Seriously 23 views and not one piece of info????????????? are you serious......I NEED HELP...........
That means you are using perfected SPL. Just because fastboot devices returns the serial, it doesn't mean you can flash images using adb.
You will need to have engineering SPL to be able to flash images (recovery, radio, etc) through ADB.
No one probably replied because if you had searched for fastboot Remote: Not Allowed in google, you would have found the answer already.

If you needed help so bad you should have posted it in the correct thread.
Moved to General.
Guess what DEVELOPMENT means? Seriously, take a look in the thread at most of the other posts. I take a look and I see "SPL Collection", "Radio Switcher", "Sapphire Hacking", "Rom Bible", and then "HELP! Gmail Setup NO DATA"
One of these things are not like the others.
I'm moving it to the appropriate thread but next time I'll close it without warning.

Your not DEVELOPING anything by rooting your myTouch, your merely modifying something that already exists within the phone.
When it comes to anything dealing with technology, developing something means that you are either creating something completely new, or you are taking a process/application/media medium that already exists and improving it. In lame man's terms, your either creating an all new application/ROM/way of rooting (in our case) or you are taking a currently created ROM and improving on it in order for it to run properly on different devices (such as porting a ROM created to run on the Droid X so that it will work on the myTouch 3G). This could also include creating new kernal's for devices to be able to be properly overclocked, be compatible with newer ROM versions, etc.
But, I do understand where you come from. Sometimes it is just human nature for a person to become defensive in the presence of ignorance. A word of advice though, being disrespectful towards a forum admin is not the way to go about getting help.
Would also like to add that if you look under the General Discussion header you'll see that it says "Discussion about the T-Mobile myTouch 3G, HTC Magic (general Q&A, tips & tricks)".

I wasn't necessarily bashing you, nor was Binary. I'm a mod myself for a gaming clan that I'm a part of and I just understand where Binary is coming from. Think about the fact that you have thousands of people trolling these forums and when 70% of them don't post things in the proper place or post a question that was answered two threads from the top, it gets very redundant having to "help" them out by pointing them in the right direction all the time. If people would merely take that extra second to search or read an extra sentence it would make everything so much easier. Yes, Binarys response may have sounded slightly sarcastic, but when I've seen the guy have to move 20-30 threads and tell people to search for their problem because the answer was in a thread two days old, then I can't blame him. People really need to try and look at both sides of a situation before flaming. Its understandable that your frustrated, but again, flaming at anyone on these, or any other, forums is not the way to generate positive responses.
Now, as for you problem, how exactly did you go about downgrading to 1.5? Do you have the MT3G with the 3.5mm jack? You not going to be able to run anything through ADB until you can actually get into the phone and enable USB debugging (unless you can get into recovery), in the meantime, your going to have to run everything through fastboot. Next, that recovery image your using is kind of old, you might want to try Amon Ra 1.7.0. Along with your answers, post your current fastboot information (turn the phone off and power on by holding back+power). When the screen with three skateboarding Androids comes up, write that information into here.

No I understand completely. I agree with you 100%. I was a noob for years in fact. Believe it or not even I still have issues. I just posted one in the G1 Q&A a few days ago and it still hasn't had any responses so I know how you feel. Yet I also know what it takes to get flammed and how to avoid it. No one here is flamming or bashing you and I apologize if it seemed that way but sometimes you need to make light of a heavy situation if you get my meaning. You're thread will likely get hundreds of views... and not just from members. And I move around an average of 20 to 50 posts per day! So yeah... I move more posts than you even read! So while you're trying to imagine that just think about how many I would have to move, edit, delete and close if I didn't come off strict towards everyone. I'm not a jerk like I come off to be... I'm actually very lenient but I can't ban someone today for breaking a rule today and give someone a second chance tomorrow for breaking the same rule. In the same way I can't just move a thread without an explaination either because it causes confusion. So how am I supposed to appear strict, enforce and be fair all at once? Ask your parents! LOL! Just think of me as this forums father. I'll ground you for breaking a rule or I'll help you fix your bike if I can. See my meaning? By the way... forum wise... I'm a single father (only moderator) of three children named Wing (the Oldest and most mature... little maintenance, Tilt... middle child, and my youngest Sapphire. Sapphire is a handful because she is growing so fast and she (as in the members) doesn't quite knows what she's doing yet.
Sorry but that's the best metaphor that I can come up with for now.

*Disclaimer -- I just wanted to post this as an information source as people are just now starting to get their North American SGS III's and are eagerly awaiting ROOT and custom ROM access.
UPDATE as of 7/18/2012 -- Chainfire just posted a new version of Triangle Away that appears to work for the US/Canadian SGSIII variants.
Thanks to The Root for calling attention to it and directing folks to Chainfire's Twitter for quick testing (he's leaving for a month holiday) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781104
And pop over to Chainfire's thread to grab version 1.70 (or get the donation version on Play if you want to show him some love) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
With that said, if you are new to the latest line of Samsung Android devices, you should be aware that the latest devices have a Custom Binary Flash Counter built in.
What does that mean?
Well, for reasons still yet unknown, Samsung has built in code that will essentially track every time a user flashes certain unsigned pieces of code to their phone, including but not limited to recovery and kernels.
The general thinking is that Samsung and/or the carrier could take one look at this counter and refuse warranty service since modifying the phone is technically against the TOS. This is the risk.
Why is this important?
Many times the first (and most easily found) ROOT and CWM recovery solutions (if you don't know what CWM is, I highly suggest doing some reading up on this, as it's one of the basics of Sammy SGS ROM flashing) will trigger this counter. And once it's tripped -- it's not exactly easy on some devices to reset this counter.
How do I tell if the counter has been tripped?
It can manifest itself in many ways. For example on the SGS II, there would be a yellow caution sign with a triangle that would show up every time the phone would boot (hence the origin of the name Triangle Away which I mention below). On other devices, you see a counter when going into Download Mode. For example on the Galaxy Tab 2, in download mode there is a screen that mentions if a Custom Binary is loaded and a numbered counter of how many times a non-standard code has been flashed.
But what about Chainfire's Triangle Away and USB Jigs?
First, the USB Jig is an important tool to have since it allows folks to get into Download Mode without using a PC. Early on, users discovered on early versions of the SGS II, the USB Jig also reset the binary counter. However, in newer released bootloaders on the SGS II, as well as newer devices like the Galaxy Note, Tab 2, and SGS III -- Jigs don't reset the counter.
As for Triangle Away -- EDIT (7.18.2012) -- Version 1.70 is now compatible with the US & Canadian versions of the SGS III. Go show Chainfire (the dev) some love!
So what's the solution?
Now there are 2 choices (as of 7/18):
(A) EDIT -- thanks to MrRobinson there is now an way of rooting and adding CWM to the i747 w/o tripping the counter - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
(if devs from the other carriers ask MrRobinson nicely, I'm sure he'd be happy to share what he did to get the root injected since it took a bit of tweaking. The CWM part should be universal);
(B) Or if you have already tripped the counter, as mentioned above, grab version 1.70 of Chainfire's Triangle Away - it now works on the US & Canadian versions.
EDIT: 6/22 - Changed the title to better reflect the post contents.
EDIT: 6/26 - Added appropriate [tag] due to forum combination.
EDIT: 6/28 - New Root w/o tripping counter for i747 linked
EDIT: 7/18 - Chainfire upped Triangle Away v1.70 that resets the counter.
OH NO!!!
Just kidding, most people on this forum really don't care, I'm sure it will be okay, the flash counter isn't the end of the world or even worthy of a long disclaimer from anyone but Samsung themselves.... What's a warranty, anyways? I have SquareTrade on all my previous devices and will try ZAGGshield on the SIII, they're both going to fix anything that happens to it if we're stupid enough not to follow directions by more than qualified devs!

Hahah, my last phone (SGS II) was the first phone that I haven't had to warranty through AT&T (switched out my Cappy 3x, WinMo phones before at least once or twice each) and I'm actually very careful with my phones.
Just like the options -- but you're right, a lot of people will just dive in and go crazy and say hell with it.
I'm on my 3rd Captivate as well, all covered under warranty. I'll be somewhat worried about keeping my SGS3 warranty-able when I get it here in a week or 2.
Definitely useful information, until the dev's get things sorted out and proper hacks in place.

This is going to be a very popular device, so I'm sure it won't be long before we get some talented devs over and this whole issue will become obsolete. They'll figure it out, it'll just take a little time! :good:
Or if you need to replace for warranty, kill the phone completely... like lamp cord to USB port adapter.

Reminds me of the old "lighting storm" trick if you have ever put an old CD in a microwave!
I'm sure 1-2 seconds is more than enough. Most microwaves are 900 Watts + so don't need very much time. Also don't include the battery when you microwave it.

1. This is not close to being development so wrong section
2. Posting once is enough no need to spoonfeed noobs and post it in every thread
3. If they are concerned with warranty they should not be on xda.
Please just calm your horse and post this once in the correct section... Because it seems like u just want people to praise u as a zomg u saved my warranty I love you... Or ur just fishing for thanks or both.

Wrong section or not, thank you for posting this. I am not an android noob but I am a Samsung noob.
Thanks have been given.

Thanks for the post! I don't know if this is the wrong section or not, but I do appreciate the brief explanation before deciding when to proceed with root. I am not new to Android, but this will be my first Samsung device. Rooting the HTC Desire and Incredible S didn't have considerations such as a flash counter to consider. Hopefully, I'll catch on to the lingo with Samsung rooting when the time comes to give it a try.
I think it fits just fine where it is as I don't usually go to the Q&A or General Discussions (thats what the search function is for). I am not noob to samsung, or galaxy, or android. The dev section is one of the first places I look when checking on any device new or old. I don't even have my phone yet, don't plan on rom'ing for a while but its good to know that a simple root may become an issue. I appreciate the time you took to get this info out there. That's just my ways though.
No worries guys. That was my original intention putting this thread in this particular area.
If one of the forum mods thinks it's better placed in another area they will let me know or move it accordingly. As long as it helps someone it's all good.
With root accomplished on the US variants things are going to get interesting but folks just gotta make sure they research before doing anything. There's already a kernel thread in the Sprint development side that was shut down because unfortunately the kernel hard bricked some phones (I think including the Op's) so one can't be too careful!

Thanks for the nice explanation, this is my first Samsung phone so I had no clue. Looks like I may hold off on rooting until a fix for this gets found, never know when you may need to make a warranty claim.
Well this has no links to a Rom, mod or kernel. Which means it's going to general.
don't want to use s custom Rom right now.I only want to root my phone to remove bloatware. Will simply rooting the phone give me the yellow triangle? I want to be able to return the phone to stock if need be.

Thank you for your response. Your post was for your single post not the entire thread.
Secondly, I have rooted a phone in the past (my S2) so I understand the process and what can happen if not done correctly. My apologies if I have submitted a question that had already been asked. I'm on my phone now and not using a forum app. I have attempted multiple times to search but my browser keeps refreshing sending me in circles. I am new to the S4 and just wanted to know if rooting the phone causes the phone to display the yellow triangle on boot up. Perhaps I should wait until morning when I can view the forum on a computer. Thank you.

The phone app does suck. Rooting your phone, if the correct method for your firmware version is used, should not display a yellow triangle on boot. However, it might display "custom" with a padlock symbol. There is just entirely way too much information about this to post here, but if you want to search for "sysscope" when you get to your PC or do a visual search for threads that ask about "custom" or "official" in the thread title, you should find a lot of information about it. Mostly, check the General and Q & A sections for this information. There is also a lot of information about it in the thread I linked you to.
I know it was a single post I linked you to because it explains the correct way to go about finding information. As the post suggests, you need to learn as much about what you are doing as possible before you do anything to your phone. It does not matter what your previous experience was because this is a different phone and asking the question you asked shows that you need to learn more about it. The correct way to learn this information is by following what I said in the post I linked to you. This information should not be obtained from asking questions...it should be obtained by reading the available information that has already been posted in the forum(s). Good luck.
You are correct about learning as much as you can. That is partially why I asked the question. I have never been the type of individual to do anything (purchase new things, take a trip etc) without learning as much as I can before I take the plunge. Thank you for sending me in the right direction.

As an aside, some individuals (like myself) aren't good with inputting the proper search terms when trying to find information. Instead they come across a lot of misinformation which can be just as bad as not doing the proper research.

I Rooted my phone and now it won't update, it usually said connecting to server checking for updates you have the latest updates etc or I could download them. I install OTA Root protector but I have uninstalled that and still no joy Model number:GT-i9300 Android version 4.1.2 any help would be greatly appreciated, I am completly new to smart phones and clockwork recovery mode was not installed when I rooted could that be the problem? Now when I go to about device>software update>update it doesn't say connecting to server it just says checking for updates and the little wheel can spin all day without anything happening.
Thank you in advance
This is a consequence of rooting.. when you root the stock Rom, an indicator (visible under settings>phone info>status) shows you're running a modified system and this doesn't allow you to update. However, if you undo and you unroot your phone, you'll be able to receive ota updates, or you can temporarily reset this indicator using triangle away

Now when I go to about device>software update>update it doesn't say connecting to server it just says checking for updates and the little wheel can spin all day without anything happening.
Thank you in advance

Not a very helpful site at all would be as well just to Google everything which brings about the question why have a forum on it if members can't tell you what to do that is the whole point of any Forum. And the capicha everytime you have to reply is just totally uncalled for.

Well its very very simple its you asking the question once and failing to bother reading the faqs and guides its thousand with multiple same posts daily .
You and many others are just not interested so why should forum members help you .
This is XDA Developers forum not a fix my phone that i carelessly broke service centre .
Get it a developers forum for developers run by developers if you don't want to learn the basics its pointless being a member as we don't do spoon-feeding .
Please read the rules before posting .

When you take you're car to a garage and don't know what is wrong with it does the mechanic give you books to read on every aspect of the car before he fixes it. No he doesn't because he has the knowledge of how to fix it and if you read everything about the car you wouldn't need the garage get it.

Facts a garage charges you for the work the mechanic does the work .
This is a developers forum we do not fix your phone but we do have the basic faqs and guides free for you to read .
You are only to willing to whine and moan but to lazy to read the faqs and guides .
Suggest you try another forum as you totally do not understand what XDA is and think it exists to fix phones .
Goodbye .
my phone is rooted and my status says normal. not that i would want to take an ota because like kies I am sure it would unroot my phone. but if there were an ota wouldn't I be able to download and install it without having to use kies? I ALWAYS JUST ASSUMED THAT WAS AN OPTION. stock system+stock kernel+stock recovery. flash counter at 0. nothing custom or modified in system status or download mode.

Send me your phone and I will give you an estimate on the cost of fixing it. Estimate cost $30 average repair cost $100 :silly:
If you want to do it yourself then you better start understanding how to do it
Why would someone write again the same information that others have been pointing you, too. By all means google your question, chances are you will find it has been answered (on this forum).

The problem is your car is working as expected. This thread is similar to "Every time I move this column stick on the steering column down, a light starts flashing on the outside of my car". To which the mechanic would probably refer you to the user manual.
We're pretty much doing the same thing. Not knowing that you cannot accept OTA updates once rooted is basic root knowledge. I spent a long time putting a thread together that gives you ALL this basic knowledge that you already should have.
As already stated, this is a developers forum, not a help forum. There is an expectation that you read the basic guides and FAQ's before asking questions, in particular questions like this that are non-development related. XDA members take the time to put these guides and FAQ's together for people who do ask for help for non-development things. This forum is not here to spoon feed you the answers. It is here to help you learn the answers and that's what the guides and FAQ's are for. If you are not interested in learning, understanding or fixing things yourself, this is not the forum for you. Try android forums.
Otherwise, as per my first post in this thread, read "understanding the basics before rooting"

This^^,
On that note, thread closed.
Please understand, this is not aimed at all mode here... Just a couple that are taking the fun out it, or are just bored. You have the power, and most often are right! But I am seeing a few over using their powers here.
I see the Verizon note 4 forums dying very quickly. Someone starts a thread about getting a new Note 4 and it gets locked because it's irrelevant..? I see someone start a thread about sprint getting lollipop, showing its coming, and it gets locked because there is a dead lollipop thread from 2 months ago that already has mentioned. But the mod is wrong... The newest lollipop thread is about sprint getting it first in the states and obviously trying to get the Vzw Note forums going again. No harm in that at all.
I am seeing these type of actions a lot in this forum by mods.
Instead the mods allow threads that state goodbye Note 4 hello Nexus 6 and others that are negative and useful to this forum.
Give it to me guys. I bet this thread gets locked and deleted immediately. I am sorry for this, I'm just upset at the over moderating...
closing as this is a duplicate of this rad thread:
