[Tutorial] Downloading Firmware and convert them into .FTF files - Sony Cross-Device General

Download and make your own Firmware
Don't misread the title. This tutorial will help you download the needed FILE_xxxxxxxx so that FlashTool can decrypt them and create a bundle to flash.
Requirements:
Download the XperiaFirmware Downloader tool thing here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...xperifirm-xperia-firmware-downloader-t2834142
Flashtool (use search for this, there are a lot of threads for it)
Patience
A brain
Steps:
First Download the needed programs and install Flashtool and its drivers. For extra explanation you can check my how to use flashtool tutorial. Download the XperiaFirmware Download tool (see link above) and unzip it.
Open it:

}
Select your deviceand the wanted customatisation number or operator and select the wanted firmware version:
A new window will pop up and select download and choose an location:
Let it download:
Close the window and the program...
Open flashtool and select Tools > Bundle > FILESET Decrypt:
Select the folder with the FILE's and add them to the list on the right:
Flashtool will decrypt it:
A new window pops up and you can create your bundle; select your device, enter the branding and the firmware version and select create:
Let flashtool do it's job and after a while it is done:
The .ftf file is in the same place as the FILE files.. So look up there and share the .ftf in the correct forum!
Good Luck!

Good guide..just a correction
When you create your bundler you only have to mark the .sin files, not the .ta(or something like that)

I always select everything... Works without issues
Sent from my C5303 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I love the XperiaBlog.. Just copy my Guide, add other screenies and edit the text and saying it was ours... Stupid idiots

Thanks it worked.. But I would like to know why remove .ta ??
another person commented that he is not having any issue even after including those files.. Now that's bit confusing..

I read it somewhere that including ta would cause bootloop in some
devices

I've always included the. Ta parts when flashing ftf's myself never has a problem(yet). I thought it was just Ta files of a different device that bricked your phone

[TOOL]Unlock Bootloader on Sony Xperia Z1 Compact without wipe

This guide/tool will let you unlock the bootloader of your xperia z1 compact without wipe userdata (e.g. sdcard), and TA partition. This mean that you’ll be able to flash a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod or ParanoidAndroid! You do not need root permissions!
ATTENTION: If you mess something your device will be hard bricked. This mean that you'll lose your warranty. Neither I nor the forum are leable of your actions.
1) Follow this guide on how to obtain key from Sony to unlock your bootloader.
2) Make a TA partition backup (this will let you switch from unlocked to locked bootloader, and vice-versa without consequences and without any wipe).
3) Download this simple tool that I've made: https://mega.nz/#!cZRXFTIS!PLXKhwbLfTDz7A-wJL_kBDDPiwyxzsBfu9X1321v8Gw.
It requires Java>=1.5 and it works on each desktop OS.
4) Open command prompt (terminal) and navigate to the folder of the tool.
5) Type: cust-rest-gen.jar [KEY]. Where [KEY] is the key that Sony send to you for unlock your bootloader.
Example (just an example):
Code:
On windows:
cust-rest-gen.jar 8FC42DA9D84D7CFC
On linux or mac os:
./cust-rest-gen.jar 8FC42DA9D84D7CFC
This command will generate a “cust-reset.ta” file.
6) Download the loader.sin for your firmware (here for .157: http://d-h.st/rvn)
7) Create a folder (call it “bootloader” to simplify) on your desktop and move loader.sin and cust-reset.ta inside.
8) Open Flashtool (download it here: http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php)
9) Click on Tools->Bundles->Create and set it up in this way (Branding and Version may vary according to your firmware):

10) Click on “Create” button and Flashtool will create ftf file on folder “firmware”.
11) Turn off you phone and click on flash icon on Flashtool -> Flashmode -> OK -> Select ftf you have created before and click on “Flash”.
12) When the program tell you, press volume down button on device and connect on PC.
Special Thanks to munjeni that has found how the cust-reset.ta works.
I appreciate the effort to contribute something to the community, please note the following though:
- Unlike what you say in the OP, this will still wipe DRM keys
- You can do this via Flashtool [BLU] icon directly, without downloading an additional program and less steps

I've tried: this is the DRM backup first and after the bootloader unlocker

I'm sure it works. Because it's a GUI to the bootimg.exe tool (available for free from Github), which is a modification of the bootimg.py tool (available for free from another Github). The internet is full of "content gateways" where someone wastes their talent on building a do-nothing program instead of something useful, like a tool that allows easy repartitioning/editing of a mmcblk0.raw image.
bootimg.exe --unpack-bootimg boot.img

Sadly for some reason it requires the image being unpacked to be named "boot.img", when it's fully capable of unpacking any "ANDROID!" boot image for both Mediatek and Qualcomm.
I've used it to unpack boot and recovery for a Huawei Y536A1, boot factory laf recovery for a LGL16C, boot dfs dkernel recovery for an Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7". I've never seen it fail to unpack a boot image yet.

Oh this is embarrassing
Maybe one last question, as I did a lot of version back and forth and I am not able just to flash the bootloader or/and modem file of 19s, I would like to do a clean install of the recovery.
So if I do factory reset with data and cache and start the instalation this will be complete clean?
Or should I delete some files or folders which are beside the sdcard folder, too?

Where did you get the ftf? Best way is to use Xperifirm. If you downloaded the file from somewhere else, FT might be missing something it needs. Xperifirm takes care of that...

Usual situation with Xperifirm is:
- File gets downloaded (about 10 minutes), and you get 'download complete' message.
- Close Xperifirm, and Flashtool pops up a message about a new script found, '...do you want to add?'. Click yes, and wait (about 10 minutes).
- Afterwards, when you go to flash, you should get a popup asking if you want to use fsc script, say yes.
Did you do all that? If so, and still not booting, check 'userdata' box in wipe section at the screen you posted above, (backup anything you want if you can).
needs fsc file

It's usually part of the FT / Xperifirm process. It should be in Flashtool home folder > devices > F53xx folder. Did the first two parts of the process go properly?

How to reflash back to stock after unlocking bootloader

I need to reflash back to stock because Custom ROM RIL doesn't work.
Flashtool says all the FTFs I can find are not compatible. I am unable to find an official source for the FTF that I need. XperiFirm doesn't work; gives a connection error.
If someone could point me in the direction of FTFs that'd be great. Phone is unlocked to all UK networks.

The connection error regarding xperiafirm happened to me when downloading from other websites, Here is the original post that has the development of Xperiafirm.
Of course i downloaded it from this forum and it worked no connection errors or anything.
Now for flashtool, You need first of all to download the stock rom from XperiaFirm, it will be decompressed automatically by xperiafirm then you go to flashtool select,
Tools->Bundles->Create
After that select source folder
Then choose the decompressed folder for the ROM
Double-click on device and select Sony Xperia L1
Type the branding and version of the ROM you selected (if you typed anything in these two it doesnt matter)
Shift and select all the files in folder list and press the little -> arrow icon
select Create.
You will then have a folder in C:\User\Name\.flashTool\firmwares
That has the name variant of your device and the branding and version you typed earlier
That will be the source when you start flashing,
press the flash icon and select flashmode then the source of the flashing.
In frimware you select the Name of the device and keep selecting the subfolders

}
Then you hit Flash and wait for it to finish flashing
Once it gives you a confirmation that flashing is done disconnect your device and reboot, your system should be working correctly now.
