and turn standby mode (press power button) and wait!
I wonder if the .34 kernel from cyanogen breaks the trackball . For those of u who its working what kernel version you have? .34 or .32 stock
I really miss trackball alert and the modifications made to the messaging app, I need my colored notifications back!
There's a reason there are no configurable colors for the trackball.
The update to the trackball is behind the scenes and it's meant for the developers. It's up to the application makers to choose the colors for their notifications.
On the plus side, this is android and that's why we have things like lilhermits trackball notifcation alert modifier. =)
Trackball colors IS in Android 2.2:

Well I was wrong about the color trackball notifications. Apparently there is an API for it now (I don't mind being wrong haha)

The STOCK Google apps don't let you configure the colors, but I'm sure someone will whip up an app to control all the colors within 1 or 2 days
Yeah I'm disappointed with froyo because I wanted color track ball for my gmail, talk, etc. How will third party developers be involved with the core stock Google apps? That was the whole point, Google! I'm sure its only 3 lines of code to add into settings to switch the color.
Otherwise you would just root in the first place which defeats the whole point of waiting all this time for official support in froyo.
Third party developers can and already do send the information to light up the trackball.
Android Technical --
Android Technical just published "Windows Phone Android", a windows phone metro UI launcher for android. The lite version is now in the Android Market.
Lite version include:
Pin to front page tiles
remove from front page
uninstall apps
dark and lite themes
4 accent colors (Blue, Green, Red and Orange)
limited messages (on message area at the top of the screen)

I'm loving this launcher, and I've been looking forward to someone doing this. I've tried the light version and anticipating the pro versions, but I was just wondering (if you haven't already thought about it yet) are you going to make it able for the user to chose it's own tiles to represent an app. For example, I don't use android messenger, I use handcent. So when I pinned Handcent to the quick start it has the blue icon and it's called Handcent, and I would want it to be a live tile and just call messaging.
Just bringing this to your attention, looking forward to the pro version. Keep it up.

I think you are the second person with vibrant that is telling us that it is slow. We tested on devices that we have. Nexus One, T-Mo Comet, and LG Optimus T. I will see what I can do. Even on the Comet (528mhz) it is working so... something might be wrong with your phone but I would love to see it in person to see the actual speed differences.

Our thoughts are to keep the light simple and plain (thus lite and free). More of a demo version if you want to think of it that way. We will have the regular version with some user enabled features and pro with our own live tiles and hubs and such (eg, new contacts screens, new music player etc). Nothing is fully set in stone yet. Just wanted to see how people will like the idea. Considering it took 2 people to code this in about 30 hours each, it's not bad. But we do android rapid prototyping and deployment for a living though.
Is there supposed to be a battery indicator in the status bar? I don't have one. And signal doesn't really respond there. Also I have to swipe up or down to see anything other than the time. Which I think is kinda cool actually. Just wondering if that's normal. Thanks, and fantastic work.

That is normal. Just the way WP7 does that status bar. It is missing battery indicator. We will put it up with the next update. The status bar comes down for 8 sec on real WP7. Ours does the exact same thing (sans animation)
Really good. Works very good on my galaxy s! Waiting for the pro version! I'll offer you more than a coffe!
Pretty slick! Can't wait to see some new features. It'd be nice to use custom icons, say if we use another app for our dialer or messenger, or even for completely different apps! Custom colours would be nice, too.
Found a bug though, if you open the settings and exit it, and go back, there are some weird glitches, you'll see. (this is if you're not using it as a launcher)
EDIT: A page for widgets would be awesome if you could work that out, or at least a way to quickly change settings(wifi, gps, etc)
EDIT2: A way to move tiles around would be good.

lock screen notifications? they come up in a red circle on the lock screen to show you missed calls/messages

No lock screen notis. Get hand cent from the market. It'll turn the screen on with a pop up of the new text.

having moved from the walled in garden called the iphone, i expected that this functionally would be available by default on android (ICS).
can't believe it's not !
and dont forget you are running a version that is aleaked and not official, official releases might have it included it might not
Also, most Android phones have notification lights that flash different colours for different types of notification.
Samsung decided not to implement this... But there's a great app on Google Play, called NoLed, that can display notifications on the screen. Doesn't use much battery if you set it up right either - rarely even registers on the batt stats!
If you are from the iPhone then something else to warn you about is that any text messages > 3 messages long will be converted to MMS.
Handcent is a good alternative texting app that allows you to control whether or not this happens (there's no option in Android's default messaging app.)
Caught me out and cost me for the MMS messages too since they aren't included in my contract.
CM9 Roms are still in development
I'd recommend you go here http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/ and make a new post asking for this to be included in a future release.
CyanogenMod is strong because it users suggestions are taken on-board if they get enough support from the rest of the community. make the post, put it here and I'll post in support.
and DONATE. even if its £1/$1.6 they will only get better if you give your support.
NoLed is a brilliant tool for screen notifications, with possibility to monitor not only standard things like SMS and mail, you can also monitor apps, like Wordfeud or anything else

This app allows to configure recurrent notifications for each app that is using the standard Android notifications subsystem.
For each app, you can configure the ringtone, vibration, led color, number of repeats and interval of each notification.
Notifications are automatically cancelled if the monitorized app removes the notification.
Also, for each monitorized app you can configure if you like to be notified when a ongoing or clearable notification was created or if the created notification contains a specific text.
This app requires a special permission that needs to be activated after the install (go app settings in order to activate it).
Please, contact if you have troubles or questions.
Market Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryosoftware.notificationsmanager
Compatibility:
Android 4.3 and higher for the standard notifications controller
Android 4.0 to 4.2 for the legacy notifications controller (based on accessibility permissions)

App is nice. Has a lot of potential.
Before bying the pro version:
I have set GMail as the app to work with recurrent notification.
When I set the "Recurrent notification" to silent sound I still hear the sound of the "original notification" as normal. Any workaround ?
Never gave it a chance due to app permissions
I'm worried about the permissions this app wants to be allowed. All text apart from passwords? Still enables it to collect credit card details etc.
Nah ah.
Sorry but I won't be buying this until i can test with more then 1 app (2 would be enough to test good). Also would be nice to be able to change the blinking speed of the led its too fast for my taste.

This app has no effects in battery life. Service is sleeping all the time except when a notification is started.

You need to set silent also for notification in gmail.
This app develops notification and recurrent notification for any app, but you need to silent the stock notification in order to don't have double notifications.

Explain for permissions
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: In order to receive boot completed at startup and initiate the service
VIBRATE: To allow vibrate
INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Required by Google Ads
BILLING: To manage PRO version
READ_PHONE_STATE: Get events when phone call started and ended and silent notifications when in phone call
BIND_NOTIFICATION_LISTENER_SERVICE: (Jelly Bean and Kitkat) To receive notifications and interactuate
BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE: (Ice Cream Sandwich) To receive notifications and interactuate
You refer to a standard Android message that is showed when you enable accessibility permissions to any, but this app is not collecting none, and the Inet access is only used
by the Ads library (by Google). We are not collecting or sharing with none.

Hi,
Have you entered "Notifications Manager" app settings and activated accessibility access or notifications access?
Is needed to activate the app.
Also, you need to disable notifications in Viber and enable notifications for Viber in the Notifications Manager app.
(I assume Viber is generating a statusbar notification when a call)
Thanks

I've tried to use it on galaxy s4 with 4.4.2 and it does work for notification but LED does not work. I've tried with different colors but only use default one.
Any advice?
I cant seem to get this to work with a Nexus 5
It's too bad you can only test it with one app. What if multiple apps cause a conflict somewhere, how would we be able to identify that without purchasing the app? The trial version should be the full product with a time limit of like a week or something. Don't be stingy. =/

For more info, you may go to the link below:

Since Samsung Galaxy S8 onwards, I did not test this app with a real Samsung device. Most of the time I fixed the device-dependent issues according to the feedback from Samsung users. I know this is not a good way and it is not easy to fix a device-dependent issues without a real Samsung device. So I decided to get a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 to clear up some issues that piled up since then.
I have roughly tested the basic functionalities of Light Manager app on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and most of them are working fine.
I will keep testing and fixing the old Samsung issues. If you have found any new issues, you may report here as well.
Thank you.

Thank you.

I am the developer of Light Manager. It is an app to configure notification LED color and its flashing frequency for different notification types.
For more info, you may go to the link below:

light notifications seem to work fine but color is off for certain colors.
red is not red. im using gmail and red color and is appearing as purple.
do i need to turn off samsung led notifs?
edit
never mind, there is a sub color dor different accounts and it was set to link.
so a is working fine.
is there a way to customize voice mail notif color?
So I can finally stop the system flashing red led for low power? I'm at 24%,but i hope so. I freaking hate that "feature"

Voicemail is using the same LED setting as "Missed Call" LED.
See if it works?

You can somehow generate a black color LED while low battery.
Just go into Light Manager > Low Battery and select "Custom color", then set the hex color code to 000000.
See if it works?
I am testing your app. I will keep you updated with errors if there are any. I will put a update in a few days.

oh then ok it works. thx
I have been using the pro version for a long time
on my Samsungs, lgs, note 8 and now with my note 9.
the app works very good.
once in a while I have to restart the app from within the app to make everything work again. that's because sometimes it stops showing the right led color or it works during "sleeping time".
Any way, I find it the best app for me.
I AM JUST WONDERING what is the difference between the app I have (light manager pro v 12.3.5) and the one You show on the top?

Are you using normal mode or alternating mode?
Light Manager Pro has no advertisement. While the one shown on the top is a free version with advertisement.
I am using normal mode.
it's good enough for me.
What is the difference in the different modes? When I changed modes, trying to get alternating notifications, I lost the ability to get notifications on my Gear 2Pro. I went back to "normal" mode & it works fine but I don't see that I have alternating notifications. Now that my watch provides notifications, I don't use the LED the way I used to, if @ all really. But it's nice to be able to glance at it & know what app is alerting me.
Good app.
Will likely buy the Pro version! But do wish there was more explanation about the various modes & options
Nice app been using it for years have it on my S9 Plus and on my Note9 as well i use the pro bought it few years back @mckoo:good::good:

There are three operating modes:
1) Normal Mode - Only one LED notification color will be flashing
2) Alternating Mode - A few LED colors will be flashing alternately when multiple notifications are received
3) Screen Mode - Notifications alert will be shown on screen (For those devices without a physical notification LED, only available for Android 4.3 and above)
You are using Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and alternating mode is not working for you?

The alternating mode seems to be working for me FYI.

I honestly don't know if I was using alternating or screen. I'll pay closer attn & get back to you with that.
Thanks for reply!
@mckoo, shouldn't the app start automatically after boot up? I always have to start it w/ my Note 9 (and also with my Note 4). How do I have it startup automatically? Thanks for a great app.

There's a start on boot selector in the settings. Works for me on my N9

Yes, it should start up automatically if you have enabled Light Manager > Advanced Settings > Start On Boot.
Are you using any task killer, battery saving app, cache clearing app or antivirus?

Yes, I've always had it 'Start on Boot' since w/ my N4. I'm not aware of it running any task killer/battery saving app, as it's still running stock.
Update: I tried restarting just now, the LM icon now shows up in notification window after some time. Might just have been some delay earlier. Thanks.
