Good-Bye Hero hello GS3 - Hero CDMA General

These past 2 years with this phone and on this forum were great. This old hero was like a tank anything I through at it never stopped it just ket on going. I wanted to thank all the people who created all thes great roms and also the people who helped maintain my phone for the past two years. This is a great community and hopefully some of you are going to the Galaxy S3 too.

Sad to see you leave. You should do I what i did and keep my hero lol. I can't say a fair well. Although my evo shift is nice, there are still Roma on here that aren't on my evo. This is why I keep my hero lol. Its like my lil iPod when I have joyos on it =P

One Last Stand

This is my first thread as an OP, and ironically probably my last in the HeroC forums.. I converted over to the 3vo yesterday (and yes the rumors are true, it is amazing), so this is somewhat of a farewell thread but also one last testament to how awesome this little hero is..
i was on vacation last week with my wife's family in the mountains of Tennessee, we get a cabin there every year.. but everybody in the family has a smart phones, there are 2 brand new windows phones on AT&T and the rest are sprint, 2 evos a nexus s, and a random asortment of other phones.. but they all have looked at the hero with disdain, because most had the hero stock (which we all know sucked balls), and only 2 of them actually let me root it, but wouldnt let me optimize it at all.. but they all looked at my little hero like it was a piece of trash, because they had all moved on to "better" phones.. but on to the point, up in this mountain there was hardly a cell signal, the AT&T phones had zero signal, and the others were hit and miss.. but, my hero had signal the whole time.. not only did it have signal, but i wireless tethered to the laptops so we could get on the internet.. so while their condescending "awesome" phones sat lifeless on their night stands, my hero reigned supreme and gave life to their devices..
i know that didnt really have a lot to do with anything, but thought i would throw it out there, this phone despite being left to die by sprint and HTC, continues to conquer where other phones fail.. my hero shall sit in a glass case as it watches over its android kingdom..
and many thanks to all of the people that have helped me around here, and hopefully i have returned the favor at some point.. i will still be floating around here especially until the 3vo forums settle down a bit.. but raise a glass to our hero, heres to the greatest of the phones that was never meant to be great..
Cheers!

Well said!!!....Not only did my Hero serve me well for 16 months in the face of all those who scoffed. It's now been put into service teaching my 11 year old the ways of Android.
It's amazing how many people revere their Heros. It's just like your first love. I went through the Palm Pilot thing, and this really reminds me of that. People posted about upgrading, but talked about the respect and admiration they had for their first device.
Good luck to you in 3vo land, sounds like that community is really getting going.

I've been browsing these boards tonight as I have been rooting and flashing my sister's Hero. This phone and its community is a spitting image of the Eris I had. I really am glad to see a diamond in the rough across all carriers to spread the Android love. Sorry to stray off topic, but I know all about having a great community driven phone, and I will never forget my Eris.

I enjoyd mine. I rooted almost immediately when I got it last year and learned the Android trades of hack and mod. It was a great introduction to Android OS and a solid little phone. Now that I have the 3VO, I somewhat miss it for things like the jogball, root, custom ROMs. I sold it to a coworker so I still have visitation, lol.

my wife and i both had heros and she moved on to an evo a while back, and wanted nothing to do with her hero, so i traded it in, and kept mine so it can have a nice retirement.. if i get bored with the 3d or aosp posts something amazing, i will take him down and give him a fresh flash to keep him up to date.. it is most deff one of the best devices to learn stuff on, there wasnt anything that i couldnt do to that phone.. times that i swore it was bricked and then 15 minutes later he was pumping again.. :tear:
I've had mine for about a year, and I plan to have him for maybe another year... or maybe more, depends I really love this little thing.

Good buy Hero you will be missed :'(

Just got my new Galaxy Nexus today so have to say good buy to my Hero but I will be selling it to my flat mate for £45, Thanks to all the devs that created the ROM's and thanks to any one that gave me support even when I asked stupid questions but I'm so glad to have a new phone that is fast but I will always remember my Hero as it was my first Android phone and I loved it .
Same story here. It started on Android 1.5. Now it runs ginger 2.3.5. Quite a lot of updates i would say. Best phone...

I agree...
Jep its sad to say but Hero is slowly getting to old.
Maybe I give him a bite of IceCreamSandwich and try going with it, if it turns out ICS is his Kryptonite and makes my Hero weak and slow.
I will release him and he has to stay on Gingerbread.
I'm also waiting for a Galaxy Nexus to retire the HTC Hero.
After that, I'll try out different Roms that may not be so stable.
I'm going to try some Roms with updated HTC Sense versions.
Still using Hero but with Custom Rom Elelinux-7.1. Speed is not too bad after OC, but definitely can't run any 3D or heavy app.

Ditto, had my Galaxy Nexus a couple of weeks ago, holding my Hero now it feels tiny! And thick lol. (that sounded a bit dodgy..)
Anyway yeh it was a great phone, I shall miss it!
Aww man, this phone is legend you shouldn't had sell it, I'm going to keep mine forever till it dies. I'm now using the ICS 4.0.1 rom from Glassmacka and it's quite stable and fast. Not for daily usage yet though. But it's nice to see it work so well on it.
ICS rom for Hero
Same here, not long got an upgrade to an HD Desire, Thanks Elelinux for the great Roms, gonna miss coming to this part of the forum.
i'm sad to say that you may be right about the hero being 'past its sel by date'. i remember when you could have a phone for 3 or 4 years and it would still be considered a good phone but nowadays with the amount of competition it seems something new and 'improved' comes out every week.
i'm actually considering getting a new phone myself but for the life of me i can't decide what to get.
currently i'm thinking about getting either the iPhone 4s (i can see me getting some hate for even mentioning that but i like the apps haha), HTC Sensation XE or HTC Sensation XL
what are your opinions on those phones?? perhaps you could help me decide?????

I'll be honest with you fella, both the sensations you mentioned are rubbish. (IN THE CURRENT MARKET) Either get the galaxy nexus or the iphone 4s, nothing better going tbh.

Well, the XE isn't THAT bad, but unless you really want HTC I would go for something else. Galaxy Nexus is nice, but you might want to take a look at the sgs2 as it has better gpu than the nexus and the price has dropped a bit and I hate iPhone, so yeah I usually say iPhone is for those who cannot use Android (from the android is for those who cannot afford iPhone thingy ) ...
sent with love from me to you

ah the memories

the vogue was hands down the best phone i ever had. even though most if not all the devs have moved on to different phones and projects, im just leaving my respects to them for all their hard work that made this little phone what it was.
vogue ftw!

If it had WiFi I would still consider using it. Shoot, if someone put out an ICS Rom I would rock it.
Thanks to the devs for a good time! I remember telling coworkers about Android and they were like
No kidding, well it would help if I didn't blow my speaker a few months ago messing with the settings.
Wifi and I would have kept it waaaaaaay longer

still rocking mine.... No GPS or WiFi is a buzzkill, but I still love the phone and Android made it 100 times better....
no wifi in my cdma touch vogue phone
I'm still happily running my Vogue. It Slings video without stuttering and tethers my laptop and netbook.
As long as I can keep my Sprint Sero plan I'll stick with it.
Over 4 years so far.
This was my first smartphone I ever owned way back in early 2008. I remember loving it every now and then when I changed themes and all that good stuff, but then I wanted an Android phone so badly and had to wait until I could finally upgrade to the HTC Evo 4G.
Now I finally realize this forum is here, come in, and I realize that you guys had Android running on it all along. Makes me wonder what it would have been like if I discovered XDA sooner.

Just started rocking mine again on SERO. Keeping it for a business line. Couldn't help myself on a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for personal use on a T-Mobile prepaid plan though
That's seriously awesome. I'd still rock mine on boostmobile if I hadn't bricked it lol.

Goodbye nexy :(

I would like to thank all of the awesome devs here in the Nexus One forum. You've taken me from a android noob, to a not-so-noobish noob. I'm still learning but I've recently got a One X. My N1 went south when it took up smoking and well.... It blew up. That's what you get for overclocking it way to much. But I would like to thank each and everyone of you for being awesome. Nexus One, You honestly changed me as a person and opened a whole new goal in life.
Okay enough of the rambling, I'm off to enjoy my 1X.
Take care guys.

yeah thank you all
I bought XPERIA S
Evervolv for ICS rom
Sad... I'm going to change my phone soon too, but the Nexus 1 will stay in my heart!
Am i the only one noticing that Jay_Rulen said thanks for leaving? LOL So you think it is good of him to leave?
I moved on to the Galaxy SII and will miss my N1. Thanks for the good times everyone!
whoa that's really sad, nd its great that u got one x, which is a successor of our nexus one
I'm in a similar boat. I recently had to replace my N1, and it will be sorely missed. Especially the LED trackball! Sadly enough, the google nexus is too big for my taste, and I didn't really want to spend $400 up front on a new phone so I picked up another phone instead.
I've vowed though, that as long as the next Nexus device is sized more like what I prefer, I will buy it!
I can't believe it, but I'm saying goodbye to my trusty N1 too. I'm still going to keep it around for media stuff around the house, but I got to get me some of that LTE. And IMO, the HTC One X is the first phone that is a true successor to the Nexus One.

My N1 is still alive, but I have moved on to the galaxy nexus and I also find the screen is a little too big for my liking. Screen colour is also sub-par comparing to the N1, I never see proper white colour being displayed even after adjusting RGBs and gamma values.
I bought the japanese galaxy nexus for around $325usd, shipped to hong kong via yahoo auction jp a month ago.
Though I am still flashing different roms on my N1 to play with
Kept my N1
I still use the N1 when I travel and put prepaid SIM's or my own SIM in it. It is smaller than the Inspire and then the Galaxy Nexus that followed it. If it would take ICS, I would probably be using it more. I really like ICS over Gingerbread and the extra zip of the dual core.
Anyway, it stays in my travel bag as a spare.
Phil
that sucks man. but i'm looking at exchanging my n1 for 1x as well
i'm selling my last nexus one now. it's in perfect shape and i'll get around $300 US for it in my country where imports are closed. i got to sell it now or never! i've moved to a gnex but i'll miss my first real phone.
Same here ... I'm moving to GNex now that price is affordable ...
I'm a bit sad because I really enjoyed the first nexus ... It was a pleasure to play with hundreds of custom roms and get support from this awesome devs community.
Thanks to all you awesome guys!
I'm planning to sell my Nexus One,,as the First Android device, this Smartphone has served me with pleasure... The devs are awesome as well...But the world is changing..Need better Specs now..I will miss my Sexy Nexy the most !!

Well it was a fun...

Couple of years playing with the Evo 4G, no regrets owning one of the best devices of it's time. But like all good things, it had to come to an end? Nah, in this case it just got better! I'm now a proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy S III and couldn't be happier with it. Just wanted to stop in and thank all of the great Evo 4G Developers I've gotten to know a bit over the past year or so. You've made it a great time to learn Android inside and out and then some.
I'll now be poking around the GSIII forums, but I don't plan to root my new toy anytime soon. But I do love keeping up on things so I'll be around! Thanks everyone!
I I'm right there with you. I had my evo for 2 years and it has taught me so much. I have learned a lot from that great phone. But a week ago I also got an s3. It truly is amazing. I rooted it less then 3 hours after I got it. Thanks evo developer's for all your hard work and keep up the good work.

Same here man. I'm switching to an unlocked Galaxy Nexus though. Prepaid options are a much better option for an about to graduate student like myself. But I'm sure as hell going to miss my OG Evo. Even at two years old, she can still run with the best of them. And that's all I ever really asked for. A huge thank you to all the devs that have kept and will keep this pup relevant for a long time!
Goodbye!
Also people need to stop posting these threads, no one needs to know you changed phones..
