Speaking of LTE I saw this article for 4G download speeds on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3GPP_Long_Term_Evolution
When it said 100Mbps I honestly puked in excitement then I started thinking why aren't the phones showing these fast of speeds?
Because the frequency band they are using currently...lte technology benefits exponentially on wider frequencies...fastest they can get on 5ghz is around 25mbps

Because a phone is a phone. If it does what it is supposed to do, why complain? We buy phones for what they do; whatever they'll be capable of later after updates is just a plus.
Bow chika wah wah
Why stick with Verizon? Because they're still by far the best nationwide carrier. Let's compare:
Sprint: Good satisfaction ratings, reliable network, lower prices. But their coverage isn't perfect, and they have a 4G network that's already outdated.
T-Mobile: Generally good satisfaction ratings, low prices. But like Sprint, their coverage is sub-par. Fake 4G (HSPA+) network, and doesn't even plan to develop a real 4G network for a few years. Likely will soon be part of AT&T.
AT&T: Terrible satisfaction ratings; the only carrier that's actually getting worse. Unreliable network. Has begun work on an actual 4G network (despite advertising HSPA+ as 4G like T-Mobile), but it's not active anywhere yet. Oh, and if you want to talk about mistreating Android: did you know that until just last month they didn't allow sideloading of apps?
Verizon: Has the widest-ranging, most reliable network. Tops consumer satisfaction ratings year after year (though Sprint is catching up). Has the fastest and most advanced (in both technology and deployment) 4G network, by far. And believe it or not, Verizon actually tends to be a bit more customer-friendly than other carriers. For example: they were the first to prorate early termination fees, and while they will eventually have capped data plans they've also said they'll roll out shared family data plans, something nobody else has talked about.
The consumer satisfaction ratings I'm citing, by the way, are Consumer Reports' -- you could probably find them via some Googling.

Why?
1 look at our options. Inferior screens across the board. Singlecored great phones for now, but what about next year. Overall design, few other phones are as sleek.
2 community development. Other than the nexus series or og droid, what other phone has been this great for customizing. Yes I know the driver issues are crap, but have you ever seen a bricked sgs without physical damage?
3 verizon for much of the country is the only choice. I'm not happy about it but there are simply no other options for some. If I found out tmo worked in my area I would drop verizon today.
4 and last, it seems manufactures are learning. samsung donating a sgs2 to the cyan team might just might indicate a reversal in previous ways of thinking.
If nothing else, it comes back to what other choice is there. Name any other option and there is a list of cons to go with it.

Wrong! We've hit 57mbps. Reason why it'll be slower speeds is because it will be "real world" with multiple users as apposed to 1 user testing the max speeds. Also they are going to cap the data throughput.
I just about talked myself into ordering a GSM/HSPA GNote. Knowing that AT&T's 4G LTE was coming, but was probably months if not a year or 2 away from my area (USA, NY/NJ).
But just very recently I'm reading that AT&T unofficially "flipped the switch on" for LTE in some areas of New York City. Unfortunately the GNote's 4G won't be able to utilize LTE.
Yeah, I know 4G/HSPA+ is still decently fast...But a big part of the reason for me going GNote in the first place is for getting the latest and greatest. And with a radio that ain't going to be compatible with something that's already starting to come out, man that's just killing me!
So now I either wait for a Verizon version to hit the US shores (I'd rather NOT go with them!) or look at "skimping" back down to a smaller screen with the GNexus.
The LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus only works on Verizon. Honestly, I'd stick with the Galaxy Note until actually using LTE doesn't murder your battery or put you over a data cap.

There has been no information released to today that specifically indicates the Note will have LTE when/if it does comes to ATT. It has been seen at the FCC with the normal assortment of bands, but the only thing different was NOT the inclusion of LTE, rather a change in the model number (they added B) this could indicate as well that they took the physical button away as they did with the SG2.
No one but Sammy and ATT can say for sure that if/when the Note comes to the US that it will sport ATT's LTE network.

Have you been able to use it yet? Anyway that you can get a pic of just the front screen, or something showing ATT logo?
in for pics, this is great news for me, buuuut....i really wish the front face was blank. the samsung logo is annoying enough
If AT&T gets an LTE Note it will be Qualcomm, if people thought it felt slow in the Skyrocket... a screen with the Note's resolution will not be fun. I say hold off on LTE until gen 2 chipsets are out.

I don't find the Skyrocket slow at all, much quicker than my brother's ATT GS2. Some of you just look for things to complain about.
Seeking. Did you ever find a time to get some pictures of that Samsung Note for AT&T? I am really looking forward to it coming to AT&T. My upgrade is due up shortly.
I believe that guy was lying, or got scared. He has removed both posts that he made in reference to the ATT version.
Since he disappeared and never showed a pic, here is another story confirming the Note is headed for AT&T with LTE and the Snapdragon processor, along with a picture of it with four soft buttons. However there's something taped to it, presumably covering up the AT&T logo.

The Note LTE won't be the latest and greatest, it may actually be worse than the IshitPhone 4S.
The snapdragon processor is the ONLY SoC that works in LTE phones.
The snapdragon is laggy, inconsistant, and just not a good chipset.
Plus AT&T throttles you if you use too much data too fast, so no thank you. Good luck getting dev support too. The butchered snapdragon LTE **** Note will not be able to use our ROMs or Kernels.
The Galaxy Note LT**** is a no go for me.

Whats the matter with you? **** this **** that. No need to speak like that here.
BTW have you tried LTE? I have, on a Skyrocket and it is incredible. I may trade my Note in to get the AT&T one with LTE. side by side tests put the SKY TEN TIMES faster than the Note, and for some weird reason 2x as fast in non LTE and even wifi. I suspect they have made other changes to the radio that make it faster than what we have in the Note (but I cant prove this).
The only reason I wouldnt is the 4 capacitive buttons. Not that I dont like those (stops dirt getting caught there) but on this device, one handed, its far easier to hit the central button than the power button.

Everyone created clever names for overrated and generally crappy phones. For example, your phone the "****rocket" or an iphone, the "I****".
On a phone you would never notice 30-50mb downstream speeds unless you are downloading a movie, etc.
The slight speed advantage you receive from LTE over the Note is cancelled out by the Snapdragon. It seems you ignored the main part of my post saying that the Snapdragon is a TERRIBLE SoC. On the ****rocket and the T-mo SGSII, UI lag is prevalent as well as laggy transitions, and unreliable game performance.
The quadrant scores on ANY app reveal the unsteadiness of the Snapdragon when compared to the OG At&t SGSII. Many people including myself have tried the Vivid and the ****rocket and have noticed visible lag when going thru day to day tasks. I went to my local corporate store and tried one on the release day, I asked the rep and he said the model was not defective and then I tried my buddy's ****rocket and it was just as laggy. He ended up buying my OG S2 from me.
Another thing that will stop me from buying any LTE phone besides the fact that they all have Snapdragon SoC's is the butchering done by At&t to ALL their devices but especially to LTE devices.
I owned an AT&T OG SGSII and we had a decent 10-12 well known developers with nice ROMs. Then I took a look at the Skyrocket forums a couple days ago and saw 1 well known dev and another dev asking for donations...
It will be the same with the LTE Note, except most likely worse. That is very unsettling especially since the LTE Note is most likely not shipping with ICS unless its release is in Q2 2012. Then all buyers will be stuck on Gingerbread till someone ports it.
But yup, have fun with those speeds, I doubt those internet speeds will help you much in day to day activites on your phone but okay... Have fun waiting a year for ICS!

Now adays, att and the term **** go hand and hand. Sooner or later att will replace that word in meaning. Att has been moving to an iphone only serve. Att has been dead last with the newest android and windows offerings. It seems that att only caters to iphone users and is limiting bandwith to cater to the may iphone users. Until apple releases a 4g lte version of the iphone, thier lte network is not a priority.
Can't wait. Only an LTE Nexus on AT&T could make think twice about the Note.

Exactly...
On my Note, when I hit 10gigs of data, I got throttled even though it was day 29 of my billing cycle.
But... On my Iphone I used like 20gigs a month and never got throttled.

Yes, sadly it would seem greed is universal.
Our job is to find a way around it.
That's disturbing, but the report suffers from its utter failure to quote customers expressing these concerns after actually using the device. I'm still surprised we haven't seen more reviews from actual Korean users.

Many many Samsung Galaxy ****rocket users have gone back to the OG SGSII because of the inconsistancy and lagginess of the Snapdragon.
I tried the ****rocket AND the Vivid and they are both not as fluenrt at the SGSII.
The same will be the case with the LTE Note. Not only tech experts notice the Snapdragon's shoddy performance, but day to day users do as well.
That's why it's a bad idea to buy any LTE devices until the technology is refined.

You may well be right, but here's a balanced video review from a very satisfied user of the Korean LTE Note. He acknowledges the benchmark scores for the Snapdragon are lower than the Exynos but insists he's noticed no lag:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eg5N...xt=C37f0d84ADOEgsToPDskJCqhTX3QBpAn2vXlpGm_Ll
The most reassuring thing is actually about the battery life, which he says is great despite the LTE. While I would prefer the Exynos/HSPA+ version, I'm still excited to check out the Qualcomm/LTE type.

When it comes down to things, it truly is all about opinion. It honestly depends on what you're going to use your device for. I have no LTE in my area and I don't see the point in crippling my Note for faster internet speeds.
The internet speed is nice, but I play games on my commute to work, type documents, etc. I need the Exynos' consistancy.
I'm sure some may not even notice the inconsitancy of the Snapdragon besides the laggy transitions, but when it comes down to things, LTE is not a good trade off for the loss of the Exynos (Arguably a better SoC than the Tegra chip sets).
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I have three days to return my Galaxy Nexus in exchange for an LTE Note, and I'm still incredibly conflicted. Yes, battery life with LTE is pretty ****ty (most Naver blogs say so), Snapdragon is slower and seems to be causing some stylus input issues, and LTE contracts are insanely expensive (~$90 for 10gb vs. ~$50 unlimited 3g). There is a LTE/3g toggle switch, so that helps to save battery life, but the kick in the nuts is that even if you switch over to 3g speeds, it eats at your LTE data allowance. To rub salt in the wound, the HSPA+ version isn't whitelisted here in Korea yet, so imports only get 2g service. There's a rumor that the HSPA+ version will hit in February, but that's only a very flimsy rumor at the moment.
But that screen is so damned tempting.
Even in the face of all those problems, I'm extremely tempted to return this Galaxy Nexus that I'm very happy with in exchange for a giant screen with stylus support. In the end, I'll probably end up keeping the Nexus, and then buy a used Note in six months. But who knows what silly decisions I might make in the next three days...

International GS2 and AT&T GS2 is essentially the same. I hope both of you are not confused about the internet speed to CPU speed. AT&T's 3G/4G network is significantly slower than LTE network.
Screw Exynos and Snapdragon. Gimme those Korean babes from that pic in the article.
Well here is my dilemma, hoping I can get some feedback from you guys.
I've had a concession account with Verizon for the past 3 years. I recently had to make the switch to a consumer account and am currently on the 2GB family share with 2 lines. I don't feel comfortable with just 2GB, but I really don't want to shell out for the additional 2GB. VZW only offered to cover the difference of the additional 2GB for a year, and I'd cover the 2nd and I'm not really down for that either....which leads me to sprint.
They look to offer the best bang for my buck, even going as far as paying $100 per line to switch which is pretty nice. I almost pulled the trigger on this until the Rep explained that sprint has no 4G!?!? I was shocked by this because I was under the impression they were one of the first to have it.
So to my question. To those of you that currently have a S4 with sprint, in general, how are the speeds on their current network? Verizon's S3 is the only 4G device I've owned and I was blown away by the difference in speed when coming to the S3. Will I notice a huge slow down? Will I notice anything at all?
As always, any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!

It varies between cities but yes sprint does have 4G, in my city its not that good but yes I see 4G a lot, best thing you could do is find some local with sprint and a 4G lte phone and tell em to let you test the internet speed, I'd say Radioshack is a good spot for that since the manager there most times carries the latest phones with him at least in my local radioshack lol

Thanks!

Sprint has 4G in certain markets in the form of WiMax & LTE. Obviously the S4 on Sprint is LTE. 3G speeds on Sprint are terrible (typically 1mbps or slower downstream) and LTE varies depending on the area. I will get 20+ mbps in some areas and others less than 10.
Sprint is considered by most to have the slowest network of any of the USA "big 4" carriers. Check the coverage map for your area to see what options you have. If there is no LTE in your area yet than it will be slow.

It all depends on your city, and your phone. When I had the iPhone, I rarely got 4G and mainly stayed on 3G. It wasn't awful, and it got what I needed done with quick loading times. (Facebook, twitter, etc), but I also had super weak signal with it. When I got the S4, I've been getting full bars of 4G and have not been falling back to 3G and it's FAST. Videos load up quick, everything is almost instant. I also live in KC and Sprint has had longer to rollout 4G in my area.

If there's no 4g in your area, then yea, you'll see a huge difference. I on average pull down about .33mbs, which is horrible. I too was on Verizon, but switched to sprint cuz I couldn't wait for the s4 to come out

Yeah, my impatience is partly to blame for wanting to switch as well, but I really can't see me going from blazing 4G on Verizon to watching youtube videos buffer.

Yea I'd Def just hold out a little bit longer for Verizon. Their 4g network is the best, and I'm having a really hard time dealing with this 3g. This is the highest 3g speed I've had so far...

My sprint 3g is faster than my home dsl. 4g here is pretty good, too. I'm in Dallas.

I now realize how better verizon is. I currently have a iPhone 5 on verizon and this GaLaXy S4 on sprint. And every time I do a speed test. The iPhone kicks ass. Averaging 7-15mbp. And on good days 20-27mbp. While sprint I'm rarely in 4G and if I was I would get the highest one time was 7mbp

Sprint was one of the first to have 4g but that was 4g wimax which is dying off and not being deployed anymore. Sprint hasn't sold a wimax device in quite a while, everything is LTE now. Which Sprint is currently rolling out nationwide.

I believe Sprint does still sell at least one WiMax device... The SGS2.

Checking the coverage map may not tell the whole story. I am getting LTE all over Minneapolis and suburbs. I even get it in a lot of rural areas. The map shows nothing, they haven't updated it at all.

These are not typical 3g speeds. I have seen 1.5 down and .8 up in most markets I have visited recently.

Well after checking out all of the plans from the big 4, I am looking at a difference of $120/yr for my setup.
The way I've come to see it is I spend much more on A LOT of other much less important things. In the grand scheme of things paying a premium is also going to get me a much more reliable and faster network, if nothing else peace of mind. Although I still find it ridiculous what consumers are charged for data.

Here is what you have to realize with the current LTE roll out...
Some areas have 4G LTE coverage but its not officially on yet... It is in a "Test Phase". It is typically on about 25%-50% of normal levels. That is for both SPEED and RANGE. If you are seeing any speeds below 10mbs then it is most likely in the test phase. Most test phase towers have a 4g range of about 3-4 miles. This is also at about 25%-50% range. Towers that are at official and running at normal operation levels are seeing over 20mbs up to 40mbs and ranges over 7-8 miles.
Here in Michigan I know of a dozen or so "test" towers and they are all operating at that speed and coverage range. I usually see anywhere from 8mb to 17 on these towers in mid day. Night time is much higher.
The few full speed towers I have been connected to have had speeds over 30mbs and ranges of much further than I expected.
This is supposedly the way its happening all across the country according to the Network Admin I've talked to in Kansas.
In my area (Memphis) sprint is excruciatingly slow. On 3g I get maybe 300k/s, on 4g I get maybe 2m/s.
Moving to San Antonio soon. If it isn't faster there in going to have to switch back to AT&T or Verizon.

This is hardly accurate. It depends on the tower, traffic in a area etc. There are different types of towers and equipment being used in areas. I'm assuming you aren't a radio technician. This is somewhat true and accurate but those speeds probably won't be unfortunately. More like 5mb-15mb down on average. 20mb down would be awesome. But it is impossible to say for sure, there is way to many variables.

I have no clue about the variability of speeds from test phase towers to full speed ones or any of that. Or the range of them or the truth to what the other guy said..
But I can tell you that I consistently get 30mbps and even higher in San Francisco on 4g. And in some of the other networks I've been have the same - if you look at the 4g speed test thread you'll see that people are getting 25-35 in some areas.

Wife and I got a Note 3 each. Mines on T mob and hers is on ATT networks. She consistently get more signal strength than I do. Both units are on ATT. Apps show mine as approx -111 db and hers as -107db . Signal strength bars wise, she has two and I have one or zero mostly, and thats outside!

I can't help you, sorry, but I have been following your posts for several days so I am subscribing to see what you are able to find out. Good luck buddy!
This is one of the main things that concerns me about running t mobile version on ATT. It may technically work, but is it optimized for their network? I would like the fully unlocked bootloader, but not at the expense of phone funtionality.
And to that end, does visual voicemail work with the T Mobile phone? Just curious.

You mention the word "optimized" in vocabulary this means nothing until now. So perhaps, you have a point. We shall see. Generally speaking I go by whatis on the "box" if frequency is the same and then some then its good to go. I guess we shall see....:good:

Please do. I don't mind sacrificing my self for the majority LOL. Too many variables as my unit maybe within certain tolerences of Sam"soog". Hence why I posted here.
You might wanna do a more proper test than just "Outside"
I'm talking both phones in the exact same spot.
This should be expected, until maybe both phones using the same exact modem. At that point the comparison should be closer but even if you had purchased 2 att n3 and 1 was made from date xx/xx/xx and 2 xx/xx/xx the results might still vary.
Also the csc stuff that happens on first boot seems to be relevant for data speed.. don't give up your hopes yet

I have had similar experience to the OP in the pass with an HTC HD2 and that was the last time I bought a Tmobile phone to use on AT&T. AT the time what I experienced was AT&T given data priority to their own phones vs. imported or other network phones. According to the 3rd level tech I spoke with during my issues, If you bring a non-AT&T IMEI on their network, they will give it the lowest priority on their network. The device will work but it won't work as good as the AT&T device. The device show up on your account as a unknown phone. It was true back then I am not sure if it is true now. But given the circumstances with the lock bootloader, I would not surprise if AT&T was up to the same old trick but using the different technology or methods.
Keep in mind AT&T has nothing to lose by making sure their phones perform much better on their network. The Note 3 just hit market and the truth will come out soon or later. At this point I am going to stick with AT&T Note 3 and wait for the dust to settle a bit.

Ran same more amateur radio testing side by side with wife's note 3. This time it was in the bedroom. LOL. Her db figures were higher slightly but showed two bars where as mine showed one bar.
I'm thinking the AT&T phone is set to display signal better.

you are correct. the at&t displays a better signal when in reality, the differences between the two versions are insignificant.
I remember comparing the htc one developer edition to the at&t htc one and observing similar conclusions.
You are definitely right about priority on the network. That is still true today.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 5
By priority, I presume you guys mean when there is congestion?
With all those who are running T-Mo on ATT, I presume this would become prevalent during peak times or heavy congestion?
I think a good test would be a side-by-side ATT/T-Mo during peak hours to see if the ATT gets faster data...
At the same time, the SIM is an ATT SIM, which is an ATT account. I just wonder how the switch makes the decisions if in fact it prioritizes: Is it based on hardware IMEI or foreign accounts (roaming)?
I'm not sure how it's prioritized. But it would be in times of congestion. I can't explain how he gets less service than his wife.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 5
Lets not forget that AT&T fakes signal as well. Its been known when you run an AT&T ROM over a 3rd party ROM. Just some food for thought.
It may fake the bars but it can't fake the dB. That's the issue with the OP.

If that is still the case then I will need a much better case to go out and buy other network phones to use on AT&T's network. My experience was pretty bad with the HTC HD2 during that time.

I believe one of the triggers was the IMEI because AT&T already have database of all the AT&T IMEI. When your IMEI does not match on their database, they normally don't know what kind of device you have. Essentially the network look at you as a step child and put you in the not an AT&T device bucket. I would presume if would definitely take effect during peak congestion time but I think it also play a role in other scenarios too. Again I am speculating on these scenarios but I recall my experience was not good. This was around the time where we did not have any LTE available. Either way, time will tell how they foreign devices with LTE on their network.
