I've been reading through the forums trying to find a solution to my WiFi-N issues.
Here is what I've done and what is happening
1. Got a Nook Simple Touch (stock unrooted) and updated from 1.0 to 1.1.2 via the directions found at Barnes and Noble
2. Rooted using TouchNooter 2.1.31
3. The screen never turned black/off. The instructions remained on the whole time. So I left it over night to be sure it would work. Took out TouchNooter SD card and rebooted, and the NST was rooted and worked.
4. WiFi connection issues start.
I can connect to my home WiFi, but do not get any internet access.
NST says connected but No internet, router shows the NST as a connected device.
My router is a NetGear WNR2000v1 with the latest North American firmware (1.2.3.7).
I've got the security set to WPA2 PSK (but since I can connect I guess it is a moot point).
Attempted but failed solutions
1. Reboot NST (multiple times)
2. Forget my wifi network and then enter credentials again
3. Reboot router and cable modem (and repeat 1 and 2)
4. Change my wifi SSID to something more simple (and repeat 1 and 2)
5. Use an open network temporarily (and repeat 1 and 2)
6. Used MAC address filtering on the router to force a specific LAN IP address instead of leaving it up to DHCP
7. Ensured the NST (and my laptop) was only device on the network
Non-NST Based Solution (hopefully temporary)
My router was set to the 300Mbs setting, but that was not working, so I tried the 145Mbs setting without any luck, then switched it to 54Mbs setting and it works!
Per the manual for the router:
– Up To 54 Mbps. Legacy mode, for compatibility with the slower 802.11b and 802.11g
wireless devices.
– Up To 145 Mbps. Neighbor Friendly mode, for reduced interference with neighboring
wireless networks. Provides two transmission streams with different data on the same
channel at the same time, but also allows 802.11b and 802.11g wireless devices. This is
the default mode.
– Up To 300 Mbps. Performance mode, using channel expansion to achieve the 300 Mbps
data rate. The WNR2000 router will use the channel you selected as the primary channel
and expand to the secondary channel (primary channel +4 or –4) to achieve a 40 MHz
frame-by-frame bandwidth. The WNR2000 router will detect channel usage and will
disable frame-by-frame expansion if the expansion would result in interference with the
data transmission of other access points or clients.

I would assume the 145Mbs option should work with the NST since the NST is a 802.11b/g/n device.
I will probably try this solution when I get home [N2E][1.1][solved] wifi/dhcp lease issues
I did not try the WiFi Static app yet, because I have not gotten the market to work yet (i'm working under the assumption that it is the wait-a-day-or-so-for-the-market-to-work issue).
Do you have any other possible solutions or advice?
I'd really prefer to be able to use the 802.11n speeds on my router so that other devices play and stream nicely (Apple TV & PS3)
weird compatibility issues with specific router/firmware combos are, unfortunately, relatively common in nook devices and by no means unheard of for android devices as a group.
you may find that only the b/g mode works with your router - but once your device is connected to your router when it's running at 145, its worth looking to see if you can ping the mac address of the NST from your router, if your router supports a diagnostic ping that will take a MAC as an input.
Some folks over on the BN forums found that once they could ping the MAC, the connectivity issue was resolved. (I don't know how long-lasting the fix was.)
My guess is that some android devices are doing something odd in reply to ARP requests.
Another option would be to pick up the cheapest b/g or b-only access point you can find and just use that for the NST, leave the real access point set up for the things that can really use it. Fry's sells workable low-end access points from Trendnet for 25 bucks or so, or used to.

Out of curiosity, before you got it rooted – were you able to connecet @ 300 Mbps. Performance mode?
You need internet connection to register nook, unless you bypass registeration…
I honestly am not sure if it was the performance mode, but it did connect automatically and my router was set to performance mode. I'm working under the assumption it did connect with the 1.0.1 software that came with it... I registered and updated the software then rooted, but didn't pay attention to whether the 1.0.1 vs 1.1.2 connected before rooting.
The second router is a pretty good idea, I probably have one sitting around somewhere too.

Pocket/travel size router coming up regularly on slickdeals.net for $10-20 shipped. Some even support DD-WRT.
I got a "refurbished" D-Link DIR-615 (that takes DD-WRT) for $20 locally.
"Refurbished" in this case means that somebody bought it once, it was too complicated for them,
they threw it back in the box and D-Link repackaged it in a plain box.
The Nook has a spare connector inside for a second antenna.
It's one of those teeny-tiny connectors.

Ok I have search a good bit online surfing the net, and 3 calls to Belkin 3 calls to T-mobile and nothing. Now my wifi works everywhere else, and my labtops connect just fine to the router but it seems like the Belkin N has something blocking it (even tried a shadow with original ROM and would not connect). So I took all the security opitions off along with the firewall and it still failed to connect. If anyone has any solutions or ideas I am willing to try. Thanks guys

It is set for B/G/and N. And i dont know about the mac security set-up. But I have tried setting it to just G or B and N and nothing. Tell me more about this mac security set-up.
There is nothing wrong with your phone. The shadow/juno has an internal wireless card that only supports b/g wifi and it's currently not compatible with n radio signals. It will work perfectly with b/g wireless networks. So, if your router has a b/g/n setting, set it to that, but do not set the security settings into a newer format, stick with wep2 or wep and it should work with no problem. If you leave it on n setting only, the internal wireless card in the shadow will not support it. You also have to remember that n wireless is not that widely used and its barely catching on. Many new electronics are still being made with b/g internal wireless cards because they are widely avaliable and come in smaller sizes suitable for phones like the shadow. Currently n wireless cards are fairly expensive and i doubt it will be made avaliable on phones anytime soon as cost would be too high for manufacturing. Hope this helps.

Ok I understand that but I have tried that already with all my security off set on just G/B and by them self's also and it still will not connect. I went threw all of this on the phone with T-mobile and Belkin. But I appreciate the help.

i have the same issue using stock TMO's ROM...
Just for the sake of discussion, I'm assuming that all of you have T-Mobile Shadow phones that work fine with other wireless routers or public access points? Any problems when turning on security settings on other wireless networks (those that you or your friend can manage)?
If the problems persist with other wireless networks while using your Shadow, chances are that your Shadow's wireless card is faulty, which is not unheard of.
Please comment on your phone's status.
Also, which model of Belkin N router are you all having problems with?
All N routers are typically backward compatible so setting them to mixed mode (B/G/N) would not affect the Shadow's Wifi capabilities.
AC, there's never a wep2...I guess you meant WPA & WPA2.

Result: No way to get Shadow connected. Even WIthout Encryption, MAC address control off, B & G & N bands, UPNP Off, but my laptop does get WiFi Connection (just 11g compliant WiFi card)
Just to point out, I have the same problem with my Belkin Wireless N router. In the office, I can jump onto our Netgear Wireless N router without a problem. I also have no problem jumping onto any free McDonalds networks, the networks at friends' places, or the free network in the CambridgeSide Galleria out here near Boston. This is definitely not an isolated issue. Nobody with a Shadow can get on my home network.

I have an HTC Touch that can connect to other hotspots, but not to my home Belkin router. Sometimes, if there is another connection available, it can see the router, and says that it is Available, but cannot connect; other times it won't even see it. Please follow the steps given below to update the firmware and configure the router:
We recommend that you update the firmware from a computer that is connected to the router with an ethernet cable.
Please download the latest firmware on the router from the link given below. Download the file "3.01.29":

and save it to the computer.
- To update the firmware, log on to the router`s web interface by typing in http://192.168.2.1 in the address bar of the browser. The computer should be

- Click on "Firmware Upgrade" under the option "Utilities".

4. If the internet connection is stable on the computers using the router?
5. If the HTC Touch detects and connects to other networks in the neighborhood?

the latest firmware on the US support page was 3.01.17 if i remember right,
on the BELKIN UK Support page is 3.01.29 and guess what i updated the firmware to the one in UK site .... and....
IT DOES WORK LIKE A CHARM!

The same happened to me. I also have a Belkin pre-n router and my HTC Tytn wouldn't get wifi, no matter how or what I tried. I read your comment yesterday and, although the no-so-great new firmware check utility on the web interface said there was no new firmware available, I checked the USA and UK sites, since the Spanish site doesn't even show this router anymore. I downloaded 3.01.29 from the USA site and now my HTC Tytn is getting wifi at last. Thanks a lot, you saved my day.

I've had a search in the forums but haven't seen any other posts re. this but wondered if anyone had any ideas?!
Basically I'm having problems connecting to some networks with my Tab 10.1 (stock, updated OTA to the latest TouchWiz UX last week).
I first had a problem last week when I took the device into work - there's an 802.1x EAP network there but it wouldn't even show up in the network list. My SGS2 connects to it without an issue.
Then when I got home tonight (after happily using it at my parents' house during the day) I found it wouldn't connect to my home WiFi (hidden SSID, WPA2). It had connected to this network fine in the past, but now was just sitting showing it as 'not in range' network. At first I thought it might be a router issue (it used to be a little flaky), but then I saw that my iPod and SGS2 were both connecting and working on it without a hitch.
I couldn't see the network at all in WiFi Analyzer (similarly to at work), although it was showing my neighbours' WiFi networks fine. I tried deleting the saved entry and telling the router to broadcast the SSID but it still wouldn't work.
I then put on my WiFi hotspot on my SGS2 (also a previously remembered connection) and it worked absolutely fine!
Does anyone have any ideas where to go next apart from doing a full reset? (which although not the end of the world would be quite a pain).

OK, bit the bullet and restore my device to factory settings - it STILL can't see my home WiFi, despite my SGS2, laptop and iPod all connecting to it fine. It is however showing up two networks belonging to neighbours and also my SGS2 if I put it in WiFi hotspot mode!
Any suggestions folks??
Sounds like a route issue, did you reboot the router? Is the router on a channel below 12?

I actually just spotted a post at http://www.thegalaxytabforum.com/index.php?/topic/5511-my-wifi-no-longer-works/ with the same issue.
It looks like Samsung have mucked something up when they made the Touchwiz UX update - it now blocks WiFi channels 12 upwards, when the old stock Honeycomb firmware didn't do this. I'd moved my router onto 13 to reduce congestion and I guess the work one must be on 12/13 too.
I can see from the table at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels that 12/13 are only allowed under low-power conditions in the USA, but this isn't the case elsewhere so they shouldn't have locked it down outside of the USA.

As I had setup an additional router in my house (with assigned a high numbered -or so i thought- fixed IP address) for some reason my main router tryied unseccesfully to assign the same IP to my SGT as the router. This had obviously conflicts and could not log in.
Went into the router eliminated the fixed IP address and voilá! it got working again, all IP a dinamic!!

Is there anyway of using the super hub 1 from virgin media to act as a wifi extender/repeater?
I currently have a super hub 2 connected but in some spots of the house i cant access wifi or its a poor signal so o was tjinking if it is possible to create a wifi extender from the super hub 1? Any help would be appreciated, and thanks.

It is possible, the easest way is to first change some settings on your old hub, you will need to disable built in features such as the DHCP, secondly you may need to change the old hubs ip, if it is the same as the new one, to prevent a ip address conflict (for example, if they are both using 192.168.1.254 though if yours is an old netgear tg834? Then its probably using 192.168.1.1) , now assuming your old super hub supports the same wireless encryption as the new one, match the wireless ESSID (name) and encryption password (And type! Such as wpa2) so that they appear as the same Wireless network (distributed wireless) and the easesst and most supported method is to then link the two devices via ethernet and place one of them somewhere else in the building where it can provide a signal in the blindspots of your primary superhub.
Also a side not.. If i recall, the most recent superhub uses 802.11n on 5GHz, which does not boad well in old victorian houses, and new ones made with lots of metal strips between plaster boards.. 2.4GHz works better at penetrating walls, so check you dont have this option set to 5GHz under the wireless settings.

Ok i will check all that out soon as i have time but thanks also. The house is made in 1970's it is strange that im not getting good signal in the garage room the wireless hub is situated in the living room downstairs then theres a brick wall then the hall way withthe stairs in the middle another small brick wall which leads to the garage room. I get signal but its poor. Would a netgear wifi extender work the one on the net for about £40 if the super hub 1 idea didnt work?

Yes, any off the shelf Signal "Booster" device should work, I use one at work and it's essentially a small WiFi device that connects to a specified Access point (in your case the super hub) and re-broadcasts the same network settings from it's own wireless card, forwarding any data to and from the original access point like a wireless bridge. the only down side is there is usually a slight decrease in bandwidth with this method, where as using multiple wireless access points, hard-wired in to a network via Ethernet all have their own dedicated connection providing maximum bandwidth. Hope that helps and isn't too technical

I full understand, soon as i get some spare time i will try the settings on the hub etc, if no luvk with that then i will look towards on getting the wifi extender preferably the netgear with two sntennas on for £40, i did hear that that one is only 2.4ghz. Oh well fingers crossed somthing works.

If im not mistaken again (the VM Superhub in my experience is the one at the office) it broadcasts on 2.5 and 5GHz simultaneously, so you may get away with it, the repeater would use the 2.4Ghz band for it's distribution link, and any devices close enough (and supporting) could use the 5GHz band, which in theory would work in your favour, and not effect the repeated signal, giving you a little boost in performance.. this, of course depends on how well the superhub manages its wireless, and i have little faith in it as it is..

I have been postponing this post but nothing ive seemed to do has worked. I THINK after i rooted my issues started. I am unable to browse the net or anything when connected to my wifi. I have reset the router, forgotten and rejoined the network with no avail. All my other devices do not have this issue. Im not really sure what else to say so maybe some of you gurus could pick my brain. Though this is a wifi only issue and on this network. When connected to other networks im fine. My setup is as follows. I have a hard line going from the router the ISP provided in the other end of the house to the router in my room. Like i said my phone is the only device that has issues on this network.

That's a pretty strange issue, not sure there is going to be much help... I've had some strange, random issues with my S5. I had issues with wireless, xposed and some other apps after rooting the first time. I got tired of it and used Odin to reflash the stock firmware, then performed a factory reset and rooted afterwords. I haven't had any problems at all after doing this... In all honesty, that's the route I would go if I were you. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, hope you get sorted out

Just wanted to agree with BadKarma on this. I've not had your exact issue, but I have had some similar stuff after rooting originally. I used Odin to go back to stock and rooted again and have been no issues since. Hope it works out. . .

well i used odin and got back but it turns out it seems to be the router? im on stock with no root and still cant access the net or anything else when im connected to the router. any thoughts on this?
Can you reset the settings in the router via your pc?
Try connecting standing right next to the router. I had this issue with my Note 2 and it ended up being a physical issue with the wireless chip or antennas. It's actually the reason I'm not on a S5.
Not that u want to hear this, but I had to replace my router for the same reason. My router would only pick up certain devices, had to do with hardware and firewall security settings.

Ok so i changed to security in my router to aes and tkip and i was able to connect and browse the net and so forth. but i just got home and connected and wasnt able to get access to the net again. i tried forgetting network and re-entering it with no luck.

First and foremost you have to isolate the issue to either ur phone or the router. In order to do that its very simple.... can you connect to wifi outside of your house like starbucks or friends wfii? If the answer is yes than the issue lies solely with your router. Let me know what you find out and I can help guide you <---- systems administrator Also please provide the make and model of your router as well as your modem and your ISP.
EDIT: I just read the line where you talk about having another router in your room. I can already tell you this is probably NOT an issue with your phone but rather your setup. The secondary router must be setup as a repeater or bridge OR on a different subnet. This gets very tricky for average home user and I do not recommend you tackle it on your own. Also your main router has to be able to play nice with the secondary and if it's one provided by your ISP it's probably a POS. Also your phone is probably not the only device having issues with this setup.... its the only one you are noticing having issues. Android OS is very sensitive to weird wifi setups and anything out of the norm will set it off. It's actually a great tool in diagnosing wifi issues.

Hi there thanks for the reply. Yes i can connect to any other router without issue. The router is my Router Info:

I use my tablet and other pcs within this wifi. It is under a different subnet as well. (i think so been a while since ive done any networking) The main router that comes in has the standard IP 192.168.1.1 and the IP for my router in my room (basically set up like this since my room is quite far and gets bad signal from the main router, Cable in -> Main Router -> Hardwire hooked into a port -> ethernet run to my room -> Connected to a port on the wireless router) 192.168.2.1. My ISP is Optimumn Online. My wifi was working fine until about 10 mins ago. seems to happen so often. I did change the security a while back to TKIP + AES on the router and made sure it was the same on the phone and it was working fine for days until like i said about 10 mins ago.

Not that u want to hear this, but I had to replace my router for the same reason. My router would only pick up certain devices, had to do with hardware and firewall security settings.

This leads me to think that perhaps the router (however old or new) may have a setting, or an actual limit, on how many devices connect to it.
If not that, perhaps if you rooted, and tried removing bloat, you may have been a bit overzealous and removed something related to WiFi and are now having this issue as a result.
I have only removed the list of apps and bloat that have been posted on Ricks Rom HERE. The ONLY problem I have seen since removing this list, was that I can no longer access PhotoVault correctly. Gives me an error saying that it has no connection to the database, but my 4G is working fine at the time as I was downloading via steam and streaming a movie, and playing a PC game at the same time...

You have the right setup with a different subnet. It's possible the main router is assigning the same IP address that your router has to another device. It would be best if you picked up another router that has repeater capabilities and set it up in repeater mode. Also reserve an IP address for your router from the main router to avoid IP conflicts.
Another possibility is simply the wifi on your router is deteriorating and it's time for a replacement. I recommend the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 if you don't mind spending the $$$. If your on a bit of a budget the Netgear N900 (WNDR4500v2) is the next best thing that supports repeater mode.
well its been still working intermediary. I have to unplug the router and plug it back in then i can browse the net on my phone. idk if id like to lay out that kind of money for a new router. there has to be something else thats causing it. i set the router to reboot everyday, also my phone. its odd though. sometimes it works sometimes it dosent.

I am new to the forum and not a developer However I am quite experienced with IT. I have a question related to a rowing machine and hope you can help me.
I am using a Nordictrack RW900 rower. This machine has a screen attached which is basically an Android tablet. Unfortunately the wifi is very weak (only 2.4 GHz single band). During the workouts it is becoming very slow and the video workouts will be interrupted. My wifi signal is strong (40-50 devices connected, Unifi access points, 1Gbit internet connection), so it is not related to my infrastructure. I already placed a repeater just nearby without success. The best connection I got was 40 Mbit/s, but sometimes it goes down to 15-20 Mbit/s.
So my idea was to attach a USB-to-Ethernet adapter. I bought one using the AX88772 chipset, see picture. When I attach a cable to the adapter then both leds are flashing (orange, green) but the device is not working. I assume that the Ethernet drivers are missing on the tablet. In the Ethernet menue I tried DHCP and static IP without success.
Please find attached a few screenshots I took showing the config of the tablet. I was able to install Droid info apk through the browser on the device.
I would be happy if someone could advise.
