Can anyone get s voice to work? It perfectly recognizes what I am saying but doesnt respond, even the open commands. It just comes back with say hi galaxy to wake me up.
I tried to use it a few times but no real success. Disabled the double button press on the home button until they get it working. I can search the web on my own.

It sort of works for me, but it's not perfect on recognizing my voice. I said "Tell me a joke", it picked up "Tell me agenda"

I texted once using S-Voice last night, but it didn't get my message right. Today, it transcribes what I say, but then ignores it and brings up the say Hi Galaxy bit.
that is what it does to me also. I wonder why?

I was trying out my BT headset and opened the mike up and there was SVoice... After a number of I agree to docs, I asked for the weather, navigation, the population of a few cities, and it seems to work well. However, it kept my mike open all the time waiting for me to say Hi Galaxy, that's bad. It also stopped speaking and I do know where its mute button is.

Clear S-Voice
Ran into this same problem with S Voice. It wasn't responding at all and started giving me the silent treatment (like my wife who said I was talking to the phone more than her).
Here's what did the trick to get the phone working again, hope this helps someone:
Go to Settings > Application Manager > All.
Scroll down to S Voice then select it and press the Clear Data.

Wow it worked, thanks!
While it is not that accurate, S Voice works well for setting alarms, tasks/reminders, and "record voice" memos...
How does the SVoice compare to SpeakToIt? Can it pass the woodchuck test?

The voice dialer in the Android platform is so incredibly flawed yet it doesn't seem as if they notice/care. This issue needs to be starred by more people for it to become something they will look at IMO.
Why should a voice dialer require user input? Isn't the point of a voice dialer such that you can use it by simply pressing the button on your BT headset and instructing the application to choose for you?
Thanks for your time.
Bump. Please support. This issue needs to be resolved!
Isn't this function available in Donut??
What feature? Voice search? Yes, but it requires an internet connection to work. So for those of us that don't have a data plan, it's worthless. Also, the button on a BT headset will activate the voice dialer, not voice search so we still have the same issue.
BUMPED. Honestly, why is it so hard just to open the link and star the issue?
Going to keep on bumping this no matter how long it takes for people to help.
Looks like this is working a little. Got 6 more stars over the weekend! C'mon people, it's just TWO clicks!

Because I didn't have a PR man in charge like I do now, Bruce.
Ricky i completely agree with you but I starred that defect a day or two after I got my phone and tried the flawed voice dialing system.
I have never in my life known a person who actually uses a Voice Dialer. As far as I'm concerned they can remove it from the OS entirely, I'd rather that Google devotes their resources to something useful.

You happen to be one of the lucky ones who DOESN'T live in an area where headsets are required by law while driving. If a cop so much as sees a phone in my hand, I can get a $300 ticket.
For us, it's absolutely imperative. I can't really explain to a cop that Android requires me to input my selection when using the Voice Dialer.
So please, for us unlucky people, give us 30 seconds of your time and star the issue.
Thank you
Bump bump bump bump
This would be so much easier if a mod just made this a sticky...
Getting more and more support every day! Thanks guys
Its an app I never used, and probly never will, but ill star it cause I'm a nice guy.
i have no problems with this on donut? If i use google voice search it is perfect gets exactly what i ask for, Also the voice dial works fine? Are you shouting at the phone?

So you guys do not have to click something on the phone when using the voice dialer? We are not saying that the voice recognition does work we are saying that it is not completely hands free.
Here's a Quote from the defect that accurately describes the problem.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1181 said:
Requiring the user to tap on the phone to confirm the function of the voice
dialer reduces the desired functionality. For example, if when wearing a
hands-free device while driving, one tries to access voicemail, the
following process is required:
1. Unlock handset.
2. Access the voice dialer via handset.
3. Visual prompt for using voice dialer
4. Speak "Call voicemail."
5. Visual prompt: "Call voicemail, call voicemail mobile"
6. Select voicemail option
7. Dials voicemail.
In an ideal voice dialer, the process might look something like this:
1. Unlock not required.
2. Access the voice dialer via handsfree device (e.g., long press on
headset "answer button")
3. Aural prompt: "Say a command."
4. Speak "Call Voicemail"
5. Aural prompt "Would you like to call voicemail?"
6. Speak "Yes/No"
7. Aural prompt "dialing voicemail"

Ok guys i got the voice search working. So when you click search button the mic comes up and you search.
This is how.
Go to settings, applications and click allow third party applications to install.
Link the phone via htc sync to your pc.
Go to this link and download the file and open the rar, click , install onto phone.
nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/04/add-voice-search-to-htc-phones
(insert http before)
Happy searching
p.s. this is not my own work, just passing on the information
This is the original thread that found the above app:
http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/60120-do-you-have-quick-search-mic.html
The original location of the app:
http://code.google.com/p/voicesearch/
So you can monitor if there is an update.
I have tested this on my HTC Desire and it works fine, no error, no quirks, no FC, just works.
Why on Earth was this removed? Works (so far) flawlessly on my unbranded / unlocked Desire. Cheers.
Fantastic app, of course I searched for various 'rude' words (not the obvious ones that are no doubt blocked) and the first links in each case went to Urban Dictionary
Tried some sensible searches and EVERY single one worked as expected - very impressed, well done Google!
Now why on earth is this not a standard app.....
Am I missing something lol? its been on mine from the start lol

Mine was there on the Orange branded ROM, but since disappeared after flashing to generic. They must've done this themselves as part of their 'branding' process - something actually worth doing for once! Well done Orange!
oddness: *only* google search
I got a Desire on T-mob today, and I've been playing to add this.
I've got the voice search enabled, and I've added the new keyboard with a mic button on it - all well so far. However, if I do a search, and press the mic I get the "Speak Now" dialogue, and it says "Google Search". So I can do a Google search fine, but I can't for example ring someone in my phone book. I can google them, but that's not quite the same!
Can anyone help?

phil, could you post what you did to enable voice search, just in case I've done something differently? "call joe bloggs" doesn't do it for me, it just does a google search for the term...!
Sorry i took a while to reply, This is what i did to install the voice search.
1) Go to settings > applications > click allow third party applications to install.
2) Go to >
http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/04/add-voice-search-to-htc-phones/
3) Download for the htc desire.
4) Plug your desire into a usb port on your pc.
5) Click htc sync ( Make sure it up and running on your pc too)
6) Open the file you downloaded in step 3.
7) Follow the instructions. Click next once (i think) then it will promt on your phone, press install.
8) Click the search button on your desire (bottom left hard button, little magnifieing glass)
9) A little microphone should appear, click that to voice search.
All done,
Few hints >
Long press the button to go straight to voice search.
To call someone, you have to say > call "persons name"
Saying something normally will google search that.
PM me if you need more help.
As i said, i wasn't the one who made this file or anything, just happened to be
one of the first to get the device and get this working.
As we all know Gingerbread has been in the oven... And I was one of those people who could not wait for it to cool off. As soon as I saw the leak early saturday morning, I was already downloading. what could go wrong, right? I odin'd the ef02.tar, started her up and wow, she's beautiful, save the extra ugly 4g symbol in the window sill (notification bar) that looks even worse now than previous desserts.
Keep in mind this is a stock .tar. No root. No cwm. No nothing. Except bloat. Low and behold my beautiful lil girl had a very serious functionality flaw. After my first reboot, no more incoming phone calls :^(...
So I've tried everything, I gained root, installed cwm 3.1.0.1 wiped data, cache, dalvik multiple times. Re odin'd the .tar. Flashed Decad3nce's odexed and deodexed roms. Updated modems. Tried frozen on ec05, took a shot at simply AOSP, odin'd a stock ec05, even went all the way back to eb13, with cwm 2.5 (changing file systems when needed) now I'm back to a bone stock ec05 from the stickies in development... Still no incoming phone calls. I called sprint technical and they were unable to resolve the issue.
Funny thing is I can make calls, I have data (3&4g), I can text, just won't receive.
Has anybody else seen anything remotely close to this. If so please comment, if not, comment anyways. I wanna get some opinions on my situation.
P.S. feel free to laugh at my short comings, lord knows just thinking about it brings chuckles to my mind...

You know, i did install google voice. But ive installed it multiple times until now, so i figured it was unrelated. But this past time it did take my texts through there, which had never happened before. thats why i uninstalled it. Im gonna check that out and see if it fixes it. Good luck with your issues.
Sounds like you clicked yes to Sprint integration (ports your number temporarily to google). So they go to your google voice account, however you can check an option to have them sent also to your phone as well (although if you do this with google voice installed you will probably get 2 notifications per 1 sms). Also call screening is an option that is enabled by default, option in google voice (desktop web interface). I had to turn that off too (the press 1 thing). Hope this helps, its just options. Also you could go online and disable the integration and go back to normal.
EDIT: Also make sure your phone is listed to receive calls in the web interface (via a desktop). I know it should do this by default but maybe it didn't for god knows what reason?

I do not have "talk back", or "sound back" installed on my phone. And i've fixed permission and verified all of the settings under the SMS app and "voice input/output" in the main menu....
any other ideas.

1) What SMS app are you using?
2) Don't tell your friends about this problem or you are certain to get 100 ill timed text messages that say things like "I love gay porn!" and "Man, it sure is roomy in these pants!"
Off hand my first guess is to completely uninstall the SMS app, make sure all the directories that save settings are deleted too, and reinstall. That's the first thing I'd do. If that doesn't work....I dunno....call a priest for an exorcism?

nope. The only thing i can think of is i installed that new cluzee app, the Siri knockoff.
Edit :
I think i may of found the problem. There is a "cluzee reader" setting that is on by default. I turned it off, i'll see what happens.
Doing a fresh ROM install or even reverting back to a working save are guaranteed fixes. I figured you'd rather not have to reset everything though.
I'd bet the cluzee setting you found fixes it though.
agg! this started happening to me yesterday... i did recently install cluzee and llama, but last i looked the "reader" was set to "off" in cluzee.... and none of my "accessability" things are trned on..... i see that unsder <settings><voice input and output> under output that pico TTS is installed but "always use my settings" box is unchecked.... really annoying at work when i get a text.... thank goodness it wasnt a personal message or what not... aside from reloading everything - is there any other settign i should check. im useing the factory "messaging" app on my MTS4G...

no, from what i read the scheduler is an option if you only want it on between certain hours, it should
work simply by turning it on. it says it's enabled in the pull down notification menu and there is a ∅
in the upper left corner but it still rings ?
Edit : i turned on the scheduler and it still rings. . . . . . .WTF ?
i'm beginning to think this Note 7 is a POS, so far i'm having bluetooth issues, do not disturb doesn't work,
and smart switch gives an error when trying to back up files. my Note 4 worked(s) perfectly and had zero
issues !
Do Not Disturb works for me. Are you sure that you didn't setup an "exception" to allow your phone to still ring? I just tried it and no phone call came through. The only exception I have setup is for an Alarm to sound.
Once you turn on DND, then tap on the "Do Not Disturb" wording. In this section is where you can setup exceptions or clear them out if something is setup that you did not want. Specifically check out the "Allow exceptions" section.
