That's correct,
but if you already have flashed a kernel which by chance has a recovery built in,
than it's not needed...

Download and make your own Firmware
Don't misread the title. This tutorial will help you download the needed FILE_xxxxxxxx so that FlashTool can decrypt them and create a bundle to flash.
Requirements:
Download the XperiaFirmware Downloader tool thing here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...xperifirm-xperia-firmware-downloader-t2834142
Flashtool (use search for this, there are a lot of threads for it)
Patience
A brain
Steps:
First Download the needed programs and install Flashtool and its drivers. For extra explanation you can check my how to use flashtool tutorial. Download the XperiaFirmware Download tool (see link above) and unzip it.
Open it:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Select your deviceand the wanted customatisation number or operator and select the wanted firmware version:
A new window will pop up and select download and choose an location:
Let it download:
Close the window and the program...
Open flashtool and select Tools > Bundle > FILESET Decrypt:
Select the folder with the FILE's and add them to the list on the right:
Flashtool will decrypt it:
A new window pops up and you can create your bundle; select your device, enter the branding and the firmware version and select create:
Let flashtool do it's job and after a while it is done:
The .ftf file is in the same place as the FILE files.. So look up there and share the .ftf in the correct forum!
Good Luck!
Good guide..just a correction
When you create your bundler you only have to mark the .sin files, not the .ta(or something like that)
I always select everything... Works without issues
Sent from my C5303 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I love the XperiaBlog.. Just copy my Guide, add other screenies and edit the text and saying it was ours... Stupid idiots

I read it somewhere that including ta would cause bootloop in some
devices
I've always included the. Ta parts when flashing ftf's myself never has a problem(yet). I thought it was just Ta files of a different device that bricked your phone

Okey, let's try.
Tried to update from CM12 with the procedure. /system wasn't updated at all by the installer.
If I may ask, which SuperSU and recovery ZIPs did you use for creating the PRF? I already downloaded an unrooted one and on a slow connection like mine I'd rather not redownload another one. I'm willing to go through the process myself.
not sure i understand - why do i have to flash with flashtool after....? and does this work on locked BL?

How can I do this
link plzz
My English is bad, so I use a translator.
If you have a Desire 820n (one sim) doing so:
1. In TWRP doing a copy and then crashes files from the backup, but leave folders.
2. Downloaded from my links are uploading files to the card to the folder where you had your copy (only files)
3. Restores the TWRP system with backup (reflash you clean OS 4.4.4, data, and settings can not lose).
4. downloads from the store Flashify program and upload the original recovery from my link
5. You download the updates via OTA and have a lollipop
Once again files:
A copy of the system

Before YOU DO THIS, I RECOMMEND you TO TAKE BACKUP of IMPORTANT FILES on INTERNAL STORAGE.
Step 1: Downloading required files
- Download OxygenOs_OP6_02_Beta_20 GSI from this link
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/gsi/OxygenOS-Aonly-9-20190701-ErfanGSI.img.7z
- Download BOOT,VENDOR TWRP Backup of miui_MI8LiteGlobal_V10.3.2.0.PDTMIXM_617c09d4b9_9.0 from this link
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1J9YO6zPz67AwNwwCTBHykgZZOqHvPhWw
- Download fw V10.3.2.0.PDTMIXM from this link
https://osdn.net/projects/xiaomifirmwareupdater/storage/Stable/V10/platina/fw_platina_miui_MI8LiteGlobal_V10.3.2.0.PDTMIXM_617c09d4b9_9.0.zip
Step 2: Backuping
- Backup your previous rom's BOOT,DATA,SYSTEM,VENDOR to internal storage and then copy it to your pc or somewhere safe.
- Wipe BOOT,DATA,SYSTEM,VENDOR of your previour rom in twrp. I recommend Batik Recovery.
Step 3: Copying
- Extract your downloaded OxygenOS-Aonly-9-20190701-ErfanGSI.img.7z.
- Copy your extracted OxygenOS-Aonly-9-20190701-ErfanGSI.img to internal storage.
Step 4: Flashing
- Restore BOOT,VENDOR that you have downloaded before.
- Flash fw V10.3.2.0.PDTMIXM.
- Flash OxygenOS-Aonly-9-20190701-ErfanGSI.img.
- Flash permissiver V4
- Flash Gapps,Magisk
- Flash Acrux (optional)
- Reboot
- If you reach the homescreen, the device will reboot automatically. Don't worry, we have a fix for this.
- Reboot to TWRP with volume keys.

Click to collapse
Fixing bugs
- For rebooting continuously after reaching home screen, Flash OOSHDRfixAonly.zip
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1oX4p_eL79fFL8vhnOXviGuyF5CM--2MM
- For reboot, power off functions, Flash OnePlus6_20181211_voldPatch (flash after reaching homescreen).zip
https://drive.google.com/open?id=13QbULDvyhcKfo0t4qAQ-9Fi3mlgEteE2
Warning for OnePlus6_20181211_voldPatch fix
After flashing this patch, don't wipe data in TWRP while you are on OOS. Otherwise your internal storage will gone.
If you need to wipe data, install any rom, not OOS. After installing, reboot to recovery again. You can safely wipe your data now.
- For full info in about phone, I have made a build.prop for you
